Hey this was a big help for me, I cleaned the Throttle and the idle went up and down, check engine light for high rpm, misfire.... bought me a scanner and did the reset..... and it works, thanks man !!
@@adrianorozco6250 I bought a different scanner with all the brands of cars and free upgrade; it was ready. But No all the scanners have the re-set option.
Thank you. I had cleaned my throttle body due to engine rattle at idle. I replaced the gasket and cleaned out the throttle body carefully making sure not to damage the airflow sensors. Put it back together and to my surprise the rattle was gone but I was idling at 1300 on my 07 CR-V. With the foxwell tool I fixed the engine codes for high idle and found the TP reset how you mentioned. Fixed my high idle issue. I proceeded to do the Honda idle relearn. Procedure after that. Good as spanking new. All problems fixed. Tha k you so much. You saved me a trip to the mechanic who would have charged me 200 bucks to press a couple of buttons. Now I have my very own diagnostic tool with all the Honda programming. Super helpful. One thing Eric the car guy, Scotty and even chrisfix fail to mention is that with these electronic throttles you gotta reset the TP position after cleaning the throttle body. The job literally cannot be completed without this tool.
Your video put me on the trail to fixing my 06 Odyssey with the same idle problems. Like you, none of the YT non-scanner videos worked. I got the newer Foxwell NT530 and it fixed the idle easy. I also had a VSA warning light and it cleaned that up as well. The scanner gives factory OEM level capability. I used Chilton on line repair which appears to be factory repair procedures that require Honda HDS scanner. The NT530 did everything the HDS was required to do. In fact the on line instructions were almost identical to Chilton. So when it called for HDS to do something, the NT530 did it. Fantastic investment. When you buy the scanner you have to select one car mfg such as Honda. If you want another mfg it is $80. Given the capability of this scanner it is a bargain. I paid twice as much for the best Innova 5610 (Harbor Freight ZR15) and it did nothing except read codes. The toughest part of using the NT530 is attaching the scanner is to set up a user ID with Foxwell then take out the SD card from the scanner, install it in a tiny card reader and install that in a PC to download the Honda update. Foxwell customer service is fantastic. They came back to me less than a day.
Disconect battery terminals. Turn on headlights to discharge any current left. Reconnect battery terminals. Start car and let run for 30 minutes until it is at operating temperature and fan has turn on once and let idle another 10 min. That's how you relearn the idle position on a honda. That simple
Excellent! I had the same problem, I cleaned the throttle body and I was out of control, accelerated. I bought the same scanner and ran the TPS reset procedure and the problem was requested. the car was working perfectly as new. thanks you for your video.

Im having the same problem with high idle is it really gonna fix?

@Mr. E.W thanks mister i bought a scanner for $400 and its okay now
You saved a costly dealer trip, I fixed it myself with that tool in my TSX 2009! It probably cost me less than the dealer was going to charge me and the bs he would state.
Thanks for this video, I didn't purchase the scanner, instead I found mobile mechanic in local add to reset with snap-on scanner for $50. Problem solved instantly. Most garage didn't aware of this, always think I damaged it during cleaning.
I went to Halford and they had the same scanner, went through the video with the guy and its absolutely brilliant now on the revs. Didn't cost me a penny.
I wonder if thats why my idle drops really low at red lights? Like around 500rpm. It goes up if i turn the fan on (i never use a/c) or other electronics like lights. Ive cleaned the throttle body, and MAF and MAP sensors. I also run cleaner through the intake manifold to help with carbon build up. I have a 2019 honda civic coupe ex 1.5t. I know its not the same generation as your car in the video, and I have a turbo. Ill have to research this.
So I went on amazon and it says Foxwell NT510 for BMW even though I put Foxwell NT510 for all vehicles can I still use it on My 2004 Nissan Sentra 1.8L ? My car is doing the same thing yours was , it’s all over the place driving shitty
Will this work on my 2000 accord v6. Cleaned the throttle body and iac valve and now its surging high between 2000 and 4000 rpms.. it was low and stalling prior to cleaning. dont even want to drive it right now until its fixed
This worked for me as well! I had the starter motor changed - the mechanic removed the throttle (prob cleaned as well) afterwards I had high revs at idle and engine surging when flick to nueutral at low speed. Had the mechanic reset the throttle and it fixed the idle etc. cheers!
I managed to reset it without a scanner. After reading a lot of tutorials and procedures that work on other cars, I've done the following and somehow worked for me: 1. Turn off all the accessories (lights, blower, a/c, stereo etc etc); 2. Turn on the engine, let it warm-up until operating temp; 3. Shut down the engine, unplugged both battery terminals; 4. Turn on headlights (to discharge up remaining electricity in the system); 5. Touched both positive and negative terminals of the battery together (battery unconnected); 6. Turn headlights off and connect battery terminals back; 7. Turn accessories on with throttle fully pressed down; 8. Release throttle; 9. Turn everything off again; 10. Turn engine on, don't touch the throttle, let it run for about 10 minutes; 11. Turn it off again; 12. Turn on and check.
Now that you did the TPS reset, how do you do the idle relearn? Is that ONLY done manually or can it be done with that scanner? Or does that TPS reset take care of the idle relearn as well? Thanks.
There is an idle reset procedure you can do but I don’t include those details in my video but there are a bunch of RUclipsrs who have put that process out there. Best of luck! It’s pretty easy but takes some explanation. Just follow the process exactly and you should be good to go.
I had my throttle valve cleaned, I used a different device to reset the idle throttle position programming but I followed the same screens shown in this video.
I am sorry, I was away and could not reply right away, I don't have the machine, it is at my mechanic but I will stop by and get the make and model for you.
@kraid, hey sir how are you doing ? I have a question can you reset the torque converter with this scanner or reset the transmission module to factory?
Hi,just want to ask...when your idle was high, all you did was reset the TP and it came back to 650rpm? I also cleaned my throttle body and same problem i encountered.now I'm waiting for my Scan tool to arrive.
After doing the reset with the scan tool, you may have to perform an “idle relearn”. That doesn’t require any special tools and there are a bunch of RUclips videos describing that procedure. I wanted to keep my video short so I didn’t include that procedure. I hope this helps you!
I have gotten feedback that this will work on a variety or other car models and years. If you 2000 6th gen has an electronic throttle body then it should work. Sorry for the late reply.
I did this procedure yesterday with the Foxwell I have and today my CEL went on with some EGR codes. Is that normal after resetting the TP sensor? You said in the video you had to clear some codes...so I'm guessing you had some codes pop after resetting the TP sensor. Right? Thanks for the video
It has been my experience that when you have a DTC code, everything stops until that code is fixed. Need to clear codes before doing the throttle relearn. However if the problem is serious it will return and probably prevent the throttle relearn. It also prevents PCM/ECU from setting the emissions monitors such as cat and oxygen sensors.
Sure thing. I don't think it matters if the car is hot or cold but you just have the key in the "on position 2" but not running. Then the scan tool can connect and you can reset the to position.
It works perfect for pulling codes and resetting the tp. I don't use it a ton and wish there were more tutorials on how to use it and what full capabilities it has. But for basic stuff that I have used it for it's been great.
Well I bought it for my 2005 Accord. Had to go into special functions, since I wasn’t finding it. It shows TP position check, I click on it, then tells me “this option is not available for this Vehicle” 🤦🏼♂️ so now what?? Is there an update I can do to make it happen? In function menu #12 for me is Replace ECM/PCM. 🤨
Sorry, I just saw your question. Run the TP reset with the key in position 2. The engine is off but the key is turned to the second position. I hope this helps😀👍
Watched a few videos. But I think I got it narrowed down. About a month ago I went and cleaned my throttle body on my 09 Honda Accord. I took it off the car and cleaned it of course moving the plate with my fingers. So after I was done the idle is all over the place. So I bit the bullet and bought the scanner on Amazon. Expecting it in a few days. But I will use your video to navigate the screens. Maybe they have changed since you made this video. But I am feeling confident that this is it.
I hope you can find the setting to reset it fast. It seems crazy that these cars can't self adjust. I've used my scanner a few time since to find failing coil packs and stuff too. I'm happy with it. Cheers
Just order this scan toll I am actually clean the throttle body but didn’t have any warning light on, but I fell the idling not right Should I do the throttle position rest any way or only in case warring light appear? I’m still not sure if I need the scan till but I want give it a shot because I fell something not working properly. My car work better before I clean throttle body 🤨 When AC is on the idling not stable at all and vibrate a lot And when I come to a full stop I fell I need press harder on the breaks because idling reduce to low.
Yeah, it sounds like you are experiencing some of the same issues I had after cleaning mine. So yes, resetting the TP should fix your problems. After reading some of the coments to my video I have seen different options. You can take it to a local shop that has a scan tool and have them reset it. Or purchase a tool that you research and feel comfortable buying. I happened upon the Foxwell and it worked for me. Good luck.
I don’t think a dealer is allowed to erase codes unless they are doing it through the diagnostic process. They will definitely charge you for any diagnostic work and the price keeps going up.
I got a question did you have to do the official so-call 3,000 RPM idle relearn procedure afterwards? Or just drive and the car learned how you want to drive? I'm just not a big fan of this procedure so much controversy over the Internet even today .
What version are you running? Because on my screen all the words appear blue where as in urs u have OBDII and u have the Honda logo with an Acura one where as in mine it doesn’t appear like that, yet it’s the same Fox well model
I believe my code was p0507 but I’m sorry I don’t remember fully. The p1129 is more from reading values from the MAP sensor. Sometimes MAP sensor cleaner can help with that. I know I eventually replaced mine. It wasn’t too expensive.
I looked into that and was not able to adjust the RPMs. I think I was having the same problem as you with low RPM and a stutter with the AC on. My car would even stall sometimes. I thought maybe it was the ignition coils but they are too expensive through the dealer so I bought the 50 dollar set on Amazon and it solved my problem. Just make sure to match your car's year make and model.
I believe there are other scan tools out there that will do the throttle position reset. The one in the video was the one I found and I don't know if there is one cheaper out there. I think some people have commented on this video and mentioned some but I don't know for sure.
Kraid what about before you reset the throttle position when the AC was on? Right now my car idling at 0.8 pretty stable but when I turn the AC on its idling between 0.8 to 1 every few seconds
@@dba99985, I know that your idle will usually increase when the AC is turned on to compensate for the extra load on the engine but 800 -1000 RPM seems high. Did you say you reset while the AC was running? I reset mine with the AC off.
I didn't have to do the throttle relearn procedure. the results may vary. its possible you may have to run that procedure. There are many videos on how to do that so like i mentioned in the video to keep it short I just showed how to use the Foxwell to reset the Throttle Position.
I got my self a HDS cable and softaware (hard time to find foxwell). I did same reset and then run test for tb. All worked after that. Didn't need re-learn like you said.
Robby Tampus, sorry it took so long to reply. Yes this tool will help. I would also recommend searching for the idle relearn procedure. I hope you get it running right.
I replaced the TBPS and my car ran worse after I put in a new one. Initially all I thought you had to do was buy a new one, install it and you're all set. There is actually steps after that. Lo and behold the TBPS came with some simple instructions. I had to clear the positioning sensor code, and rev the car between 40 and 70mph for several minutes turn the car on and off and magically the engine light disappeared. So it's not just a remove install and that's all process.
@@hiddenadventure no not reverse! This stupid phone auto filled the rest of the word. I meant rev. I basically drove the car to a steady 40mph and it came off and everything worked.
That is awesome! I didn't know you could simply reset. My car wasn't throwing a code, so there was nothing for me to reset. I'm glad for you that it was just that simple. :-)
Changing the vehicle PCM is kindof a big deal. I'm not sure this Foxwell has the ability to reprogram. I was looking online and diagnostic tools that have that ability are around $1,200. Not sure its worth it. You may want to go to a mechanic shop that can do it for you or call around and see how much they charge. I guess at this point it couldn't hurt trying the function on the Foxwell. If it works, let me know. Cheers
I always prefer to do things myself, and if I can't I'll take it in.... Every car I've ever had always has more problems then it should after I take it to any shop... I'll never trust a shop
I imagine it would. I wish I could give you a definite answer but I have only done it on my little civic. I know that it helps to have the specific vehicle programmed into the machine. I’ve also gotten comments that some local mechanics are more willing to do it for way less than the dealerships, so you can always try that too. Thanks for reaching out and good luck!😀
Scott, I'm not sure. I specifically bought the scan tool to fix that one issue and it worked. I would have to hook it up and mess with it a bit more. I'll see if I can't get some time to do that tonight. I'll let you know
Scott, I've been looking all over for the option for idle air volume control. The only other adjustment option it gives me is for the crank sensor. (crank CKP pattern) my civic is NGV and it's been running so rough lately especially with the Ac running. I finally bought some coil packs off Amazon. They are the QYL brand $56 for the set. It changed everything! My car doesn't stumble at all anymore. I'm not sure how long they will last but it's better than dealer price at $180 each.
The bluedriver is not a "bidirectional" scan tool. In other words, it can receive information from the car, but it can't tell the car to do something. It won't fix this kind of a problem, unfortunately.
I was going to return mine after I use it. But I am going to keep it. I think one trip to the dealership pays for it. I went to the dealership once and they charged me $136 just to change 1 spark plug. They wanted to change all of them for $485. But I told them no I would come pick up up.
Update: I went ahead and bought the foxwell. Completely fixed my transmission shift issue after cleaning the throttle body and MAF. Good buy from amazon
Ok I got my foxwell today and I did the rest one word I can say, magical!! Car run great again But I didn’t like the vision of the NT510 amazon send it to me First I thing it’s not new, look like it’s been used and even there is no sticker on the screen to protect Second thing I guess is old version of the NT510 The Honda Acura logo look deferent, like blue circle and Honda name on the center and below Acura And the screen resolution look poor comparing to Yours They give me good reason to retune it
I tried that too because its free. i wish it had worked for me but it didn't. So i did the Honda Idle relearn procedure and that didn't work either. so i asked the dealer and they were going to charge be $100 or more just to look at at the car. so I got on the internet and bought the Foxwell. I still couldn't find the option to reset the TP. So after messing with the scan tool for an hour I finally found the setting and wanted to share.
This might be a dumb question but do you think any OBD2 scanner will work or does it have to be one with a larger interface? I just cleaned my throttle body and replaced my mass airflow sensor and to say that my car is running weirdly would be putting it lightly LOL
The OBD2 scan tool I used was the Foxwell because it has the ability to not only read but also write to the car. So you can reset the Throttle position which was likely changed during cleaning. Seems we both had the same problem after cleaning. Best of luck :)
That's a good question. I'm guessing it will. Most cars 1996 and newer have an OBD2 port to plug in a scanner. I just don't know if the 2005 Acura RSX has a computer operated throttle position sensor or not.
@@marvingjimenez7252 make sure to connect the device to your home computer and download the 1 free specific car software to the device. There should be instructions in the box on how to do this.
It is normal for the butterfly to be slightly open, it has to let some air through. I have also seen some that close all the way but there is a small hole in it to let air through. But most just stay cracked open a bit.
Oh ok. So I just can go and reset the throttle position? When I cleaned the TB first I turned the key on and pressed the acc pedal to keep the butterfly open while cleaning It but I moved It a little bit. Was that bad??
That'snot necessarily bad. It could make it so you need to do a reset though. The main thing you want to be careful doing is forcing it open and stripping gears and stuff. But you really have to ram horn your fingers in there. If it just moved a little. You should be ok. But keep in mind, just cleaning it allows more air to go through so even that difference can require a reset. I've also cleaned them and afterwards the cars computer auto-adjusts so no reset required. You'll know when you get it put back together and drive it around for a bit.
Foxwell (and Autel) is a Chinese company lacking in all moral character, in my opinion, and whose personnel will lie repeatedly to make a sale. On multiple occasions I queried both the Chinese and US staff on whether their scanners could perform a certain series of functions and I received a yes in all cases. Trouble was, there was NO way this could happen as the vehicle was not equipped/capable of having the particular operations performed on it. Bosch and Actron resellers that I spoke with were quick to state they were not able to conduct said operations, and deserve a thumbs up for their honesty. Yes some OBD 2 scanners are a welcome addition to your tool equipment, but to support those who are dishonest is not the way to go. Bottomline: forgo the Chinese made scanners and buy elsewhere and let it be known that dishonesty deserves nothing less.

I am actually clean the throttle body but didn’t have any warning light on, but I fell the idling not right
Should I do the throttle position rest any way or only in case warring light appear?
I’m still not sure if I need the scan till but I want give it a shot because I fell something not working properly.
My car work better before I clean throttle body 🤨
When AC is on the idling not stable at all and vibrate a lot
And when I come to a full stop I fell I need press harder on the breaks because idling reduce to low.
Good luck.
Kraid 65$ at local shop
135$ at the dealer
I decide to buy the tool any way I’ll need it in the future
So after doing a tps reset u gotta do the idle relearn as well?
Yes. Do this before doing the idle relearning
Will the dealer charge you for erasing those codes?
I don’t think a dealer is allowed to erase codes unless they are doing it through the diagnostic process. They will definitely charge you for any diagnostic work and the price keeps going up.
this definitely solved my problem. Thank you very much.
I got a question did you have to do the official so-call 3,000 RPM idle relearn procedure afterwards?
Or just drive and the car learned how you want to drive?
I'm just not a big fan of this procedure so much controversy over the Internet even today .
The scanner tells you to idle the vehicle for 10 minutes. At the end, your idle is where it needs to be.
i have a honda crv 2005 with an electronic throttle body that scanner should work ?
I don't see why it wouldn't work. I wish I could give you a difinitive answer though. I've just never used it on anything else.
Kraid ok yeah I just wanna get my tb cleaning 🧻 so I I need to get one of those before clean it up the tb
What version are you running? Because on my screen all the words appear blue where as in urs u have OBDII and u have the Honda logo with an Acura one where as in mine it doesn’t appear like that, yet it’s the same Fox well model
Erick Mijangos you may need to manually download the Honda software from foxwell site, onto the TF card that should've come with the unit
Erick, Farman is right. I had to download the honda software for my specific car. The device came with one free download and I used it for 2010 civic.
Nice job, thanks for sharing.
What code did you have p1129
I believe my code was p0507 but I’m sorry I don’t remember fully. The p1129 is more from reading values from the MAP sensor. Sometimes MAP sensor cleaner can help with that. I know I eventually replaced mine. It wasn’t too expensive.
Oh OK thank you buddy
Can you raised rpm with this scan tool
I looked into that and was not able to adjust the RPMs. I think I was having the same problem as you with low RPM and a stutter with the AC on. My car would even stall sometimes. I thought maybe it was the ignition coils but they are too expensive through the dealer so I bought the 50 dollar set on Amazon and it solved my problem. Just make sure to match your car's year make and model.
What is the cheapest scanner toll can do this reset?
I have 2014 accord 3.5 L
So reset is only thing you need to do? No need to make learning procedures with sertain rpm etc.?
I didn't have to do the re-learn procedure after reseting the throttle position but It wouldn't hurt.
Can you tell me which cable and software did you use?
I got cable from local store, but this looks identical. www.dx.com/p/hds-cable-obd2-diagnostic-cable-for-honda-black-208490
i have clean my throtle body and my rpm is so high and the check engine comes on .so thid thing help?
How do You safely drive the car in reverse at 40 + mph? That's some serious fast and furious stuff right there. Lol
I was of surprised to read reverse in 40 mph or more..
And on and off engine while at 40 mph or more?
@@hiddenadventure no not reverse! This stupid phone auto filled the rest of the word. I meant rev. I basically drove the car to a steady 40mph and it came off and everything worked.
And all the process have to be with the engine running?
Not necessarily. Just with the key on so the scan tool can read and write to the computer.
@@hiddenadventure Ok. Thank you so much. Very good video!!!
kraid will this work for my car?
What about Foxwell nt510 elite? Still does the same thing
Not sure. I've never heard of the elite. I would imagine it does by the name. Sounds like it's an upgrade...
Hi there does your nt510 elite worked? About to order one, to do idle relearn on my 2012 honda pilot
I have a cheap OBD scan tool and I only needed to clear the codes for my TPS to reset back to 800. Weird.
That is awesome! I didn't know you could simply reset. My car wasn't throwing a code, so there was nothing for me to reset. I'm glad for you that it was just that simple. :-)
But I think best way is to get a proper scan tool like yours. For under 200 bucks its worth it.
So I Replaced My Pcm ... So Would I Click Replace Ecm/Pcm ?!
Cheers
Yeah I Read Online & They Used The Scanner . So I Hope It Works . 😎
Great video, thanks for sharing!
I always prefer to do things myself, and if I can't I'll take it in....
Every car I've ever had always has more problems then it should after I take it to any shop... I'll never trust a shop
Thanks alot gee...u saved me
Will this work on a Chevy Malibu
I imagine it would. I wish I could give you a definite answer but I have only done it on my little civic. I know that it helps to have the specific vehicle programmed into the machine. I’ve also gotten comments that some local mechanics are more willing to do it for way less than the dealerships, so you can always try that too. Thanks for reaching out and good luck!😀
does it also have idle air volume control as well?
Kraid awesome. thanks for the info
Thanks for the run through
God bless you man thanks
I have a 08 so and it's acting crazy after the headgasket issue
Has anyone used this with the bluedrive scanner? Looking to get the bluedrive instead of the foxwell to fix my issue
Good buy from amazon
skyeric875 You still use it?
@@thurm101 nah unless I have another problem. Prob loan it to some friends ecentually
Ok I got my foxwell today and I did the rest
one word I can say, magical!!
Car run great again
But I didn’t like the vision of the NT510 amazon send it to me
First I thing it’s not new, look like it’s been used and even there is no sticker on the screen to protect
Second thing I guess is old version of the NT510
The Honda Acura logo look deferent, like blue circle and Honda name on the center and below Acura
And the screen resolution look poor comparing to Yours
They give me good reason to retune it
We'll I'm glad it worked for you. That is so cool. And I agree in sending it back for a refund if they sent you a used one.
did it come pre loaded with honda stuff , or doid you have to install it from a computer ?
@@DanK-Mtb it came with one free vehicle download. It was not pre-loaded. I went to the company website and downloaded my 1 free civic download.
I had same issue. I just took negative battery cable off for 3 min. Then put it back on and let it idle for 5 to 10 min without anything on
I tried that too because its free. i wish it had worked for me but it didn't.
Hey everyone. Has anyone tried this on the older Civics. I'm especially interested in 2003-2004 years.
Will it work for 2005 rsx?
That's a good question. I'm guessing it will. Most cars 1996 and newer have an OBD2 port to plug in a scanner. I just don't know if the 2005 Acura RSX has a computer operated throttle position sensor or not.
Did your car show code P0171 ?
No, my guess is that it wasn't misfiring enough to send a code.
Kraid i bought the machine. Don’t have the same icon from Honda/Acura
@@marvingjimenez7252 make sure to connect the device to your home computer and download the 1 free specific car software to the device. There should be instructions in the box on how to do this.
where can i find that specific slingshot library?
Do you think I can use it for a crv 2006?
greetings
I have gotten feedback that it will work on other makes and models and years. It should work if your CRV has an electronic throttle body.
mine didn't have number 12 as an option what happened?
h22sparks Did you have to update your scanner online or was it a fake?
The tb butterfly on my acura tl is slightly open. That's the way It should be or has to close all the way?
Bottomline: forgo the Chinese made scanners and buy elsewhere and let it be known that dishonesty deserves nothing less.
has anyone tested this without cleaning their throttle body yet?
DO NOT BUY INNOVA OBD
Was a complete waste of time and didn't even have the relearn function for Honda... -.-
Just ordered this foxwell OBD reader. Hoping it fixes my headache of an issue.
Do I need to do the tps calibration with the car on or off ?
Trying to recall… usually using the scan tool with the key in the 2nd position but with the car not running.
hi, works with a civic 2016?
Yes, it should work the same.
