The use case that most enjoy with the Fold is for people who want a tablet that fits in your pocket. I use mine for 3D modeling and sketching plans for my woodworking projects. It supports tablet versions of Android apps which is very powerful to have in your pocket rather than previously in a purse or backpack. And the fact that the screen is not widescreen when opened is actually a benefit if you've ever used one, because it is one hand holdable allowing your free hand to use a stylus instead of having to be sitting down at a table to use your tablet effectively. That cover screen does make more sense than the ZFlip, especially for the camera. On the ZFlip, the cover screen aspect ratio is rotated, so any camera previews shown on it get cropped pretty badly.
Imo the outer screen on the z flip is more practical. I mean why would you want another big screen on the outside? The outer screen on z flip does most basic functions of showing time, weather setting up alarms etc without opening up the phone which also helps in minimising phone usage.
@@MayankGupta-th3wt oppo's one does the exact same in a larger screen. So tell why won't you want a larger outer display which is actually more functional while taking flex form images?
@@dragonforcegaming7555 The difference is that the outer screen is basically another home screen where you can use many apps unlike the z flip one which only provides basic features. It's not creating a layer between the user and the phone like the z flip like some people would want from a feature like this.
@@MayankGupta-th3wt you cannot use any apps on the outer screen on the oppo one. Its just limited to some widgets. Whereas in Z flip you can even run Instagram on that tiny display if you want to. So, if I portray it your way, oppo is creating a better distance between the phone and the user as compared to Samsung.
I feel like you keep forgetting that women's pockets are frequently too small/shallow to hold a normal smartphone. With a flip phone like this, all of a sudden a phone with a large display is actually pocket-able.
As an electrician my job involves climbing around in high places or through narrow spaces some times, so if you like having a bigger phone screen but your job or activities risk a big phone getting damaged in your pocket like I do these are a pretty good solution. As an alternative to the flexing screen fold though I think two screens that come together with minimal or no line in the middle might work too. Kind of like how you can hold two pieces to a cracked mirror together and make the line disappear. That but smooth and what ever type of hinge would work.
The idea of the front screen is so that you _don't_ use the main screen too often, and yes that means this makes more sense for those kind of people who wants less screen time in general.
@@kthec1298 you see, the main screen are where the apps are. mainly apps that could be distractions. i'll often find myself checking my texts and easily go into "well let me check my emails and my facebook and my discord and--" etc. if i'm able to just see a text message and put the phone back down that does reduce my screen time.
during the first 60 seconds, i was entirely fixated on the wallpaper of the computer in the background ... it is ... marvelous and i want it. Genius, even
The only advantage I see over Z Flip is the larger screen on back giving a better camera preview. As a manager who has to do constant video calls, having a Z Flip has been incredible as I don't always need to ludge my laptop around to a random room and prop it somewhere for best angle - instead I can just prop my Z Flip on any small surface at height of my head and have easy video call. And this is where Z Flip is better than Oppo, the hinge is stiff all the way. I have had video calls in my car, from a shelf, from a closet, from a surface above me.
So I've been using the Flip 3 for awhile, and I do have to say there are some things I like about Oppo's design here. The rubber bezels seem to be designed to eliminate the huge gaps that the Flip series have which lets *soooo* much dust get in and dirty up the screen. And while I don't necessarily think the external display needs to be that much larger, I will say that the portrait layout they opted for is much better, as it lines up more naturally with the internal display and means that you get a more accurate representation of what you are shooting. I tended to find with the Flip 3 that the external display would cut off what was actually being captured because when you held the phone on portrait, it would be displaying in landscape, and vice-versa. On a different note, when you were shooting with both displays active, it weirdly looked like the editors had gone in and superimposed the image onto the external dispaly. The external display seems to pop in a way which makes it seem like not a part of the phone.
This has probably already been brought up, but I don't have time to read all comments.. but in case it hasn't. My wife always complains about her small pockets... girls and women's clothes on average are waaaay smaller, so I could see the benefit of a fold/flip.. even if it's a bit bulkier, it will still fit without the top sticking out.
The choice that clothing designers made to encourage the use of handbags for women. It's quite infuriating when you don't want to carry a handbag around everywhere you go when the only things you use are your small wallet and your phone which can't even fit in pockets.
I love the idea of using this phone like a Game Boy Advance SP with half of the screen covered by controller hardware... I guess using half of the screen for touch controls instead of hardware is more convenient, especially if you don't wanna carry around extra hardware.
14:25 This feature has actually existed on Samsung phones for a while (and on desktop computers for decades). You get to allocate some storage to be used as swap space, so that apps don't fully close when the physical RAM of the phone runs out.
I had the second gen Motorola Flip, and I liked it. It gave off some pretty cool classic flip vibes and it was built like a tank. The screen was nice, the OS was nice, the front display was great. This is the first one I've seen that actually might beat that. Pity this isn't a North American phone, I'd try it out.
Nice thing about the Moto flip is that it has their desktop interface, Ready For, which you can access by plugging the phone into a monitor or wirelessly. The Samsung Flip does not include their desktop UI, DeX, for ... reasons. The Moto allows you to walk around with a minuscule "desktop" in your pocket.
@@jubuttib But it, like all Motorola's, is made to work in NA out of the box, most of those Chinese phones MIGHT work, but there's no guaranty. I remember getting the original POCO phone, the one with the flagship chipset at the time, and finding it didn't work with any NA carrier. Great phone, totally useless.
I just want a foldable to be brave enough to ditch the outside screen entirely. The absolute best would be replacing it with an e-ink display imo. Enough to show the time and some notifications, but not nearly the power draw of the entire external LCD or OLED.
Honestly, I think the Z Fold is a much better use of foldable display tech. The benefit of folding phones like this is that they fit in small pockets better. Wear women's clothes and you'll see very quickly how useful a smaller device is.
@@MarisaClardy I suppose that is one objective benefit. But asking my wife, (which at this point is a subjective thing to do on my side, admittedly) she would rather have a larger display phone in her purse. So it comes down to the person when it comes to pocket carry or purses. I still stand by the benefit of a foldable that is fully functional opened or closed and that offers a hybrid phone/tablet experience is more beneficial than folding it smaller with less functionality just to fit in some pockets. Personally, I think the Z Fold 4 is almost the perfect size device, it is narrow enough when folded to fit in anywhere a candy bar phone should fit (modern car phone slots, for example), It has the hinge feature for sitting it at any angle using either the front facing or rear facing cameras, when open it is still one hand holdable and not only accepts the stylus but the OS has special stylus features that are usually only found on Android tablet devices, and the user has the option to use two different home-layout profiles for "phone" and "tablet" modes which leverages more functional flexibility rather than trying to force the user into one hybrid layout interface which in other devices in the past has been a disappointing experience (older version of Note sized devices). I do think there's room for both, but I would be lying if I said that both offer the same level of innovation and future potential for changing the game. Recently Samsung Display had a showcase of research and development folding and "stretching" displays of all sizes and variations, which most took the Z Fold approach of extending the displays instead of collapsing them. Some of these showcases could very well end up becoming actual products. So at the end of the day, I am just trying to say that I find this much more exciting for tech than a Flip style display that doesn't offer anything new other than fitting into some smaller pockets. (I'm still glad the Flip exists; more options are always better than just a few).
I like the fold just because it would fit in my pocket better. Most phone companies seem to think slim and long is what we want but I want a medium sized phone that fits in my pocket, and if you need more battery just make it thicker not longer
The crease is the biggest thing that turns me away from folding phones but I gotta say they've come a long way with it. It's getting harder and harder to notice with each gen now, and that's for all the ODMs doing folding phones.
As a proud Flip3 owner, it's not about the practicality of owning a flip phone. It's about reliving the feeling of owning a Gameboy SP, and nothing else.
I have the Samsung Flip 4. The hinge retains position more than this one so its easier to put it down and take pictures but would really like to have that bigger screen outside to take better pictures since you can now see the whole scene your phone is trying to capture.
I think i would be more annoyed with only having the widgets on the bigger screen (except for the camera) than I'm now with my flip4. I mainly use the screen to control my music or take a quick look at notifications.
@Kayl Snow true enough. From a 16:9 ratio to a 4:3 when you bend the hinge with the flip doesn't actually look good but useable in some use case. Could use more ideas on that size
@apR i use it mostly like that too when I'm not taking photos. I added controls for my galaxy buds there though. When I'm lying in bed and listening to music, i don't want its touch controls turned on so I change its setting using the widget
Women are really into this form factor, especially in Asia. It's compact, easy to put in the pants pockets, easy to customize to make it looks cute. The biggest issue that may benefit from this form factor is that women clothes tend to have the small, nearly useless size of pockets. This is the form factor that doesn't sacrifice the big screen for the smaller overall size. And sometimes, when I don't understand something, I don't say things that feel like it's stupid. I found the regular form factor phone is unnecessary big, but I don't think it's stupid or anything.
I think something neat would be some sort of micro phone (not microphone). Small form factor with less focus on screen quality but more on good utility for say music and light googling… yeah I realise that that’s just an iPod.
This form factor makes sense for me because I am 163 cm / 5.4' . So today normal size phone are to big to keep in my pocket because is like half of my leg and it is uncomfortable. However when you fold de phone, even though, it is thinker. it is smaller in lenght and suits better in my pocket. I have the samsung flip 3, and I love it. I just would like a better camera. but everything else it is great for me.
I have the Z Flip 4 for my work phone and it’s really nice cuz I talk on the phone a lot. It’s also nice to keep personal and work stuff separate when it’s closed. I have to carry 2 phones and having one be super compact is really nice. Also helpful when I need to get a flashlight in a weird spot cuz I can prop it up and use the flashlight in weird places.
Lost credibility when you said “sponsored”. I thought LMG only accepted sponsors they legitimately liked. He literally started the video stating his dislike for the form factor.
i honestly love my z flip 3 and am sold on this form factory. I'm glad to see more phones coming out like this. I'm hoping I don't need another phone for at least another year or 2 more tho and by then I'm hoping for a pretty big upgrade. Tho if I was just getting into a folding phone, I would definitely be looking at this.
So the little screen on the front is great if your doing things at work and listening to earbuds and just need to skip to the next song, Or pause something, It'll also consume less battery doing things like that on the little screen than it will opening it, Bringing up the main display etc.
8:23 Im definitely getting one once they improve the screen into some sorta glass mix..The flip phone is a throwback to the past in modern times. Also with a phone like that if the phone falls the screen doesn't break.
The mini screen is probably nice for checking notifications while reducing the frequency of flipping the phone open, which might converse the longevity of the hardware
Are there any charging cable videos planned? It's so hard to find a good cable and power brick. Can't find any trusted youtubers who recommend a charging solution.
Figure the 'outside' screen will display text messages, or alert you of who's calling, and you can decide whether to ignore, or flip it open to respond?
I'd prefer a Flip 4 over this one though. The Flip 4, and for the most parts the Flip 3, look more refined than Oppos take on the Flip. But it still looks like a great phone, I hope Oppo keeps it Flips alive. Competition is the main driving factor for innovation.
I would have liked to see how the shell handled the flip, and if that would get stuck while you put it down or take it out of your pocket. Also I would like to see test on how the folding screen handles being folded after a 5 minute long phonecall at -20°C. I have a feeling the risk of cracking it increases with lower temps!
2n winter with my fold3, live in Scandinavia and our winters can be rough. I am also outside regarding my work as agricultural contractor and im doing alot of snow clearing etc. My folds durability surprised me tbh. The innenscreen did start to slip and get airbubbles after a 10-11months. As nearly all do apparently. Few months later i removed the innerscreen screen plastic cover. That was around last autumn. Ive a lil crack/tear just where it folds together but ill get it covered with insurances so not worried but otherwise its been a good phone for me and no other issues with the folding action
I'm another person that doesn't really understand the flip form factor. The fold form factor makes far more sense to me since it's actually usable when folded and unfolding it provides extra screen, though this design also still needs a lot of refinement before I would even dream of adopting it.
It's just another shiny thing to dazzle gullible consumers with. "Hello there, our beloved consumer worm, you already have a perfectly fine and durable phone but do you want to spend money needlessly on another phone that... FOLDS!?! OMG RIGHT?!? Please please please buy it our sales are down double digits, we beg you!"
In my opinion, for the majority of people the bigger screen of a fold offers no extra utility that they'd actually use. If course it can be very useful for some people, but I'm skeptical as to how many people that actually applies to
I'm pretty sure the appeal is 1/3 people with small pockets, 1/3 "folding phone = cool" while being cheaper than a real folding phone, and 1/3 nostalgia for old folding phones ("whoa I can hang up on people by slapping my phone closed like I used to!"). Other than that they don't have much of a purpose.
I'd love to have this since I need a small phone that stores easy when I ride my bike. Was thinking of going back to a basic flip phone but this would let me keep normal features.
If they ever get the screen and hinge down pat without compromise I'm absolutely up to get a flip phone. The size of the front screen on here particularly seems like it'd be useful to check on stuff without opening your phone. I tend to leave my phone screen down when it's not in my pockets anyway so this seems nice. Kinda like having a smart watch without looking like a douche.
Sadly Fold isn't available here in the States, and my friend had to ship one overseas. The system is way more refined comparing to Samsung's. You can continue using the app from outer screen to inner screen, where Samsung wants you to relaunch the app pretty much every time.

Oppo as always has the advantage in technological innovation but no one will buy it, in 3 years all brands will have this exact design and Apple will say they created it.
The back screen misses the point of having a small screen on the back. You don't need a giant screen. You want to be able to see notification and quick controls for music. It wastes battery which the battery is already compromised with flip phones.
Ooops, prices will be about 300 euro more than the Samsung Flip 4 (prices are now on the Oppo EU website). Start price is 1099,90. Although 1100 euro is the same release price as the Samsung Flip 4 half a year ago, the Samsung can now be had for around 800 euro. Good luck with that, Oppo...
The ram expander thing is NOT a feature and is just called a swap file and it would be really nice if you called people out on that. This function has existed on Linux, windows, MacOS and android (iOS probably too) for years. It is also on every Android phone WITHOUT that "feature". (It was invented in the 1960s, look up memory paging).
I would find it awesome if it had a dedicated physical camera button and the outside screen was on the side opposite the camera module, that way it would be the perfect device to take in-the-moment photos without any unnecessary distractions.

I have fold 4 and I like it. This phone is interesting , I hope the flip 5 will increase the outside screen just a little bit like this one.
The idea of the front screen is so that you _don't_ use the main screen too often, and yes that means this makes more sense for those kind of people who wants less screen time in general.
less screentime by loking on a smaler screen ?
more like checking your masages without opening the phone
@@kthec1298 you see, the main screen are where the apps are. mainly apps that could be distractions. i'll often find myself checking my texts and easily go into "well let me check my emails and my facebook and my discord and--" etc. if i'm able to just see a text message and put the phone back down that does reduce my screen time.
“Oppo sponsored this video” That’s all I have to hear.
I actually like the idea to have a trashable screen on the outside usable for most small things and keep the main one pristine.
If only you could use the outside screen like a regular phone

It is readily available on the internet. Just have a look.
He changed his mind in a sponsored video? What a wonderful conscience!
16:10 Here, you can see Riley has never had to deal with women's size pockets.
And why would you think a twice as thick phone would fit?
The only advantage I see over Z Flip is the larger screen on back giving a better camera preview. As a manager who has to do constant video calls, having a Z Flip has been incredible as I don't always need to ludge my laptop around to a random room and prop it somewhere for best angle - instead I can just prop my Z Flip on any small surface at height of my head and have easy video call.
And this is where Z Flip is better than Oppo, the hinge is stiff all the way. I have had video calls in my car, from a shelf, from a closet, from a surface above me.
The other way around. The only advantage of the z flip is the stiffer hinge.
I think the camera may be better as well, which was the main reason I haven't jumped ship to the flip.
@@astroch That's what they said.
You could say that you flipped your opinion!
I love my z fold 4 so excited to see Foldables become more mainstream

Of the two top holes, the smaller one of them is the 2nd microphone and the larger hole is the 2nd speaker. It has dual stereo with 50 50 separation.
The phone wallpaper unfolding every time he opens the phone was mesmerizing
My toxic trait is I would immediately start using it like a fidget toy and wear out the hinge much faster than it's meant to.
Trousers/pants are men's attire so, if women want to copy men, they have deal with the consequences.
He said this is the first time he's witnessing it. He didn't say this is the first phone to have this......
@@dragonforcegaming7555 Yeah, and I'm just giving some extra info for those interested. I didn't say that he said it's the first phone to have this.
15:19 girls' jeans usually don't have super wide pockets like ours, so that is why this form factor is loved.
I mean Motorola is also owned by Liánxiǎng a.k.a. Lenovo, so it's only kinda North American...
@@dragon2knight entirely fair. =)
I just want a foldable to be brave enough to ditch the outside screen entirely. The absolute best would be replacing it with an e-ink display imo. Enough to show the time and some notifications, but not nearly the power draw of the entire external LCD or OLED.
Nah we wanna be able to answer texts on the front display and access the home screen
@@KizzMyAbs You might want that. I don't see the need for it. I would rather save the battery life since I would just be unfolding it anyways.
when apple invent their own version of flip phone, this guy suddenly gonna love this form factor...trust me
"I'm more of a text guy" Does this mean you're more text-linked, Riley?
... I'll get my jacket.
The outer screen is great for when you want just peak at a notification without interacting with it.
I think every China-Phonevideo should mention the data collection thing that goes directly to the Chineese government...
Honestly, I think the Z Fold is a much better use of foldable display tech. When closed it is a full fledged candy bar phone, fits in your pocket, has front facing and rear facing cameras, etc. And when opened, not only is the screen huge, but the OS behaves like an Android tablet, supporting tablet versions of applications that can toggle effortlessly between opened and closed and some supporting partially open "dual screen" layouts. I loved classic flip phones in the early 2000s but I see no objective benefit to folding a candy bar phone in half. I would rather flip a candy bar open to twice the screen size.
No benefit, what are you on about? 🤦🏻♂️
@@MarisaClardy but small pockets are also limited in depth.
So I doubt that this phone would fit in most small pockets just because it's to thick.
I’m so tempted by a flip but atm I know it’s largely because of the novelty and still not happy enough with the crease
15:55 Flippy people UNITE ✊🙌
I honestly prefer the look of the Z Flip over this Oppo Flip. The Oppo Flip looks like a toy almost. I also dislike that cover screen.
Sponsors can change people's mind
I like the fold just because it would fit in my pocket better. Most phone companies seem to think slim and long is what we want but I want a medium sized phone that fits in my pocket, and if you need more battery just make it thicker not longer
The crease is the biggest thing that turns me away from folding phones but I gotta say they've come a long way with it. It's getting harder and harder to notice with each gen now, and that's for all the ODMs doing folding phones.
As an owner of the original Z Flip, that should be the least of your worries. The battery life and soft screen are the real drawbacks.
The major thing that the z fold 4 have over this is software optimization for this type of foldables
"But....as Oppo paid me, I love it" please 🤣🤣
"I don't like flip phones... Unless they pay me enough"
As for the ram, it's the other way around. You utilize some of the storage to get more working memory when needed at high load
This looks like the first flip phone that’s actually interesting
why square is better Riley? because square is stronger if you sit, and or put other stuff on the pocket.
This could replace my first generation Samsung Z Flip. I rather have a thicker, but short phone in my pocket, than a thin long one.
15:43 maybe the next linus rig reaction video should be the one on the short circuit set because wow that's some bad cable management

Riley isn’t a fan of the flip form factor... Let's see if a sponsored video will change his mind!
Sheeesh 3.5" front screen... Remembering a time when phones had only 1 display and it was 3.5"
I just want a phone that I can use in phone mode and unfold into a 83" TV :D
Riley throughout the whole video
Riley: *uncomfortably searching for good things to talk about this phone because its a sponsored video*
Using storage as ram is always bad, I know storage is much faster than back in the day, but I can't imagine that's good for the ssd
I was thinking that too. Especially since phones use emmc which is just sd card flash which isn't as robust as normal ssd flash.
8:23 Im definitely getting one once they improve the screen into some sorta glass mix..The flip phone is a throwback to the past in modern times. Also with a phone like that if the phone falls the screen doesn't break.
I believe it's using the same UTG as the Flip
Riley's chaotic energy is something we all need in our daily lives.
3:52 Crazy that this is not that much smaller than the MAIN display on the original iPhone, and now it's a secondary display.
The mini screen is probably nice for checking notifications while reducing the frequency of flipping the phone open, which might converse the longevity of the hardware
The front screen is for glancing... Is the thing important, or can I keep doing what I'm doing? At least, that is what I use it for.
Riley just makes me happy, man. I don't care about this phone but I love me some Riley.

The front display is 0.3 inches smaller that the screen on the original iPhone.
12:44 you know the amazing thing about this?? It forces folks to record in landscape and not vertical!!!!
I like it because it will fit in pockets better. Girl pants pockets are small.
You can continue using the app from outer screen to inner screen, where Samsung wants you to relaunch the app pretty much every time.
.... That's totally wrong.
Dude, people dont know yet, but OPPO hardware and software, shits on Samsung.... I had a Samsung, now i have OPPO, 0 regreats especially in performance.
You have a screen large enough to use the 50MP main shooter for selfies, but they still have apunch hole camera...
The Flip phones make more sense to me. It allows you to have a normal sized phone in a small form factor
Riley can never play a villain in a movie, he’ll be giggling the whole time
Think I'd still rather a Z Flip, but I'd have to see/hold it to know for sure
Also Samsung has good, reliable software updates. Oppo/OnePlus is the absolute opposite of that
@@slimii275 that combined with never having a bad experience with a Samsung phone/product makes me lean towards a Z Flip. as someone who has looked into that tiny palm phone a while back to try and have a more minimalistic experience, i could honestly see myself using the smaller screen when folded to do what i need to do and continue on with my life so i dont get suckered into other stuff. also, with a screen like that, being able to take selfies with the big cameras? oh heck yes.
The appeal of a vertically folding phone is a smaller footprint
Oppo as always has the advantage in technological innovation but no one will buy it, in 3 years all brands will have this exact design and Apple will say they created it.
What is the innovation that Oppo has here? Cuz Samsung definitely did this flip tech first and Z Flip has better software and hardware atm
Some people like big phone. But pants pocket are getting smaller and smaller, even on men pants.

Looks pretty nice IMO
I would find it awesome if it had a dedicated physical camera button and the outside screen was on the side opposite the camera module, that way it would be the perfect device to take in-the-moment photos without any unnecessary distractions.
