    Very informative video; I found it very helpful. Also, thanks for the link to the MVS scans site! I just bought Metal Slug 2 on eBay and I figured that it was the real deal because the seller bothered to post pictures of the inside of the cartridge, but I went back and used the site to double check.

    I checked the authenticity of all of my mint carts by holding them at an angle in good lighting (or using a flashlight) directed through the vents of course, for extremely filthy carts opening is a must if you want squeeky clean boards, I use glass cleaner. See-through faded looking carts will look like glass if you buff em with Meguiar's cleaner wax and a micro fiber towel. Good video.

    Thank you very much for the video. I myself will be consolizing an MVS (on its way now!) and was looking for just this information.

      I'm doing the same! I just got my copy of SvC Chaos while waiting for the stuff to arrive and the custom label had me worried, but I verified it's an authentic copy in regards to the circuit boards.

    @NigzThaBoss Thank you, you've been a great help! Now I can get my boards out of these ugly abused carts :)

    @SitarKnight You can, but the ones that I know of require a bit of DIY. If you google Southtown Homebrew, go to the site and type MVS Labels into the search box then you will find them. You can buy 10 blank labels for $5. It's hard to see, but at the bottom of the product listing, there is a link that says 'click here for a 300 DPI Photoshop template'. Once you get the blank labels, you use that template (changing the text to your game of choice) to produce your label. Requires a laser printer.

    @AdsRadTube Smartarse... I should have mentioned in the vid that even if you do have a bootleg, you wouldn't notice. They play fine. Even the ones with 161 games on the one cartridge generally work fine. It's more just a point of interest to see if you have an original cart or one of the many bootlegs getting around. Anyway, the MVS isn't phased about complex issues such as dividing by zero. If Chuck Norris was a printed circuit board, he would be an MVS.

    Thanks :) Nice pickup! AES is a killer console. Pricey to collect for though! I've got a heap of new pickups lately. Been hectic at work though... Need to find the time to get back to doing some videos

    I knew as soon as you opened that yellow cart that it was a bootleg due to the way the SNK logo appeared on the top board! It never, ever, should look like that and they’ve never used lower case letters for their logo. Not to mention that the letters never appear in the middle of the boards either.

    Are the different colour cartridge cases third party replacements. I assume SNK only used Black cartridges.

    @KANSASCITYMACK29 Well that is pretty hard to answer really... It should be many many years. They don't have much that can really go wrong with them. As long as they aren't stored in poor conditions (like a moist basement etc) they should keep going for a long time yet. It's the same with old Mega Drive / Genesis games or Gameboy games etc. They are all still going strong. I think cartridge based systems will generally out live the optical drives found inside the more modern consoles.

    If I wanted to stick all of my games into newer clear cartridges. Can I get replacement stickers?

    What would be the difference(s) between an official copy of a game and a non-hacked bootleg copy? Are there any differences except for the boards and labels?

  • @NTB_Retro
    @NTB_Retro  12 лет назад

    @WickedClownNZ Yeah mate, it doesn't really bother me either. At the price of AES games, I'd be pretty annoyed, but the MVS titles are much more reasonable. As long as it functions properly and I got an ok deal, I'm not worried. Like you say though, it's nice to know what you have.

    I was afraid I had a bootleg of SvC Chaos after noticing the label was custom and the PCB had a weird tiny board sitting on top of one of the RAM chips, but the PCBs are original even with that tiny board, it's just that the label was custom. lol

    @SuperNatPro Being a Chef, I thought you could show me a thing or two about cleaning potatoes? I broke the last couple of potatoes I tried to clean. I'll stick to electronics and leave the potatoes to the pros.

    I don't think so. As far as I am aware, SNK originals do come in other colours besides black. I could be wrong though...
