    In 1973 I told my Home Economics teacher that I thought food cravings were our body's way of making sure we got the nutrients we need. She laughed at me. Thank you, Doc, for affirming that God gave us amazing bodies that know what we need.

    I nearly died from a C-Diff infection and was in the hospital for a week as they tried to find something to control it. After leaving the hospital and 2 weeks later ending the prescription, I got C-diff back. Then they tried another med. Same thing. Then I even had a fecal transplant. Still, the C-diff returned after 2 weeks. This went on for over a year. Then I got an intense craving for kombucha. I had brewed and drank it 20 years ago on my homestead. But I hadn't had it in many years. I got some organic kombucha and began drinking it, about a half cup every hour. Within 3 hours my C-diff symptoms stopped. The first week I stopped the kombucha and my symptoms came back. The next day I started kombucha again. The C-diff symptoms stopped immediately! Over time, I was able to reduce the kombucha and don't even have to drink it more than once a week, if I don't want to. No more C-diff! I found out that kombucha has saccharomyces boulardii, a beneficial yeast that crowds out the C-diff bacteria! What a Creator we have to have given us these cravings. We truly are fearfully and wonderfully made!

      Thanks for telling us your story! I had forgotten that last year I was making a homemade S. boulardii supplement for IBS by opening a capsule into a jar of applesauce and letting it ferment for 3-4 days at room temperature..The yeast eats the sugars in the applesauce and expands it’s numbers. A week or more later, there is no sweetness left in the applesauce, it’s not bad tasting, but it’s medicine then.

    Thank you for this very good touch with reality. My beloved consort had a diet of his own in his studio for 30 years that was just roots, lentils, and one dropped egg for years and years and he screwed up his system. Now we are under one roof because he’s all worn out and he seemed to get a craving for sugar- he would eat chocolate sauce down to the bone, eat 80% cacao or drink all the natural maple syrup down to the drip. Repeatedly. Finally, after more than a month of this, he stopped. He got acid indigestion, but his terrible gut problem cleared up although it took two months, really. He is not bound up anymore.. I just let him go at it and it worked. What do I care what he wants to take in if he really needs it at the age of 86? His body knew best.

    I've always have a good instinct for that kind of thing, its led me to avoid the heavily artificial foods even as a kid. I can tell if it's good quality food or junk just by looking at it.
    A few years ago my finger got stung by a wasp, I looked around for Plantain leaf but didnt see it, so I grabbed some basil instead and said "ah! That one is almost just as good!" But then I stopped and realized I'd never heard that from anywhere before, but I said it, so it must be true. I went inside to google if that was a known fact and while google was confirming that it did I washed off my finger and stuck it in the apple cider vinegar jar. When I realized I did that I started googling if that was good for it too. Turns out yes. Both help stings, no need to google it, just listen to your instincts.

    My mom (in her 70's) has had a lot of leg pain stemming from a pinched nerve in her hip. Recently she moved into an RV and was going to spend some time at my sister's house. I heard your story about your wife using the valerian tincture topically for shoulder pain, so I decided to send some to my mom to try. I had never smelled it and had it shipped right to her (I live in a different state). My mom used it one day on her hip and didn't notice the smell (bad sinuses). Well, my sister and her husband thought the cat had pooped or something! When they figured out what it was, my sister messaged me telling me I'd better not send her anymore stinky medicine!😂

    While I was pregnant I craved fries, salty and sour Frozen drinks. I swapped it out for avocado (oils), on wholemeal toast (carbs) with a sprinkle of salt, small glass of orange juice on the side (better than a Chem sour drink). Other craving I had was toffee apple, just swapped it to apple for the magnesium.

      Our male brains are more compartmentalized like a bunch of boxes. Female brains are like beautiful spider webs where everything is connected to everything else. I’m honestly the only person that craves healthy stuff in my life but I’m naturally lean and yet muscular, and all in all, very balanced in my mind and body. I’m able to do more than many people in general in a day despite being genetically predisposed to osteoarthritis that has been present since childhood and varies in severity of symptoms. I’m currently working on handling it naturally again as being on ADHD meds for a year or so stressed out my body to the point of it being as severe as it’s ever been. My hands would hurt so bad I would cry through doing the most basic things.
    Just a week or so off of them now and listening to my body, I have been craving veggies, lots of protein, and herbs. I mean I CRAVE HERBS. Mostly fennel but I love to just eat it sometimes, I go through phases with it and it does wonders for relaxing me as well as restoring digestion. The meds always messed with it so I think that’s also why I’m craving a lot of things to help it. I also LOVE eating sage and drinking the tea of it. Greek safe has amazing benefits! Pls look into both for yourself if you see this as they’re my fav herbs and I found this video trying to figure out why I crave them specifically. lol
    Good luck and health to all!

Took some of the flowers home and made a tea and it did just that. (Maybe not a good idea but it worked out this time.) I have mild asthma and it was helpful. When I was showing it to my friend she said, O that stinks! I didn't think it smelled bad at all but I guess the name says it all! I have heard that the native americans would give it to their horses when they had a cough.

They do have a salt block and a mineral tub available, but I am guessing it is something in the red clay that they need. As for men and women’s brains being wired different. I could not be more thankful for the brains if the men in my life. They help me keep control of my many directional and fast moving brain. Which can get very overwhelming when there is so much to think of at once. It is good to have boxes to put thoughts in and a husband to snap me out of my worries when my boxes spill out and helps me put everything back in my boxes.

    I have recurring fevers and ibs for 2 years now. The doc suspects an autoimmune disorder of some sort. I recently started fermenting garlic in honey. I can’t get enough of it. I don’t eat the whole jar at once because I want some before the next batch is ready. Wondering if there’s something to it.

    • @thisorthat7626
      @thisorthat7626 2 года назад

      @user-wq9bf9ou6q our body knows what it needs to stay healthy. Garlic is an antibiotic, antiviral and contains a lot of sulfur which our immune system needs. Honey also helps with keeping bacteria at bay. So, it makes sense that you craved the fermented garlic in honey.

    I hear fig leaves are good to make a tea for high blood pressure. Can you give some info on fig leaves.

    • @HomeGrownHerbalist
      @HomeGrownHerbalist  3 года назад +1

      I haven't ever used fig leaves but there are some good studies on fig leaves decreasing blood pressure as well as decreasing high blood sugars.
      Be really careful about combining herbs and medications that decrease blood pressure or blood sugar. Too much of a good thing can be a really BAD thing.

    A dairy vet? Bovine or caprine or...?

    • @HomeGrownHerbalist
      @HomeGrownHerbalist  3 года назад +3

      I wrassled both cows and goats in my dairy adventures.
      I Wrassled horses, beef cows, llamas and the occasional ostrich too as needed. For the last few years I've only worked with small animals. They're easier to wrassle. :0)
      The vet practice has been a real blessing as an herbalist because I have a piece of paper on the wall that says I can do whatever I want with a dog/horse/cow. As a result, Ive treated horrific wounds, gunshots, snake bites, gangrene, critical cases etc with herbs that most herbalists don't get to address. It makes a big difference in the school.
