This was the first movie I watched at a movie threater in my hometown in 1962. I was a 6 years old Japanese kindergartener. Since that time on, I have been hooked on Godzilla. I`m now a 65 years old retiree, and still a Godzilla freak.
My first theater Godzilla experience was Godzilla vs. Megalon in 1976, a double feature with The Giant Spider Invasion. I was 8. The cheering of the kids in the theater when Godzilla appeared was deafening. One of the best memories of my life. Saw it with mom, who passed away in 2015 but not before we saw several more Godzilla films in theaters together, including the Godzillafest marathon in 2004 in San Francisco that presented fantastic prints of most of the Showa films with English subtitles... And I got to meet several of the original Showa actors, like Hiroshi Koizumi, Jerry Ito, Akira Kubo, Russ Tamblyn and others.
my only problem with it is the effects. Even for the showa period these were really bad. Mainly ssince most of the budget prob went towards getting the kong rights. Granted I still love the movie but Im so thankful we a got a remake.
Anyone else notice that the stop-motion Godzilla's design feels more similar to the MosuGoji and later suits than the one and done KingGoji design? It even resembles the Heisei design a bit, very interesting.
I find it interesting that they kept the 54 roar used in the trailer before they used a new and the later more iconic high pitched roar for him in the film.
Most likely, the sound design department didn't create the roar yet. Back in those days, Toho would assign a film a release date and already have posters, production stills, teasers, and trailers while the film was still in production! This explains why there's a few outtakes that didn't appear in the final cut.
This was actually the first Godzilla i watched in full, cause before then i skipped all the story and fast forwarded to the monsters. But with this one, i just stopped and sat down to watch it all, and what do you know, it wasnt that bad.
It was so disrespectful they didn't use Ifukube's music in the american cut. Music is universal and doesn't need to be "localized". After watching the american cut so many times, I was able to watch the Japanese blu-ray which didn't have subtitles at the time. Since I watched it so many times I was still able to9 understand what's going on. Despite not being to understand anything they were saying the music alone in this version made all the difference in the action sequences.
*Godzilla wins* Godzilla: “Okay, we’ll settle this once and for in another 59 years” Kong, slowly getting back up: “Put another 10 years on that” Godzilla: “Why would I-.....NIIIIICE!” Kong: “NIIIIICE!”
This was the first Godzilla anything I saw. Even though it was the NA version i saw this at my babysitters house and our mom was nice enough to buy some vhs's from the store and got this and Godzilla vs Megalon. We (my brother and i) were hooked since.
They actually did but it's very easy to miss. It's during the part where Kong throws a crane at a building to distract Godzilla, jumps on his back, and begins beating him in the back of the head.
The Crossover film features Godzilla and King Kong. Toho Company Ltd movie monster "Godzilla" and RKO Pictures/Universal Studios movie monster "King Kong". 59 years ago.

Still a great movie, even with some script-oddity. The original script was kong vs frankenstein, than an other monster and finally godzilla. So Kong has Frankenstein's healing and electricity-power and godzilla is weak against electricity (in the original movie he never mind the electricity). I'm from germany and I bought the japanese dvd then, because the german-version was like the us-cut so you need the import disc. Nowadays you can get both versions here.
