The Adidas Dropset Trainer 2 has been one of my favorite training shoes for lifting that's come out over the last few years.
This shoe features dual-density midsole which means that the foam used in this shoe varies depending on where it's located. I find this super interesting because it gives this model variance regarding its feel when training.
On top of this, there's a TPU cut out in the midsole for ventilation and I wanted to see what that fully entailed from an internal point of view.
To gain a better understanding of the Dropset Trainer 2's construction and what makes it so good for lifting, I cut my pair in half.
I wanted to see just how dense and pliable the different textured foams were and I wanted to see what the upper looked like regarding its materials and layers.
If you currently use the Dropset Trainer 2 for training, what do you think of them?
Hopefully this video gives you a better idea of what exactly is on your feet in the gym.

great review!
Thanks for checking it out!
Thanks for the detailed reviews, I really like your style and research. I would be incredibly grateful for your recommendation between the Reign 6 and the Dropset2.
If I were to only have one shoe, what would be the better option, or if I got a separate shoe for the longer runs, what would you recommend?
I do all round training that includes heavy weight lifting (squats/deadlifts/lunges) and step ups with weights, CrossFit movements, HIIT and cardio (burpees/box jumps/bodymovement + machines) and short runs that range from 200-400 meter bouts per round which can add up to 1 or 2 kms in a session, and sometimes we do 1km runs multiple times in a session, however I'm considering using a separate set of shoes for running days.
Reign 6 would be solid here. The Dropset can work, but I think its density may be a turn-off if you're running in them often each week! And thank you!
Thank you for this video. I am considering purchasing between the Dropset Trainer 2 and the UA Tribase Reign 6. Both shoes are super comfortable and I like the look of the Adidas shoes. However, I have concerns about the durability of materials during Cross Fit training in Dropset 2. They look delicate.
Eh, they’ve held up well for me and others! I’d say go with those if they feel best
Really love everything you do!🎉🎉
Between these ones and the Tribase Reign 6, what would you recommend for lifting in the gym (free weights and machines)?
I have both and either one is a great choice. It will boil down to whether you want more toebox room and overall stability (Dropset) or a slightly tighter fit that has more flexibility out of the box (Reign 6). If we're talking strictly lifting and no cardio/HIIT/plyometrics, I'd say dropset, but we'll wait for Jake's reply. ;)
I love both, but I'd go Dropset 2 for primarily a lifting ask!
My mans knows!
hi bro, have a little question, now i have metcon 7, is it a best deal if i change it to dropset 2? or stick with my metcon 7?
my activities only for gym like squat, deadlift, crosft and hit (1 week 4-5times)
Go Dropset 2. They slap and are way better performers than the 7, imo.
I bought a pair of adidas dropset 1 one year and a half ago because of your recomendation for wide feet lifters and I absolutely love them. Nevertheless, this christmas I also bought a pair of nike metcon 9 thinking they were much wider than previous models but i had to return them because they weren´t wide enough. Do you recommend me buying this model instead?
I’d give them a go. The Dropset 2 SLAP & they’ve been stellar. Keen to see if these resonate with your feet!
@@thatfitfriend Thanks Jake !!!
Hey Jake, I am thinking whether to buy this one or Reebok Zig Dynamica 4. My daily workout is mainly on cardio and hybrid type of training. I am only worried about the cut out in midsole. Do you think if I have to walk on a wet/muddy road this would cause any issue ?
Zig will be more comfortable for running. The cutout will def be an issue on wet and muddy roads
I am an athlete and just order dropset trainer 2 at $60 over Nike mc trainer 2 and Reebok nano x3 , getting these all at same price . What you think I do strength training + cross fit , stability exercise , plymatrics , power , hits . I bought these shoes only for training and have different shoes for running .
Made the right call
With that window in the outsole, do they smell like other shoes?
I haven't had stank issues at all and I feel like it should help in the long-run compared to other models!
Did you experience pinching on the toe box due to flexion?
I did not, but a few have with this model. Seems to be very rare but it does happen for some foot anatomies!
Jake, please do review of adidas rapidmove adv trainer 😁😁😁😁😁
I have them on my list :)

@@stefanstanimirovic2814 I got you!
ngl, everytime you cut a pair I suffer inside a little bit. that being said, I'm loving the series
Seeing who's using quality materials and who's skimping...LOL
Jake! Dropset 2 or UA reign 6?? This is a hard one 🤣🤣
How do you train? Like what's a normal week look like?
@@thatfitfriend just competitive bodybuilding, no hiit training 🤣
@@kimhernandez7621 I’d go Dropset then!
@@thatfitfriend thanks jake!!!!!!
@@kimhernandez7621 welcome! 🤝
I cry inside every time you cut a pair of shoes in half... mostly because we wear the same size. If it was a different size, I could care less. 😢🤑
😂 that’s fair!
