      The thing is lifting those weights on his own does act make him stronger. He seems to have good form. As long as he isn't compensating in a way that will ultimately hurt him, struggling on his own makes him stronger than if someone took the load off.

    • @Zack-bl2gg
      @Zack-bl2gg 7 месяцев назад +62

      @@Didleeios88yea, but to further the analogy, life doesn’t make sure you can lift a weight before giving you one. So you’ll end up hurting yourself if you’re not ready and trained how to lift. Then that injury just makes it harder to lift weights in the future, an end less cycle until you ask someone to help.

    • @Didleeios88
      @Didleeios88 7 месяцев назад

      I agree with you entirely. If someone is not lifting the weight correctly they do indeed need some support/education.
      At the same time I think we live in a generation where people believe the solution is for someone else to lift the weight for them. This does not allow us to get stronger.
      Sometimes even the struggle to figure out how to lift the weight is more valueable then being told how.
      The truth is that rather than "help" from strangers in an app (or even the therapist couch), we need empathy from real people in our lives with whom we have real two-way relationships@@Zack-bl2gg

    • @saul94923
      @saul94923 7 месяцев назад +34

      @@Didleeios88naw brother that's the issue. You can't get stronger if you can't lift the weight properly. Think of actual therapy like a personal trainer. Its there to spot ya when you need it and point out when your form is lacking or dangerous. Could you achieve the same results yourself? Yeah over time it's possible. Is it easier and safer with a personal trainer (real therapist)? Hell yeah. Just because something is harder doesn't mean it's better.

      Lmao every one of those meal service plans are a joke/scam. The ONLY people who can afford ANY of them are people with more than middle-class incomes who already spend over 100$ a week on food. A WEEK, NOT MONTH, A FKING WEEK. Like, Chef's Plate and Hello Fresh are hilariously fking awful for cost. I, being poor like I am, originally thought these would be options for me. NO, OF COURSE THESE ARE FOR RICH LAZY PEOPLE. 😆 What WAS I thinking...
      Hello Fresh, for example, is 1-5 MEALS a WEEK, so not a full week's worth of food, it's like 1 meal a day for 5 days, or even less, if you are indeed feeding the minimum 2 people. If not, then you have double portions so there's some leftovers to stretch I guess... But it's still not a full week of food. BUT THE PRICES? For the "first box" with that "first" discount, you can get a box as cheap as like maybe 30$ Canadian before tax and shipping - but you pay PER WEEK and the very next box would be full price at like 70-100$ (before shipping and taxes, CAD). If you actually add that up, even at the cheapest non-discounted price, that's STILL 60$ x 4 (so 240$ a month on food - double the standard budget for a 1-2 person adult household). It's not only not affordable, it's providing LESS goods for the cost of DOUBLE what you'd have paid just going shopping at the grocery store 1-2x a month.
      For one week of food (that will likely last into the next week) it's less than 50$ for me and my partner. That's our eggs, bread, butter if needed, veggies, fruits (fresh or frozen for either of these) and a couple other things like rice or pastas. I've gotten us by on 25$ for the week before, that's not so hard to do if you're not buying super expensive fresh ingredients.
      At NO POINT would I consider it a valuable use of my money to be buying a box service that's going to cost me DOUBLE the national household budget for groceries FOR A FAMILY WITH AT LEAST ONE CHILD IN IT for PORTIONED food packets that can't even be stretched or used variably? For that kind of money, just go get the actual full products and have more than 5 meals a week. :|

It's either they accept sponsorships from companies like this or Raid, or they can't afford to pay their bills. Particularly with how bad youtube's monetization policies have gotten over the years.

If they advertise something good about themselves, or how they're doing something for the people, they're just doing it to draw more people in and not because they actually care about the well being of their consumers, and most are going to be doing something far worse behind the scenes that the average consumer will never know about unless they really go out of their way to dig into it.

    For anyone who hasn't already heard: The whole expression "pulling oneself up by one's bootstraps" seems to have originated with a story about a man being inconvenienced by a stone wall across his land or something, and the newspaper writer joked about how the people building the wall must imagine he will pull himself up by the straps of his boots (that is, _lift himself into the air_ ) in order to cross this wall when needed. It was not a phrase for "get a grip", it was a phrase for "being expected to do something literally impossible".

      Sucks because she was the only therapist available at the time in my whole county. Ended up stopping and only have a psychiatrist now, but at least feel there is more help through medication than talk therapy (not that talk therapy would ever help with most of my current symptoms like fatigue which don't matter if I am happy or not).
      I feel like the most effective therapy I've ever gotten was going to a "therapeutic day school" back in high school, because they really pinpointed and focused on our weaknesses and push us to progress to improve those. That and even more, the environment of classroom with no more than 9 students and no homework really was positively life-changing to the previously socially-withdrawn/emotionally-unstable/selective-mute teenage me.
      Maybe I've plateaued because of that though, and I'm already as good as I'll get. I'm at a place where I don't feel suicidal or like hurting anyone, and can socialize normally enough to not be questioned (used to be asked if I spoke English, if something was wrong, etc). I mainly just still feel social anxiety (normal awkwardness), and fatigue and mild ADHD and Depression symptoms.

I swear I was looking for the parody the entire time they were doing the ad spot for Factor... 15$ per frozen dinner? That's insane - I've seen comparable or BETTER frozen meals at the supermarket for under 8$. Why the FK would I pay 15$ per frozen meal? Nevermind that they may be owned by Hello Fresh, and those prices for the plans are STUPID when you look into them. What you get: food for LESS than 3-5 MEALS per week (hint: you usually likely eat at least 2 meals A DAY for 7 days of the week) for 2 or 4 people. Cost: CHEAPEST (not including first box discount) is 60-70$ PER WEEK CANADIAN PRICE before shipping and taxes.
      I'm sorry, 60-70$ for 2-person box with 3 meals FOR THE WHOLE WEEK, is not only NOT going to feed you all week (meaning you still need to go grocery shopping) its ALSO MORE THAN YOU WOULD HAVE PAID FOR THE FRESH INGREDIENTS AT THE FKING STORE. Which would provide more than enough for MORE than 1-2 meals, in most cases.
      The absurdity... These sh1tty "solutions" to problems we do not have (you can just order the delivery of most groceries from the grocery stores since Pandemic hit us in 2020 anyways, at least here in Canada most major retailers of food will deliver for a small fee now) are so worthless they can only be of mild use to the rich people who are able to throw money in the trash for pretty much nothing and not feel the lack of funds because of it.

If you're all messed up, be it depression, anxiety, PTSD (my issues) or something else, you CAN (and will) get better. Just start very small. Start your day with something like making your bed (what I make sure to do when feeling bad), or doing a chore you've been putting off. Accomplishing one small thing will set you up to accomplish another, or at the very least will mean you did something positive. Accomplishing goals no matter how small they may be, will be another mental check for you. I know even the most simple tasks can seem impossible when depression is hitting you hard, but just get one done and I promise, if at least for a moment, you'll feel better. And remember whoever you are, somebody out there loves you. Now go make your bed.

      In person therapy isn't great either. CBT and DBT are great tools, but you don't need one-to-one therapy to learn the important concepts. In fact, it works better in a group so you can get multiple perceptives, social solidarity and the opportunity to view problems with some objectivity. It's also cheaper in a group which is why the medical industry really prefers you have your own individual therapist. Online therapy shows the glaring inadequacies, but the metaphor used in the video, "Maybe the weight isn't that heavy," is pretty spot on in my experience. I once told a therapist about an issue I was having at work, they told me it's all in my head. Then when I had solid evidence that what I knew was occurring was actually occurring, they told me I need to increase my "tolerance." I asked how I could do that, they said theyd research that and they never really got back to me. Essentially they tried to get me to gaslight myself and when that didn't work anymore they told me to, "toughen up." And I, being a fool, gave them several thousand dollars for it too.

It can easily become a reinforcing issue of "I don't need to change my behavior, all of these other people behave just like me too, the world just needs to change to accommodate me!". Honestly most "therapy" is just having a supportive friend you see often. The problem is that's becoming harder and harder to find. The out going people overload themselves with 20 or 30 "friends" and never really experience any of them. While introverts its easier then ever to rarely if ever need to deal with people. The folks in the middle do alright but they are getting to be a smaller and smaller group as people get pulled into one or the other two groups too easily.

      After working for multiple fast food places during my teenage years through early 20's I can attest that despite wearing gloves most fast food employees scratch their asses, wipe their face, pick their nose, etc while in the process of assembling the over-priced, low-quality burgers you purchase. When I worked at an Arby's I once saw a co-worker drop a roast beef and cheddar sandwich on the ground (it fell apart) then pick it up, wipe it off with his glove, add some more roast beef on top, an extra squirt of cheese, then put the bun back on, wrapped it, and put it in the bag for the drive-thru customer like nothing happened.
      I mentioned this to our boss and he didn't give a shit and actually thanked the other employee for not wasting product.
      The fucking sandwich fell apart, landed meat/cheese-first on the ground, and got served.
      I don't know if you've ever worked in fast food but the floors get greasy and filthy and eating that could give a person food poisoning.
      I also used to work at a KFC and I remember when another employee was clearly sick but showed up and while battering the chicken he was coughing all over it and spraying mucus while doing so. I told him I'd take over and most of the chicken had green phlegm all over it so I started throwing it away and my boss wrote me up for it. He said I was wasting product and when I mentioned why I did so he told me to not worry about because it got fried anyways.
      Another time I worked at McDonald's and literally saw another worker re-adjust her pad (she was on her period I assume) with her glove in between assembling food, she didn't wash her hands or change her gloves.
      Worked at a Sonic Drive-In as well and seen multiple issues there but one of the worst was when an employee dropped an order of tots and then scooped them all off the ground with his gloves and then put them back in the carton, seen a coworker who clearly had the flu have nasal drainage in a persons milkshake as well.
      Yeah... I don't eat fast food anymore lol.

    You can see a licensed psychologist for about 60 an hour on zoom. You can also negotiate with in-person therapists to ask for their uninsured rate. They might have spots available for those in need or if your needs are greater than your insurance cover. Psychiatry can be pretty inaccessible but you can sometimes find GPs who have clinical experience in mental health and who will see you as a GP (and get insurance cover) and work with you on medication if you need it. It isn't ideal, but this isn't an ideal system

      T_T yeah that 60$/hr is about what I found out here too, and that is STILL far too expensive for literally anyone on disability or welfare and even for most people making under 40k a year, depending on where they live here (in Canada). That adds up to about 240$/month that most of the people who need the services cannot afford (at least here). At least we CAN get referred to a psychiatrist easily enough, even if it does sometimes take a bit of a wait, and there are group programs that you can get onto waiting lists for after doing lengthy interviews over the phone that you also have to wait on a long waiting list for...

    The problem is that if you are neurodivergent or have a debilitating mental illness, there's no way to tell what parts of your experiences are normal human things and which are symptoms. Before I tried ADHD meds I thought I was the problem. Before I sought help for the first time I thought being miserable and having nothing to live for was normal. At that point I had literally forgotten what it was like to be happy and content with life, and I thought it was just an impossible thing to achieve. I was told by a psychologist in 2020 that I didn't have ADHD and as a result I nearly dropped out of university and nearly took my own life. Only after I actually got diagnosed and started meds did things start getting better and now that I know that many of the things I experience aren't "normal" I can take action deal with them so that they don't ruin my life. Considering that mental health institutions are consistently failing mentally unhealthy people who are seeking help, I don't think we as a society should be putting the blame on the people who are just trying to get help and fix things. Self-diagnosing thought TikTok isn't a solution, but shaming struggling people is moving even further away from the solution. Mental health care needs to be more accessible, then people won't self-diagnose thought TikTok

    Even "real therapy" is more limited in its scope than many people realize. Therapy can help people to learn to introspect more, but at the end of the day most of therapy's benefits can be gained from just having a friend to talk to and have some person to bounce your thoughts off of, so you won't completely get stuck in your own head.
    When it comes to quite serious mental problems, all kinds of therapy have abysmal success rates. If therapy in these cases was judged by the same standard we judge efficacy of pharmaceuticals they would rank somewhere near taking multivitamins to cure your depression. Sure, in some very specific cases it might work, but in most cases it's basically a placebo. That being said, something similar also applies to many pharmaceuticals used to treat mood disorders.
    Demographic that benefits the most from therapy are the people who have some issues, but those issues are not completely debilitating. Like someone with a very busy life and needs some neutral third party to vent their frustrations to.
    When it comes to these more serious mental disorders like schizophrenia, severe depression etc you are kinda on your own to figure it out, even if you had access to the best mental care money can buy. If you are unlucky enough to not have a family that cares about you, your prospects for recovery are very grim.
    If one of you knows people who have serious mental issues, choosing to stick by their side will have multitudes of greater impact on their chances to make it through than any type of therapy does.

      ^^ thank you. i haven't heard enough people talking about this.
      i've been in therapy for close to 7 yrs. cbt and dbt have been very minimally helpful, and I've been with tons of different providers who use different approaches. talk therapy helps me set small goals and organize my thoughts but hasn't helped address deeper needs. I have bipolar type II, so i'm moderately or severely depressed almost all the time interspersed with short bursts of mild manic symptoms. medication and broad life-style changes have been the most helpful aspects of my treatment. i've tried changing the ways in which I approach mental health counseling, trying to get the most out of it. but if your problems are more associated with pervasive moods and mental states than with emotions and reactions, there's only so much cognitive reframing can accomplish imo. i'm already introspective (sometimes too introspective) so I always get stuck in therapy. wouldn't want to deter anyone from seeing what they can get out of therapy if available but I just wish it wasn't pushed so hard as the first and most critical line of treatment for anyone with a psychological problem.
      its unfortunate that the outlook for serious mental health disorders is so bleak but thats the ugly truth of where we're at. I've experienced it firsthand. whenever things start getting really bad for me, the only thing I've been able to turn to is the support of my friends and family. these are real diseases that you cannot save yourself from. and people without support don't get better. lethality of bipolar II is shocking just on its own. we have basically no idea how the human brain works and where a lot of these conditions come from. passionate people are working hard to learn but the incentive to develop new treatments (especially non-pharmaceutical ones) is lower than other types of illness bc there's lingering stigma and misinformation in addition to the fact that ppl with severe psychological conditions are often on the margins of society and can't voice their needs

      Therapy was life changing for me, but I also got in when I was a late teen and had zero structure or support from other areas ofmy life. I have no doubt that if I had a wise and stable shoulder to vent to and rely on for good advice or to teach me healthy coping mechanisms, I wouldn't have needed a therapist. But I didn't have those things, so therapy was absolutely critical in my growth and ability to maintain mental stability.
      In a perfect world all therapists would be trained experts in human behavior that would be helpful to literally anyone. Unfortunately they're not all created equally, they are human and subsiquantly flawed by their own underlying biases, motives, struggles, and other factors, and on top of that we live in a world that demands profit and capitalizing off of literally everything, which tends to make things messy. It's not a perfect system. In fact it's a pretty messed up system. But I think there's good people in there, knowledgeable people who want to help and can provide a lifeline for the people like me who probably wouldn't be here if not for them.
