Nice recommendations Spencer! I use the below five cards to maximize my rewards which includes one workhorse, three speciality, and one wildcard: 1. US Bank Altitude Reserve for mobile wallet and travel 2. US Bank Cash + for utilities and streaming services 3. Bilt for rent 4. Citi Custom Cash for restaurants 5. Chase Freedom Flex for rotating categories
I’m really new to the credit card game. I bank with Chase and I’m looking to get the Chase trifecta cards. This was a really helpful video. Thanks! Side note: I just joined your page as a new sub and am looking forward to future content
It depends on your overall strategy! A lot of people like to pair the Freedom Unlimited with the Sapphire Preferred once they’re ready to use their points for travel, so you could consider that possibly!
Thank you man! I'd definitely analyze all your options and see what setup works best for you, but hopefully some of these options give you a good place to start!
I only use 3 credit cards; Citi Strata Premier=groceries and restaurants. Citi Custom Cash=dedicated gas card. Citi Double Cash=my catch-all cards. This simple setup allows me to be either team travel or team cashback, whatever the flavor of the month is.
That's a brilliant setup for flexibility between the two teams. Not only that CSP can pickup gas at 3x and redeploy Custom for another category makes sense for a bit. I think that's one of Citi's most underrated perks.
The Citi Trifecta is one of my favorite setups! You can’t argue with how good the multipliers are. If I was someone just sticking with 3 cards and not adding multiple per year for the welcome offers, I’d strongly consider that setup.
I have been wanting the AMEX travel trio for like forever and will finally be getting it soon! Also just subscribed and entered your giveaway. Congrats on 25K I have seen your videos before but just decided to sub since you always produce great content.
That's awesome Ash! As long as you've done the math and know that the Amex trifecta will produce positive value for you naturally, it's an awesome setup. I truly appreciate your support too btw! That means a lot. Best of luck in the giveaway!
@ Yea I am getting the green card first to get the sign up bonus and I am gonna hold onto that for a bit and start that trifecta when I get enough of a reason to travel later down the road. Gonna get the chase trifecta as well because you can’t go wrong with it. And then I’m still trying to get the bilt card. Just got approved for the Amazon credit card through chase so we will see if that was a good idea later I guess. But it is a start into getting chase cards.
Ironically the last type of cards you mention, wild card cards are the cards that most people probably start or restart their journey at. Rotating quarterly cards like the discover it or chase FF are great entry cards. Especially the discover it since they match all your rewards on the card after the first year. After that it probably isn't worth getting it.
You’re not wrong! I could’ve touched on the order in which to get these cards, but that’s more of a personal choice than anything I guess. That Discover it welcome offer is huge for beginners though, I agree with you there! Thanks for watching and commenting as always brotha.
@phucmapvlog if you have united cards, check if you were given targeted offers. Right now, untill end of the year, they added x3 miles for wholesale clubs and dinning to my united card. A side wholesale clubs issue,, chase will acknowledge wholesale club fuel purchased as a gas catogory multiplier. AMEX is treating Sam's gas as uncategorized connected to the wholesale club.
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial When I'm in the US, I'm always at Wal-Mart (basically next door). Do you know of any cards off-hand that do consider Wal-Mart groceries?
@@phucmapvlog There are a good amount of cashback options like the US Bank Shopper Rewards, BofA Customized Cash, AAA Daily Advantage, Amex Blue Cash Everyday w/ Walmart Pay, etc. but if you're looking for a good travel card, it's a bit trickier. Honestly, using a 2x miles card is probably the best way to go as long as you can redeem those points for more value than a cashback card would give you % wise. Using workarounds like Walmart Pay seem to be the best approach to give you more optionality, so I'd look into that.
My man, thanks for this video. The category approach v. just an absolute/stack ranked tiering system is super helpful. Appreciate it!
Of course man! I’m really glad you appreciated the route I took with this one. As for your setup, it looks to me like you have the bulk of everything covered! The only place I’d consider bringing things in would be the Bilt cars if you rent, or a specialty card similar to the Citi Custom Cash to cover you at 5% on any pesky earning categories. Other than that, it could be time to start adding hotel/airline cards that fit your goals or add cards for welcome offers alone if that’s the route you choose to take. I like how your core setup is looking though! Thanks for watching and commenting on this one Sean!
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial Thank you, brother! Really appreciate this, and all of your videos. Keep it up and super grateful for the reply and the helpful analysis.
Love your channel as a semi newbie to Credit Cards! I love to see it! That's a really solid cashback centered setup for sure. I'm really glad you like MaxRewards as well! They've served my needs really well over the years.
Why not also have the Savor card in the workhorse catagory for cashback? It honestly hits every major catagory outside of gas. And for Gas you could just use the AMEX Blue Cash Everyday for that or even mix it in for grocery spend.
I separated the travel and cashback options by whether or not the points earned on the card can later be used with transfer partners or not. It can be a great cashback card too, but since you have the ability to use the points for more value, I slotted it in the travel category.
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial that makes sense. Personally I use it for groceries, dining, streaming and entertainment because the cashback could be used for either and I feel like it’s good for a hybrid setup. Even though I may have too many cards now to get a Venture card ha ha (I have 11 right now)

That’s a really solid move! Locking in multiple Chase card welcome offers is a great idea and the ability to do so is one of the big reasons I like Chase so much.
Im approaching my end game. Next month i will finish a business sub and go under 5/24. 1 or 2 possibilities in late spring or early summer. So next 5 or 6 months im going to carry core.. Player #2 is doing the freedom flex groceries and gas 12k sub. But I will have Amex Hilton Surpass. Dinning at Hilton Dinning locations i get a x2 bonus for x8 earning on dinning. Before you down the hilton, high end properties with 5th night free points are worth 1 cent or more and may see how i do with the 15K to earn a FNC. Have the trifecta and Inks but everyday chase card in the wallet will be the unlimited. The csr and flex will be used with catogory dependent spend. I will probably have a third card that either fits planned catogory use or i will be alternating to keep it active. I pretty much have small pre scheduled spend on most cards . I included an option from each of the main lenders, and while it’s not the best option for someone late game, I think it’s a perfectly good place to start before you consider upgrading to something more premium. It’s always case dependent of course.
I have the Bilt card and am looking into either capital one duo or chase tri. Was leaning towards chase due to the travel partners meshing with Bilt better but now I may reevaluate after this video
Which route you go is completely up to you! I personally started with the Chase route and am really glad I did. Then again, Cap1 can be harder to get approved for down the line, so starting with them isn't a bad idea either.
I know it’s about a month until 2025 but cmon Spencer I wish you would’ve named the video 2024 instead because you’re recapping the ultimate credit cards of the year. We don’t know yet what cards will be good or bad next year.

The information is pertinent no matter what year you watch the video. For a cashback user, it's a great card as I mentioned! However, it can be easily beaten by most travel cards if you're someone who prefers to earn in those currencies.
I had this Capital one savor one card last 03/24. It was my 2nd card at the time and didn't know very much about it. It didn't have any welcome offer/sign up bonus at the time (or I just wasn't paying attention) but I know it doesn't have any SUB. Now they offer life a 0% APR and $250 back on $500 spent within 3 mos. I was thinking if there's a way I can get that offer? Like close this account and try to apply for a new Capital one Savor just to get the SUB? Anyone here had done it? Any advise is much appreciated!
Unfortunately Capital One will do that frequently where they’ll offer you the card you want but with no welcome offer (Savor Rewards vs. Savor Rewards for Good Credit) and if you don’t read the terms closely you’ll get stuck without one. To get a welcome offer on the same card you’ve already applied for with them, you generally have to wait 48 months, so you wouldn’t be eligible for quite some time. You could always go for different cards in the meantime though!
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial The pre-approval tool of cap1 keeps declining me and saying "Based on your application information, there is a currently pending or recently processed application with Capital One" I applied last 10/08/24 for the Venture card, but they declined it but counter-offered with their VentureOne and I mistakenly refused.
