TINY LINTEL JOB NEARLY ENDED IN HOSPITAL !! WE ARE BACK ON A PREVIOUS JOB TO DO THE THIRD AND FINAL LINTEL WHICH IS VERY SMALL AND ONLY NEEDED 1 SCROW PROP.
WE TAKE OUT TWICE AS MUCH EXTRA BRICKWORK EITHER SIDE TO ALLOW FOR THE UPSTAND ON THE CAVITY TRAY AND HAVE TO CUT BACK THE IN SITU CAST CONCRETE LINTELS ON THE INTERNAL LEAF TO ALLOW FOR THE NEW ANGLE IRON.
WHILE CHANGING THE BLADE I DIDN'T TAKE OUT THE BATTERY AND MANAGED TO DROP IT AND SET IT OFF WHILE I WAS HANDLING THE BLADE END. LUCKILY NO DAMAGE WAS DONE BUT IT WAS A VERY CLOSE SHAVE.......ENJOY

Just by accident came on your videos now i can't get enough, good job Steve and Alex.
That’s a very happy accident . Welcome to the channel 🤜🏽🤛🏽🧱👍🏽
Great work!
Glad you didn't lose some fingers. Whikst there's a safety catch on the switch this shows that it can be overcome by accident.
A very timely reminder to always disconnect power tools when changing blades!
Absolutely mark 😬🧱👍🏽
Accidents happen so easily Steve lucky for you no harm done mate 👍 👌
Accidents are caused by something 😬.
In this case a very lucky moron 😩👍🏽🧱
Where all morons at times Steve
I am not ! In any shape way or form having a go at you, cos i really enjoy watching your work ! At the point you had the grinder fall, i was actually cringing cos i could see the battery in place. I also woukd point to something that I've always done when changing a disc, n that is, once the disc is fitted i spin the disc noting a particular point on the guard, to see if the disc is turning concentrically, n then i turn the grinder 90° to ensure the disc is not " cocked " in any way, whilst rotating the disc again.
I'm saying " how i do it " thats all .
Keep up the GREAT VIDEO'S GUYS !!
Thanks for the tip 🧱👍🏽
Just as well it was a small lintel. The big lintel would’ve cost an arm and a leg, this nearly cost you a few fingers! Lucky escape Steve. Top job all the same with you and Al. Brilliant watch.
Cheers Tom , lesson learnt now 😬🧱👍🏽
With that reciprocation saw, I can hear the cogs in burgulars head going full belt, new way to break into a house. 😂😂😂
🫤
Great job as usual. I love watching your work, the both of you. Close call with the grinder. They don't take any prisoners these power tools. Take care out there.
Cheers pal 🧱👍🏽
Beautiful job
Cheers Adrian 🤜🏽🤛🏽🧱👍🏽
Hi Steve & Alex. Nice job guys. Lintel kings fix another one. Got done before it got too so bonus. Luckily you didn’t hurt your self on the grinder Steve. We have all done it. Have a good weekend 👍
Cheers John boy , you too 🧱👍🏽
Wow !!! Lucky AF mate hope ya did the Lottery after Steve 😊
😬🧱👍🏽
Nice tidy job guys. Those wide perps aren't noticeable and blend in well. Noticed the original wall ties in great condition considering the age 👍👍
Cheers Doug, yes very rare 😳🧱👍🏽
Well done guys. Those Milwaukee tools are in a different league.
Game changers for us Tony 🟥❤️🧱👍🏽
Ahhhhhh!....that white fluffy stuff!
😬🧱👍🏽
Nice work Guys as usual and think Steve was very lucky and shows how easy accidents happen, be safe!
Very true Danny 😬🧱👍🏽
Lovely job. Those quick release nuts for the grinder are spot on.
Cheap and brilliant 🧱👍🏽
Great job boys ❤
Hi, Can I ask what blade you use on the recipe saw please? Been looking for one but can't decide 🥴 Many thanks, Rob
It’s a masonry carbide 🧱👍🏽
OMG that scared the heck out of me sp glad you are okay
Me too , near miss but all good 🙌🏽🧱👍🏽
After near miss with changing blade with grinder battery in you demonstrate changing hammer drill head with battery in.
The drill has a safety switch on it
Good content, binged a couple of your videos. Great inspo
Cheers George 🙏🏽🧱👍🏽
Very good job guys. It's all about stages and patience. A few of the movie star brickies on RUclips would be taking all sorts of short cuts on a job like this. Must admit that throughout that video the existing brick on the top left of the window was annoying the hell out of me. It looks like the brick and a half below it, had a chip out of them and it showed on the bed. My OCD was running rampant.
🤣🤣🧱👍🏽
I had a big grinder once 10ins and it kicked back on me and hit me in the chest doing some serious damage after that i gave it away it was too dangerous causing a couple of months going up to the hospital I swear if it did not have an electric lead on it ,it would have gone strait through me but i am still here and all healed up blood dangerous tools can be
mind you you nearly had your hip done then ,take real care and always take the battery out ,thanks for the video
Some grim stories knocking about 😬🧱👍🏽
The Lintel Kings strike again.
😁🤙🏾🧱
Well done as usual yous 2 xx
Cheers Mick 🙌🏽🙌🏽🧱👍🏽
I’m only a 19 year old apprentice and just like you I got extremely lucky with a grinder accident. I was cutting out an arch in a brick to go round a pipe and the disc snagged and jumped out at me and grazed the top of my thumb muscle near the wrist. Mm’s away from multiple tendons and somehow didn’t even need stitches. I learned after that I was cutting with the blade spinning towards me instead of away and I was only using one hand to hold the grinder. You live and you learn ey. I’m glad you’re okay mate👌🏻
Cheers pal . Lethal things that we all just pick up with no training. Scary really 😬🧱👍🏽
@@SteveAndAlexBuild At school (electrical engineering) I overheard some other pupils asking a metal shop teacher for an angle grinder because they wanted to cut a hole into a metal enclosure. The teacher did everything he could to dissuade them and get them to use any other tool he could think of that would get the job done more safely. I think he succeeded and they ended up using a drill and jigsaw. Another teacher taught us: "Grinding disc injuries are the worst type of injuries because they remove so much tissue!".
Angle grinders and chainsaws are the tools I've got the most respect for, probably followed by table saws and circular saws.
@Ragnar8504 😬🫣🧱👍🏽
@@Ragnar8504 well luckily in my case I just got a slight open slit that didn’t need stitches and a few grazes around it. I can see how it can do so much damage though by how it ripped my glove to absolute bits😂😬
You mentioned lime mortar in the wall. Could you be using lime putty mortar instead of what looks like portland-based mortar?
Not sure what you mean
Now there is only one problem Steve, apart from being a lot better the only thing you can tell its been done is the better finishing.
A job well done old friend.
Had to go for another x-ray doctors pleased with me, he reckons the way I'm healing four weeks and the plaster can come off.
Didn't see much of Alex (the bulldoze), but you could tell he was there.
All my best regards as ever Ken
Good to hear Ken . Al wasn’t too good so rested in the van 🚐 🧱👍🏽
To Infinity and beyond lol good job guys 👍
😁👍🏽🧱
These lintels that you chop down, you don't seem to prime and paint the cut edge as per guidelines for what I assume to be galvanised? The raw steel edge will corrode inwards. Stainless lintels are an option if you are going to be cutting down.
Nice one Chaps !!
Cheers Carl 🧱👍🏽
Brilliant as always and enjoy God's own county of Yorkshire
Will do , thornwick bay haven site , looks nice 😎🧱
Thanks
Much appreciated Mick 🙏🏽🙏🏽🥹🧱👍🏽
I know nothing about brick laying but I can see that wasn’t done correctly, wow!
Cheers Kevin 🧱👍🏽
Just a thought guys. Do you treat the cut ends to the lintels you shorten with anything as corrosion could start on the bare metal
Most of the time 🧱👍🏽
I saw an identical FIX TECH type of nut at our major hardware chain about a year ago and I know it wasn't a Milwaukee product because they don't stock Milwaukee tools. It was quite expensive so I didn't get one but I was tempted!
Excellent piece of kit 👍🏽🧱
You've no need to keep plugging the Milwaukee tools, we all know how good they are, and they should be at the price, but would you have bought them ? Always good work, your skill is unquestionably top tier. 👍
When our sponsorship ends I will still buy their tools 🧱👍🏽
Hi Steve and Alex. What Milwaukee tool has become the most useful , in most, if not all your jobs.
The two stand out tools which we use most are the big MX FUEL saw and the SDS drill / breaker . Amazing tools 🟥🤙🏾🧱👍🏽
Cracking job Steve and Alex 👍👍
Thanks pal 🧱👍🏽
Well they’ve known of the dangers of asbestos since the 1950’s so no excuse for being in films. Look on RUclips for the Australian town covered in asbestos dust from the local asbestos mine. I had a 9” grinder kick back on me while cutting steel, luckily I was wearing a full face visor but the handle smashed into the screen and the impact hit my lip. My lip was swollen out more than my nose and I still have a scar. Better to wear a full face visor. Regards, Dave
Jeez they really are lethal 🫣🧱👍🏽
Cracking job as usual, do you have to trim the galvo lintel, or is just cosmetic ?
Yes for the cavity tray 🧱👍🏽
@@SteveAndAlexBuild Sorry Steve, i'm a numpty, i meant the underside of the lintel that's showing above the window, can it be left to the elements, or like you have done, trimmed it with plastic.
@davidcort2857 Ah just cosmetic and a pain in the arse to do 😒🧱👍🏽
@@SteveAndAlexBuild Thank you.
@davidcort2857 🧱👍🏽
Might be a daft question but whats the point of a flimsy lintel that needs "wood" support until the bricks above set?
Once the mortar goes off its self supporting , the lintel does very little work
@@SteveAndAlexBuild I rather guessed that and the mortar is doing all the work but then again this is not an arch with keystone. In an ideal world and not a retrofit would the lintel of choice be more substantial as per some that you've removed albeit old and laminated?
@Stormin_Mike no just the same 👍🏽🧱
Nice work as usual, 👍 you don't see many houses with air bricks half way up the wall , only occasionally why is that?
That’s when the cavity was empty and vented 🥶🥶🧱👍🏽
@@SteveAndAlexBuild thanks ,in my home town we have similar houses you can get two houses next to eachother but only one will have air bricks half way up the walls maybe some have been filled in over the years
Sounds right 🧱👍🏽
@@SteveAndAlexBuildso if you have cavity wall insulation you should be able to remove the air bricks that are half way up the wall?? Mine are filled with silicone that’s got holes and others are falling in.
This could be the reason behind moisture drip marks on walls you think?
@msw8313 . Yes no need for vents generally with the exception of ones installed to vent gas fires 🔥 🧱👍🏽
£8 in toolstation those angle grinder nuts.
👍🏽🧱
Jesus stevie boy, you’re lucky mate.
Never had to use a blade spanner on a small grinder, just used the blade to loosen and tighten.
The trigger style you have on that grinder has not been my favourite style for this exact reason.
😬🧱👍🏽
What adhesive do you use for the cavity tray?
No nails or silicone 🧱👍🏽
Wow you were so lucky, simple mistake to make, bet you take the battery out from now on
Every time 🤦🧱👍🏽
Nearly cut your hand with the grinder? 😵💫
Yep 😬🧱👍🏽
I like the sds drill but the grinder is not so good, very poor trigger design to turn on like that and a very shallow cut my friend, only looked to be around 15mm. my Dewalt design would put it to shame. and whats going on with the thickness of a modern lintle that can flex like that over a 400mm span. as alwas I still remain a fan of the work and show
😁🧱👍🏽
It wasn't wizard of Oz Alex,it was White Christmas.....
👍🏽
👍💥👍
🧱👍🏽
Steve whats alex goin to do when you have your op i can see ya laid up for 6 weeks
We have a few options to look into 🧱👍🏽
For what it's worth you only need 100mm bearing on a lintel of this span.
We always do 150 standard 🧱👍🏽
Better to drop the grinder than **drop** your fingers ✋ 😨😨
Absolutely 🧱👍🏽
Fixtec £7.98 inc vat
We got ours in special offer in tool station 🧱👍🏽
No! You didnt....
Only once 😳🧱👍🏽
