Do I have to make sure the car battery is off to make sure not to blow the airbag? I can’t tell if you did that or not.

Thank you for the video. It's difficult to find a video the show how to do this. It saved me. And good job on starting, as per your other comment from a viewer, it was good enough to know what to do and there's a pause button.
    Thank you!!!

Thank you, and if you guys have any jobs you’d like a video on let me know. In the past I was a Toyota Master Tech for 10 years now I’m working on pretty much everything. I’’ll be focusing on making my videos thorough, simple and straight to the point.

Side note, when you are pushing the pins in to release the horn/airbag, make sure to push in towards the center of the steering column and not out towards the steering wheel.

Can someone please tell me if you need to disconnect the battery from the car when dealing with the airbag?

I would 100%. I'm about to do this in a few minutes and no way in heck am I going to work on a live airbag. It's not worth the risk. I'll also turn the key on to drain any residual capacitance.
EDIT: Turns out my replacement part is the wrong one for this car. However there are 3 holes at 3, 6, 9 o'clock that release the airbag pad. The pad will now come out and can be set aside still attached through the top of the wheel. There are four silver screws on the back of the wheel: two at the 3/9 o'clock and two at the 6 o'clock positions. Remove those. Inside the wheel cavity there are four fine threaded electroplated (gold ish) screws. Remove those. The latches for both switch modules can be relaxed by pressing upward on the underside of each connector. I used a long flat bladed driver to do this. My channel selector switch (left side, paired with volume/mute) had failed by the black plastic rocker switch breaking so the white plastic plunger was not lowering. I'm attempting to epoxy.

@frederf3227 thanks for the reply. How did it go for you? I chickened out and left the volume control broken 😂😅 my friend mechanic also didn't want to attempt this because of the airbag..

This was helpful, but I had trouble with finding the pins to release the airbag. Could you add a clip of what they look like so people know that a flat surface works better to release the pins than a pointy one.

Is there any risk of setting off the airbag by opening up the steering wheel? Any tips to mitigate that?

So stupid how engineers design things. This should be a simple screw in the back of simply pop out. But noooooo

This could have been useful... if you kept the camera a bit more still... in instead of waving it around... much of the time you are also too close to see where things are related in relation to other parts. Try actually dismantling the thing first so you know what to do, as it's obvious you didn't have a clue how it came apart. so how on earth do you expect to be able to teach me? Sorry, to be harsh, but it was a wasted opportunity.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m just getting this channel started so it really helps. Working as a flat rate tech I don’t get much preparation but I appreciate your comment and will use the advice in my future videos. If you have any specific questions you need answers to leave them in the comments.
