      A l e x a n d e r Yea they kicked Newsted out because of his other band. Hetfield thought he should be 100% Metallica all the time. Bob Rock the producer played Bass on the album they had auditions and hired Robert Trujillo from Suicidal Tendencies and Ozzy Osbourne for the tour and thereafter. Newsted got a bad deal.

      worgegramsci105 Really? Okay... Let's see: An overuse of snare drums, sounding like pans (hilarious, how he went and grabbed some almost instantly, btw) repetitive overly long songs, and the lyrical genius of "frantic tic tic tic tic tic toc" and of course "KILL, KILL, KILL, KILL, KILL!"

    I just listened to this last night for the first time in years. It's definitely an interesting album. There is in my opinion some genuinely great stuff (Frantic, Dirty Window, Invisible Kid, The Unnamed Feeling) and the rest is kind of a mess, but in a fun way.

    St. Anger was an album released to express more of an aggeessive/fuck everything go crazy. this album released when metallica finally got back together after james went into rehab in the late 1990/early 2000’s. Thats why the official video for the song St. Anger was filmed in a maximum security prison. To show that aggressive intimidation feeling.

    You MUST react to Megadeths discography. Megadeth was formed by former Metallica lead guitar player, Dave Mustaine. They kicked him out in early 1983, right before recording their debut album, for drug & alcohol problems. Mind you, Metallica were nick-named Alcohollica for their reputation of partying hard. So Mustaine really had some issues, which makes alot of sense considering he had a super fucked up childhood. His father once dragged him home by dragging him down the street with a pair of pliers to the ear. By the time he joined Metallica in early 1982, he already had a reputation for being a cocky, take no shit guitar player. Alot of Mustaine's riffs, attitude & style was incorporated into those first three Metallica records. He is credited with many songs on Kill Em All, two on Ride the Lightning (title track & Call of Kthulu) & Mustaine claims to have written Leper Messiah from Master of Puppets. Regardless, the battle began between Dave & Metallica the minute he was fired and sent home across the country (NY to LA) on a Greyhound bus.
    Its created, in my opinion, the greatest rivalry in the history of heavy metal. The entire reason Megadeth was created was so that Dave could get back at Metallica with more technical guitar playing and faster songs (early on). Although he hasnt sold 100 million records like Metallica, he went on to sell 50 million records with Megadeth, earning several platinum & gold records and, in my opinion and many non mainstream metal fans, outdid Metallica bar none.
    To make a long story short (lmao) to not give Megadeth their just due would be a crime to us YouYouYou fans and heavy metal period! Mustaine is the godfather of thrash metal. And I know youre bigger on the groovy shit, but theres plenty of that in Megadeth but more so in the 90s. But even sections of their songs from the early 80s albums have some really groovy elements. The first drummer Gar Samuelson, was a jazz drummer as well as guitarist Chris Poland. So it adds a very dynamic element to early MD. Check it out bro!! I know im not the only one waiting for Megadeth.. as I see the comments on the regular. Much love and all dat.. all dat!

    • @lotsathedetox
      @lotsathedetox 6 лет назад

      Skribbal Official Megadeth is great. One of my favorites. Seen them live. Rust In Peace is one of my favorite albums of all time. Sure, a lot of their stuff is faster and more technical but they never captured the same type of magic Metallica did in the 80's and early 90's. To me Metallica was always more soulful and had more feeling in their songs where as a lot of the time Dave was more focused on being faster and having crazy solos that at times felt like mindless shredding. Don't get me wrong I respect Dave as a musician and I am not afraid to say he is for the most part a far more technical player than Hammett. In my opinion though Kirk's lead work seemed to have more of a meaning and purpose most of the time. Some people try to give Dave too much credit for Metallica's early years. He only wrote 4 of the 9 tracks on Kill Em All. Mechanix which was actually changed a fair bit after Dave was gone and turned into Horsemen. Jump In The Fire, Metal Militia, and Phantom Lord. James and Lars wrote Seek, Motor breath, Hit The Lights, Whiplash, and No Remorse. He didn't write the entire songs on RTL. Ride and Ktulu were Co written. Dave did have a big part in Kill Em All but after that they were influenced by Cliff more than anyone. James had written Hit the Lights before he even knew Dave and look at a song like Whiplash. Dave had nothing to do with it. It isn't like he taught James how to play. He wasn't even in the band for a year. They didn't seem too worried about losing him. For some reason people seem to forget that Megadeth attempted to "sell out" in the 90's with a similar formula as Metallica. Countdown To Extinction was a lot less agressive and much more commercial in its sound then Rust In Peace or anything else prior. And it came out a year after Metallica blew up with the Black Album. I am a big fan of that album as well but they just couldn't get close to the success of Metallica. People want to criticize Metallica for changing their style and sound in the 90's. Especially the Load Era. But when it comes down to it those are not bad albums at all they are just such a drastic departure from their old style that people had a hard time accepting Load and Reload. But if one has a wider taste in music other than metal and accepts the albums for what they are they are very decent hard rock albums. Most music critics and lifelong fans will say Metallica has made one true stinker of an album. That would be St.Anger. Take a look at Megadeth's discography and you will find Cryptic Writings, Risk, and Youthenasia. I wouldn't call Youth a stinker but it is another attempt at being more commercially viable and it just wasn't up to par for the most part in my opinion and a lot of other fans as well. But that's 2 maybe 3 shitty albums while trying to sell more records and keep up with Metallica but their attempts just were not nearly as successful. It is really too bad that Dave can never keep a band together. Their have been changes at every position in the band including Ellefson. Not only did Dave wanting revenge on Metallica Kickstart a truly great and successful metal band in Megadeth I personally believe it may have been a detriment to the further success that possibly should have been had. He was very bitter and by many accounts was total ass hole in the 80's and 90's turning many the wrong way. I would have loved to see that line up with Friedman and Menza stick together long into the 2000's. I am a big fan of Dave's but I feel like the Metallica bashers really try to grasp at straws and omit a lot of stuff that happened throughout the history of Megadeth. It is great that the world ended up with 2 legendary bands out of the deal and I grew up listening to both. But it can be infuriating how the fan boys get things so twisted at times. Megadeth tried selling out and made bad music too. There will always be a group of haters who Hate on what is most popular and Metallica has been a victim of that since the mid 80's. I have a very strong opinion on their rivalry and once in a while I feel the need to throw it put their. I am happy that they are on decent terns these and thankful both bands are still active going strong. But the people that say Metallica sucks or aren't metal and Megadeth is so much better really don't have a clue. Almost like a metal head hipster. It drives me crazy because of how passionate I am about music and it's history. Any who hopefully they can all keep going a while longer ad long as they can still do it a high level. Long Live the metal!

      Risk is the stinker, all their other albums are fine (even though I only like half of both Super Collider and The World Needs a Hero).

    I called it in the ReLoad comments:"Part of me thinks he'll like St Anger, but he won't be able to get past the tone of the drums. It is pretty much Lars banging on pots and pans."

    "This album is right up there in those shocking moments in metal history." Truth! A lot of people didn't know how to deal with this album, and still don't, but you nailed it; bat-shit crazy is exactly where they were at the time. This came out during my first deployment to Iraq from 2003-2004 (the first year of the war there) and it was EXACTLY the kind of bat-shit crazy my buddies and I needed. Shoot me again, I ain't dead yet became a mantra as did Frantic, tick tick tock! not to mention KILLKILLKILLKILL...KILL! I'm not promoting war and I'm not interested in this turning into some bullshit discussion. Youyouyou nailed it with this reaction and I love this album for precisely the reasons he does.

    Lars Ulrich (drummer for Metallica) decided it would be a good idea to flip the lever on the snare and dis-engage the "snares" on the bottom of his snare drum. That is what that "pots and pans" sound is that you hear.

    It's probably Metallica's heaviest album, brutal guitar tuning and aggressive riffs, just the worst drum sound and terrible lyrics. Not mention no guitar solo's. But you are right, its heavy and bat shit crazy!

    When I first listened to St. Anger all the way through I was shocked but I still enjoyed it. I recall one of my "friends" hated it so much that he had an album burning party. He invited me and I replied with "Man, there are much more important things to care about." Thankfully, only two people attended his lame shindig (party).
