The original Legend of Zelda is one of my all time favorites in the series because of how much freedom the game gives you to explore and discover things at your own leisure.
If the first Zelda game was made into a movie Ganon better be voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch or Frank Welker if he's going to be in his beast form the whole time
I love how Zelda's not just some damsel in distress, she's actually using sheer willpower to endure the worst torture ever. It gives her a lot more depth than just a plot device.
It's one of the things that makes her and all her incarnations so great. The fact she's a god become mortal also plays into that. She won't falter because she knows deep down there's a hero out there blessed by the gods that will have what it takes to win against evil. I think that's also why I love Breath of the Wild so much, in that story we see Hyrule and the power of the gods having waned to near nothing, yet both Link and Zelda remain paragons of their TriForce, Zelda was wise not to shut herself away and study but to try and understand the long lost power of their ancestors, she knew what she was forced to do was a waste of time and not helping her kingdom prepare. For a hundred years she struggled with Ganon to prevent him from taking over the entire world with his dark power, holding out for the day her mortally wounded knight would wake from his healing sleep and finish what was started. In Twilight Princess she waited in the throne room for their attackers with a royal rapier/estoc in hand. She wasn't going to stand there and do nothing as her people were attacked and her knights fought to protect her.
The original seems to have the most in common with Link's Awakening in terms of gameplay/gamefeel, even though the stories are very different. It's no wonder you like both of them a lot. :) Now, as for this masterpiece... What an INCREDIBLE feat this composition is! It gave me chills! It's worthy of Symphony of the Goddesses at the very least. The video was also masterfully created- but I've come to expect that from you. ;) It also hit my soul notes, since I just beat the original Zelda for the first time a couple days ago.
I can't believe it has been 30 years. Zelda is one of those games you just have to love. Its so great celebrating something like this on your birthday too. Its my birthday as well and I just recently found out it was on the same day. I found it so cool that its the same day.
Oh man, I ***LOVED*** the way you used the in-game stuff. When the song hit and that screen scrolled up, I felt ALL the feels. So good..... soooo good. Please don't stop making these
dude...I cannot tell you what this means to me. this...this is reaching into my soul. you've remastered the music of my childhood..puts me right back to that state of wonder I felt in the late 80's. this is brilliant. like...holy Santa clause shit this is epic. thank you...thank you thank you thank you. if I could post a pic..I would..of this tear falling from my eye. not even lying dude. this was beautiful. thank you.
I'm not sure I'd want to listen to this without the video. And that is REALLY SAYING SOMETHING since I listen to let's plays all the time without watching them! XD The first half of this anyway.
My mouth dropped open at the beauty of this hand-drawn sequence. If they ever do an original Zelda remake, I hope they use something similar to this and your score!
A truly amazing piece of music, thank you so much for sharing. The clip is also great, I turned down the lights to fully enjoy it. We might use some of your music in a podcast, if that's ok. Of course we'll link to you in the description!
This was fantastic! As a huge Zelda and orchestral music fan, I've heard them all.. Yet somehow you've made a completely new, different and unique sounding take on a classic piece! Loved it!
NES was such a special generation for gaming. Ppl who didn't grow up in late 80s/early 90s will never know how amazing this machine was back in it's time. Even when SNES was out it was still really fun to play on. I remember while playing through ALTTP for the first time I would also play LOZ on my NES. Good times! Edit: It's still really fun to play on to this day I have NES Classic, had Switch Online for a Year, and have my Wii U with games on it!
This is like the opening to a movie. Well, almost. If it was a cave wall, moving to another panel, and they're all cave paintings, with a voice narrating, it would be a movie moment
Sir SN, I wish you a happy birthday, you really deserve it. Oddly enough, you are the one that has been giving us an amazing gift! Thank you very much for your passion about music and for the tributes of these games that make us so nostalgic! Cya
I discovered your channel while looking for orchestral arrangements of the music from the Legend of Zelda games. I discovered your channel on your birthday, on the 33rd anniversary of the game. Thanks for your talent. I am a fan and now, a subscriber. I listen to your Zelda tracks almost daily, and each time still gives me the chills.
I love that you stayed so true to the original. I never felt even Nintendo themselves captured both the spirit and tone of original music as technology allowed for improved audio within the games. Sometimes you just want to hear the original with modern sound quality, what could have been but never was.
I listen to all of your LoZ1 arrangements at least once a day. When this video came out almost a year ago, I was ecstatic over the prospect of someone who understands the feel and the spirit of the original LoZ and its music to be re-orchestrating it. This is better than the 25th anniversary rendition, and I think it definitely has more heart behind it. Good job, and I look forward to Death Mountain's theme.
The only Zelda game I've ever played is Link's Awakening, but I really like this arrangement/video and am interested in more now! :-) High quality as usual. Happy Birthday!
I know I'm a pretty late on the release for this video, but this was absolutely amazing!! Your arrangements surprise me every time I listen to them. Instead of thinking, "Oh it's just another versions of the song with some different instruments," I think of it like "Holy crap!! It's fully re-orchestrated and sounds amazing!!" Your music is VERY inspiring!!
I'm actually making a small remake of Zelda 1 on a program called Zelda Classic. But I just couldn't figure out a good way to "remake" the original story. So, I was wondering if I could use yours? But without the drawings and the music. I just loved how you made the story more complex without really changing it. I would give you credit of course.
Headcanon of the original game: Zelda dies when link finally saves her, leaving him to tend to the kingdom alone. But then the sleeping princess is revealed, and the epic news of zelda 2 begins! This kinda fixes the weird feeling most people had with two princess zeldas at once. Most people wonder what happened to the first one? This fixes this problem in a satisfying way especially from a story and character building perspective.
I might use it in the near future once I know how to do stuff on a computer. I recently played the original Zelda on the Nintendo Switch and now I’m trying to play all Zelda games since I enjoyed the original
Born in June 1986 - Sometimes I watched my neighbours play Zelda on NES but never had the chance to do it myself, nevertheless, in 1992 with A Link To The Past the personal value of fantasy in the very aspect of aesthetics "how wondrous images define life's beauty" was born - So, yeah, in a certain way I miss the childhood I had in those days, particularly when your own imagination carried whole parts of Hyrule, which I hardly can retrieve on the 3D games, resp. every game after Link's Awakening. With Ocarina of Time and the following parts the solid core of THE Zelda-Story broke into motley pieces. Also - except some promotionaI artworks - I never wanted Hyrule associated with the cuddly manga/anime style - Back then - no everyones world wide web - things were rare, even common merchandising products, I had several Nintendo magazines including one with a Valiant Zelda Comic, but my young heart leapt on the highest level when the Zelda TV cartoon was shown. - Unfortunately, its simple style and its even more naive contents are the main issues why many people excessively hate it. - But seeing it through the eyes of a chilld that's basically more interested in significant images than conceptional relations between characters and suddenly gets aware of the simple and pure fact that there is a cartoon of its favourite game making a rare appearance on TV is a special moment . Thank you for this beautiful interpretation of THE melody :-)
Happy Birthday! I've been been tuning in since the start of the Link's Awakening project and I've loved every moment of your work. Any chance of you doing Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons?
this is very good. Though i don't hear the opening intro when you start the game that had that sad sound and epicness to it in this till 4min in still sounds to happy. Your 5:16 violin solo is great! would wonder how it would feel not with strings but some other instrument... - The 6:25 double intro sounds upbeat - nothing about this gives me a solemn sadness or cold haunting intro.
This makes the original story seem so much more epic.
it's that epic tho
RinkuSonic41 - りんくそにっく 24 I think he meant the music enhanced it.
So epic, that I almost cry :')
@@Drakshara I do cry, literally every time I come back to this. Like EVERY time. I swear.
This was the story in the instruction manual if you read it. Didn't go into as much detail, but in general the same.

The cringy gibberish kinda ruins it. They should have used the updated version.
The way you implemented the NES Death Mountain theme sends chills up my spine every time.
me too
I love how Zelda's not just some damsel in distress, she's actually using sheer willpower to endure the worst torture ever. It gives her a lot more depth than just a plot device.
I wish Nintendo would remake Zelda 1 and add some additional plot and in depth character to the game
I wish people would stop virtue-signalling so much.
