Maybe it's not a mag well maybe it's just a butt plate, or floor plate, or bottom plate, or thing so your hand doesn't slide off. HAHAHA 😎 As you see I enjoyed the video. (But what do I know)😉
@@GRT1865s actually much closer to the truth than he realizes. You're right. This magwell doesn't function as a reloading aid. It does however, do it's PRIMARY function exceptionally well. It's to help improve your grip. I'm surprised you didn't A) notice it, or at least mention it, and B) know that's actually the primary function of all aftermarket magwells. I have slim profile conceal carry magwells on ALL of my carry and SHTF guns. If it's for a Glock, yes, they will aid your reloads because of the design of the frame. But the magwell on my P30L, the exact same one you have, only aids with grip. And boy do magwells excell in that role. That's what it's for. Any shooter should be practiced enough with reloads for a magwell to simply be a luxury, other than using it for it's intended function.
That feature you describe is a known product in target rifle circles. Hand shelf or hand rest. They should list it and sell it as such. The current description is at best mistaken. At worst, dishonest. -Marky
i have the VP9 Match, i put on the larger competition magwell. after filing down some of the inside of the frame, it actually does make a difference. its just that you shouldn't have to do that on a gun that costs $1k plus. i guess its all part of the learning experience when it comes to modifying guns
That magwell works as another form of recoil control. On the video it shows it all when you grip the pistol. From pinky to thumb your palm is wrapped around it for better recoil control. The definition “magwel” is the magazine well. It is not the competition style that seriously flared out like a funnel.
Jamie, in my opinion you are trying to make a square peg fit into a round hole. AKA reaching. What you are trying to describe is known as a palm rest or sometimes a grip-shelf in the target shooting circles. This item when we bought it was absolutely marketed as a “magwell”. Additionally the feeling you are describing is typically something found on smaller gripped pistols with magwells attached. The best example is the Glock 19. Larger hands on G19’s with magwells give that extra purchase you are trying to describe. Oh yeah…and they function as mag wells too. Look. I get it. You like your VP9. It’s in my opinion, probably the best striker-fired pistol made today. Fully ambi. But this aftermarket “magwell” is a joke. If the maker wants to sell it as a palm rest, label it as such. This item as it’s currently sold is, in my opinion, a scam. Regards, Marky
It adds no appreciable weight to the frame at all. It does not in any way reduce felt or perceived recoil by the user. Any argument otherwise is merely psychological or illogical in nature. If someone wants to state it works as a grip shelf, like we see on Olympic rifles, that’s fine. But it isn’t a mag funnel or frame weight of any measurable or significant effect. Regards, Marky
Correct. Ours is alloy. I didn’t know there was a heavier one. I would still question if it’s heavy enough to make an appreciable difference. Regards, Marky
Your video is completely true and honest. Worse yet the “competition” model is just as bad. HK Parts makes a lot of stuff, mostly overpriced, some functional, but this is absolutely crap. One point you didn’t mention is, this thing makes it impossible to strip a factory mag in a type 3 malfunction remediation- so people carrying a gun with the silly thing might have a real problem. I sure hope people considering this thing see your video first. Honestly, if I were a lawyer for HK, I would send a Cease and Desist to HK Parts for sullying the company name.
I’m not going to make it personal. The thing doesn’t do the job well. So don’t buy the thing. My loss is your gain. Yes, I am aware of the previous owners’s trouble with the BATFE. But that’s beyond this video. Glad you liked it! Marky
Got one and installed today. Not blown away by it, reloads might a tiny bit easier, but if anything I do like the extra "grip" it provides. Also I didn't spend
I knew this wasn't a great magwell when I bought it. What it does for me is provide a pinky grip area to lock my vp9 in real nice. Totally agree trash magwell. But Great Lil grip mod
@@John1911 I was hoping to find a video on it but didn't see any. I might grab that for my VP9 match that I just order but I'd like to carry my standard vp9 from time to time.
You can get a glimpse of the TF magwell in this video. Note, i had to cut some of the frame away to get this on. So once you hang it, you’re likely keeping it attached. Marky ruclips.net/video/DjhPGeuu_CI/видео.html
John, I bought the “competition” magwell. I also ran into this same issue, I was confused because it leaves the edges exposed and causes my reloads to hang up. This product makes reloads HARDER. Sorry about your bad experience
I am amazed when I see so many of them on guns. It’s almost like the owners don’t...actually...shoot? 🤷🏼♂️ Thanks for taking the tune to watch our channel. Sincerely, Marky
Hoped 5 years later something changed. Nope not a magwell. Appears to be. Looks like one. Changes nothing on reloads. Does hold hand slightly better. Not much.
It’s like fake eyelashes for a gun. I never understood why people put this on their gun it makes them look like the guys who put fake race car pars on heir car that ever real car guy sees and shakes his head at. Thanks for making an honest video on this. Been telling my brother-in-law it’s not a magwell forever. Sending him this video run.
I am currently playing with one from Taylor freelance. But I’m not entirely sure I would recommend it yet. It’s on the other end of the spectrum: pretty big.
