One of my best memories in MHW is when I was helping my sister with a hunt in the forest. I'd just about caught up to her when so many things happened in less than 3 seconds.
1 - got a notification that Bazelgeuse had entered the map
2 - heard the Bazelgeuse roar as soon as it spawned
3 - I was just rounding the corner to see it happen
4 - my sister yelling out in terror in Discord
5 - explosions, so many explosions
6 - sister was instantly carted
I was laughing so hard I had to step away from the computer, and my sister still holds a grudge against Bazelgeuse to this day. MHW Bazelgeuse is amazing!

I mean yeah, lots of people remember the first time they saw a goose, it was really cool. The problem I have always had with it is that after that it's just annoying. 200 hours into the game I would've bought an expansion pack to delete it from the game. If they wanted that they could've just wrote that quests bazel different I guess? So it did act like that and the rest were more chilled? I dont know it's hard to say because I also have similar memories of the first goose but it was completely supplanted by the following hundreds of hours of sheer annoyance where seeing that goose notification just filled me with frustration as I selected my dung...

The removal of Invaders in Rise is probably the reason why not just Bazel lost a lot of soul but a lot of monsters in general

When you say invaders, what do you mean? Cause Valstrax invades, and other monsters show up while you're fighting another monster.
When I first played Rise on PC, I would get double invaded (2 monsters would appear while I was fighting 1) rather frequently. After the 3rd or 4th time, I was thought " oh, so this is a thing in MHR, because 1 monster invading wasn't annoying enough"

Bazel sort of lost its 'Invader' status in iceborne as Seething since it could only be found in the Elder's Recess. I never really hated Bazel all that much, I would just Dung pod him and continue on my way. I also like the changes to Seething as I don't consider him a different species, just an older, more experienced Bazel. It explains the more methodical approach over the younger Bazel's chaotic "CRASH AND BURN" style.
And yes, taking away his invader status does screw with him. He's a vulture, that's his whole point. Then again, they probably got all of the negative feedback from too many invaders (thanks Banbaro) and thought we didn't like it. No, invaders are fine, just not when we have like 5 of them!

Invaders in general just don't really fit in with Rise and Wyvern Riding. At this point, an invader actually feels like a good thing since it guarantees 1 Wyvern Ride for the first 1 at least. Bazel, who was infamous for being the invader monster for Monster Hunter World (Deviljho never really felt threatening as an invader), couldn't really shine in Rise. I remember always bringing Dung Bombs in Worldborne for any situation where I had to face 2 monsters. In Rise, I never bothered bringing them. The only time I could see myself using Dung Bombs was after a Wyvern Ride party in 1 location and having the monsters both move to the same new location afterwards.

    • @equinox-XVI
      @equinox-XVI 2 года назад +21

Even in the situation you mentioned at the end, Rise specifically made it so two monsters won't stick around in the same area for very long. The moment you show up, they might hit each other once or twice, but it'll be down to just you and one monsters within 30 seconds to a minute at most. Knowing this, I prefer to not bring dung bombs at all. In fact, I don't even have any. Rise is the only monster hunter I've played and in the 500+ hours I've played it, I have not needed to use dung bombs even once.

I 100% hold that they should have let up to 4 monsters into the locale at once (three normal Large Monster slots and a fourth hidden Invader Slot) in Rise and then have it so Invaders (Bazel and Rajang) won’t show up on the map until you encounter them if they’re not the main quest target. Keeps the suspense of Invaders intact since you would never know if one is on the field if you didn’t happen to run into it first.

That is one issue I have with Rise's monsters. A lot of them have improved (Rathalos is somehow one of my FAVORITE fights now with the changes in Rise despite being present always w/ variants) Deviljho and BagelJuice were scary in World as a fight on their own. But them jumping in is what made it. Deviljho might have been a groan or scoff when it showed up. It just was There Suddenly and made the fight annoying and made Dung Bombs NEEDED, but wasn't that bad. Bagel though?? The lack of loading zones, being able to fly above you without being noticed, and no flinching from being spotted made it so scary. God I remember playing with friends and we just got to HR, and we went into an expedition in the desert for materials. And I remember being at the mining node where its a drop off with vines, and then there are more vines to climb up and you reach the big desert dunes spot, and Bagel just dropped on me. I was SCREAMING and panicking and everyone was running to me because they were so confused. One of my favorite memories of MH ever, and I hope they go back to less pinpoint UAV-esc monster tracking instantly and bring back invaders (And not have monsters fight until both can't be ridden, and once they both are one will just leave asap)

Also velkhana had the same treatment in rise all moves that were at least a bit random were completely changed to being perfectly samey... Same with pukei and tobi all their moves that used the environment to either power up or get some unique random attack were removed and now the fights are a perfect order every time you fight them like pukei will just "power up" when he eats something at which point you can "hit his head to knock him out of it" and he will always eat something after a certain time unlike world where depending on what he ate his moves got a unique twist to them and even gained some unique moves and he would only eat whatever was available to him at the environment he was currently on... You could even stop him from eating...
Which is something I hope they don't continue with that in the next game I want this randomness this surprise element back

There has never been a more iconic invader in the series
-Was not hinted anywhere during promotion, straight up barged in at the start of High Rank.
-Hates everyone, would actively pursuit and interrupt ongoing fights and make itself the common enemy.
-Design and moveset are based on PTSD-inducing warplane themes, such as the soundtrack sounding like airstrike alarm, the carpet bombing, the kamikaze plummet.
-Is rival with Deviljho, that itself is a credential of ecological badassery for non-Elder Dragons.
Geuse was such a phenomenon on its own during early days of MHW and still was even after they pumped out the cancer that was Lunastra. My friend and I quickly caught on on its design theme and dubbed it the "World War Wyvern".

This guy was the shit. Bazelgeuse is like that friend no one invited but shows up anyways and leaves the place a mess. But It wasn't bad, I expected chaos, and unpredictability as it would make the hunts not go 100 percent the way I wanted.
Rise downgrading on monster behaviours makes this game not immersive.
    - have a monster Wyvern riden yet? If not Then the 1st strike on a non quest hunt monster by the other monster would put it in a mounting state.
    - have both been Wyvern ridden? Then both of the monsters will NEVER stay in the same place and 1 of them will always leave, ALWAYS, NO EXCEPTION.
There's no more chaotic feel as it always feels like you have everything under control unlike in W/IB where an encounter of Azure Rathalos, Banbaro, Uragaan and the Hunter have to duke it out for a moment and I would never feel safe knowing I could targeted anytime rather than All the time. But it was FUN, and I can actually avoid this by luring or throwing a Dung, my CHOICE.
They better bring invading monsters and ditch these portable style behaviours.

I understood Bazel's purpose as an invader and it helped mix up hunts so they didn't become too stale or samey, Deviljho was a similar monster and the implementation of turf wars also made things more hectic.
But by christ, at least make it so it doesn't happen. Every. FUCKING. TIME!
That was my main gripe is that every hunt would get interrupted by this screeching chicken and what started out as a "ooh what the fuck?!" quickly became "Oh fuck off..." followed by his obnoxious bombings which caused way too much trouble to be considered tolerable.

The worst part about Bazel in Rise is that there is a monster with a quasi invader mechanic - Valstrax! Who uses the comet attack as an "ambush" once in a while. Meanwhile, the only proper "invasive" monster in the game's roster is just tame and passive, it's so lame.
It doesn't help that they butchered his theme too, completely removed any of the dread that the original had. There's a mod in nexus that replaces bazel's theme with the original and I highly recommend it, it makes all the difference.

Bazel is my favorite monster hands down, and like many things going from World to Rise, I felt there was something missing from Bazel. World played up the Invader + Bomber theme, but in Rise it felt more like Rathian with a gimmick. I wish it's bombs had been more like it had been in base World, more bombs with smaller blasts to play up the carpet bomb concept. Making it no longer drop bombs at random is good, since it made attacking it's weak points while heated too punishing, though it loses some of the "unstable, naturally shedding destruction in it's wake" feel that helped it feel more like a creature in the world than a game piece in an arena. If it weren't for wyvern riding, Rise would've been the perfect place to play up it's aggressive territorial invader tendencies, since flash bombs are less effective and dung pods are harder to use.

I have 2 very iconic B-52 moments from world and 0 iconic moments of any monster in rise.
    1) Old Forest, Bazel probably tried to zoop off to ruin mine and a friend's hunt, but was near the breakable tree and likely hit that when taking off, getting caught in the vine trap 4 times before we killed the monster. Just seeing that he kept getting stuck was hilarious and almost caused us to cart at least twice because we were laughing too hard.
    2) This was the very end of high rank, I don't remember what I was hunting but I was preparing for the elder dragon rush, an was at the spire. Again, with a friend, we saw a shadow just loom over the monster we were hunting, before the bastardous goose bombed the entire area into oblivion, carting my friend and killing the monster.
Meanwhile in Rise closest I have to iconic moments of monsters is a friend dragging me and another off to fight Valstrax in a expedition way too early and us just throwing ourselves at it until it died.

Love the video and highlights my feelings perfectly. Though you didn't mention a few things I feel are relevant to Bazelgeuse and it's role as an invasive invader:
In Rise, Crimson Glow Valstrax now has its gimmick of dive bombing and attacking the player while they're hunting another monster while it's on the map. So that gimmick entirely gone from Rise, just stolen from Bazel and given to Valstrax.
Another piece of relevant info is that Seething can only be encountered in Elder's Recess. So not only did they kneecap Bazel in the transition to Iceborne Master Rank, it's locked to a single map, AND it's rare due to the influx of new monsters so you'd likely never really run into it unless you specifically wanted to hunt it.
But ya know, Banbaro of all things being an invader on every map is A-okay.

  • @christopherreynolds7594

If I could change Bazel, I would one, script it to follow a monster's roar once per 10-15 minutes per monster. It would cause it to track but not overwhelmingly frequently or to the gameplay's detriment. Two, add passively dropping scales but considerably less frequently. It will keep you on edge without it being constantly on your mind. And three, make the nut timer significantly longer while not in the enraged state. Maybe tone down the range of the nut explosions though, but not a ton.
One of the real identity maker of Bazel is when he's been flooding the area with nuts for a good 30 seconds straight, then once one bomb goes off, half the area is turned into explosive dominoes. That would be fun for an encounter. You would need to take a leap of faith or find a clear area as nut after nut blow up. I sure hope seething Bazel will have more personality and shows more aggression warranted for a monster called "Seething" Bazelgeuse. At the very least reintroduce passive nut drops to some extent.

I feel like the reason Bazel lost its invader status in Rise (I know seething didn't invade in Iceborne, I'm just talking about Bazel prime) was because *technically* every monster in the map is an invader now, because of wyvern riding, at some point in a hunt, every monster in the map will intrude on your hunt to hit, or get hit, and give you a wyvern ride. And like, sure it's fun and big spectacle to ride the monkey and hyperbeam the fuck out of a rathalos, but man I do miss that "oh shit" moment when Bazel or Jho or Banbaro would show up to your hunt and just start attacking anything with a pulse.

My biggest problem with Bazel in Rise is, that, even though he no longer drops the nuts at random times, the patterns are on the contrary not random and can be pretty difficult to punish in melee.
It also moves a lot more. Not running around or something but those smaller movements of its bodyparts.

  • @mikeb3735

I will say that I like Bazels Rise fight ok, because attacks were sped up and diversified enough that he feels like he's actually trying to hit the hunter while also spreading scales in case he misses, as opposed to doing the moves and just hoping that the scales hit something while expecting the attack itself to miss completely. I would kind of like to see them switch up the bomb placement so that some moves do scatter bombs randomly and others are more consistent patterns.
I absolutely miss the invader part of him though, and its a shame that its only really present with HR World Bazel. Something that would have been neat to do to keep that aspect alive in Rise is make it so that his attacks aren't as likely to make the target rideable, and other monster attacks don't make him rideable very easily. Basically leave it up to the hunter to make him rideable.

To be honest, I think monsters having variable Wyvern Ride thresholds in Rise would have done Bazel good, and maybe having him be a special case in that he doesn't directly target other monsters, but rather targets the player, but his scales can still catch the other monsters simply by chance and make them rideable anyway. Then crank Bazel's ride threshold up so he can still be ridden, but not nearly as easily or often, but at the same time make it so he usually happens to just stumble into fights by chance. That way he's definitely still an invader, but maybe not nearly as oppressive as he was in World. He can still certainly mess things up, but not to such an infuriating degree. So he still has his identity as the monster that dive bombs into your face mid-fight, but it is still possible to take advantage of him if you have, say, a puppet spider on you. That way he's just as likely to help you as he is to massively screw you over.

The only critique I have with this video is how you viewed his most dangerous and signature attack: the bombing run. At first it was really threatening when you didn't know what was happening and kinda just running in panic, until you got absolutely bodied by his final divebomb. But after that it was kinda... easy. All of his scales during this attack dropped down directly below him, and he flew over at a pretty slow pace.
That's where Rise comes in. Ironically, the one attack with a more static and scripted pattern in World became completely unpredictable and MUCH quicker. Sure, all of his other attacks have completely surrendered their element of luck, yet the divebomb was the one attack that GAINED this unpredictability, which made it substantially more difficicult in my opinion. You really did this attack dirty by just completely glossing over it in Rise. It's his singature attack! The rest I do agree with though, he's really fallen from grace.
Here's to hoping Seething will be a blast in the new update (pun intended ofcourse :D)

This video just feels like a sh*tpost of someone who is salty about bazel not beeing insanly easy for ranged weapons anymore.
1."The ranged hitzones got nerfed": Ranged weapons after the hitzone nerfs are still the highst dps weapons in the game for absolutly no reason....they just get to have the most damage for free compared to all other weapons (including LS), so please stop the whining already.
2."His fight didn't change much":.......Almost every single one of his moves got augmented and changed a little: Face drag now puts out bombs first, charge sends scales flying to the side, bombing run spreads out the scales instead of the just falling down in a straight line and they explode by impact shortly after and so on. They even changed the music up a bit for crying out loud. Here is a not really, kinda paradox: The fight only changed a little, but it has changed a lot for the worse.....like you didn't count the new patterns for pretty much every move as a huge change, but you did mention it when complaining that it made the fight more difficult for ranged weapons...like wtf. "The biggest change was his hitzones" my a**. Also the explosions are like maybe 50% bigger....
3."He drops less random bombs"......nope... he actually drops no random bombs. All of the bombs now fall in learnable patterns for each attack. Which is great for slower and melee weapons, since doing a Hammer, GS, SA, etc. swing only for a bomb to drop that you couldn't predict since it was random and you cant do anything about it since you're mid swing, didn't feel good at all. Getting screwed over by RNG doesn't feel good, nor does it make for a more enjoyable fight. But i guess if you play ranged weapons you never really had to worry about the random drops.
4."It feels like nowhere is safe" and "shouldn't piercing be good":....to the first one....that's how all melee weapons felt in base world and changing the fight so bazel isn't a complete pushover for ranged weapons like it was in world is a good thing...he still isn't really a difficult fight. Piercing is still good....but you can't just stand 30km away and just keep shooting him to kill him in less than a minute anymore....which is a good thing.
    5. "They ruined the surprise".....no they didn't. Monsters don't invade anymore in rise, so it was either tell the player there is a quest or have the player see him on the map. The fact that it sucks for him that invading doesn't exist in this game is pretty much the only thing i agree with in this video. But to be fair Iceborne was the game that removed bazel's invading first.
    6. "People hated bazel because of the charges".....the 2 charges he had......and here i thought it was because 99% of hunts had an invader and before jho came bazel was the only one...
Bonus round: The bombing run was the least threatining move in mhw, since you could just stand there, watch him fly "constanly" *cough twice cough* over you and then superman dive and the "side walk" which he pretty much only ever used when you were directly infront of him was the hardest move to doge, since it had by far the shortest telegraph. The bombing run was only ever threatining if you were fighting another monster.
"We are not her to complain how easy or hard the fight is, but we do want to hightlight the noticable changes"....considering that you spent more time complaining about the hitzones and gloss over the actual change to each move in rise....yeah press X to doubt.
Like at the end you say that his fight is "worse now because 1. Hitzone changes 2. heated hitzone changes and 3. annoying changes to the scales" which perfectly sums up this video: 2/3 complaining about gunner changes, 1/3 glossing over the actual fight changes and calling it worse......

The first time me and my brother met Bazel we were fresh into high rank and were going after a barroth on an expedition when suddenly that thing came crashing down with introduction screen saying Bazelgeuse we thought we gonna have a go at it until we realized it is an Deviljho equivalent but we managed to cut its tail atleast but that was also the only time he proved to be a , problem" for us after that we had him down as an rather easy money grab and often hunted him before the actual target

I'm pretty sure invasion monsters in general no longer exist in Rise, for the reasons specified in the video. It would clash too much with the riding mechanic.

Also, and this is a criticism for ALL monsters in rise: its ALWAYS enraged. Even when it un enrages or gets knocked out of it, it usually takes like all of 5 seconds for it to re enrage. Whats the point of seperate states if its irrelevant and its in one state 99.99% of the fight

I freaking love Bazelgeuse, his Weapons, Armor, his theme, just about everything about him in World, but, then, Iceborne came. Seething Bazelgeuse, honestly seemed.....tame in comparison to his original form & even in Rise, he seemed trivial, I get that a player can get better and the challenge is lost but, Bazelgeuse should have been on a level like Deviljho, which sadly he isn't.

Deviljho got pretty easy quickly tho. He has such a huge weak spot and many moves that leaves him wide open

@@ThatsOk83 World was, sort of my 1st Monster Hunter, I have no idea when Deviljho was added, but damn, some of his attacks, I could not get away from at all. I ended up using him as CB Blocking practice, that Guard Point thing I think it's called, got really good at it for awhile, especially against Deviljho, his gear is freaking cool though, shame the Weapons all have negative Crit.

I love Bazelgeuse I think he's one of the best monsters of 5th gen and I wish they hadn't nuterd his Invader status so much,
In base world if he just didn't show up in littery every high rank quest and it was more random I think it would have been better,
I love seething but I hate how he had his Invader status taken from while monsters like banbaro and fulger have no business being Invaders
As for rise yeah I like the fireball but they failed to keep the surprise and made the fight a little bit more annoying with the wonky scale hitboxes
Let's hope MH6 can get the balance right

Bazel is a fight that I like in both, but rise really doesn't leave the same impression. I really like the idea of bazel dropping random bombs because that mirrors the carpet bombers he's based on, tho what I wish for seething is that they took the concept of bazel and, instead of adding fewer, but more powerful and controlled bombs, the same size of bombs but more. It would make much more sense for the concept of "seething" to be angry, frantic, and dropping as many scales as possible to blow you off the face of the Earth. If seething dropped even just as many scales as bazel with his current explosion radius, that would be great. I like the invasion, I like the hectic randomness, and I think having more monsters do that would be perfect. In rise, he could even have the mechanic that valstrax has. Imagine if they did this: they completely hide the bazelguese quest as a quest for something small, say an izuchi or Arzuros, you get in the hunt and track the monster, but there are only 2 monsters listed in the locale so there's not even a question mark, you get to the monster, start hunting it, but as soon as it enrages you hear the music change to the bazel theme (rise's take on the theme is great imo), then it says ??? Ambush. Bazel drops on you in time with the music like world, target changes, bazel hunt. Then from there he ambushes like valstrax does in normal hunts with the same mechanic and gives you a wyvern ride, but unlike valstrax can hurt you as well with the crash (I still think valstrax's ambush shoud hurt the player if they don't dodge it since it's announced).

I miss monsters invading your fights. Hope they add that in rise sunbreak even if it's late already. There are too many things i was hoping they'd include even if it's late. Like that monster flashbanging you, the pickle, and that monster with a sword tail that i forgot the name, and that bulldrome. I just want to see players being trolled by monsters.

Idk, I think bazel is infinitely more enjoyable as a hunt in Rise than World/Iceborne. I dreaded having to fight it for crafting stuff in those games because it was obnoxious at the best of times, whereas after my first hunt of it in Rise I immediately went back for more because the set was good and the fight was much more fun. The loss of invaders is a bit of a bummer, but I'm fine with losing invader bazel if I get a hunt that I can actually enjoy

yeah the random bomb drops were terrifying for melee, oh you hit him once? guess he will drop bombs, BAM! Being able to see regular patterns makes the fight more of a fight rather than a slot machine just waiting to get jackpot out of you rather than it.

I like Bezelgeuse and I used to bring dung pods to quests. There was time all 4 four of us had dungpods and shot at geuse, and one guy f*cked it up by shooting the target monster too. So they're both waiting in the next area.

The first time I carted to Bazelgeuce it wasn’t even around to see me go. I was in the Coral Highlands, probably on an expedition for the pink Rathian investigation, when I come across some black thing sticking out of the ground. I hit it with my charge blade, it turns orange, and I’m back at camp, wondering what I just did. I don’t think I’ve seen a single random scale dealing with Seething and Rise bagel, which kind of sucks. I want the random land mines back.
The point about Wyvern Riding makes a lot of sense. If Bagel invaded like base World, you would just get ridiculous damage on both monsters no problem and nothing would change in the hunt. (2 topples on top of significant damage is a LOT) I miss the invaders that I knew in World, they caused so many problems that were very fun to fight off. I know dung and flash pods exist, but I prefer just not using them. That 9 star double tempered bazel quest was one of my favorites for the craziness it brought.
