Excellent. I’m glad to see a popular channel such as yours showing hot mixing. So much old brickwork would be in a far better state had it been repointed in quicklime instead of cement.
Dear Stu, dear KC, I appreciate your courage handling pure CaO (bunt lime in German). The risk of accidents when exstinguishing larger quantities with water to get hydrated lime Ca(OH)2 is huge ... a clean case for protection equipment! From my point of experimente you can improve the lime mortar quality if you set a large tub with the lime and let it rest for some days upfront. Any remaining CaO in the mortar will cause a risk with durability in the joints. BR from Germany Wolfram
Yes. A friend at work put a bucket on the floor and got one small drop in his eye. Loss of ability to work during treatments and what not. The contractor paid compensation. not nice. It can make holes in your hands, you will discover them at the end of the day under the gloves. And don't breathe that dust...very dangerous.
Someone once told me the fact that the old houses here in Portsmouth were built with lime mortar stopped a lot of them collapsing from vibrations from indirect bomb hits in ww2, due to the better flexibility over cement.
