    The capability of this machine would of blown away all competition in it's time. The Japanese keep the best things for themselves; the X68000 is such a great example!

    One thing I learned from Luke:
    When in doubt, replace the capacitors ! It works 99% of the time ! ^^

    This powerhouse was actually a workstation for game developers, most of the Capcom cps arcade games were developed with this thing.

    Nice pickup! I've been refurbishing mine for a few weeks now. Replacing the capacitors and diodes in the PSU didn't fix the sound issue i'm having, but I think i'm on the right track. These are a true headache to work on. The drives do not use a belt, however, if the drives test out as "bad" it can be a result of bad capacitors on either the motherboard or the floppy drives itself.

    Wow, very interesting! As a Capcom and Konami fan, I've always found the X86K very alluring. Akumajou Dracula on this system is fantastic, has really good sound, too.

    There are actually adapters that were made to convert older Macintosh connectors to VGA that might work, as the connector is the same. They should be fairly simple to pick up online.

    @8bitbubsy 12 лет назад

    If the PSU pops the fuse after you've cleaned it, then it might be a closed resistor or transistor. You can check this in Ohm mode in your multimeter, check the resistance between the transistor (and voltage regulator) pins. Infinite Ohm is a open unit (broken), near zero Ohm is a closed unit (broken).

    Aw yeah that is all kinds of awesome, nice to see take advantage of where you live Luke. Wow that is a sweet rig, like the Cadillac of retro computers. Ports, glorious ports everywhere. ^_^ Very cool, I can't wait to see the games you ordered. :O

    Awesome, i've wanted one of these for a long time. Sadly, the P&P to get one send to the uk is bad enough...nevermind the cost of the system. :(
    Glad to see you've got one, looking forward to seeing it fixed up and playing games again.

    In the '80s, the case design of X68000 was often referred as "Twin Towers."
    Of course, that meant the famous twin towers.

    Very cool Luke, those are great computers, that Expert HD looks like it's in good shape too. Are you going to try and find an original Sharp CRT monitor? Like you mentioned there are tons of great games available for the 68k, especially arcade ports that were way better than anything else available at the time thanks to the X68000 processor that beast was packing. Looking forward to seeing how these turn out!

    This machine looks extremely cool. I'm wondering if it might be possible to use a smaller PSU like an SFF or SFX that was a more similar size to the ATX one so you could actually fit it in the housing?

    Hey Luke,
    Good stuff! I love the x68ks!
    You can find VGA adapters in Yahoo Japan. Check autcion f110205597 for an example.
    There are some games though that do require 15kHz so you got to have a multisync CRT to support that - those are not the majority of games though. Check my site, I have a list of which games require it.
