Shocked to hell that there aren't more comments about how absolutely stunning she looks in this video - I think this is probably one of her most aesthetically perfect eras (along with Blonde Ambition era). She is seriously edgy haute-couture gorgeous here. Old Hollywood meets edgy fashion magazine - with a dash of sex . Every scene in this video is extremely artistic and well-shot, just like how a high fashion photographer would handle an envelope-pushing fashion spread. More people should appreciate the artistry in this - its definitely sexy, but it is in no way vulgar. It's executed perfectly. If only we were all so lucky to create videos of this nature to capture ourselves in such a sensual and artistic way!
It actually WAS photographed and filmed by some major high-fashion talent! The famed art director Fabien Baron (who masterminded the 90's revamp of Interview magazine, remade Harper's Bazaar also in the 90's and also worked on Italian Vogue around that time, as well as the famous CK ad campaign with Marky Mark and Kate Moss among other things) filmed the video and the legendary Steven Meisel (Whose iconic work has appeared in international Vogues for decades and who was a major figure in creating the 'Trinity' of Supermodels back then) photographed the book.

Just want to take a moment and comment on how versatile she is. She had come off a huge hit with This Used To Be My Playground, a ballad, and she followed it up with "Erotica". I'll never cease to be amazed at how she pushed herself with every record and in turn, pushed her audience (and pop music in general) forward too. She succeeded where others would've flopped. Unafraid to change, always finding ways to reinvent herself and never backing down when people said no to her. And she's still around, and has a few tricks up her sleeve, I'm sure. Erotica is an incredible album that sounds like it was produced in some underground studio in New York City. It's very raw, up-to-date synth-pop and r&b. Should've got a grammy!

I was a sophomore in high school when this album came out, and it was so powerful to me. I remember how the mainstream music press pushed her down and made a mockery of her expressing herself in a way so many men had done (or attempted!) before. Hi everyone and Madonna if you should ever read this one day. I remember when MTV was announcing all day that around 11:30pm they would air this song on their channel. I set my VCR with a blank tape and waited all night for it. As soon as it came on I pushed record. Instantly after it aired, MTV announced that this video was banned from due to it’s graphic content. I was like what the heck?! But it didn’t matter to me because I now had a recorded copy. I always loved Erotica, the song and the video. It’s a timeless piece of art, it’s bold beautiful and daring. A great representation of Madonna. I will never get sick of this song.

Madonna invented Dita - an alter ego- for this (album) project. She used to check in into hotels under that name for many years before she introduced it to the public. Dita Parlo was a German actress from the early 1900s that Madonna loved. (Dita Van Teese also took her name from Parlo) 2. Madonna used a Kool & The Gang Sample for this song ("Jungle Boogie"). Shocked to hell that there aren't more comments about how absolutely stunning she looks in this video - I think this is probably one of her most aesthetically perfect eras (along with Blonde Ambition era). She is seriously edgy haute-couture gorgeous here. Old Hollywood meets edgy fashion magazine - with a dash of sex . Every scene in this video is extremely artistic and well-shot, just like how a high fashion photographer would handle an envelope-pushing fashion spread. More people should appreciate the artistry in this - its definitely sexy, but it is in no way vulgar. It's executed perfectly. If only we were all so lucky to create videos of this nature to capture ourselves in such a sensual and artistic way!

The famed art director Fabien Baron (who masterminded the 90's revamp of Interview magazine, remade Harper's Bazaar also in the 90's and also worked on Italian Vogue around that time, as well as the famous CK ad campaign with Marky Mark and Kate Moss among other things) filmed the video and the legendary Steven Meisel (Whose iconic work has appeared in international Vogues for decades and who was a major figure in creating the 'Trinity' of Supermodels back then) photographed the book.

Erotica is an incredible album that sounds like it was produced in some underground studio in New York City. It's very raw, up-to-date synth-pop and r&b. Should've got a grammy!

Such a serious scary look on her face, with a slight smirk just to keep me thinking "oh shit, am i in trouble for this?" Lol when i happily just simply said "yes Miss" she just smiled & said "i can see u enjoyed yourself 😉" then announced in our Media Studies class that our next assignment was to be based on our all time favourite Singer or Group, & to provide as much info as we knew and with great detail etc..... Mine clearly was a lot more Photographic literally photocopying her programmes for both the Blond Ambition and Girlie show tours haha 🤣😉 very good but needed more literature apparently.... I thought i was being clever having printed off "The Beast Within" scripture from the programme lol and to this day, ive always wondered whatever happened to my hard working piece of work id done all those years ago hehe......
When i finally went to collect my Dita at the age of 10 weeks old, she was introduced onto my facebook page as my new addition to the family, say hello to My darling Dita.... school friends immediatly saying "i already knew her name, even before id said so" as that was all i would say back then that when im older i'm gonna have a Dalmatian called Dita 😍

Hi everyone and Madonna if you should ever read this one day. I remember when MTV was announcing all day that around 11:30pm they would air this song on their channel. I set my VCR with a blank tape and waited all night for it. As soon as it came on I pushed record. Instantly after it aired, MTV announced that this video was banned from due to it’s graphic content. I was like what the heck?! But it didn’t matter to me because I now had a recorded copy. I always loved Erotica, the song and the video. It’s a timeless piece of art, it’s bold beautiful and daring. A great representation of Madonna. I will never get sick of this song.

Since the day it was released, this is my favorite song from my favorite album by my favorite artist of all time! I'll never understand how people don't get what she was trying to do here. When people compare Madonna to Gaga or ask "who is better?" I use this song as one of my main reference to make a point! In order to understand Madonnas genius, you need to dissect "Erorica" and the very different references and inspirations that Madonna used to create this conceptual masterpiece:
1. Madonna invented Dita - an alter ego- for this (album) project.
She used to check in into hotels under that name for many years before she introduced it to the public. Dita Parlo was a German actress from the early 1900s that Madonna loved. (Dita Van Teese also took her name from Parlo)
2. Madonna used a Kool & The Gang Sample for this song ("Jungle Boogie"). She was an early ally of the black community and spoke out against censorship (of rap) and publicly promoted rap and Hiphop (she took Beastie Boys on her 1985 Tour against her managers advice)
3. She also used a distinctive oriental vocal breakdown. In fact, it was taken from a Christian hymn by a Lebanese all-time well-known legend Fayrouz (She sued and settled out of court).
4. She has had worked with Lenny Kravitz on "Justify MY Love" before and has used a very classic Hiphop beat for Both songs.
To reference Dita Parlo, Kool and the Gang, Hiphop beats and Fairouz in the same song is a masterclass in itself.
The fact that Madonna has a deep knowledge of culture, history, dance, theater, religion, literature, music (and obviously business!) is often unspoken. Her intelligence and education is unique and extraordinarily vast.
She is the amplifier of all things artistic and timeless.
Madonna often accused of stealing from others (Dita, Marlene, Monroe etc.). These people don't even have the slightest understanding of artistic and conceptual work. Madonna always enhanced, reinvented or enlarged what reference she used. She brought in new aspects and inspirations, provoked thoughts and introduced new ideas to the references she has used.
She never copied or was reductive!
No matter what we think of her today, she WILL BE THE BLUEPRINT for female pop ...forever!

They did 90% of the work, not her.
