Thanks everyone for patiently waiting. 3 years 9 months is how long I've been stuck on this track. I would always quit and do some other track, and this one always kept nagging on me until I finally gave myself an ultimatum to finish this up or none at all. I spent nearly every day of the pandemic working on it. Zelda II is such a different beast compared to the rest of the series, which is why I am an apologist for it. I really like how populated the world is, and funny enough it's still the game furthest along in the timeline. I treated it as if it was everyone's favorite in the series. This may be my only track where you see a perfect mesh of story, visuals, and music working in perfect sync.
I prefer the American version of the title theme much more to the Japanese FC version. The instrumentation is softer, and the tone is sinister and unpredictable, shifting between minor and major keys, never wanting to commit to a certain narrative. While the soundtrack doesn’t have catchy themes like other Zeldas, the music is incredibly lyrical. This opening title left such a huge impression on me with how unique it was. Many people say this was Souls before the Souls genre existed and I agree. The side scrolling perspective increases the scale of the environment and enemies, giving them an aggression against Link I never felt in the other Zeldas until Ocarina of Time.
To match the tone of my interpretation, midway through my writer's block, I felt one thing holding me back was that the original story in the manual doesn't add enough to the darkness and oppression shown in the game itself. This is because the introduction of a new different Zelda who's been asleep for hundreds of years does not create any urgency to the player. I don't understand why I have to wake her up to save Hyrule from ruin. I also find myself constantly asking where did the current Zelda go, and why isn't she helping me. So I ended up writing up a new prologue that replaces the sleeping Zelda with the same princess from the first game. My rewrite follows a more natural progression from the previous game where we get everyone else's reaction. How does the population react to Hyrule's turn of fortune, how would neighboring kingdoms deal with a new superpower kingdom, and how does this tie in with Ganon's monsters trying to hunt Link down?
Which brings me to the construction of the arrangement. It’s two loops of the original theme (with the phrases doubled up) and one third arc that takes all the articulation of the track and jumbles them together. However, the tone of the track is divided into two halfs of equal length. The first half follows Princess Zelda as she deals with everyone’s nonsense. One big influence here was Danny Elfman’s score for Alice and Wonderland. I liked the use of the female choir just humming along in the background. Following this, the music bursts out in grand fashion, and we then follow Link’s journey instead. The lush strings that follow are inspired from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves’ opening overture. I thought this mirroring was interesting, as it shows how Zelda is wise but prone to pressure, while Link is brave and heroic but too silent to voice any objection. In addition, you pile on the people’s rejection of Link, and you might have a good idea what Link is thinking about during the entire game. I know in the original game he’s not treated this way, but I thought it would be interesting to have Link’s treatment be identical to how the game itself is treated by the fandom. For the third arc that is set to gameplay footage, I wanted the music to sound like Link’s internal frustration, where he wants to just cry out in anguish over everything that’s occurred, but too introverted to display it publicly.
I’ve been trying to be more dynamic with my instrument usage and I’ve done some new things here. I’ll have some instruments start off a melody that would be taken over by another instrument family, with various other instruments chiming in the harmony and pulling away. Whether through the slow or faster parts, I wanted the track to feel like it was constantly moving with purpose, as if the orchestra players were unconcerned with being showy and were dead focused on all telling this emotional story. There is heavy usage of dissonant sounding major 7th, 9th chords. From the opening cascading ostinatos played with the harp, that I then bring back in full force with the strings at the end, you can almost see the tears in the violin player’s eyes. It’s a stark contrast to the prologue I did for the first Zelda, where I was too busy trying to pull in callbacks to other Zeldas that each section sounded too piecemeal in how it was put together.

Damn, what a hell of a return. Loved the story told throughout this. Laughed a bit when the advisor and his goons immediately ran like a bunch of cowards after Link drew his sword.
Wow, the Ilustrations, the music, everything is just, wow, very impressed, you really have made a masterpiece
As for the story. Since the story in that part of the timeline is quite sparse, I personally think that this is how events between the two games could happen.i especially liked the reference to one of the powers has as the bearer of the triforce of courage with how link is depicted bowing in reverence to the princess after his death. That of resurrection that is. Personally I think it came into being after Ganon defeated the hero of time.
I approve this message. ~Snap~
"While the soundtracks doesn't have catchy themes like other Zeldas..."
Honestly it's one of my favorite soundtracks. The title theme, overworld, battle, and both dungeon themes are some amazing tracks. So happy you've returned with this masterpiece.
I disagree i think these are probably some of the best of the series
@@everythingisshit5756 Are you disagreeing with me? Because I agree there. I was quoting the description.
You just did more to revitalize The Adventure of Link than Nintendo ever will. Amazing job!!!!!
Agreed
Ah, you’ve returned. Excellent.
Imagine if THIS would have been the game trailer for Zelda 2.
Damn, that was indeed an amazing experience which shows us, that the creativity of fans can truly create masterpieces.
Glad you're back. Half of my daily playlist comes from you!
As I replay Zelda 2 now, I can't help but think of this new story. Even if it was simply shortened down to "Ganon's forces search tirelessly for Link. The kingdom demands to burn the hero, but Zelda exhausts all of her power protecting him. Now the life of the princess hangs in the hands of the Hero" it's still way better than what the original manual gave us.
Always loved Adventure of Link, never accepted the 'criticisms' held against it. Yeah the games hard, get the fuck over it. You know what else is that hard? Ninja fucking Gaiden, the original version; no one called it unfair or bad or any of that, the whole "waah its not the same as the previous game" arguement was a blanket to cover their real issue with the game. They couldn't beat it.
Its a game about Link trying to save Zelda and find a Triforce while facing the minions of Ganon by going through numerous dungeons and towns that's a fucking Zelda game. Stfu.
Ditto Hyrule Warriors.
Oh waaah its using the formula and gameplay of a different series and it involves time travel its not a reeeal Zelda game. Real like what?
Real like the other fucking games? Its got Zelda in the title, its a direct tie in with 3 different major points in the 3d games and gives an immediate explanation for how shit fucking works with the universe. 2 souls getting reincarnated again and again being chased by an angry demon thing that reincarnates as a dude or a pigdude as often as it takes to try to wreck their lives in particular. Fucking works, games awesome and was the best new console Zelda we'd seen since fucking Twilight Princess. I don't give a shit that it didn't give you the same fucking 3-8 temple dungeon bullshit, hell when the games DO do that then all people do is bitch that its Ocarina again.
Shut the fuck up and enjoy the game or don't play it at all don't waste my fucking time with your "not real" shit. You know what else isn't real? Fucking Legend of Zelda ain't real so exactly what grounds is your argument supposed to posses?
Epic fucking work by this TSN guy though; instant subscribe.
I like your take on both the story and the music, people like you should never be underestimated
'back' is not suited for him. he was always around us afterall, like zelda.
Beautiful. I love this game so much, and this was such a wonderful arrangement.
The storytelling is really well done too. I'll happily accept this as my new headcanon backstory. =)
Just tey to ignore that the triforce of courage is locked away within the great palace for literally no reason because of the rewritten story, which is why it doesn't work.
@@jeezed2950 I don't see the problem? The Triforce of Courage was sealed in the Great Temple by a king long before the events of the first game.
This version of the story doesn't change that.
Only ever did it once, but I beat it without dying. Back in my youth. Probably never succeed now as a 31 year-old alcoholic. Lol, by the way, well done. This is awesome.
I still prefer the original storyline which is very similar but has its differences, it also explains why the third triforce is locked away in the great palace, which this unfortunately doesn't. Something about this revisionist hyrule historia (lol) is much more cheesy. I loved the elements of prophecy the original had, as well as the sleeping beauty aspect to it.
Long-time lurker here. This is awesome. I am also really at a loss for words to express my excitement at seeing new videos on your channel. :D
Awesome track! It fits perfectly in my opinion. Glad you're back and you could finish it after all that time. I especially like the moment at 4:38!
The rewritten prologue fits really well and it's an interesting take on the continuation of the first game. Good job :)
"I wanted the music to sound like Link’s internal frustration, where he wants to just cry out in anguish over everything that’s occurred, but too introverted to display it publicly."
With what happens near the end of the game, I can see where you're going with this.
It's finally here and sounds fantastic!!! It was worth the wait🙌🏻
I like this story WAY more. Having two Zeldas was always kinda weird...
Also looking forward to the Overworld theme! Underrated, but one of my favourites in the series.
We aren't told what happened to the Zelda from the first game, she probably got married off or something. I never had a problem with it, it's sleeping beauty but with the ancestor of Princess Zelda.
@@jeezed2950It’s still weird having 2 Zeldas
@@Plumpus3545 Its really not that weird when you know the premise behind the other Zelda. Same reason why having four links at once isn't weird
@@firionkaiser8291 Good point.
Zelda 2 has been around the top of my list since a child. Of the massive amount of orchestral zelda arrangements that exist, to me, zelda 2 seems to have been skipped.
I'm very grateful for this music, all three tracks that I found on RUclips.
1: prologue/title
2: overworld
3: battle arrangement
I love it. I do have a problem with the channel though. I would like to pay respects to the creators but I see that the first arrangement is listed under two channels (including this one).
I'd like to pay my respects but these utube content creators make it hard to do so on the public version of what I've been told is the "brightest part of the world wide web which is very dark".
As an idiot who does not profess jtself as a slave, I'm looking for the creators of this music. Can anyone help me in this?
Thank you.
You're back!!!
Coming from a Zelda ll hater, this is freaking amazing!!!
This is... not the story I remember from the game manual that came with my copy of Zelda II lol
Still, I enjoyed the music, Zelda II is one of my faves in the series.
Zelda 2 but the plot is different
Good to see you back!
This was awesome. I stopped at the gameplay because I want to keep it fresh when I decide to torture myself playing it again.
I thought that it was a brother who wanted the triforce but becuase his father hid it from him so he couldn’t take advantage of the power he had to go to his sister and ask her because she knew where least the tri of wisdom was. But because she wouldn’t tell him he hired a wizard to put her into a coma. I like your version better a lot.
This version of Zelda II’s story is very interesting definitely makes it less confusing with there not being two Princess Zelda’s like in the game
OMG I really always said that you are the best Zeldas orchestrator that exists on RUclips.
When I was a kid I spent hours on the Zelda II title screen listening to the prologue music and now that I hear this it made me want to cry. Thank you very much Jeremiah you are incredible !!
P.S 1 Sorry for my bad english
P.S.2 Could you tell me which VST's you used for the strings please!
What do you use to make music? Which software and instruments?
Nice, good to see you're back.
Welcome back.
Merci d'être de retour, c'est toujours une joie d'écouter vos réorchestrations!
YEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS. Always glad for more of your work, especially Zelda related.
While not many watch your videos, they are excellently crafted- full of detail, and depth.
I have followed you for many years (prob since 2017, though via different accs), and your orchestrated tracks are unparalleled by other orchestral software youtubers out there.
Keep up the good work, I look forward to see you release new tracks for years to come :3
Footnote: I also have a heavy bias to FFVII, the Zelda & Undertale franchises, so maybe that's why ahaha
Well, I certainly wasn't expecting this, but I'm glad I wasn't. Adds to the experience.
You're back! Glad to see the return of our Second Narrator :D
I enjoyed this piece, and if you choose to make a series off of it like you did with the NES Zelda, I'll be looking forward to each installment!
Blessings,
The Hylian Speedster
NINTENDO, HIRE
Ok I actually like this backstory more than the backstory from the game...
The audio arrangement was great, superb even.
The, uh, rewrite of the plot, though? Umm... I don't _want_ to say "fanfic", but...
I'll listen to the music again, for sure.
MORE MORE!!! DUNGEONS!!! OVERWORLD!!! BOSS MUSIC!! FINAL PALACE!!
I really love this game and the way you've imaginated this is so great! The music is wonderful, I can't wait to listen to the next part! 🔺️
This was a much better fleshed-out story than what Nintendo gave! Beautiful work!!!
YOU'RE BAAACK
At last, he's back!
THE LEGEND IS BACK. THE BEST ORCHESTRAL REMIXES OF ALL RUclips ARE BACK. ILY SO MUCH
I was just thinking about your Link’s Awakening orchestration the other day. I’m very excited for this.
What a luvly playlist! :) I hope the final palace theme is gunna be added some day on position nine. ^^ A shy meow from Switzerland. ^^
Honestly I know that Zelda II gets overlooked and was seen as a bit of a black sheep of the franchise for a while, but I'd love for this game's opening theme to pop up in a modern game at some point, similar to how they bring back iconic tracks like Zelda's lullaby, the Temple Of Time, etc.
Maybe at the very beginning or end of a game as Link goes off on a new adventure. It'd be a nice callback.
this is fantastic work, i wanted to share it on my fb page to encourage others to witness it, and enjoy this splendor that you've bought upon us
Absolutely beautiful you are so talented...
I don't usually make comments on videos but I will on this one. Amazing work, keep on creating. I always love what you come up with, and take all the time you need. Masterpieces don't form overnight :)
1:18 GAME OVER. RETURN OF GANON.
But still, the Hylian runes.
That isn't the story of Zelda II, though, the story of Zelda II is that there's a Zelda (another one) sleeping for centuries, and Link who already wields both triforces now goes to find the triforce of courage to wake up this ancient Zelda.
What a good way to come back
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
This is not canon though. There's 2 zeldas, one from the first game named zelda by royal decree and the second one placed in a spell by a wizard working for her brother that coveted the triforce. Whatever this is, is not canon. However... wonderful music and a good attempt at making sense of something that didn't make sense to you.
This is pure gold - both musically and visually. Thank you for your hard work.👍🎵
Congratulations on finishing it! Almost four years…that’s some dedication. And the result indeed is worthy! I enjoyed the preview you gave, but the illustrations really bring it to another level.
Particularly when things explode.
I like that part.
Hopefully now that it’s done you’ll be able to mentally move on. Something unfinished nagging you for that long, no matter how dear it is…well, like you said, it’s rough. Finishing is cathartic, but also can feel like it’s not even real… Whatever you do-taking a break, starting something new, or whatever else you choose-we’re here for you!
This was incredible! Hopefully the rest of the soundtrack could follow when you have the chance! Nintendo's prologue and story for this game kinda sucked, honestly.
YOU WOT M8?
first undertale and now my fucking CHILDHOOD SIR
Your dedication is just as strong as me, Thanos. Me like.
funky head cannon..... but the sleeping zelda of AOL is not the zelda of LOZ.
This was amazing! What a great, dramatic interpretation of an underappreciated game.
Absolutely splendid and magnificent arrangement.
The amount of time you took reminds me of a quote, "Rather than make haste, I took my time with it and learned to love the process."
Something along those lines. Either way, this upload is a blessing.
Not gonna lie, after almost 10 years of official symphonic concerts, I still hold a grudge on Nintendo for only orchestrating 1 song from this game so far. Great job on your arrangement tho, like your own spin on it
A 2D Zelda game like Metroid Dread would be very interesting
As a Zelda II: The Adventure of Link fan, if I only ever watched this before playing it..
Different story, but I think it's better than the original! Phenomenal job with all of this!
YO HE'S BACK
I would be totally fine with this being the plot of the live action Zelda movie.
Woohoo! How quickly are you planning to release the next videos? Is there a fixed schedule?
my opinion of zelda 2 has improvee considerably now. amazing epic orchestrated
Wow. Dude. Absolutely insane. This is incredible.
When you closely you hear the first threatening theme of Ganon.
Yo did you actually had orchestration education, i'm an european classical musician and i wanna tell you i like your work.
I wish the next Zelda game would be a remake of this title, actually it's the Zelda game that needs more than any other a remake
nice
Nice
WOW
1:19 well here is a better idea if he comes back or is found with any injury what so ever caurterise the wound imediatly that way he won't bleed out and you don't need to prepare any stakes
This is nice .
This is legendary work, my friend. Legendary.
MAGNIFICIENT... PLEASE KEEP UP THE AMAZING WORK
There is a distinct lack of orchestral Zelda II music. Thanks for this.
Omg wow I cam across my accident…this is my childhood game
Absolutely Beautiful, well worth the wait.
Man, your arrangements are amazing, I had forgotten how good they were
The Legend is *BACK*! And right on my birthday too. Ya love to see it 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Wow this was amazing. How does this not have more views?
This music be available in Spotify?
Oh my goodness, I'm a huge fan of your work on Link's Awakening (I've listened to your whole soundtrack arrangement hundreds of times) and had never seen you had started this project! Can't wait for your work on Temple Theme, one of my all-time favorite video games compositions ever. Keep it up, your job is magical as always!
Not the most subtly arranged/orchestrated, but not too bad.
Hmm roads must roll IS from Zelda after all. 😶😄🫠🤫
Glad to have you back!! This was well worth the wait :)
3:31 in other words "get the heck out while you still can"
This should be the title screen of a zelda 2 remake
So beautiful. I really felt this one
Unbelievable that this is the first time I'm finding your channel and your orchestral work of Zelda II's soundtrack. All of Zelda's music is amazing, but I've always enjoyed this one's so much. Your version is incredible. But that barely scratches the surface here. Your storytelling is phenomenal. I actually teared up at this narration. You have matched the story to the music so well. I could really feel the pain of Zelda, the heavy burden of duty, and the inner conflict Link must have felt leaving her side. As amazing as Nintendo's Zelda games are, their storytelling is far inferior to yours. Masterful work.
This is better than the actual game.
