Well, we all know Plouffe loves keyboards, but did you know that he loves BRICKS too? Yeah, I don't think we can say that word here in the description either. Anyways, Melgeek is here with a new brick-compatible keyboard that means you can fully customize it with the old toys you've had since you were a kid. Let's see if it's any good!

If someone wonders: LEGO is known for sending cease and desist letters to RUclipsrs who call plastic bricks 'Legos' if they are not made by Lego. Even if the term 'Lego' is widely used for plastic bricks in general.
Understandable there's a lot of inferior product around that doesn't deserve to even be in the same world as Lego.
@@batt3ryac1d Many off-brand bricks are actually the same if not better quality than the ones from LEGO®. And don't get me started on the prices...
He should have done like JerryRigEverything and say "these bricks are similar to, but legally distinct from, little legos"
They had to do that to prevent losing their trademark.
@@Sassi7997 that's so not true I've never found an off brand brock that was even in the same universe. The price is quite expensive though on licensed sets.
How will I be able to type with my feet now.......
Ouch
With bricks
A simple angle piece or headlight mounting piece could secure the dongle down
Also, missed a brick on the counter at 8:20!
I noticed that too. Came down to the comments to see if anyone had mentioned it.
@@jobeall5078 same lol
Just so others are aware there's another Lego keyboard that I greatly prefer and doesn't have such goofy features, called the Kit Adam from KBD Craft
and it only costs 100$
@Bartosz Ambroziak It's $60, actually. And I personally think way cooler than this one, as it's actually built from bricks. They even sell the PCB and plate separately (and provide instructions and part lists online) so you can make your own case from genuine Lego bricks.
@@jomeyqmalone true but when I said 100$ I meant for the full kit with switches an keycaps, the verb one kit costs 60$
@@jomeyqmalone depends if you go barebones or complete.. Adding decent switches and keycaps for 40 is fair, but.. Just fair.
Plouffe actually owns the Adam and built it on his stream a couple weeks ago. Check out his twitch fresh_fisher_fred to watch it.
Had to tap out at 21 bricks
8:20 missed a "Brick" there :D
I love it when they can't say what it is...at first 🤣 This looks pretty cool to play around with, finally a keyboard I actually want to build! Nice work presenting this Plouffe, there was a ton of stuff to unbox!!
They could 100% say what it is. Saying that something that is Lego is Lego is completely fine, however if they referred to the keyboard as Lego, they could be in hot water.
They ARE saying what it is.
Check out his stream where he built a legoish keyboard.
@@timnackson will the Danish army attack ?
4:37 It's not WiFi, it's just wireless via dongle.
Awesome keyboard.
Isn't the Adam Keyboard the first "brick compatible keyboard" or did this one actually come out first?
The adam is lol
The Adam is what this keyboard wishes it was
I thought this kind was a silly idea at first but it’s really growing on me. Especially how you can easily use it as a secondary keyboard with clear keycaps that are bound to macro or something.
I want this as a split board. Without the huge bezels (just 1 or 2 pins wide as opposed to 6), but with all the brickness and customizability for folks like me with limited desk space.
If there's any blank space on the split keyboard PCB, you could glue a few sacrificial Lego parts (e.g. flat 2×2 plates) to the underside of each one, then build off those?
@@wereoctopus That's certainly an option, at least while I don't know any better :) As well as just gluing them on the kb's case or, in case of making a plank yourself, designing the case already with pins (or "brick is glued here" spaces, knowing how tight the tolerances for the bricks are and how hard it is to meet them when 3d printing).
Combining this with [Redacted] technic you could probably make some really cool joysticks and stuff…
New fetish unlocked "I love (keyboard) feet" - Plouffe 2023
If i had the disposable income to buy a ton of "bricks" to customize that i would 100% get it. The customization options you can do are endless to make it fit a desk scheme, if only I was creative enough to set up a cool action scene or something lol.
Im surprised you havent checked out Kit Adam, its also a 'brick' inspired keyboard but the diffrence is that one you need to actually build it yourself
I think the Adam is actually a better 'Lego' keyboard. The whole point of Lego is to build and with the Adam you actually get to build it as well as customise it. It also sounds and looks better IMO
In Germany we call bricks "Klemmbausteine" and i think it's beautiful
This is great for fans of the brick motion picture. My favorite character is brick flying night mammal. This video should be sponsored by The Brick furniture store. It's a Canadian thing. Love the major league gaming switches.
If they just sell these keycaps with the printed art I’d definitely buy those
Imo, LTT should let the people that showcase stuff keep them for like a week and allow them to make videos on their own time if they want. When the ShortCircuit video releases, just link to that video!
I mean, come on, look at how excited Plouffe is here!
They probably need to send the products back and it wouldn't worth the effort anyway
I think I would enjoy that, especially with a product like this. Let the man play. I'd love to see what the creative people on their team do with the customizable features this keyboard has.
They could call it "ClosedCircuit" :) for some more closing statements on the product, or maybe "OpenCircuit", to represent more open discussion on it
He actually owns a “brick” keyboard and built it on stream couple weeks ago.
@@muzlee7479 People will stop watching their content if they don't put in the effort.
@@Kaizen47 and arr they not putting in the effort?
Maybe you guys should've gotten the "brick" company to sponsor this video so you could say it's name
its more that lego will sue anybody who calls non lego branded legos, legos. so it wouldnt matter as the product is not lego brand
It would be a shame if I try to update te firmware and BRICK my keyboard 😂
Got'em!
Might have to LE GO of it then
So if the firmware bricks the keyboard, is that a positive or negative?
You can always brick the keyboard 😎
yes
@@averyj.steele1074 this was the response I was hoping for!
Seems like if you wanted to, you could change the height of each key by using a one flat thick brick. So you could make the keys some white contour however, you like them. At the very least, you could have them accelerate up in separate, or, you can alternate Heights between columns as an example.
You heard it first here folks: "I love keyboard feet" - Plouffe 2023
i totally want to see Plouffe do a full [ B R I C C ] build with this [ B R I C C ] keyboard
shame that the [ B R I C C ] doesn't let you add more functional modules like extra Numberpads or knobs, etc
Check out his twitch and you can watch him build the Adam which is another brick type keyboard. fresh_fisher_fred
I just have to say that I dealt with this company as they were starting up and finishing the kickstarter for this keyboard. I cancelled my backing because they were taking advantage of their fans by running a "giveaway" which they then proceeded to cancel last second before then backtracking and completely changing the rules and.... well the story is long.
TL/DR: awful company, cool product
Just a heads up, this isn't the world's *first* "brick" compatible keyboard. The i-Rocks K76m Fun had a compatible faceplate back in 2016 which is the earliest I know of, not sure if there were any others. Also used weird "alps inspired" switches that iirc had mx style stems but differently shaped housing and ended up being strange and not super alps-like.
gotta love how one company bricked this whole video. 😀
Hehe that's a nice idea, I have actually made a keyboard myself following JK Brickworks' design. He is a 'Brick' Masterbuilder and RUclipsr, and I followed his design to butcher . . eh I mean convert an old keyboard to a 'Brick' compatible one!! It was awful to type on, but a fun project nevertheless!!
What made it terrible?
@@GameTimeWhy It was clunky, every key was flat and the worst part was that the placement of the keys wasn't centred for every key, so you had quite a few missclicks on certain keys. The key actuators, were on a moving skeleton made of small beams and rotating Technic parts, you place this in the keyboard frame touching the membrane key spots and you placed the flat key parts on top of it, and due to Lego making parts that have very specific dimensions, you couldn't practically hit every membrane key spot. Some were off centre and you had to connect them loose to be on the correct spot. It was really fun to build though, just make sure you don't plan on using it as your daily driver XD
@@TidusfromZanarkand that sounds really fun to build and terrible to use. Thank you for sharing haha
@@GameTimeWhy Cheers mate
Would have been nice had Melgeek not screwed up the orders.
PSA I wouldn’t suggest buying this as Melgeek isn’t that trustworthy rn, the people who bought the board has had issues with their items and shipping issues.
its a nice novel gift idea for a [BRICK] fanatic but practically, that thing looks like its going to become a crud magnet
You're not a real computer nerd if you don't have crud in your keyboard ;p
Somehow this is the most innovation I've seen in a keyboard in a while.
The plastic interlocking bricks LEGO made technically no longer protected by copyright laws.
So you can 3D print those bricks. (Which is also why Megablocks and this keyboard exist)
But LEGO sets are still protected as those are creative properties.
And the LEGO name is a trademark, it's understandable they don't want you to call everything a LEGO... Just like not all supercars a Ferrari.
Same issue with brands that are used for all of the same things.
A cotton swab is known as a Q-Tip, which is a brand name. There are hundreds of manufacturers of cotton swabs, but they are all Q-Tips for the buyer.
@@Katojana legally, trademarks exist to protect consumers from inferior products. the more people use your brand to mean “a generic version that does the same thing” the less likely it is that the company can argue in court that me making briccs and calling them LEGO is actually tricking people into buying stuff from me instead of them. if everyone calls a bandage “band-aid”, that shows people don’t use the name to differentiate between manufacturers, so the trademark lost its purpose.
Guess somebody got BRICKED UP with this keyboard, specially had to point out his excitement on the variety of feets that he got.
That is such a freaking cool keyboard 😍 not sure about the practicality thou
It should come with those seperator tools that come with big lego kits.
Yes it should, they're hard to get off tbh
Darn, I wish you'd posted this vid a few weeks ago, when I was looking for a new keyboard 😞Love it
dude you reminded me I can change my keyboard angle, I have it for 3 years and I never done that. much better now, thanks
To the editor: you missed one "Bricks" which was right after the sponsorship (8:20). As punishment you will take 27 shots of any alcohol when you edit the next video.
a keyboard made of landmines would hurt less to step on.
This company is going to spend their entire existence dodging LEGO lawsuits
They're Chinese and don't give a shit about trademark, lol. They've stolen more than their fair share of IP. Melgeek needs to be blacklisted at this point.
NGL i thought my screen was dimmer but then only realized the setting different was dimmer 😂
"Build your own scene or whatever".... Recently I've been re-watching Stargate SG-1, so my first thought would be to build the control deck from the Goa'uld ships
Okay but how hard is it to clean out the Dorito dust and Mt Dew splashes?
the internet has corrupted me, I was expecting some joke with the "I love keyboard feet" at 4:12 lol
A novice keyboard enthusiast. All keyboard reviews I have watched (in and out of LTT). Everyone says they don't know if the keyboard is lubed or not... so my question is... if reviewers can't tell if its lubed or not... what's the difference them not lubing them in the first place if you can't tell?
If you compare the same switch lubed and not lubed its pretty easy to tell. But in isolation especially a well made linear can be as smooth unlubed as a worse switch is after lubing. There are also quite substantial differences between even decent factory lubing and the results you can get doing it yourself. So unlubed or badly factory lubed can be quite similar.
Plouffe Keyboard Tips is a channel I would 100% subscribe to!
as a huge fan of BRICKS, I think this is the coolest keyboard ever. I really want it. I wish you'd visited your nearest BRICK store's "build your own BRICK minifigure" thing and made BRICK minis of Plouffe and Linus to dress it up!!
id like to see a updated video on the best wireless headsets
i have a blackshark v2 x and i like it but its starting to have issues after owning it for about 2 and abit years
kind of wanted something better and wireless
people are saying the steel series nova pro thing is the best wireless gaming headset
but i dunno it seems kinda meh paird to some studio headsets you can use with gaming for a even better experiance
so i dunno what to do
You did van Gogh dirty
After this video the production team screamed lego brick for a hour str8 😂👍
This thing sounds really good stock!
This is cool but the Kit Adam from KBD Craft is the preferred Lego keyboard for me, I would love to see that on short circuit 🙂
When you're showing size measurements on screen, PLEASE put them in Normal measurements as well as American
They usually always do, looks more like an oupsie from the editors
What is the difference between Kailh Custom T and L? Tactile and Linear?
"Big, Bee, Beats, Bears, Battlestar Galactica"
Couldnt you just stick the dongle brick part to the keyboard/other part tp keep it in place?
Also about the feet, you didnt follow the first rule of wall building with bricks
I wonder if this would work with the wireless charging mod that Linus showcased yesterday considering that this is a wireless keyboard. Still, this looks fun (albeit expensive).
this looks fun until you want to clean it😅
If you know how to solder, then why not
Totally missed the change to have the Linus face printed for the review.
I can only shake my head at the lost opportunity
I backed this keyboard and actually got it for sub $200 so idk where they're getting their numbers. It's a great keyboard with a nice sound profile which sounds better than I expected. I will say though, make sure you pick the right one. I picked what I thought was an off-white version but it was actually a light pink X_X. I also added on some more BRICKS for decorating and other accesories and I STILL HAVEN'T GOTTEN THEM! The keycaps are good quality but they are WAY too flat and uniform so it's hard to type fast when your fingers run into the sides of these deeply pressed squares. I threw on some other keycaps and it's a dream to type on now. It does take up a good amount of your desk though close to a full sized keyboard but without the number row. You can use the software to reprogram the navigation keys to turn them into a number pad if you wanted. It's switches connection types flawlessly, the software is good and easy to use, and it's a ton of fun to build around to endlessly customize and theme your set up. I highly recommend it but I'd have another good keyboard as a back up to switch between. That's what my main driver is for (the QK60). Btw, I feel like this review really missed the mark and didn't highlight the right things. They should try it for a day or week first.
This video isn’t a review.
Would be cool if the brick keyboards attachment points where contacts, so if you attach a wheel, it could use the wheel as a knob for brightness or volume and attach any switch on the keyboard and it would just work as as a new key, knob or switch
It would be infenetly ajustable to the layout you want
This keyboard gives "I am playing bricked up" a whole new meaning.
I haven't reached the price segment of the video but I would totally buy one of these if they were in the $50-70 range. I don't think it will be but that's the point I would get one to play with.
that brickcounter just reminds me of cinema sins/wins xD
there is one keyboard that has its case built out if Lego and is supposed to sound like Lego snapping together when typing
Now I want to see a full "brick" gaming setup. Pc mouse screen the works it could be fun
The keycaps are cute, but each one is just a little bit wider than a 2*2 brick. Ignoring the function row, the 5 keyboard rows are actually 12 pips when measuring along the keyboard case (rather than 10 pips).
Typical keyboard key spacing is 19 mm (0.75 inches). 5 rows is 95 mm. Lego pips are 8.0 mm apart (centre to centre), so 12 pips is 96 mm.
It seems they didn't bother designing a keyboard PCB with narrower 16mm spacing. Cherry MX switches are 15.6×15.6 mm at their widest, so they would physically fit. Of course that'd sacrifice the ability to use typical MX keycaps, but who buys this board to use *regular* keycaps on it?
that brick counter got old real fast
why is the monitor behind Plouffe look like it has static on it? is it just a video rendering bug?
Only as expensive as lego is. Lego people are used to paying a premium lmao
Waiting for the first video of someone integrating it into their Hoth MOC.
Looks like you could Play Well with this
v2 final final back at it again with the funny edits
Linus you gotta let him edit a main ltt vid plz uwu
Canadian joke incoming:
I wonder if you'd be able to pick this up at THE BRICK.
Hope you do the new ROG Azoth and see the kit they provided if its at your approval :3
10:49 That sounds a lot like The Sims keyboard, I think Jonathan will approve.
This is certainly much more brick-compatible than i-rocks’ that came out a few years ago
Please review the keyboards from Tezarre. I have the white TK 63 w/ the brown tactile switches. I suggest everything above the TK 63 because they include the arrow keys. They're only 60% but they price ranges between 80 and 130 US. While I might be a keyboard noob I really like mine.
You should check out the KBD ADAM from KBDCraft, lego built frame!
does anyone know what's the plate material?
I haven't been here this early before! It's so cool!
That chime with the counter was pretty annoying... The joke isn't funny enough to call that much attention to it.
This is so nerdy and ridiculous. I love it.
How about the full "Brick" compatible PC build there is a "Lego/Brick compatible" 3070
That's some Sarah Butt level of packaging attention to detail
I have the kbdcraft adam which is100$, comes with everything you need to build it and its usually in stock
at the end of this video, the amount of bricks that he said can definitely be use to build a house.
somehow the high end keyboard scene has gone from high quality amazing peices of hardware to use... to somehow just making things that are silly that seem to only exist to be expensive for no actual reason.
Melgeek is not "high end".
Will Arnett just got theme for one of the builds in "brick" masters
in german we have to say Klemmbausteine, so dont complain about having to say bricks
Worlds first MANUFACTURED brick keyboard, this idea itself isnt new
Perifractic at retro recipes made a full C64 from bricks. I bet this idea came from him.
Here we are getting a glimpse at how Plouffe was at 5 YO. :D
2.4ghz doesn't mean it's using wifi, it's just using the 2.4ghz spectrum
Make a short of a compilation of Plouffe saying nothing but "bricks"
For a while i thought this was an "Half as interesting video" because of all the bricks😂
The purple on the monitor is upsetting the camera sensor...weirdly noisier than pure black areas??
I’m “bricked” up just watching this!
Lol ok.
this is a great and funny keyboard video! owo
lego is already the default name for every brick toy, even if they send cease and desist letters i bet that in court they lose the case the same way that every 4x4 is a jeep.
