I’m set up with the Chase Trifecta(preferred) and the Venture X. I plan to get the Savor next year and work with my wife to get her some of the same cards to get that player 2 strategy going. Will use UR points and C1 points to cover hotel and flight for Portugal trip next year. Daniel, thank you for guiding us throughout this journey the last few years.
@@Adiscretefirm you could simply make the 300 dollar booking on one premium card instead of two. Outside of the signup bonus you're divvying up your points ecosystem instead of accumulating more so you can redeem.
I would tend to agree. I think you could justify pair a premium with a mid tier such Venture X with Sapphire Preferred but a Reserve would be too much imo
If you fly often (5+ roundtrip flights a year), have a Chase lounge in your home airport, the reserve would be a no brainer and maybe the venture x for additional value with $300 annual travel credit and the annual 10k anniversary miles credit. But if you have a C1 lounge in your home airport, I don’t think it would be all that necessary to get the reserve. The priority pass membership that comes with the VX also comes with an annual 1-time pass for any Chase lounge as well. I currently have VX, Bilt, Savor, and a Chase Freedom Unlimited (a downgraded Sapphire Preferred) in my everyday lineup. I’m pretty satisfied with my setup at the moment but am considering product changing my freedom unlimited for the flex to take advantage of the rotating 5x multiplier. I also may add my first hotel or airline cc to my setup next year.
Almost entirely agree. The only swap I’ve made is to have to Robinhood Gold 3% cash back on all non category spend. I continue to be surprised how much the RH card gets ignored. I’ve loved it!
Dont get me wrong, rhg 3% is good however there is no way to offset the $50 annual fee that comes with it. (You gotta hold a gold membership in order to keep the card active) If you spend over $5000 on miscellaneous/year, it makes sense to pay the $50, for people who don’t, they’re better off with a 2% no af card
Yeah, I was using RH prior to the cc announcement. I was also justifying the gold membership prior to the cc announcement. The card, for me, was a very nice addition to membership benefits. In fact, I put a ton of spend on this now since it’s so so simple. Player two also loves the simplicity. Still use other cc’s but the RH is a big part these days.
If you go with AMEX, I think the blue cash everyday card with $0 annual fee is pretty solid. It doesn't have the 5% cash back period like Chase, but it does have 3% on gas, grocery and restaurant. Pretty solid if paired with the AMEX gold. Can you do a video on that card as well to compare with the Chase counterparts?
i wouldn't recommend CSR unless if your someone who travels extensively every year at least 5 times per year. i would go with the venture x, that is almost the same with the reserve only at lower annual fee.
Appreciate all the work you do comparing; although feels for average user there's too many premium yearly subscription cards in this list. "Theoretically" you could manage/justify the cost, but feel reality would tell different value story once the dust settles. Great video Daniel, really thinking about opening a CSR or CSP. Just saw you said tolls are also travel which makes it even better. Always appreciate your videos! Much love from China!!!!

I do personally like the combination of the VX and Platinum better as the Platinum offers things like Hilton Gold (food and beverage credit) and Marriott Gold not found on the CSR.
I love this video concept! I have a Chase Freedom (got it before they branded to Freedom Flex), CSP (new), and Amex Green. I had an Amex Platinum but downgraded because I wasn’t traveling enough to see the benefits really. I would have downgraded to Gold but I don’t need it with the new CSP I just got (in my opinion). I’m wondering if I should eventually close my Amex one day but I do love their customer service.
Drop the reserve, get the preferred and you still have the chase duo. Drop the venture x and add the platinum for premium luxury travel. Savior over Amex gold. Plus it would be $790 annual fee for better perks. You spend on chase and capital one, get cash back for trips or use the chase travel portal to transfer out and still have the platinums perks.

Let's start with the USBAR, which is hard to overlook for simplicity and the best catch-all for earning power. It breaks down from here because you need more data from the user - 6 blanket cards is not optimized. Are we building a travel setup or cashback setup or one that can switch hit like Citi and Chase? There are too many symbiotic nuances here. My 6 cards living in a Delta Hub: USBAR, Delta Reserve, Gold, Chase CSP, CFF, CIC. I'm going 2 Amex for Delta and 3 Chase for Hyatt and sending in USBAR to clean up any other travel needs such as rental cars.
Quick question looking into getting the freedom unlimited card is the 250$ sign up bonus a good bonus or should I wait for a better deal to come I Hurd they have done double cash back in the past
Question. I currently only have one credit card a discover it that I always pay in full along with my car payment, and credit around 800. But I think I need to step up and get a dining/grocery card, a gas card and eventually rent and dining card. How spread out should I be in applying for these? Or is there any downfall?
Preferred wouldn’t get used at all in this setup other than to transfer points because the spending multipliers aren’t great and no other real benefits. The Sapphire Reserve at least has better 3x travel multiplier plus lounge access and other benefits But I also left the option open to downgrade to the Preferred, as I mentioned in the video because some people might want that card. There’s always options so this is obviously just one setup to approach this video concept 👍
Question for anyone, when travel hacking and taking advantage of bonus sign ups…should I cancel or downgrade to a card with no annual fee once I’ve gotten the sign up bonus?
Ive been watching your Citi Custom Cash videos, and doing all the research. I was about 90% to signing up to solely use it for gas, come to find out that this card doesnt apply to Costco gas and shopping. Am I wrong?

After some time, I’ll figure out if I want to close some of my capital one cards or just get the Venture X.
Correct me if I'm wrong but in regards to the Amex Gold calculation to break even, wouldn't it be $1500 spend on food and dining given the 4x multiplier?
The breakeven is calculated by looking at the 1x more earned on the gold vs the savor (4x vs 3x) - so you only multiply the $6,000 spend x 1x x 1 CPP to get $60 is that example
Nope. I’m always happy to have a conversation about this stuff if you ask me about it, but this is just never true. Yes I have affiliate links for some, but not all cards. Links are also in some videos, but not all. That represents one way that people can choose to help support the channel - or they can use links anywhere else. Totally optional, I want people to get the best deals (see any recent “Best Bonues” video of mine). I also encourage people to use their own referral links, especially in a 2 player setup, because a lot of times that makes more sense. But my policy has always been to make videos that I think people wanna watch above all else. Then I’ll put affiliate links that anyone can choose to use where it makes sense. Simple as that. Again happy to have a conversation so feel free to email or DM me anytime 👍
If that works for you then great! Not a bad 5 card setup if the credits on the gold and platinum work for you. Lots of ways to go about it, so this video is just what I would personally do
The only way to truly quit the game is to get out of debt, save 3-6 months of expenses at 3-4%, invest, be generous, keep 1-2 credit cards and only use it for things like renting a car. 🎉

The breakeven is calculated by looking at the 1x more earned on the gold vs the savor (4x vs 3x) - so you only multiply the $6,000 spend x 1x x 1 CPP to get $60 is that example
@@Daniel_Braun Perfect. Thanks for that explanation. I'll take the L on that one. But the W for getting a reply from you!
Haha no Ls, just good questions! Happy to help - thanks for watching 👍

If you're not playing the game, then you're paying for others who are.
Well said.
These are just high affiliate payment cards. That's why he's shilling them.
Wrong horrible video. Amex trifecta is ALL you need plus Hyatt and Bilt card. Delete this video immediately.
If that works for you then great! Not a bad 5 card setup if the credits on the gold and platinum work for you. Lots of ways to go about it, so this video is just what I would personally do
Only problem with this setup is that many merchants (online and in person) do not accept AmEx. Which is unfortunate because I love AmEx
The only way to truly quit the game is to get out of debt, save 3-6 months of expenses at 3-4%, invest, be generous, keep 1-2 credit cards and only use it for things like renting a car. 🎉
No you’re just losing the credit card game if you’re not using them. You can do all of what you said while still using credit cards for every purchase lmao.
