    To explain the “card I can’t mention” that I talked about in the video because I’ve received a few comments about it.
    The videos here on my channel are 100% free and always will be. The goal of these videos is to educate as many people as possible about credit cards, points and miles, and smart money habits. In order to make the best possible content, I dedicate countless hours every week to research and write these videos all by myself. I also pay an editor who is much better at editing videos and helps to make them high quality.
    To make any money to support this free content, myself and other creators look to other forms of monetizing such as RUclips ads, sponsors, and affiliate marketing to name a few. For this channel, affiliate marketing is obviously a big part of that and comes in the form of affiliate links that are often in the descriptions of my videos. These affiliate links lead viewers to websites that allow them to sign up for certain products like credit cards. When that happens, that information is tracked and I receive a commission for someone signing up for that credit card. These links are 100% optional and I actually encourage anyone that uses them to check those links as well as any other public offers to find the best deals and the best sign up bonuses for themselves. There is a disclaimer for this in the description of every video as well and I try to be open about how this stuff works.
    In this video, I mentioned 10 credit cards that made this list (plus the bonus credit card that I couldn’t mention by name). Only 3 of these cards were able to be directly linked to with these affiliate links based on what I have access to at the moment. These 3 affiliate links can be found in the video description. For the remaining 7 credit cards and 1 bonus credit card, I do not have direct affiliate links for those. I do have a link to a general credit card page where offers for some other cards may be available, so I post that link in the description as well.
    The challenge with the 1 credit card and issuer that I couldn’t mention here is that they are strictly not allowed to be mentioned in videos where I am monetizing with these affiliate links at the moment. This is NOT due to other credit card issuers paying me to not mention them, but rather due to restrictions in place because this issuer does not work with affiliate networks the same way. So basically, I can either mention this 1 credit card by name and not post affiliate links for the other cards in a video like this - or I can post affiliate links for the other cards and just mention the features of the unnamed card without saying the name. I decided to try out that second option in this video because the affiliate links are an important part of helping my channel to operate from the revenue that they generate. I could have left out that unnamed card entirely, but I felt like most people would call out that this card was missing and should have made the list. So I wanted to at least reference it because it truly is one of the best cash back credit cards on the market, especially for beginners. This is the first time that I tested out mentioning this unnamed card like this, so usually I just say the name and then leave out affiliate links (like this video here from last month: ruclips.net/video/hZL6yvJ3a2o/видео.html)
    These restrictions with affiliate links are always changing and are one of the challenges that I try to navigate as best as I can. Many of the credit cards that I mentioned here will actually generate $0 in revenue for me anyway (for example I do not receive commissions for the PayPal Mastercard, Citi cards, and Wells Fargo cards at the moment). All cards that made this list in this video were determined without revenue in mind. Believe me, there are plenty of other really bad credit cards from bad issuers that would pay me more, but I will never include those cards on these lists. I also NEVER accept upfront payments from any 1 credit card issuer to talk about them more favorably than another. I have no direct contact with anyone at any of these credit card companies, and any money I make from credit card links comes on the back end from the affiliate commissions through third party affiliate networks that I am a part of.
    This is the first time that I have referenced this card in that way because I have seen other content creators refer to it the same way. But in the future to avoid any further confusion, what I am going to do is just not post affiliate links in videos where this card is talked about by name. That way I can just freely discuss the benefits of this card without worrying about breaking compliance rules.
    Hopefully all of that makes sense because I want this channel to be the most transparent resource for credit card and personal finance content. I will be making an income breakdown video in the near future to discuss this kind of stuff in more detail. As always I can’t say thank you enough to all of you that watch and support my channel! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me on IG or via the email on my channel page if you want to learn more about how I run things. I want this to be an open community of like-minded people! 👍

    I honestly respect Daniel for bringing up the mystery card (the Discover It Cashback). The card is not in his affiliate network, which is partly how credit card creators make their living, but he mentioned it anyway because it’s a good card and wanted people to know about it.
    I saw some people in the comments wondering what’s going on, or why he would do that. From a fellow creator’s perspective he’s trying to do everyone a favor by mentioning a card that doesn’t benefit him at all to mention.

    • @Daniel_Braun
      @Daniel_Braun  10 месяцев назад +26

      Thank you so much Ethan! Yeah that is exactly it! They are basically the only issuer that I can't mention by name with the affiliate network that I'm a part of. Other creators have had a similar issue and presented the card in a similar way. This is the first time that I haven't mentioned the card by name because usually I will just opt to not include the affiliate links which allows me to say the name. But like you said, the affiliate links are a big part of not only how I make a living, but also how I keep things running with the expenses I have for this channel. I tried to balance the affiliate links with referencing the unnamed card here.
      I obviously couldn't just completely ignore the card because it's still such a good one that had to be included! I tried to do the best that I could with what I have available to me, but in the future I think I'm just going to avoid the affiliate links in upcoming videos where I talk about the card. It'll eliminate the potential affiliate revenue, but I think that might be best for keeping everything not so confusing for the audience.
      As a fellow creator, thank you for helping to explain the situation Ethan! Truly appreciate you and the awesome content you've been putting out there for the credit card RUclips community! 👍

      @@Daniel_Braun of course man! I was surprised to see people giving you a hard time about it when it was honestly just a stand-up move on your part to benefit the viewer.
      The challenge is that it takes a lot of explaining for everyone to understand, which either takes up valuable time in a video or takes a lot of explaining in the comments, but hopefully people just realize that for credit card RUclipsrs it’s all about giving people good information, and that’s how we succeed. We only talk about cards that are good because that’s what helps people, there’s not really anything else to it. If we can make an affiliate income from it then great, but first and foremost we have to make good content, which is exactly what you were doing. Gotta give you credit for that!

The Chase Freedom Cards are always two of my favorite Cash-Back Cards, but there has been a lot of buzz for Cards like the Savor One (for good reason) as part of the Cap One Duo so love to see that Card here on the list as well. Also there’s cards like the custom cash or the freedom flex both 5% cards like the discover except they also earn point that can be transferred for travel. Just for extra info yes cards like the savor and double/custom cash are also just cash back cards but having other cards like the Venture (capital one) or Premier (citi) allow you to use points from those cards towards Travel. Discover doesn’t have that from what I’ve seen.

    Good video, I am definitely more of a cashback setup kinda person than a travel set up person.
    I just found it strange how he could mention every card on this list but /not/ the Discover it Cashback Card. A great card, mind you, where a student Discover it card (specifically the Chrome Card) was actually my first card. The cashback match at the end of the year is great.
    I was reading other comments to understand why he couldn't name it, and I finally found a place where he wrote a long excerpt explaining essentially nothing as to why he couldn't say it. Something about... compliance, with affiliate link issuers, or something. Are they that scared about Discover taking away sales from them? They know people can have multiple credit cards, right? I just don't understand. Regardless, strange, but I do appreciate the fact that he basically added it to the list without really adding it, which isn't necessarily fair for the great Discover it card(s), but of course it makes the list, it's a great cashback card. Love the customer service and app associated with the card, too.

      Personally, I don't like the U.S. Bank Cash+ credit card for the following three reasons but I really can't think of any other credit card which gives 5% cashback on utilities and most people have at least one utility expense in one form or another.
      1) A minor drawback with this card is that if you want a cashback redemption, you have to have a U.S. Bank account, otherwise you'll have to settle for a statement credit.
      2) A medium drawback with this card is that there's a $25 minimum redemption.
      3) A major drawback with this card is that your cashback rewards expire after 3 years. I see this as a major drawback because for example, if you've earned $5 in cashback and a better cashback card comes along, you either have to keep using this card until you reach the $25 minimum redemption or lose your $5 earned cashback if you don't intend to use this card after 3 years.

    Dude, you need to explain why you aren't allowed to even mention the name of that one card. Otherwise you just come off as some shady corporate shill who got paid off by some big bank to advertise one card over another.
    For those of you who don't know, that card he can't mention is the Discover it Cash Back card.

    • @Daniel_Braun
      @Daniel_Braun  10 месяцев назад +17

      Thanks for pointing out the card! And the reason I can’t mention it is because the affiliate network I work with has compliance rules in place. There’s not many restrictions, but that one issuer cannot be mentioned as of right now when there are affiliate links in that video.
      I obviously want to be 100% transparent, but I can’t explain every detail about the business side of this RUclips channel in just this one video which is already over 17 minutes long. I will actually be making a full income breakdown of how this channel makes money because I want this to be transparent!
      Other creators have addressed talking about this issuer in a similar way which is why I presented the card like that quickly here in this video. If there are not affiliate links used for a certain video, then I can mention it by name. Kind of annoying to work around like that, but affiliate income is vital to keep this free content continuing here on my channel so that’s what had to be done here in this video.
      Hopefully that explains better, but I want to be clear that I do not accept upfront payments from any credit card issuer to promote one credit card over another. All affiliate commissions are made on the backend from viewers who chose to use my links to apply for new cards. Totally optional and I think it’s a good system that allows me to give my honest opinions about what I like and don’t like about all credit cards I talk about 👍

      @@Daniel_Braun Thanks for the reply! So basically Amex said you can't mention their competitor in any of your videos. NGL, when your channel is about giving unbiased reviews of credit cards (to people who are likely very new to credit) and a bank is paying you to not mention their competitor, it really does look like a glaring conflict of interest.

    • @Daniel_Braun
      @Daniel_Braun  10 месяцев назад +5

      Just to be clear, I do not work directly with any credit card issuer. No credit card issuer tells me that I can’t mention another one. Myself and all other content creators work with third party affiliate networks that give us links to all cards and the income from those affiliate links are crucial to run my channel. There is pretty much 1 issuer that I can’t mention in a video like this because of compliance rules that this issuer has in place.
      I still wanted to at least mention that issuer here by referencing it without the name because I really really like that card and I’ve mentioned it in countless other videos. I could have completely ignored the card, but I did want to still reference it knowing that people would point it out in the comment section for beginners to learn about.
      I’m truly trying to do my best to present all info possible, but if you would prefer that I don’t use affiliate links then let me know because I will consider what is best for the quality of the channel in the future. Again I’m trying to create content in the best way possible to help the most people - so wishing you and all viewers all the best! I think you should have mentioned why you "Couldn't mention Discover" for "compliance reasons" I know you don't read these and don't care about us who watch your channel.. but it allows us to know you're being paid not only by youtube, who has upped our fees to watch this on premium, but also other credit cards, that can shut you up and make you a puppet to them.. This ... causes me to "unsubscribe" sorry.. not watching a sellout!

      Hey Kevilyn, I absolutely do read 100% of the comments here on my channel and I care a lot about anyone that watches my videos! I just posted a comment that I pinned at the top of this video to explain everything in as much detail as possible. I am going to copy it here to hopefully explain how my channel operates for full transparency. I'm more than happy to chat with you directly via IG or email if you'd like so feel free to reach out 👍
      Pinned comment:

      Also you are totally free to unsubscribe if you choose to. I'd love to have you as a subscribe and as a part of this community if you ever change you mind. The content I make is 100% free and I will no longer post affiliate links where this issuer is mentioned in future videos so that I can talk about them by name. Hopefully all of that makes sense, so apologies for any confusion!
