The intro and basic piano line was something Paul made up as a piano exercise for himself for home practice. Of course, he turned it into a wonderful song!
@@normandavidtidiman9918 it’s arguable. Paul himself says different things at different times, I think the most plausible explanation is that it’s just… layered.
Yes, it is a fun, happy song. It was for his beloved ol' sheepdog, Martha. Martha is in many photos and videos with him and Linda. This was a great, great reaction. And on the money, Miss Jayy!!😊
Yes he did, I'm afraid. He got her as a puppy from a breeder named Ann Davis. He originally named her Knickers bcuz she had an accident on his lap. His current girlfriend, Jane Asher, hated the name, so he agreed to change her name to Martha. He was so attached to "Martha" that when he had to travel, he asked the breeder to care for her instead of leaving her in the care of his housekeeper. He was very attached to that sheepdog. And yes, he did dedicate it to Martha, his sheepdog. You see, Mr normandavidtidiman9918, I actually lived through Beatlemania from its inception. Best wishes.
@@normandavidtidiman9918 it most CERTAINLY IS about Paul's beloved Sheep dog, Martha. Anyone that is a real fan of the Beatles and LIVED through the time the Beatles were together, KNOWS that. @@patticrichton1135 Irrelevant whether the dog is the videos or not,I know she fucking existed you moron 🙄 “"Martha My Dear" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1968 double album The Beatles (also known as the "White Album"). Credited to Lennon-McCartney, the song was written solely by Paul McCartney inspired in title only by his Old English Sheepdog, Martha. The song has been interpreted as a veiled reference to his break up with Jane Asher, particularly in the line "don't forget me". "Help yourself to a bit of what is all around you" refers to her alleged affair while away from McCartney with The Old Vic Theatre” (Quotation) ‘Hold your hand out you silly girl’….I think is proof that the name alone means nothing. It’s no more about his dog than it is about Jane Asher probably. The words fitted the tune that’s all.
Yes, Martha was Paul’s beloved Old English Sheepdog, listen to the song again with that in thought and the song becomes even more interesting. When you start reacting to more of The Beatles' solo work, Paul had a black pony named Jet, and yes, there is a song called Jet.
Martha was the name of Paul and Linda’s big sheepdog you see in a couple of their videos. This is just another great, happy McCartney tune. I never tire of watching your facial expressions. Keep em coming Jayy 🌺✌️
The absolute joy of McCartney is that he can start a song in one direction, take it in a completely different direction by the second stanza, then finish it a direction beyond that and it all works beautifully!! :)
Listening to these songs always makes me think of Mike Meyers relating about being a Beatle fan in those days, and the video of them getting on that helicopter with the "Bea" on one door and the "tles" on the other, and when they closed and the chopper flies off with them, how this SAD feeling came over him, and how he so wanted to run off with them. Sort of a majestic melancholy type of sadness....if that makes any sense.
I can't listen to that song anymore, especially with John singing it, it only reminds me of John being shot to death with a gun....it gives me the chills since then. it is the ONLY Beatles song in their entire catalogue that I skip on the record. Can't listen to it. I don't know if you were alive and remember clearly that horrible night of Dec. 8th, but I DO, I was 33 years old with 3 small children, and heard the announcement by Howard Cosell during Monday Night football. I felt like you would if you nearly fell down a long flight of concrete steps. It was horrible, that is why many of us find it hard to listen to that song now. It's just creepy.
I love your reactions!! Especially with The Beatles. You really can't go wrong with any of their songs. I'd love to see your reaction to Lovely Rita off the Sgt. Pepper album. It's one of my favorites.
This song from Paul is all about his beloved old english sheepdog Martha witch he bought before he meet Linda. So the song is about a beloved dog 😁. And by the way.... you'r great ❤️ U
Bach created the musical method called "Counterpoint" which is, more than one tune playing concurrently. Paul utilized the Bach method here by playing the piano in contrast with another piano. Ironically, it blends together. Brilliant!
The tempo didn't really change.... the beat and style did. The drums and a guitar come in playing and accenting the eigth notes rather than the previous simpler quarter notes. rather than the downbeats like before.
Martha was Paul's sheepdog as has been noted, but she's not the subject, which I believe is unknown but interpreted by some to be about his ex-girlfriend Jane Asher.
Its just a terribly sweet song to his beloved sheep dog, Martha. I named my wonderful lab Martha for paul's Martha. I adore my Martha and sing this to her all the time. Its such a lovely little song and so Paul.
Ringo played the tuba on this track. George Martin held the mouthpiece to Ringo's lips while he simultaneously played the drums. Also "Martha" was Paul's name for Ringo when they dressed as furries. Talk about diversity!
@@redletter2008 Except, of course, for Ringo who blew into the tuba mouthpiece. I'll grant you that Paul held Ringo's limp hands while he (Paul) provided the impetus behind them, so I suppose it's arguable just WHO did the actual drumming. But this is just canon, same-old same-old.

No need to hesitate, you're getting more and more in tune with the Beatles' voices. That was indeed Paul.
The Beatles White Album is full of musical surprises. "I'm So Tired" follows next on the record.
In my head I was singing I'm so tired after Martha ended.
I love that he's singing to his dog lol! 😂❤
