How To Clean And Reassemble A Neo Geo MVS Cart / Rom (Important Reassemble Tip)

  • This is the mvs game that I got from kenn6275 that wasnt working. The main cause of this was that the previous owner put one of the rom boards in backwards when they reassembled the cart. If you take one of these games apart, make 100% sure that the boards are in correctly Both of the rom pcbs should have the parts side (roms and ic`s) facing the back of the cart. This means that the Solder side of the pcb`s should be facing the triangle notch on the front of the cart. If these boards are put in backwards your game wont start up and it will cause problems. This is a very simple thing but if done in a hurry or by someone who is not used to putting these carts back together after dis assembly, it will cause unwanted graphical issues and cause the game to not start up. When in doubt, if you have another neo geo mvs cart, undo the screws and open up the casing so you can see how the rom pcb`s are supposed to go in and how it goes back together. Hope this helps you guys out.

    You saved the day for me! I opened up a cartridge to clean it up, got distracted and didn't note how it was put together! Thanks

    "there is no problem with this game cart" unless you count the game in it, LOL.
    Great vid man, I have not had the chance to take one of these apart so it was nice to see the inside of one.

    Thanks a lot for this. Saved me when I realized I mixed up my boards before putting them in a new shell.

    I'm new to the Neo Geo world and had one of my carts pulled apart looking it over. When I put it back together it was all artifacts. With this video I found out about the chip placement (facing rear) and got it working. Thanks so much and keep the videos coming. Some of the best in this genre.

    It blows me away how many people sell MVS carts as faulty when it's just dirty contacts. Good idea putting this up man. BTW, the reason it didn't fry the PCB being backward is the ground is in the center of the edge connector and the power is on the edges on both sides -_^

    Great helpful video. Not sure I agree about the popularity of Ninja Combat - I love that game. It was the first game I played on the MVS back in the 90s and it made me Neo Geo fan for life. Now I'm blessed to have an original 4slot mvs cabinet in my home.

    Glad I saw this. I got a copy of SvC Chaos today and I was afraid it was a bootleg so I opened it and checked. It wasn't, the original owner just changed the label lol But now I know that it's easy to put the boards in wrong. The custom label is literally just regular paper with a sticky side. I may have to make a better quality label 😅

    @codenamegamma AES cartridges usually have a 4 credit limit per game session, and unless it's any game from the mid 90s (i.e. any of the KOF games, Fatal Fury 3, etc.), the only options they have is the difficulty. MVS has options which can only be adjusted in the service mode. not to mention, that it's got a different pin layout.

    after doing some research on this whole thing, it seems that screw in the front is a potentiometer that can be adjusted if the games show any sort of distortion in the graphics. The Last Blade suffers from this. It's too much of a hassle to go this route in order to play mvs titles, Larry, which is why Luke's videos have inspired me to buy a supergun and mvs board, which I've just done! Can't wait for it to be delivered. Also, please post some more retro game vids, Larry.

    @Perkinson78 true. it was one of the many good games Alpha Denshi made for the NG. I remember playing this at a service station at what was once the Orlando Naval Training Center back in 1995.

    Luke, why are there empty spots all over MVS boards? The games I have are just like yours and have the same thing going on. Did SNK use those empty spots for prototyping and just re-used the same PCBs?

    Hey I know this video is old but I was hoping for some tips on what to do, I recently got a Neo Geo 4 slot Cab and the two out of the four games have problems Baseball Star doesn't start in any slot and then samurai showdown gives vertical lines and also stops the sound from working is there any suggestions you have. The other two games work with no problems with every slot

  • @alltidmagnus

    ..but when fumbling with the pcb there, a thought struck my mind. Why don't you mount that cam on a tripod or something?
    You make a lot of cool videos, would be nice to get some stead shots, heh?

    I have a mvs arcade single slot ! It came with bust to move. And it works fine ! I put in neo turf masters and the game was working at first ! But no it reset the game ever time I play it? I put back the bust of move game , and it works fine again . Something is wrong with my turf master ! Please tell me what could it be?

  • @SatoshiMatrix1

    @lukemorse1 Ah.. so then does that mean that all MVS games universally use the same PCB? I collect NES and Famicom games, and those have so many different boards you need very specific donors for reproductions. Not so with MVS games?

    Have tried using an eraser to clean the contact points? I find that works really well. I did that once with old RAM for a PC and got them back to working properly. Eraser cleans the points fast also.

  • @GameSensay
    @GameSensay 3 года назад +1

    You placed the insert tab the wrong way. When placing the arrow side down of the cart, the insert tab of the fatter end is up and the skinny end is down. I can feel the crushing pressure in my heart when you screwed in the screws.

  • @Helvetica_Scenario
    @Helvetica_Scenario 13 лет назад +1

    It can actually be done with a converter. However, there are some titles that are not compatible with them. I'm not familiar with these, but I know they're probably not cheap.

    Great video. I wanted to know if you have any experience fixing AES carts also. I have a loose Japanese copy of Alpha Mission 2 that that's garbled graphics. I opened the cart and cleaned the contacts but to no avail I had no luck unfortunately. If you think you could fix it or know someone who can let me know asap. This message also applies to all who watched this video and read through the comments. I'd appreciate any help from anyone who has the time thanks.👍😎👌

      Considering when the AES came out, it was basically 1.5 whole generations ahead of it's time due to being basically the arcade board with a modified BIOS to be a home version.

    Pretty much. It's obvious that whoever manufactures these converters is a blatant opportunist. I would imagine you could try to find the pinouts online and build your own if you were an electronics wiz.
