Great video! These are getting better every time. I would swap out the Freedom unlimited as a catch all for the Venture X in this set up. You get 2x on everything, increased point diversity, a ton of travel perks and an effective annual fee -$5.
Great video Dan. I like the "combination wallet" that features a good catch-all cashback card (2.62%), a 5% gas card, dining card, supermarkets (3.5-5%), and then a good quality travel card or two. It works. This is great. Thanks for sharing as usual.
Thanks so much Scott! Yeah you can definitely combine travel and cash back cards to create a great hybrid setup - for me my gas card as the Custom Cash at 5% is cash back right now
Great picks here Daniel! Love how you talked about specific characteristics of the reasons each Cards made your list and how you separated the Cards into Travel & Cash-Back setups, since spending/travel preferences differ from person to person.
I want to do a hybrid type set up so I can get free travel and a some savings through cash back. For me, I will rock: Discover It, Citi CC, C1 Savor One, C1 Venture X, and maybe the Bilt card if it fits my needs in the future.
A lot of people like the simplicity of cash back, but I think if you travel at all, the travel setup is the way to go hands down. Just makes financial sense.
Yeah I think most people will travel at least once per year if not once every 2 years at a minimum so a travel setup is better at saving money for either flights or hotels in some way. I agree that travel is the way to go over cash back for the greater upside value - plus it's really fun finding good redemptions so it's also a hobby for me haha

@@EthanPatrick_CreditCards right now I’m asking myself if it’s better to use the 1.5% cash back chase freedom or the 2% cash back from citi double cash card. @@EthanPatrick_CreditCards ha, I just finished watching the video and he explains that the chase card is better. Yea, I’m gonna have to start using that card instead over the citi card.
@@aaronqueen55 I’d go with the Chase 1.5% back like Daniel said. It’s good for multiple reasons, like 5/24 and also having a small amount of many currencies can be a lot less useful than focusing on one points currency. The freedom unlimited is a great card with a solid sign up bonus (the double cash has no bonus) and the chase transfer partners are better than Citi’s. I think you’ll get a lot more value from it.
To me optimal cash back cards is yearly 4-5% no annual fee in the top 3 spending categories -- groceries, restaurant/fast food, and gas. That would be the AAA credit card for 5% groceries, US Bank Altitude Go at 4% for restaurant/fast food, and Citi Custom Cash at 5% gas.

Your channel is amazing man. Thanks for providing all of this information. Credit is such an important aspect of finances that no one really talked enough about to me growing up.
I always love getting to see how people build out setups! For me it a seems like the SavorOne is a bit redundant as a “food card” in this cash back setup since the Freedom Flex and the Amex Blue Cash Everyday each cover restaurants and dining respectively. Might be useful if one were spending a lot on entertainment (or Uber for the 10x back), but as a “food card” it’s maybe not really needed? It’s a great no-annual-fee alternative to the Gold Card in the travel-centric setup though IF one were inclined to get the VX instead of the Platinum. And if one went that route then that covers the catch-all, and the Freedom Unlimited could make way for the Bilt card in the travel setup. Oh, so many options! 😂

Ironically I am new to credit cards and was already eyeballing all the cards on the cash back side that he mentioned, but I thought that the us bank altitude go card would be better for the food and dining card since it has no annual fee and gives 4% back on dinning and fast food too
Daniel, I have a question. I have a Gold card and was just offered to upgrade to a platinum with 100k points bonus after I meet the minimum 6 month spend. If I upgrade and get the 100k points, will I lose those points if I downgrade back to the gold in a year?
Saw a similar cash back setup, but they used the freedom cards instead of the Discover and Double Cash. I assume the switch was for the sign up bonuses as the Discover and DC don't have one. Solid setup since each card can be leveraged in multiple places. Bet you could switch it up every quarter and have a different combo for a couple years.
So I currently have the Freedom Flex, Sapphire Preferred, Prime Rewards, and Apple Card. I really want the Amex Gold now, but I wonder if that will overlap with the earnings of my current cards
@Daniel do you recommend applying for a new credit card while having a high utilization? I’m in the process of paying off all my debt. I know a new credit card will expand my limit which means my utilization will go down. Do you recommend for me to keep lowering my balances before I apply for the new card?
You know I don’t know what anyone is talking about with the sound effects, I can barely hear them haha. My videos have way more sound effects, now I’m realizing I should cut back tremendously now. Very thorough look at these cards as well, very nice Daniel!
If you were to recommend a 2 card setup for the average Joe to apply for and hold forever for a bit of both cash back and travel points, what would you recommend?
I sort of end up doing this, though I don’t think it’s for everyone. I do most of my grocery shopping at Whole Foods (make fun of me if you must) and do most of my “regular” shopping on Amazon. Amazon card gets me 5% back at both of those places. Almost everything else ends up on the world of Hyatt card so I can spend 15k for the free night certificate. Only thing I would add is the Bilt card to give you the super power of paying rent with a CC and get points (that I can transfer to Hyatt). A more common man version of this would be the Venture X and Savor cards from capital one. Could see that being a lot more useful to those outside my spending habits.
My most common used cards right now... (OG 2014) Chase Freedom for Quarterly 5% --- CSP for intro bonus/travel/streaming/dining -- Amex Gold for intro bonus/ Dining/groceries -- CapitalOne Venture X for intro Bonus/primary travel card/catch all for 2x ---- Apple Digital Card for 3% back at apple vendors, using as gas card at Exxon/Mobil.... My approach was I wanted to hit the Intro bonus/travel options and build credit resume with Chase/AMEX/C1... so I have a lot of flexibility/diversity to transfer to tons of partners.
Something I’ve noticed looking through these cards and trying to build my own credit set up is that a lot of them exclude Walmart and warehouse stores, which is a big chunk of my grocery spending. Does anyone have any recommendations to maximize the amount of rewards for this?
I will ask this here because I couldn't, for the life of me, find out online or in other videos. I'm slowly getting my card setup but is it worth it to put a charge on my older cards every month to get more on time monthly payments? Or should I just put one every 6 months or so to just keep it open and use more money on my better cards?
Closing out a card can impact your credit history but it probably wouldn’t hurt to keep making small on time payments. Probably won’t find an answer on the internet but it is more personal choice.
If you have 100% on time payments, then the number of new payments added does not matter much. If you missed a payment in the last seven years, then every on time payment you add to your history is going to help the percentage for on time payments go up.
Hey Daniel for a hotel card under $100 (disregard 5/24 or amex rules 760 credit score) which would be your choice. Personally im between world of Hyatt or IHG premier. Id love your opinion on which to get.
If you want a really cool redemption option for IHG, crowne plaza in Rome can be booked 8 nights for 175,000 points, which is basically what you’ll get by finishing the sign up bonus right now!
Hey Daniel, quick question, you put the citi custom cash in the travel setup but no premier, would that just mean you recommend jjst talking that cash back on the 5% instead of points?
Just watched and wanted your opinion, if you are wanting to travel in the next year and your credit score is in the mid 700 (740 ish) would you recommend going for the chase sapphire first or try to go chase unlimited and work your way into the sapphire 6 months later to be safer?
how can you apply for your cards if they are not approving you specially for starters or new to america which card you recommend first,we are foreign just arrived in this place.
Great video, loved the content! thank you. Was looking forward to a un-pixelated version of the 0:33 image with all cards in one place but didn't get it. Also, the background music sounds like a haunting melody, specially on 1.5x speed; I actually paused the video a couple times to confirm it's coming from the video.
Thank you very much Daniel! Love your videos, and I find them very helpful! So much so that I got myself into the Chase Trifecta with the CSP, CFF, and CFU. Love the set up and the fact that both Chase Freedom Flex came with a 1 year 5x back on gas and Chase Freedom Unlimited 5x on grocery for the first year. My set up is currently perfect, but I can't help but think once these 2 categories go away... I was curious if you could give me your thoughts on the Triple AAA Daily advantage card? Or even better if you could do a video review! The reason I bring this card up is that it would fit the gaps perfectly for complimenting where the Chase Trifecta lacks. First off it's a Visa card and can be used at Costco getting back 3%! 5% back at normal grocery stores, and 3% back on gas or EV. I'm leaning towards this vs. having to get both the Savor One and the Citi Custom Cash to cover all of my bases. I know this is a nuanced question, but I appreciate any insight as this Triple AAA card is rarely talked about on RUclips, but has powerful earning potential.
I'm at a 700, asked capital one to increase my 300 limit on my quicksilver and they said no... a week later I applied for the capital one venture card... gave me a 7k limit. Make it make sense. 😆
I'm somebody that can't decide if they should put all their efforts into the cash back route or do a little of both so I can travel one day and have it be cheaper?
Is there a strategy you would suggest to be able to apply to a few of these credit cards while minimizing the number of hard inquiries applied? I was hoping to apply for the CFU, Bilt, and Amazon card with a FICO score of 786 and I already have three credit cards (Wells Fargo Platinum, Discover It, Apple)
For the Bilt card, if I am trying to pay my rent with that card while living overseas(currently active duty) will I still get the same benefits as I was in the states living in?
Had the citi premier card for the welcome bonus, then downgraded to citi's reward+ after a year. That makes my citi points 10% more valuable in the portal, which brings my custom cash to 5.5x points on purchases in the category of my choice (gas rn). Thought this was a fun hack.
Shouldn't the Chase prime card be on the travel side? Since it's a Chase card, you can also combine the prime card points with the other Chase cards, which makes the Sapphire Preferred 25% boost even more powerful.
Question, so I recently got my freedom flex 2 and a half months ago. Last week I got the freedom unlimited. Now how long should I wait until applying for the Sapphire Preferred? Reference - I have a credit score of around 694
Not apply until pre approval which you should’ve got by now. I got it but didn’t apply because of annual cost. Maybe later when I want to get the bonus
Travel rewards require way too much time to configure maximization. Not to mention, it limits your flight options when trying to book flights with rewards. I value my time too much. I'll stick with team cashback.
Great vid, but I'm surprised to not see the Bilt card, given that rent is generally people's biggest expense (if they rent) and Bilt has great benefits.
Hey Matt, I included the Bilt card as a bonus at the end! The problem is that I only have 5 cards to work with in each setup for this video and not everyone rents. But if you do rent like me then I think it’s a great card! One of my new favorites that I have as well 👍
I get the cash back side but no idea why the travel cards are all over the place with nearly every one being part of a different reward network. You're simply going to end up with a a few thousand points in every pot not able to really utilize them with one of the annual fee cards to best utilize the points usage.
I'm debating if i should complete the Chase trifecta (need CFU and CFF) and Ven X (3 new cards in total) or a setup like VenX and CFF is enough in itself? I already have CSP, Amex Gold and Amex Blue Everyday
All great cards so it all depends on what categories you're looking to get those cards for and whether you prefer to earn points for travel or just cash back (or both)
Hi Daniel, thanks for responding. The intent is to use it for travel. VenX does give 2x on everything so does it make sense to get CFU to complete the trifecta?
I have the Chase Freedom Student, do I get a signup bonus if I upgrade it to the regular Freedom Unlimited or Flex, Sapphire? I want to upgrade or change product when I get out of school and not close the account.
You would not get a sign up bonus if you upgrade to any of those cards - only if you open a new card account with one of those options. So typically what people do is they keep the Freedom Student card open as a separate account that continues to age for no annual fee
Thank you for clarifying and HUGE THANKS for making these vids!!! As a college student wanting to get a good financial foundation, your content made me feel better about making important decisions to help my future self! Debating on whether to get the CF Flex or Citi CC in June
Daniel, I’ve been waiting to get a chase card for years. I finally got my credit score under 524 but chase still won’t approve!? How low do I need to get it?
That can be true depending on the card and other benefits/features. Sometimes things like credits and other things can help to justify the fee - but spending more also helps with the higher multipliers

Very thorough look at these cards as well, very nice Daniel!
i feel like you made this really easy and really complicated at the same time
If you were to recommend a 2 card setup for the average Joe to apply for and hold forever for a bit of both cash back and travel points, what would you recommend?
What do you think of the WF active card vs the Citi double cash card?
How about the US bank cash+ vs the Citi custom cash?
is there anything stopping me from getting multiple citi custom cash cards, for example one for groceries and one for gas?
What’s up with the ending bro? Did your editor forget to add the ending? Or is an abrupt closing the new norm?
Hey Daniel, quick question, you put the citi custom cash in the travel setup but no premier, would that just mean you recommend jjst talking that cash back on the 5% instead of points?
Thank you for this video
Do you recommend the Apple Card now that they're allowing you to put your earnings into a high yield Apple savings account?
The AAA cards from Comenity Bank seem like solid cards. Adam from ProudMoney did a video on them. ruclips.net/video/Q0UXwz_UjtE/видео.html
very good video!!!
Thank you so much for watching, glad you liked it!
Can you apply from these from the UK?
I'm at a 700, asked capital one to increase my 300 limit on my quicksilver and they said no... a week later I applied for the capital one venture card... gave me a 7k limit. Make it make sense. 😆
What about the Wells Fargo Autograph? I've been considering between that card and capital one savor.
I feel like 2x rewards from Wells Fargo would be better than citi double cash just because of the $200 sign up bonus
Can you talk more about the BILT?
Don’t sleep on Wells Fargo cash back card 2%
I'm somebody that can't decide if they should put all their efforts into the cash back route or do a little of both so I can travel one day and have it be cheaper?
I don’t see the US Bank Altitude GO. Being brought up as alternate to the Amex Gold card.
Zero annual fee with the same 4X point.
Is there a way to by pass the income requirement for the sapphire preferred card or u have to have a high income in order to get it
Is there a strategy you would suggest to be able to apply to a few of these credit cards while minimizing the number of hard inquiries applied? I was hoping to apply for the CFU, Bilt, and Amazon card with a FICO score of 786 and I already have three credit cards (Wells Fargo Platinum, Discover It, Apple)
Apply for them at the same time. You will get dinged but all of them will fall off your credit after 6 months instead of spreading it out.
What software do you use to edit?
For the Bilt card, if I am trying to pay my rent with that card while living overseas(currently active duty) will I still get the same benefits as I was in the states living in?
Citi custom cash card. I believe is the best card out there because the 5% cashback on whatever category you pick.
Such a great card!
Can you be aproved the capital one savor one student with no credit history (looking to get it for my first card)?
Why are not all the cards mentioned in the video not in the description with a link?
With the rotating category cards, do you choose your category or does it rotate based on the card issuers schedule?
It changes based on the card issuers schedule - they usually announce the new categories a couple of weeks before the start of a new quarter
THANKS!
Had the citi premier card for the welcome bonus, then downgraded to citi's reward+ after a year. That makes my citi points 10% more valuable in the portal, which brings my custom cash to 5.5x points on purchases in the category of my choice (gas rn). Thought this was a fun hack.
My wealth advisor roasted me for only having 1 CC, still indecisive on what other CC I should open but this helps haha
Shouldn't the Chase prime card be on the travel side? Since it's a Chase card, you can also combine the prime card points with the other Chase cards, which makes the Sapphire Preferred 25% boost even more powerful.
Ok, I just found out that prime points can't be transferred to the other Chase cards.
So I like the travel setup. Just got the Chase Sapphire with the 80,000 points. What is your main spend for the chase preferred?
Also since I have 3 Chase cards can I pool all the rewards together?
The savior is just get the us bank card 5 cash back restaurants and other categories like gym
Doesn’t it bother you to have to multiple cards with multiple ecosystems?
One of my new favorites that I have as well 👍
@@Daniel_Braun Yeah - I think it will be a great one for our kid, who just finished their PhD
I get the cash back side but no idea why the travel cards are all over the place with nearly every one being part of a different reward network. You're simply going to end up with a a few thousand points in every pot not able to really utilize them with one of the annual fee cards to best utilize the points usage.
Can I have travel credit cards and use them in Europe
Just in the last six months I was able to raise my score an avg. 40+ pts across my vgpt3.0’s and 50+ pts across my Fico8’s. Before, I just had two installments of fafsa loans sitting there, but now, I have a D-it cb (since Aug 22), plus that Chase FS (since Dec 22). I meant to wait the recc. 6mos, but something happened and it ended up actually applying when I was just trying to see what my limit would be haha. Debating on whether to get the CF Flex or Citi CC in June
Daniel,
I’ve been waiting to get a chase card for years. I finally got my credit score under 524 but chase still won’t approve!? How low do I need to get it?
don’t you mean trying to raise your score? a low score will not get you access to many cards. a score in the 700s/800s is better
Well that's the problem. You're trying to lower the score when you should be raising it. Higher score is better.
Fantastic video Daniel!
The one thing no one ever talks about is you need to spend a certain amount of money for annual fee credit cards to be worth it.
That can be true depending on the card and other benefits/features. Sometimes things like credits and other things can help to justify the fee - but spending more also helps with the higher multipliers
great video! are you still making a 2 player mode with credit cards? i know you mentioned it a couple of videos' ago. i want to see the strategy for me and my wife.
I came here because the thumbnail said $400 a month, was trying to see how that was being done. Sounds like a lot of spin to get $400 back a month
Daniel why not the double cash card instead of custom card ?
Hey Anthony, I have them both here in this video! The Citi Double Cash is as the end as a catch all card earning 2% on everything
@@Daniel_Braun Good job on the break down Daniel that why I kick it with you . Lke how you incorporated Amex with other then just chase C1 & Citi
They all have their job s to do
Waiting to see citi new card
Spencer Daniel did do a great job the way he broke it down in match chase with Amex like that thumbs up 👍🏿 to you
Daniel
Spencer wait on new content
WF active cash and autograph should be there as 5th option
Is Costco considered a grocery store even though you can buy everything there?
No. For credit card categories Costco, Wal-Mart, and Target are almost never considered grocery stores.
