🎂happy birthday Jake! Thanks for all you do! I’d never heard of The Total until now but they look super solid- do you think they’d hold up to daily wear or are they too specific to lifting?
Hi! I am a size 42.5, but the Totals at 42.5 are slightly larger, with more room than usual in the toe box. On the other hand, the 42 is a bit narrow. The ideal size would be something between them!😅 So, having that in mind, what size do you suggest I choose?
Cheers for the review, mate. As someone who leaves the cardio for my running shoes, these seem like a great fit for "just gym" shoes! New sub from Australia 👍
What do you think of these for deadlift, sled drag, & yoke?? I have a pair of Olympic weightlifters for my squats and overhead for strongman I’m looking for something other then my vans for these other events!
Between The Total, the Altra Solstice XT 2, and the Lems Primal Zen which do you think is the best for basketball/jumping on concrete in terms of cushion and lateral support? I'm looking for a zero drop + wide toe box shoe thats good for basketball and the Xero 360 doesn't have enough cushion for me.
The solstice XT 2 would be your best bet between these - the only drawback is it’s long-term durability for outdoor training. It’s not the best for high friction activities on concrete. Total is okay, too, but may feel too blocky for the ask of basketball!
These shoes give me an old-school kicks kind of vibe. The white/green/yellow colorway along with the three stripes has like 70s or 80s feel to them. I could be wrong on the look of the shoe but does look like a solid shoe all around.
@@thatfitfriend they are not so thick. I'll try to remove the original insoles in case I need more space. I ordered the shoes and they'll arrive next week. I'll give you a feedback ;)
I just ordered this shoe off of ebay size 8.5, which I normally wear a 9, but every video or article I've read everyone said that it would be best to downsize a half size. Hopefully I'll get them before my next squat training.
These reviews are great really appreciate man 👍🏻. I like to do heavy deadlifts and squats in my workouts which is perfect for this shoe but I also do walking lunges and Bulgarian split squats so I’m not sure if this shoe is the best.
Is there such a thing as real flat weightlifting shoes? That shoe looks great, but I was thinking more like a flat shoe but one that has the completely flat, solid sole like the adipowers. If anybody knows of anything I’d greatly appreciate it.
Hi, I'm considering the purchase of this model or "powerlift 5" you have also reviewed on your your channel. Which one would you recommend? I need shoes for lifting but I also do more dynamic exercises like jumps and burpees. I know elevated heels help at squats etc but don't they interfere with the other exercises? perhaps flat treads will be better?
Hey! So with these models you're going to have super different fits and feels. The Total is a zero-drop shoes and the Powerlift 5 is weightlifting shoe. In the context of use cases, you'll want to keep the Powerlift 5 to squats, clean & jerks, snatches, and other quad-focused exercises, they won't be the model for jumps, HIIT, etc. The Total will be a little more versatile and can work in those contexts, but you may be better suited going for a good stable cross-training shoes if your priority is versatility and moving weight versus a heavier bias on strength training! If you're dead set on these two, go The Total, but just note that a 0mm heel-to-toe drop versus the .6" in the Powerlift 5 will translate different for squat performance which isn't necessarily a bad nor good thing, just something to keep in mind when comparing different shoes to weightlifting shoes.
I’m starting to get into functional bodybuilding from Marcus filly, would this be a good shoe for that? Or would a shoe like the nanoflex tr 2 be better?
It depends on your preferences, honestly! Flat Vs a low drop will support performance differently for different athletes. I think you’d be safe with either model, tbh. The Total will be better suited for straight lifting contexts.
is this shoe too soft to go outdoors because i want to wear these to the gym not carry them separately. do you think it would be able to handle some light walking
Great question. Tough to compare, though, because the Xero is more or less a true barefoot shoe whereas the Total does have a little more cushion/stack height. IMO, if you want more width and to get as close to the ground as possible between these two - I'd go with the Forza. They're both pretty solid, though, low-key, and I think you'd be happy with either.
Somewhat, I'd describe them more so as barefoot shoes with a bit more cushion, relatively speaking (they'll still run stabler, but have a bit more material than traditional minimalist models).
you are really on point with your shoes man haha i see you have longer legs and short torso just as me iam now squatting lowbar on nike romaleos but when i go heavier i lose my balance and tipping forward a bit do you have the same problem? ive filmed myself from diffrent angles in socks and romaleos with socks i feel way more balanced but iam a little more bend over because of my long legs (almost good morning style) and with the romaleos iam a bit more upright it looks better on video but doesnt veel better of you know what i mean... some people say a little less heel feels better maybe the adidas powerlifts with a 0.5 inch heel instead of 0.75 but does this really makes a big difference? normally i just deadlift on socks in the gym so wanna hear your opinion on the shoes should i buy a 0.5 heel or going to maybe this shoe for squats i see you have a video on the new adidas too the 5s i believe is this also a 0.5 inch heel?
Try ditching the heel for your low-bar squats and using a flatter shoe/going barefoot! Elevated heels can create that folding chair positioning at times for lifters squatting low-bar with long legs. It really depends though because it's tough to say without seeing your form. When going high-bar and working on torso mechanics, the heel will come in handy for your build! The Powerlift's heel is .6". IMO, I wouldn't stress the .6" vs .75" difference in this context and I'd save the money and not invest in a new pair of weightlifting shoes just yet!
I dont get why this feesl more flat and level compared to an altra shoe, anybody else noticed that? this are great i would even say way better than any of the Altra "crossfit" shoes that they released.
It likely has to do with the stack height and midsole compression. In the Altra you’ll have the forefoot compress at a faster rate so it likely feels that your heel is higher than your forefoot in then whereas the Adidas don’t compress and keep your feet flatter. Just my guess!
@@thatfitfriend well I have used flat shoes before. When I was heavily involved with powerlifting in the 80’s and again after I retired from military starting in Jan 07- 2012 I was back into powerlifting and then I was lifting in the adidas original sambo soccer shoes
The Total run about .5-1 full size longer than the Tolos and Primus. Width wide, the Primus and Tolos both beat the Total by about 1 cm. Hope that helps!

I wanna buy shoes specifically for Squats and Deadlifts and leg training in general (lunges etc) and less for running, maybe a little bit of plyometric work. What do you recommend more, the Under Armour TriBase Reign 4 (or TriBase 3) or the Adidas The Total?
All will work fine, honestly. Depends what you want though! The Total will be limited to just lifting while the TriBase will also work for cross-training if you wanted a shoe for tackling plyos/short runs here and there, too!
@@thatfitfriend Thanks man, isn't the 3 cm sole width of the TriBase 4 too high to be ideally stable for Squats and Deadlifts? The Adidas Total sole seems like 2 cm width. Is that difference meaningful for stability in heavy Squats?

@@thatfitfriend Just came back from leg day: incline treadmill walking for warmups, barbell squats, laying ham curls, seated calf raises in the adjustable leg press and finishing off with narrow foot leg press in a loaded leg press machine. The shoes are too big, I need to go a size smaller. I felt like walking around with clown shoes at some point, yet I already went down a size before picking them up. Yet, they still fit well and feel good. Lovely combo of flat with a little padding. Doesn’t feel unstable and it feels good to adjust laces on the fly and tightness with the Velcro strap. I’ll return them and try to get a smaller size. My issue in general is that I tend to have a wider front of foot compared to length, but with the way they are fitted and designed they open and spread nicely around the toe knuckles. Wouldn’t use them for anything other than weightlifting and stability though.
@@slimefudge interesting, I’ve had other athletes also find them to run bigger than one size. 100%, these are designed fully for strength work and I’d also pass on them for anything versatility related. Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences, friend 🤝

For someone with neutral/wide feet, for strenght workouts (with deadlifts, squats, front squats, bulgarian split squats...) and who trains recreationaly, which is the overall best shoes to buy? I'm so divided between a lot of shoes: - metcon 8 - rebook nano x2 - adidas the total - adidas powerlift 5 - Reebok Lifter PR II
All so different! In this mix, you have 2 weightlifting shoes, 2 cross trainers, a lifting-focused zero drop model. These shoes will have different fits and feels. If your goal is versatility, pass on the weightlifting shoes. IMO, they’d be a worthwhile investment down the road when you want a shoe with a heel elevation for specific exercises. X2 and Metcon 8 will give you the best all-around performance. 8 fits more narrow and is better for lifting, X2 is wider and works decently for most things. Total is great for wide feet, but has a zero drop construction which may feel different for you and you’ll need to acclimate to them if you’ve been using shoes with higher drops. Plus, if your anatomy doesn’t necessarily align with zero drop shoes you’ll want to explore using a wedge or lifting shoes to support performance!
@@thatfitfriend thanks for your time! I will probably get the metcon 8 (when there’s stock… there was some yesterday for my number, today was gone). Otherwise I’m going to pick the rebook nano x2! Thank you once more 👌
@@thatfitfriend I just bought the Adidas The Total and I really enjoy them. The toebox is somehow wide, but I'm happy I didn't went down half size since it would probably be too small for my feet afterwards. Have you tried the notorious sumo deadlifters? I mainly pull sumo and that's what I use now, would you recommend these as a replacement to those for someone who mainly pulls sumo?
I haven’t, but they’re on my list of slippers to dive into. I thought these did a fairly good job with sumo. I don’t think grip/stability will be an issue with these versus the Notorious. However, these will have less “ground feel” which could be something to consider if you prefer the slipper fit:feel over traditionally soles in shoes!

They’re live now on Champs site! Uncertain on main site. Have them linked in my written review - can also just search them if you don’t feel like going to article.
@@thatfitfriend thanks ! Of course I'll read the article.
@@thuirwyne thank you!
I hate these new "faux" recycled materials. They look like they will last 3 months
I decided to buy them, but watching how they bend and fold.. I don't know
More and more companies are shifting to them. Sounds like there’s only one way of knowing, though…have to put em to the test 👀
@@thatfitfriend Sounds like crazy profits for them 😅
How are they holding up?
@@alexworm1707 I wear them only on deadlifts day, 10-15 times, they are like new up to now
@@flowinthrou thx for the reply, how do you like them? Think they're worth it?
Damn! I was about to finally spend 200+ for the adistar.
The older model?
@@thatfitfriend exactly my point. Hahah. Can't justify paying that much. $100 is more palatable. just found the black color way on Zappos for $84. Thanks for the review!
@@BossFinale thanks for checking it out 🤝
What is the release date on the totals
TBD on Adidas site. They’re like right now on Champs in the US. Have them linked in my review in description!
Genuinely looks like a good court shoe
What kind of court? I can’t see these for any kind of court related sports.
@@elitestar cheers pal
@@itamaravraham4068 Meh, pretty negligible for most recreational lifters, tbh. If you're worried about that, then go with The Total. That shoe is stellar and I think you'll be happy with them.
@@thatfitfriend Thanks very much, appreciate your responsiveness and clear answers. Love your channel, keep it up💪🏼
Maybe consider uploading more fitness per se content, you seems like a great and well rounded athlete and very knowledgeable
@@itamaravraham4068 Welcome! Keep me posted on how you like them.
Thank you! I'll upload more soon. It's always tough to film by myself and make it interesting, honestly, and I'm getting less burnt out with fitness content which I have been for a bit, so I'll upload more throughout Sept :)
Been using the New Balance prevail for the past two years, but they’re starting to crumble.
Eager to try these out today 😊
Keep me posted on your thoughts!
@@thatfitfriend anytime! I would also like to point out that I got them during an autumn sale with a 35% discount, directly from their online store. The sale has ended, but I contacted them to ask if it would be possible to swap sizes for the same price. They were helpful, simple, knowledgeable and forthcoming with grade a service. Old shoes are being shipped in return tomorrow and new shoes discounted to the same as I paid during the sale will be shipped tomorrow.
Simple great customer service makes everything better 🙌🏼
I hope my college next year gets me a pair otherwise im about to empty my pockets lol
What size are you again?
@@thatfitfriend I got the average size 9 lol
@@averellchen shooting you a DM tomorrow
@@thatfitfriend Jake about to sell these shoes?! Don't blame him. Although from memory Jake is like US size 11.
@@fikretpajalic1224 nah, sending a pair out of pocket for college! Everyone needs a gift here and there, homie! 💪
For someone with neutral/wide feet, for strenght workouts (with deadlifts, squats, front squats, bulgarian split squats...) and who trains recreationaly, which is the overall best shoes to buy? I'm so divided between a lot of shoes:
- metcon 8
- rebook nano x2
- adidas the total
- adidas powerlift 5
- Reebok Lifter PR II
I wanted to go with the nike metcon 7 or 8. But they were more expensive and the ones I wanted were out of stock. I think that having the Adidas The Total for 77€ was a great deal!
The review I was waiting for. Thank you! HBD!
Thank you!!!
@@thatfitfriend what site did you purchase from?
@@zanelobetos4276 went off workout. eu, but also also available on Champs in the US
@@thatfitfriend what size did you go with?
@@zanelobetos4276 9.5 and I normally wear 10. I love the fit, 10 would have been too long for me, imo
Thanks for the review, and happy birthday!! This looks like the perfect shoe for my no heel rise Olympic weightlifting needs, as we've been discussing offline. Can't wait to get mine!
Quick question: will this shoe accept flatter feet? Adidas always seems catered to European feet.
Thank you! Right? Perfect timing for this drop.
They should, but you’ll have to let me know. This model’s last is different from traditional Adi shoes
@@thatfitfriend so excited! What percentages did you hit in your supertotal in the video?
@@molohov3875 nothing too crazy! Was using a loaner belt and it’s always tough hitting heavier numbers when traveling. Capped deads @ 525, squats @ 365, and cleans @ 225!
Didn’t bench because all benches were taken at the Gold’s we were at and I cbb waiting 😅
@@thatfitfriend thanks! good to see numbers as I'm sure strength athletes would like to know how shoes perform at those high levels!
@@molohov3875 then you look at guys like Ben Pollack who talked on these shoes the other week and that’s NEXT LEVEL strength 😅
Looks flimsy, cheap and overpriced. Shoe that tries to be everything but achieves nothing. Hard pass!
