Jay Leno is too cool. He has such a passion for these old cars and bikes. It is cool to see that he actually drives them and not just for show, and lets others enjoy them too.
You can see he's worried a little each time he lets mustache guy drive one. And I think if it was 'up to him', he wouldn't let others drive, and would only drive it himself once, or just enough to know one is road worthy. But he realizes that what he is doing here is bigger than himself, and the cars exist to be driven. Like he hardly owns them, but is just the current caretaker of history. Jay is so cool.
I greatly admire Jay Leno for genuinely appreciating the engineering that went into these old cars. :) His driving a steam car on modern highways is absolute cool.
@@thedos2922 it was a joke. Everyone here should be aware of his comedic success. Not just with stand up, but with Late Night as well. That’s how he’s able to afford such a massive collection.
Wow, Jay was so relaxed around that thing as it spit fire and smoke everywhere. Boilers explode right? He really knows his stuff when it comes to these old automotive artifacts.
@@wholeNwon I have no idea what that is or means. I'll just take your word for it. Question. Does this thing run on water or kerosene? Why haven't anyone built a modern version of a steam powered car?
@@sentry9834 Some used kerosene to boil the water, others used gasoline to boil the water in the same boiler Stanley boiler design. External combustion engines are inefficient.
It was awesome enough just to see a car like this, but to have seen the startup procedure as well, that was priceless. I'll never see that anywhere else in my life, so thank you for the experience.
Been watching jay for quite a while he's a real gent that has a deep appreciation for forward thinkers and craftsmanship of yester year the men that originally built this old steamer have passed on a long time ago...he has done them all proud.
Such a brilliant piece of engineering. The sophistication and ingenuity of early 1900’s technology never stops to amaze me. And the whistle.... is just epic, haha!
SinriWoah LIVE!. I love seeing Jay's steamers flash off. The running fuel is Kerosene (almost diesel) but the pilot and starting fuel is....wait for it....gasoline dripping through an open tube and faucet. Back in that day, gasoline was 30 octane so it went poof if you looked at it crosseyed. This is most likely 87-93 octane, and much harder to ignite, till it goes
SinriWoah LIVE!. Yep. Gasoline was originally a waste product of Kerosene distillation (in things (columns) resembling moonshine stills). Thus it was mostly hexane and heptane (C6 and C7) and at best 30-40% octane (C8) and neptane. Very very dangerous, and transported on wagons and trains in wooden barrels.
Watching the shutdown brought an idea to mind... this rig is a quick disconnect coupler, a hose, and a nozzle from being a portable steam cleaning business.
My Great, Great Grandfather was the Notary for that speed record ... my family settled Ormond Beach (New Britain), Fla. and they named my Dad - Stanley ...

Damn I hated Jay Leno's Night Show. But I love him and all his cars in the way he appears to treat his guys at the shop. To have that many good mechanic nerd good people around you I'm envious Jay.
I seem to remember a story about how people who lived around the area where jay drives, they were hearing what they thought was some kind of ghost train because of the steam whistle but turned out it was just jay in a steam car :).

I m the proud owner of a set of lights for a stanley steamer and also the tail lamps and a gabriel exhaust horn from the period, I,m very lucky to own them , I purchased them a while ago from a very good friend from Norfolk. Maybe one day I,ll find and own a car of the period that I can use them on again.
127 mph in 1906. Holy Cow! That is incredible. The driver must have felt that he had left this earth.
He actually did.
I wouldn't be surprised if once achieved it's what really made man think he could fly because they probably already did for a few feet
Feels scary in a lot of modern cars - would’ve been terrifying in this thing! lol
Or maybe he felt like he was doing 127.
@@mattouli scary? Try doing 90 in the Kern Canyon at 2am in a 85 Chevy Blazer.

This video shows how smart Jay really is. His technical understanding and general awareness... Wow!
The guy looks like he’s straight out of the Edwardian era and he’s getting lessons on a steam car by Jay wearing denim.
People wore denim in 1906
Lmfao
Can't help but to smile watching Jay and Dennis in the Stanley Steamer.
Smile on Jay's face; terror on Dennis'.
Yeah its asbestos, we get it from old schools
jack002tuber a good line jay is funny when he wants to
supercrapnstuff11 if he ever gets tired of being a mechanic, he should consider becoming a professional comedian. 😁

I love all the steam and sounds this car makes like a train. So cool.
Jay Leno is a gift to the world. Thank God for Jay Leno.
I luv how Leno , knows his shit. A true 'collector'.

i want a stanley steamer! love the horn in the tunnel!
i also really want one, just have to beaware of the backfires
Whenever I see Jay in an old car driving down the street I think of the people in the other cars yelling to their passengers "Look at that car!"
So interesting and the cars were so fast for that time and just starting. Thanks.
Stanley steemer makes your home cleaner!!
1800-steamer Stanley steamer is the certified cleaner
Passion for cars with my ancestors have definitely been passed down to me. Great documentary!
That car is a blast... ;-)
Literaly!
9 years old and totally priceless. Incredible capture that may be the least of it's kind.
I think this one is my favorite one of Jays steam cars!

Like watching steam cars! 😀🚘😘 Mike from Missouri
I really like you Jay. You have the mind of an engineer and you are a comic. God Bless you.
That was hilarious! Also I liked the 'I know you have the up and down action' bit.
You guys should do a comedy tour together. I love both of your channels. Keep up the good work, and please live forever.
I love it. Man I would be smiling from ear to ear driving that.
Out of all the cars Jay has this is probably the coolest.

I want to see Jay go to the DMV to register one of these crazy machines
So would I
Love the horn... Nice and simple car.
This is how Jay Leno caught on fire. Scary old machines really.
you have the up and down action awesoome funny thank you great job i wish i was there
Man, you really, really, really needed to want to go somewhere back then. I would have picked a horse......
O man. That thing looks ñike a mobile moonshine destilery... I love it xD
Honey. Will you go start the car for me? Its 3 am...i know
Really enjoyed
Outstanding.
I hope someone else out there is keeping the steam car legacy alive. If not, when Jay passes away, so goes the steam car.
Amazing sound of cornet!!!
Such a great video!!
This is so cool !!
That is fantastic!
05/09/17 - How in the world of all things amazing could 2 folks dislike the Stanley.
He clearly enjoys blowing that horn thing
Stean whistle?

that’s amazing more than 100 years car still running
a very cool car Jay. camera angles work well with it.

That car looks fun :D
Great steam powered cars
Crazy to think that not that long ago T.V. use to broadcast in 4:3.
For what it is,it's prettyfast,60 mph on the interstate,and it's a steamer,that's mind blowing!.John Guinto
This went 126mph back when it was believed that the human body could not withstand a sudden stop from 35.
Amazing
Love this
jay leno probably has the biggest classic car collection in the world! and they' re all in tip top shape! must have cost him 10's of millions!
“What do you mean officer, its just steam”
Something tells me this is all for that horn whistle. Haha haha
This must have been before Jay blew moustach off Dennis's face.

I just heard about Mr. Leno getting burned (11/14/22) and I thought of this car. Hopefully he recovers well.
Could you imagine doing all that on a cold morning 😂
Nope, that's why they often just kept the pilot burning.
I'd need those goggles
Most interesting!
Starts just like my Honda!
THANKS, PERFECT FOR THE FUTURE,
Headlights was a great touch, the design, sound, reminds me of Disneys Chiggy Chiggy Boom Boom.
More to be seen than to see at night.
Fast And Furious : Look at my car, it breathes white nitrous gasses like a dragon.....
Jay : Bruh, pleaaaaaaaase !!!
Keep your mouth closed....unless your hungry... LOL
Now we know how Jay cleans the driveway and parking lot
You are the best
Guess you better hope that wherever you're going has a blacksmith shop if you want to be able to get back lol
great !!!!
This has to be the reason why some say cars are alive , you had to wake it up in the garage to get it moving.
wow once it started it was nearly worth it. crazy
Internal combustion was suuuuch an improvement
It surely was, yet water is more plentiful and ubiquitous. I wish steam engines can be rekindled.
Steam technologies are wonderfull!!!!!
Such a pain to start but man is it gorgeous once it's going
Lmfao. "I know you got the up and down action"
I don’t think I’d want to take that suspension set-up on the freeway 😳😁
Steam Automobiles could make a comeback!
Crazy. I want one. How about a replica with a doble engine?
Damn!!!
I love steam powered cars
Wish I had enough money to afford a collection like that.
The alternative to asbestos is rockwool
By far the most enviornmentally friendly car on the road today.
Actually not - burns quite a lot of kerosene to keep the water boiling.
it's slow external combustion, so you could technically make burn very cleanly, but there's probably a lot of thermal energy loss
Jay's steam punk drinking game. every time he says "dollop", take a shot. Works for all his steam car videos.
