My issue with the Platinum is how much you need to “work” to get the benefits to justify the fee. For that matter, I feel the same about rotating categories cards, although typically those cards do not have fees. We’re planning to cancel the Amex cards and go back to Chase, probably the Sapphire Reserve - it’s just easier to get the value back without much work/thought.

It’s true, but as everything in the credit card game, you do a lot of research and excel sheet tables for weeks, but hardly do any more work after. I also was hesitant with the amex platinum, now I literally think it’s the best credit card ever and get around $1500 of value every year. Just justify the first $700 - however you wanna value the benefits. For example, I value Walmart plus as $100. The first $700 I just first value stuff that is absolutely important for me and I was going to spend it anyways. After, I value the rest of the credits because, for me, now I’m getting free stuff
I love the Chase trifecta ever since you influenced me to go for it! I look forward to traveling more in the future with the Chase points combining on the CSP! Btw, I live in Harrisburg, PA so love the PA connection.
Hey Daniel, great video! You made some good points however, I think the point that needs to be stressed about the portal you mentioned for AMEX is that it actually can be a good deal, especially if that is one of the only ways you have to actually use your points for travel. I live in the Midwest Minnesota, and I don’t fly internationally. However, I do fly domestically fairly often, and I have yet to be able to find any transfer partners on any dates that I am flying in and out of MSP. so the portal is actually become quite a good option for me so I can actually use my points and not have to come out of pocket for it. Anyway, I just bring this up because I’ve noticed a lot of credit card RUclipsrs I have watched just make the natural assumption that you can get an epic deal as long as you transfer over to partners. However, just as in my case that has not been an option thus far! Anyway, I really enjoyed the video. Keep up the great work.
The fact that chase doesn’t have an in store grocery multiplier is criminal. One day I’m hoping they implement this. Even a 2x or 3x would be good enough
Yeah I have the BCP for that exact reason. I max the $6k 6% every year and use it for 6% on subscriptions and if the freedom flex gets a grocery category at some point during the year I’ll use that to get chase points. I’d love if the freedom flex got even 2% back on groceries. I’m considering downgrading my BCP and opening an Amex gold since the grocery bonus is up to $25k at 4%.
I have the chase trifecta (CSP. CFF, CIU) & working on my AmEx fecta. Currently have the Green & Gold only. Will eventually add the BBP. I prefer this setup. Its only $495 total AF. Thats less than the AF of the CSR! Furthermore, i already used the clear credit on the green card & the hotel credit on the CSP. I can also easily use the $120 dining credit on the Gold. So my E-AF is only $175 😎
Thank you Daniel! Been watching for about a year and always enjoy your style on explaining everything and answering questions - you're always very balanced and that's much appreciated. Thanks for all the time you put into the videos. Also enjoy the "no script" approach - keep them coming.
Thank you, Daniel. Very, very helpful. Your pace of delivering information allows me time to digest the info. I like the delivery far better than the super fast speech pattern on many of your other videos. Much of your information is technical, and the conversational style is much more natural and helpful, to me at least. 😊
that's one of the main things i like about the capital one duo you get 3x or 4x on groceries depending on which savor card you have but i have heard that if you're grocery store has an app and you are able to pay with that app it counts as online groceries
I've been looking at the Capital One Venture X card lately and wondering if you've looked into that one or would make a video on that card. It seems so appealing having a $300 annual travel credit, $100 PreCheck or Global Entry application credit, 10,000 bonus points annually, 10X hotels, and 2X on other purchases. Just seems like way to good of a card to be true that could be used for everything and that pays for itself and then some. Are Capital One rewards points valuable compared to Amex or Chase UR points, maybe that's why it seems like too good if their points don't cover as much as the others do. Thanks and keep up the great educating content!
Thank you so much for your super informative, helpful, and honest videos. We are so excited to get started on using credit cards strategically, wish we had started sooner. Also I feel like I should add a little advice because you have helped us so much…. Over $2,000 in rent is very high, have you ever considered purchasing a home and if it is not realistic where you live, have you considered moving? We moved away from CA for the same reason (among others) and now own a nice house and pay less on mortgage than we did on rent, and we’re building equity, and we’re able to travel more. Just a thought, something to consider:)
I love Emirates! I just flew them from Milan to NY for 87K and 140 dollars. I’m due to fly EWR to ATH around trip on First class, which I got for 189K and 240 dollars, I was able to get my ewr-Ath for 87K and the ATH-EWR for 102k (after the devaluation)
Yeah man this is good. Scripted videos are good, but just like that Creator Conversation you did with Spencer, just hearing kind of your thoughts for yourself is nice.
#TeamRoseGold very nice stripped back video Daniel. I’m still holding off on the Amex Platinum. It’s the only card I need to complete my Amex trifecta, but! That annual fee 🥴🥴. I know I’ll have to bite the bullet at some point for my channel though.
Haha I'm still #TeamRegularGold but I don't think I'll ever convince you! Yeah that Platinum card annual fee is rough, but the credits have been easily used lately so I'm still fine paying the $695. Will be interested to see if you get it soon!
Last time I checked, amex doesn’t rollover the monthly credits for things like the $10 Uber eats or Lyft, which was a con for me cuz not only would I have to force myself to use them every month, but $10 probably won’t even cover the entire price of what I purchase.
I’m at a crossroads. I have the unlimited and the flex ready for the sapphire but I don’t want an annual fee card just yet. But if I get another card like the Citi custom cash then I will hit the chase 5/24 rule and the sapphire will have to wait years. Should I just complete the trifecta or start saving big bucks with the Citi custom cash card?
Daniel, great format to the video. I understand the use of the Citi Custom Cash for 5x gas, but what do you do with your Citi points since you are primarily in the Chase and AMEX eco systems?
thanks for all your videos: Can I ask a quick question that I can't find a direct answer: theoretically speaking, could I transfer points from chase to say British Avios, and then transfer those british avios to qatar avios? I know you said in other videos that Chase can transfer to British Airways and separately British Avios can transfer to Qatar, but I didn't know if there there restrictions on "transferred points" that you HAVE to use them on where-ever you transfer them to or if you are free to transfer those points again. i want to transfer my Chase UR to British Airways, combine with my British airway CC sign up bonus points and then transfer to Qatar Avios to use all those to buy a business class seat with the combined points.
I have the chase freedom unlimited, amex BCP, and the capital one savor one. The BCP groceries bonus of 6% for $6000 a year = $360 i am able to max out with my partner, and justifies it's 95 annual fee. Savorone fills out some bonuses i wasnt getting 3% on, and the no foreign transaction fee is useful for travel. Flights on the chase freedom unlimited also gets 5% back, and are often cheaper than buying directly from the airline! The only categories i spend significantly on, that i dont get at least 3% on are rent and online shopping. The amex blue cash everyday is what im looking at next, or the Citibank Custom cash, which might become my geocery card if i can downgrade the BC 6:00 P to blue cash everyday
amex platinum states you can get a gold for no additional fee. Does that mean you can stack the uber credits for Gold and Platinum , i.r. $240 and $200 respectively
I appreciate the comparison, but I would like to see the initial spend requirements for each. That's the huge hurdle for me. I can do 4-6k in a quarter, but not times 2, and 15k is completely out of the question. So, for me, that's more important than the annual fee. In fact in my own decision making spreadsheet I would have a welcomebonus/initial spend factor to compare apples to apples.
Sorry about that! Got really busy around a long fourth of July holiday weekend - but I should be increasing my upload frequency for the rest of summer! Have another video almost complete already now
I got a huge 130k bonus on AmEx Business Gold. Wasn’t sure if it would have lasting value, but AmEx Business Gold is 4X on gas if it’s one of your two categories, so Business Gold is also 4X for restaurants and gas if those are your two highest categories.
Do the credits of AMEX towards digital or uber etc nigate the spend on the card towards the bonus? So if it is saving you $20, does that remove the amount of spend towards the bonus by the same amount? So you end up having to spend $120 MORE in that six months to cover what they basically gave you back as a credit?
Hey Daniel, how do you separate your spending across each trifecta? There’s some overlap between chase and amex, for example dining. The CFF and the CFU get 3x back on dining while the Amex gold gets 4x back, so do you switch off using those cards when dining out? In other words, what’s the best way to earn points while using both trifectas? Thank you!
Always comes down to your personal use cases! I always played the overlap depending on statement dates so that I could hold my money the longest lol or if I wanted to focus on one set of points vs the other (chase > amex)
@@TheBlinkisback09 thank you! That makes a lot of sense. I’m working on the chase trifecta right now but i do not have any Amex yet, so I wanted to be prepared once I eventually have them both. I think I’ll have the full chase trifecta and probably just the amex gold. Your reasoning makes sense and I’ll apply that to my situation. Thanks again!
@@michael_5140 glad to help! I'll add, don't even bother with gold if the transfer partners don't make sense for your uses. Try to get the biggest bonus you can, or if you have a corporate card from work there's a fee credit against the personal charge cards
My lineup is Amex gold ( food)- SP (transportation and streaming) - BILT (rent) -Amazon ( online shopping) Any recommendation as a fifth ? Looking for a card that is good for general purchases ( retail stores , services , ect)
I don’t understand fully though because the the Freedom Unlimited offers the Auto rental insurance as well. So if the CSP really just used for the bonus offer? I guess 2% on all other travel helps vs 1.5 on the unlimited but is it worth it after the first year getting the bonus
I have the Chase Flex and have a lot of spending in grocery and dining. Is it best to work on completing the chase trifecta to maximize points or get the amex gold. I know I will not have a use for the Amex Platinum, but I would utilize the cash back categories of the Gold.
Can you do other head to head trifecta videos? If Thanos wiped our chase and amex, how would you rank citi, usbank, and capital one trifectas? I'm not at the point where I can utilize enough amex perks to justify that trifecta, and was looking for a 2nd trifecta to play with next to my chase.
If i get the platinum amex can i down grade to amex gold and get welcome bonus of the gold or it will not give me the bonus if i do the platinum to gold down grade?
I’m 2/24 right now. Amex gold and Amex Gold delta. Thinking my journey could be like - I’m going to get the Amex gold, gold delta, chase business ink (I have chase business checking account) chase sapphire preferred , chase freedom flex. And then capital one venture x . If I get approved and then business platinum so might not get the X.
I’m 19 and I started off with the discover it student card at 18. My credit score is sitting at 765 and this month made a full year of me owning my first credit card. After looking at my highest spending category on my discover, I realized that the Amex Gold card would give me amazing value. @@philcalibur9710 thank you so much for responding back! I’ve been over thinking about the whole “temporary dip” with the credit score without realizing the benefits and perks that come with the card itself. I’ll be keeping my eye out for a referral that’s worth the hard inquire. The best one I’ve seen so far was 90,000 + $200 back on your statement.
So I always thought the chase 2 freedom cards were cash back cards. How does this work, do you receive points or cash back? Sorry if this is a bad question I am 20 and new to credit cards lol
That's a perfectly normal question because Chase advertises these cards on their website as earning cash back. But really you are earning points that can be converted to cash back where basically 1x points = 1% cash back, 2x points = 2% cash back, etc. But the better value is to combine the points earned with the Freedom cards and move that over to a Sapphire Preferred card which has transfer partners with airlines and hotels!
@@Daniel_Braun ohhh ok thank you so much. I kind of thought that it maybe worked like that. I am still in college but I really want to be able to travel as I start my career. I have a student card at the moment but definitely want to in the future. Do you think chase or Amex would be better, because It seems like chase is way more affordable but I like the benefits and hotel status that the Amex provides for upgrades. Can’t you also bid on seat upgrades with Amex points?
Either =) I would be interested in your views on why or when to cancel cards and which ones, if any, you have canceled. I'd also love to know which cards and in what order you would get if you started today knowing now what you know.
My opinion is that's way too much in annual fees unless you are spending a lot of money to justify it. A lot of those amex credits expire every month so you have to be using them every month. I like Cheesecake factory but I don't want to have to go there every month. 😅
If i have the freedom unlimited or CFP if I don’t book through chase portal how much X multiplier do I get if I book for example Iberia directly in their website?
Question, if I use a majority of my Chase points for travel, should I cancel those cards and get a different credit card setup? Capital One Venture, for example? Then after 2 years, go back to the Chase trifecta to get the signup bonuses?
@@reynaldoalvaradojr5772 I have kept my oldest cards open but have closed some of the newer ones that I got the rewards from. My score is still above 800
Hey Daniel, thank you! I am running with the Chase trifecta identical to yours. Would love to know your thoughts or see a video on this. I’m trying to run with as few cards as possible. Thank you!

Typically no, but maybe some other people have had different experiences with this. I would search around on Reddit to see if anyone has had any luck with this if you want to try!
I received a targeted offer via mail for 90k CSP last week. But I'm at 5/24 until late August, which is after the "target deadline" Aug 4th marked in the mail paper. I think Chase does not consider 5/24 status when sending out these targeted offers. Not sure if worth trying though
My fav out of all those top tier cc is the platinum I have sapphire higher one and I prefer the Amex platinum all day. If you went ev you wouldn't stress the gas points 😉
@Daniel Braun: How often do you have to travel each year to make the Platinum worth getting? I am truly considering it. I already have the Preferred and Freedom Unlimited from Chase. The Platinum would be the ultimate card, but worried if I don't travel enough to make it work.
Dan, I only have the Chase trifecta because I'm afraid of splitting points between Amex & Chase, wouldn't you miss out on accumulating more points in one platform so when you book a trip they all come out that account (say chase or amex)?
The good news is that for several airline transfer partners (British Airways, Air France Flying Blue, Singapore, etc), they are both Chase and Amex partners - so you can always consolidate points by transferring to programs like those. Amex has a few other really good airline partners that Chase doesn't have and Chase has Hyatt which Amex does not have - but in general I think it's really nice to have flexibility with options across both Chase and Amex. That being said, if spending if very low and not many points are being earned, then the argument could be made to focus on just 1 program between Amex and Chase instead of more than 1 if that makes sense. Lots of ways to approach this and it all depends on each person's spending habits!
Hey Daniel and cc community , I have a pre approval offer on Amex plat for 125 k on $6k spend but on resy Amex offers 100 k for $6k spend and 10x on restaurants on max $25k for 6 months. Which one do you think is better ?
For someone who is hesitant about the AmEx annual fees, how do you feel about getting the chase trifecta for hotels and such, and then just adding the Capital One Venture X card for flights? If you get Citi custom cash, you can still get gas or grocery benefits that way.
Unless there's something I'm missing with Capital One, that wouldn't make sense. The Venture X card gives 5x on flights but both Chase Sapphire cards get 5x on flights too. So you'd be paying $395 annually for the Venture X for nothing. It'd be better to just keep it centralized with Chase so you can stack points and transfer them to the Sapphire card for redemption
My point has to do with assuming you will be mostly using points for transfer. With chase, I would most likely transfer to Hyatt for best redemptions, the question is then how I would get points I can transfer to flight partners. I was positing maybe VX is a decent alternative to Plat in that instance - the downside is the VX flight transfers are mid esp compared to Plat @@SIat
Personally, I'm loving the Capital One duo. I definitely don't want 3 active cards to use. Unfortunately, there's no gas benefit, but I don't fill up very often so I just throw it on the Venture X for 2x.

I really like the Chase trifecta. I think if they added a consistent grocery and gas bonus, I wouldn’t even consider Amex!
Nope, me either.
Thats the missing magic with most of these cards now, isn't it?
The fact that chase doesn’t have an in store grocery multiplier is criminal. One day I’m hoping they implement this. Even a 2x or 3x would be good enough
Yeah I have the BCP for that exact reason. I max the $6k 6% every year and use it for 6% on subscriptions and if the freedom flex gets a grocery category at some point during the year I’ll use that to get chase points. I’d love if the freedom flex got even 2% back on groceries. I’m considering downgrading my BCP and opening an Amex gold since the grocery bonus is up to $25k at 4%.
For anyone in active duty military the AMEX cards are a no brainer! Fees waived but all the benefits
Love your videos! Much love from China. Just opened two chase cards this time when I came to the US.
@stevenbanni4143 yup there are ways sure
Hi and thanks for watching all the way from China! Great to hear that you've got some Chase cards!
Thank you, Daniel. Very, very helpful. Your pace of delivering information allows me time to digest the info. I like the delivery far better than the super fast speech pattern on many of your other videos. Much of your information is technical, and the conversational style is much more natural and helpful, to me at least. 😊
I LOVE seeing this unscripted version of you! This is great!
So great to hear that! Thanks as always for watching - I’m gonna make more videos like this!
I agree. Keep the unscripted one coming.
My dude apologies for having food allergies and reading food labels 😂. You're good my man
I enjoy the format and information! Great setups that can provide a lot of value! Thanks for the info ✌️
Great video. Love the conversational style. Keep them coming!
great video as always! love both trifectas 👏🏼
that's one of the main things i like about the capital one duo you get 3x or 4x on groceries depending on which savor card you have but i have heard that if you're grocery store has an app and you are able to pay with that app it counts as online groceries
Capital One points are great. They have a ton of airline partners, and Wyndham as a partner for Vacasa rentals.
If u had pair one of the chase cards with the CSP…which would it be….the freedom flex or the unlimited
Greetings from Puerto Rico, love the content.
Thanks so much for watching! I love Puerto Rico and went there last year - hoping to go back soon!
Should have gotten the God Trifecta CJ 😹 Could be a $0 AF 😉
@@CalbyNg nah bro, I’m not trying to make the CEO at Bilt upset 🤣🤣🤣
I picked up the Green for elevated SUB & more reasonable AF, plus it has broader travel category. Later i will replace with the business platinum.
Last time I checked, amex doesn’t rollover the monthly credits for things like the $10 Uber eats or Lyft, which was a con for me cuz not only would I have to force myself to use them every month, but $10 probably won’t even cover the entire price of what I purchase.
Question: When transferring points to airline lenders, do you have to be a member or can you continue to book a flight being a guest with your points?
I have the Flex and unlimited +Gold. I am unsure if I should get the Preferred just for the 25% boost when I travel 2 per year🤔
I’m at a crossroads.
Thanks Dan. It's amazing how you keep your head on straight with all these cards and setup.
Daniel, great format to the video. I understand the use of the Citi Custom Cash for 5x gas, but what do you do with your Citi points since you are primarily in the Chase and AMEX eco systems?
Just cash back?
thanks for all your videos: Can I ask a quick question that I can't find a direct answer: theoretically speaking, could I transfer points from chase to say British Avios, and then transfer those british avios to qatar avios?
Wait isn't chase sapphire has 2x points in everything else, isn't that better vs freedom?
Love these videos, love the unscripted ones. Please make for all categories of credit card.
First!!!! Don’t tell me otherwise 😂😂, now I’ll watch the video.
Lol I'll give you honorary first comment! 😂
How much on consumer products annually are you spending to make 6+ cards even worth thinking about
amex platinum states you can get a gold for no additional fee.
Oh man the last 10 days from your previous upload felt like forever 😅
Sorry about that! Got really busy around a long fourth of July holiday weekend - but I should be increasing my upload frequency for the rest of summer! Have another video almost complete already now
Thanks for waiting and watching!
@@TheBlinkisback09 noted.. thank you!!
Amex gold and Blue Business preferred is all you really need. You still get 3x points on flights with the Gold
My lineup is Amex gold ( food)- SP (transportation and streaming) - BILT (rent) -Amazon ( online shopping) Any recommendation as a fifth ?
Looking for a card that is good for general purchases ( retail stores , services , ect)
Im thinking a catch all card either a freedom unlimite 1.5x or amex blue business plus 2x up to 50k both are no annual fee
Couldn't you also do the AMEX Every Day Preferred or Green instead to start and get some bonus points and grocery points?
How long did it take you get all the chase cards? How much time did you wait between each application?
I don’t understand fully though because the the Freedom Unlimited offers the Auto rental insurance as well. So if the CSP really just used for the bonus offer? I guess 2% on all other travel helps vs 1.5 on the unlimited but is it worth it after the first year getting the bonus
Why not the green card?
I went to a Chase location to sign up for CSP and they offered 80,000 points and waived the $95 annual fee for the 1st year. This was about a year ago
All of this is new to me, my only credit card is a Cabela’s Club card, any suggestions to paying that off fast and getting a better CC setup?
I have the Chase Flex and have a lot of spending in grocery and dining. Is it best to work on completing the chase trifecta to maximize points or get the amex gold. I know I will not have a use for the Amex Platinum, but I would utilize the cash back categories of the Gold.
I’m working on my trifecta with chase fixed my credit and went for my CSP now just the waiting game of my plan for my other two
Can you do other head to head trifecta videos?
I’m just nervous because I truly don’t want my score to dip, even if it’s temporary of course. Any advise would be helpful from anyone in this same situation or have already gone through this. Thank you!
I’m 20 somewhat similar boat I have 5 cards now with my latest Being the Amex gold love the card the dip in your credit now is minimum compared to the benefits and everything you’ll have later on good credit is important but as long as you’re over 700 don’t be afraid to let it dip a little to acquire a new card credit is your tool use it!
Either =)
I would be interested in your views on why or when to cancel cards and which ones, if any, you have canceled.
I'd also love to know which cards and in what order you would get if you started today knowing now what you know.
I just got the ink business preferred and also got the sapphire preferred. What would go good with those 2
How will you book American Airlines with both chase and Amex points? Is it only through British airways or Iberia?
Don’t close your cards. Credit age is a factor in your credit scores
@@reynaldoalvaradojr5772 I have kept my oldest cards open but have closed some of the newer ones that I got the rewards from. My score is still above 800
What would you recommend for a pilot, that doesn’t need the travel benefits?
Hey Daniel, thank you! I am running with the Chase trifecta identical to yours.
What are your thoughts on the Triple AAA daily advantage card? 5% back on groceries, 3% back at Costco, and 3% back at gas stations on up to $10k of spend for the year.
Would love to know your thoughts or see a video on this. I’m trying to run with as few cards as possible. Thank you!
Amazing video overall, thanks for the knowledge
Thanks so much Eddie, appreciate it!
So when traveling abroad you’re using the CSP and Amex Platinum in that country?
I have the chase freedom, AMEX gold, & blue cash everyday, Costco citi visa. Practically they all cover the necessary used. Just be smart how you use them.
The Uber credits you get with Amex platinum do they accrue monthly over the year or is it use it or lose it?
best card to use for ride share?
Who makes your shirts man. They look so comfortable I want to buy some. Great vid by the way
They’re from Cuts Clothing! I actually just mentioned them in this video here: 10 Things I Stopped Wasting Money On
ruclips.net/video/c6NgLGdtDlI/видео.html
That video has an affiliate link in the description, and I believe they are running a 25% off sale right now. Outside of that sale, my discount code (danielbraun) gets 20% off
@@Daniel_Braun great. Thanks so much.
I got the Cap One Venture X, Amex Gold and Amex Platinum. Total 1250 in fees.. still pays for itself.
Yay, a vlogger actually saying a CSP is okay.
Considering cancelling my vanilla plat card and swapping to the CS plat.
For the Amex dining and Uber credits, can you use them on gift cards to effectively rollover credits month over month?
Typically no, but maybe some other people have had different experiences with this. I would search around on Reddit to see if anyone has had any luck with this if you want to try!
I received a targeted offer via mail for 90k CSP last week. But I'm at 5/24 until late August, which is after the "target deadline" Aug 4th marked in the mail paper. I think Chase does not consider 5/24 status when sending out these targeted offers. Not sure if worth trying though
What's the best card for general purchases and also has no foreign transaction fee?
Amex Lounge is planned for the new Ohare renovation!
Both also share Marriot as a hotel partner.
Hey Daniel and cc community , I have a pre approval offer on Amex plat for 125 k on $6k spend but on resy Amex offers 100 k for $6k spend and 10x on restaurants on max $25k for 6 months. Which one do you think is better ?
A very good realistic review.
You can truly get value from both systems!
Love the video ❤
Dude!! Please tell me what camera your using to record this video ? Dang it looks crisp ! Team chase !!
