I personally would have loved to see it completely straight to really see how this haircut lies. as most of my fine haired clients have naturally straight hair and curling isn’t an option. Other than that, great video !
My hair is thin AND fine so hairdressers don't like to take me too seriously and don't know what to do so I cut my own. Usually just the front to frame my face.
Then find one who will. Your paying for a service and your hair type is common. Hair dressers can become egotistical so shopping around for a good one is necessary.
@@AgendaInMind what is a wand. I have thin fine hair. I didn't used to. But I'm old now, and due to medication my hair is thin. Coumadin makes your hair fall out. 3 months after you start the medication. Boom. It's all over the place.
I love everything you do! With exception of the point cutting. I have very fine hair & point cutting is my nightmare! Make my hair look like rats have chewed on it! 😊 But ur knowledge is phenomenal!! U do the best explaining!! 👍
I wish I could have seen how the layers looked in a straight style :/ love your videos though- you’ve taught me a ton and given me so much inspiration!
Great video! Graduating Cos. School in June & you have helped me understand so much more. I have trouble determining how much length to take off the layers, especially cuts like this where you begin with the interior. Would love a video going in depth on layering various hair types and transitioning to different hair cuts & layers
Beautiful well explained as usual. Would this be a good shape for a fine thinner haired client who wants to wear it straight who has a longer face shape? Or is it probably too much layering?
@free salon education. Hey there, I'm Gideon sherpa from India and I'm also a hair dresser at salon Blow chennai (India) and great things is I fallow you, I fallow each and every haircut from yr free salon education and it's really helpful for me and for my career. Just wanna say thank you from bottom of my heart.😊 Thank you.
I personally have fine hair and where it shoulder length with blunt cut because layers makes the hair very thin and see-thru! The worst part is when you go for your next haurcut, you are screwed! The blunt cut offers more style options, including drying naturally and scrunching.
Liked the video even though mannequin hair is not really fine like human hair. My only question, I've watched the video a few times. I don't see where you get your guide for the back? Did you take a small piece from the front to use as the guide OR are you creating a new guide just based on your consult with the client? Thanks again for your informative videos. Always helpful.
ugh I wished you lived in my city! I recently moved to a new place and need to find a new hairdresser that can do this exact technique on me, no luck so far! Just butchered my hair recently lol. My hairdresser before did this exact technique on my fine hair and it made such a difference!
awesome vlog. Two questions how do you determine the length of hair that you original remove. and second when fininshed with the front quadrants did you take a section from the front to determine where to cut on the back quadrant
Looks nice....i just dont understand why almost every haidresser curls the hair after hair cutting and coloring. You cant really see the haircut if the hair is not straigth. Not everyone wears their hair curly let alone looks good in it. And straight hair never lies whether its suppps to show the cut and even more important the hair colour. Straight hair never lie 😁 anyways love you videos and cuts, just would love it if you could style the hair both ways for demonstration.
Most of my cuts I show straight and people complain. This cut was specifically to show how to add volume to fine hair so making it straight wouldn’t have made sense. Also it’s hard to get volume in the hair after you straighten it. Thanks for watching the videos and I appreciate your feedback 👍🏻.
Yessss. These messy straighter end curls these days. I cant tell if it would work for me because I dont curl this way most times. I like very lose victorias secret bend curls lol i was just going to post this very thing.
Same i keep watching to see that transition and dont see in literally cutting right now, oh well I've been successful doing my own without a video so twill be what it is
We are all learning all the time and with each client. We mostly all have continued education all the time. It’s not just shows anymore as just watching some of these other stylists on you tube we keep learning but there are full of online classes as well
Absolutely, everyone is continually learning. However, when you make an appointment to see a style Director you would hope they had a certain level of experienced knowledge. Sadly this is not the case in any salon I’ve visited. Time spent in a salon should not dictate level of seniority. It should be knowledge, qualifications and customer feedback.
Amazing video, thank you so much for sharing your techniques. Can we follow the same principle of over-directing the hair if we where doing like an A-line cut for someone with fine/thin hair? In that case, how your hand would be positioned? I'm having trouble visualizing.
Matt, can you please provide classes to the hairdressers in South Australia 🇦🇺 please, please. I’ve lived in Adelaide for 10 years now and cannot find a hairdresser to layer my fine medium length hair. I literally “white knuckle “ every time I get my hair cut as I don’t know how it will look at the end. Still searching for a hairdresser here. If you know someone here that cuts like you, please let me know
My problem is I can never find a hairdresser that can cut with these techniques . What would I ask for? They will give me a crazy look if I say 3 layered haircut??? Also my side's are thin how can I tell them so I can make sure they don't layer the sides like you dont???
perfectingodseyes masters hi there!. As a hairstylist i take my time in consulting because i want to know what you want. I suggest for you to explain the end loom over all and also explain what you 'don't' want. Its important to not be affraid of saying something u dont like. It will help you communicate with the stylist and at the same time the stylist will grow n get better by learning what you like and dont like. Not every client is the same so please take your time saying how you wanna look.
I just went today and I explained just like you said too!!! It went pretty well. She even told me to bring in the in pics or videos of cuts I want so I'll be taking you in with me next time. I paid 162.00 plus 25 for olaplex for a full highlight, cut , blow dry and style with round brush. Thats not including tip .My hair lifted great with 30 developer and I have a med brown hair and it lifted to about a 9 and 10 in some places in 4 hrs. I had a stupid semi permeate brown on it so you know what happened in some spots. My haircut didn't turn out as great as yours but pretty damn close. I wish we lived closer. I'm in North Florida. Have a blessed day and I'll be watching!!!!!
Ahw i really love this hairstyle😍 I have very fine hair and this would be just the perfect style for me... but I can't go to my hairdresser and let her see this video and ask if she can do this... right...? Or can I...😩🙃
I love all of your vids. They have been very helpful for me and my classmates in my cosmetology class... Thank you for posting them! I am learning to cut hair way better with these awesome tutorials. Blessings Matt Beck 🙌🙏👍

What i want to see is a layered cut for not only fine straight hair, but also one that goes well on a round shaped face and fine thin hair. BUT requires no electric tools and is easy & fast...basically wash & go.
Love this haircut! But as of right now i’m trying to grow out my hair, any suggestions?? My hair is curly so just past shoulders once it’s straight about 2 inches longer. Would love to grow it long!!
I love your info! I've had my heart broken too many times with hairdressers who leave something to be desired, my family is nervous when I get a cut. Never good. Like this cut a lot, makes sense. I'm a girl from the 80s and if it didn't look so dated, would still be asking for shorter layers. I want big. Lol Like others say, curling just hides the cut. I wish I could see how the layers play. I'm also an ergonomist and yes please keep elbows tucked when possible.
That head does'nt really seem like it has fine hair to me honestly ! I could be wrong is there such a thing as someone having fine hair but alot of it ?
I need help. I just graduated school and as much as I try to understand hair cutting.. I just can’t. What is something that truly helped you when learning how to cut
are hair dressers taught to cut fine hair in school? every salon i ever been to never accommodate to the type of hair i have which waste a lot of time and money.
I'm no hair dresser. I've been cutting my own for years. I always watch your videos and kind of created my own way to cut my hair by taking different parts of your techniques and using them. My hair kind of sucks though because it's hard to do on myself and I get impatient and don't know what the f I'm doing. Pretty much. And other reasons. Whatdo you think about cutting your own hair? For a woman. I have lots of fine hairs. My ends get bad quickly because i use crappy scissors, I use a box color, and not the greatest products. And heat. Ohmygod. I never said that out loud before. These days, im broke. Im so poor. I never had a problem paying for awesome salon services. But I seriously do now. What should I do? Get a job huh?
Thank You for the Great hair cut, I really like it for me, I have that kind of hair, but try to not cut the ends, since they become to thin, how would You approach the curling at the ends. The whole haircut is full of volume, those ends though, and I'm saying it for people like me with thin hair, it's my struggle, if I layer the ends so much. Thank You for Your Mastery. 👏🏻
What i want to see is a layered cut for not only fine straight hair, but also one that goes well on a round shaped face and fine thin hair.
The best hair expert who explains how to know the angles by placing the comb vertical and horizontal over haid
This is the BEST haircut for fine, thin hair for those that like a medium length. Matt is so talented!
I personally would have loved to see it completely straight to really see how this haircut lies. as most of my fine haired clients have naturally straight hair and curling isn’t an option. Other than that, great video !
I %100 agree with you!
Exactly if I curl my thin straight hair it’s straight in 30 min and sticky from product that’s supposed to help hold curl and it don’t
This hairmangling looks awful before he curls it, I would be horrified if my fine straight hair was cut like this.
I don't like my hair curled. It looks fly away.
I agree. I’m just not at all a fan of that look, even if I had time to break out a curling iron. Would have liked to see the cut with just a blow out.
Always loved this channel I can feel genuine he is

DaydreaminArtbyDeb me too. They never know what to do with my hair and just trim it. Like I’m not worth trying on. Well my hair isn’t.

Does this work for straight hair also?
After watching 50 vids on styling thinner hair this is something I plan to follow. Tyvm!

I agree. I don’t like to apply heat to my hair, so I’d love to see a cut for fine hair that is an easy wash, hair dry, and wear!
Wish you’d explain how you determined the length to keep on the side guide... I didn’t see you grab hair from the front section
Same i keep watching to see that transition and dont see in literally cutting right now, oh well I've been successful doing my own without a video so twill be what it is
