Though sixty years has passed since then and I`m a 66 years old pensioner, I remember this bout between Godzilla and King Kong very vividly as if it was yeasterday.

Imagine if the new GvK started out with the 1962 GvK battle and then slowly faded to the new one , that would have been a cool love letter to the showa fans
Man I'd hate to be a homeowner in Japan in the 60's. With giant monsters destroying property on a regular basis, insurance rates must've been through the roof.
I watched the 1962 King Kong vs Godzilla when i was a kid in the 90s. I was like wtf is this comical fight and was left disappointed. I definitely loved the new Godzilla vs Kong because it fulfilled my childhood dream of an epic fight. However, despite my disappointment with the 1962 film, I have to give TOHO credit because we would not have gotten the 2021 film without this 1962 film.
I had the dubbed version on VHS when I was little kid and looking at this makes me realize how much I couldn't see because that version wasn't in widescreen. There are so many shots here where Godzilla and Kong are onscreen at the same time whereas in the exact same scene on the VHS you can only see one of them because 45% of the damn screen is cut off. It's also weird not hearing The Creature From The Black Lagoon music since I watched that version a couple hundred times.
I remember how in the American version the guy with the camera said as he and his colleagues were watching that first battle said 'It's like fighting a flamethrower'.
Even though King Kong won, him and Godzilla falling into the sea and King Kong swimming home was not really a thrilling way for Kong to win. Like Mothra he could have defeated Godzilla in a much thrilling way then that!
To this day I still love this movie! So funny now, but when I was little it was scary lol. Now the new movie is even better, but I still like them both
