    As a new WRX owner I have to say how impressed I am with Hyundai. They are making extremely quick and beautiful cars. However, here's why I picked the Rex. The Hyundai is built for one purpose: be fast on a smooth and dry track. The WRX is also very fast on a smooth and dry track. Infact it's extremely competitive with the Hyundai! But it's also quick on loose gravel. It's quick on a slippery and wet track. It would be quick in the snow. It would likely be much quicker over a bumpy road. It can do all this while occasionally beating a (just about..) dedicated track car. I believe there's no wrong choice between these two cars. I love them both but I chose the WRX and would do so again.

    • @VitalJoe
      @VitalJoe 2 года назад +10

      Proven resale too… wrx has way more upside with aftermarket, a bigger engine with only 12psi boost.. imagine 19psi like the elantraN needs… plus like you say awd will harness more power.. the Elantra can barely hold up its stock horsepower, imagine when it’s Michelin tyres get a bit worn, won’t go anywhere.. wrx can also be fitted with Michelin tyres for better traction. Turn off the traction control and really launch the wrx hard

    It’s good to see the WRX put up a solid fight here in these races & not get completely smoked as I’ve seen in other vids, I’ve always been a Subie fan before I transitioned over to Hyundai & there N series of cars, Hyundai have upped there game big time over the last few years while Subaru are literally stuck in the past, Hyundai’s cars in my opinion look better, have better interior, performance, transmissions, features & are on par with the European brands, most notably the big 3 German brands in Audi, BMW & Mercedes. Albert Biermann & Peter Schreyer amongst others including Wonkyu Kang have turned Hyundai/Kia into a big time major league player & have transformed these two companies from your run of the mill cars into real innovative cars that have caught peoples attention. Subaru on the other hand have shown nothing of improvement, the new WRX looks hideous, and I’m sure 90% of the world agrees with me on this, but to each there own, the cars performance is stuck in the 90s, the car gets heavier & performance figures remain the same, it’s the only car that gets slower with each new generation, the reason they backed out of the STi is because people all expected it to have around 400hp to rival the AMG A45s but they knew they wouldn’t get anywhere near that & because of the negative press on the new WRX they just simply backed out & hit the self destruct button on the STi. Only gaining 3hp & no increase in torque from a larger 2.4L is a joke & why give the automatic option a CVT, you can call it a Subaru Performance Transmission & mask it with any fancy name you like, the CVT kills the performance of this car, who in there right mind puts a CVT in a sports car, that transmission cannot handle too much power, follow what Hyundai is doing & every other company & give it a proper transmission such as a dual clutch or even a traditional torque converter automatic would’ve been better.
    As for the race it is exactly as I expected, the WRX will have the edge off the launch due to AWD & can win some drag races depending on driver skill, but for the most part the Elantra N should take the drag race more often than not regardless of the superiority of Subaru’s AWD off a dig, as for the rolls it’s always going to be a one way street, the Elantra N weighs less (better power to weight), is only FWD (less drivetrain loss), and has more hp & torque, so has every advantage in that deptarment
    I would still like to see how the CVT WRX does against the manual & also please drag race the new WRX with the now last gen, I would love to see how much difference that 3 extra hp does in performance, I wouldn’t be surprised if the last gen beats it

      @@40nine99 You know, people were saying the very same things about Japanese cars back in the 70s when they first hit the western markets too: "are they reliable? They haven't been doing this as long as us" etc, etc. But times change, things develop and people adopt these offerings. Not all people, but those who appreciate products that are actually good, will see the value.
      I used to idolise WRXs growing up. I followed their '555' rally heritage for a long time. I thought that once I got driving age, I'd possibly own a WRX of my own. Instead, my first car back in 2003 was a brand new Hyundai. It never let me down even after the abuse I put it through as my first car (lol) and I've never looked back. But right now, one would be blind (or just ignorant) to not see that Hyundai has been doing some good things for a while now, and they're only getting better.
      The Hyundai N models come with a track warranty. What other performance car offers a track warranty these days? Honda? Subaru? If a company is willing to stand behind their product with a track warranty, somehow I don't think there's any issues as to its reliability 😅
      My original comment was to highlight that point that the WRX has peaked already; now Hyundai is joining performance car ranks, for real. No offence intended, and nothing wrong with liking Japanese cars - or Korean cars - for that matter. Sincerely, an Aussie with a Turkish background 👍👍
      P.S. my comment about the CVT was more saying that having a CVT in a performance car like the WRX, is a bit... ridiculous, imo. Subaru have lost their way imo if they're putting CVTs in their hot sedans. And don't even get me started on the WRX's styling. 😔

    I'm so glad I came across this video. The WRX gets absolutely smoked and something didn't seem right in other comparison videos. Literally like semi lengths smoked. This video was the best demonstration of these two cars head to head that I have seen to date. Of course, the N is no doubt going to be faster at the end of the day due to power to weight ratios, but this makes me feel a bit better ordering my 2022 manual WRX. I really wanted a 2022 EN but I live in Minnesota and we have extremely harsh winters. I couldn't quite see the point to getting the N over the WRX in my situation. Although I still love the EN and would love to own one... I think I'll be pretty happy with my WRX though :) Cheers, great video!

      You’re going to love it. I’ve had my 2022 manual WRX for a few months now and it’s amazing. Very fun to drive and there is torque everywhere in the powerband. It’s very engaging and has a lot of character. One surprising thing is how many compliments I get on how good it looks despite all the controversy. I really didn’t think people would say anything but I get more thumbs up or random people complimenting it in a parking lot or gas station than any other car I’ve owned including my Corvette.

    Two words for everyone to commit to memory: resale value. Subaru resale values have climbed to rarified air. This sumner I sold my 17 year old 2006 Outback XT for 37% what I paid for it new in Nov 2005. I bought my '11 STI in Sep 2014 for $32,000...sold it in late July for $29,000. And forget about Crosstreks. They're nearly immune to depreciation. People can poo-poo resale, but in my case, I paid cash for a WRX GT, because of the $$ I just cited.
    And as I always tell people, if every test is run in dry, perfect conditions, may as well pit motorcycles against cars. In wet a Subaru is often faster than dry because the wheel slip allows revs which ignites boost. So over the years I've been vulnerable in dry conditions, but done plenty of "red light races" in wet and snow and none of my Subarus or my Audi S4 ever lost. Ever.

      Exactly why you don’t try to compete with a FF car. Even a type R is a waste of money. My car is all wheel drive with a dct, I keep up door to door with v-8s until they hit 8 gear. I only have 7 speed 🤷‍♂️

      No tuning potential for Hyundai, it’s running 19psi boost standard so not much upside. The wrx runs 12psi and low redline so plenty headroom.. Wrx is basically jogging along whilst the Hyundai is eyes bulging out of its head

    Those were some great races Sam. You were both hammering through those gears. If I ever get an Elantra N, it will definitely be a manual. Just wish in the US, we also got the sunroof. It has already been proven that Hyundai is underrating the power of the latest N's. Now lets get the attractive Subaru on your drag strip, the BRZ/GR86. Would love to see them eventually in both manual and auto. Can't wait to see the new Type R on your channel as well.
