Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com! Today, we’re taking a swig of the Moonshine V2 from JHS Pedals. The Moonshine V2 is a highly versatile gain machine that spits in the face of transparent overdrives everywhere, forcefully imposing its will on the rest of your rig. The core of the Moonshine V2 is a mids-heavy gain engine that has been carefully crafted to distill the maximum gain range while still retaining a smooth finish. The innards of the Moonshine V2 are juiced by 18 volts of power from a standard nine volt power supply, thanks to a handy charge pump that raises the headroom. This extra headroom greatly increases the stacking ability of the Moonshine V2, letting it run at any point in your dirt arsenal or towards the front of the amp for a seamless signal boost right before the tubes. The newest batch of Moonshine dramatically increases the gain range by adding a clean Blend control that splits the signal into two pathways and then recombines them at the output, letting you dial in just the right amount of gain. This Blend control works like gangbusters when combined with the Proof switch, which changes between the stock Moonshine V2 setting and a fiery, high gain setting with tons of sustain and an extra helping of mids. When used with the Blend control and the wide-range Drive knob, you can dial in every flavor of gain from gentle sparkle to a rowdy dirt monster that will get your amp in a headlock. And just like all JHS pedals, the Moonshine V2 is designed and made right here in the States.
I'm still waiting for Andy to release his own line of guitar picks.
That's his secret, guys, the tone he gets from his invisible pick.
Andy’s picking hand technique is the best I’ve ever seen
I like the Clean Blend concept. Why not allow your Pristine Guitar Tone, to Mix with your Overdriven tone. I believe it will add sparkle, breath, clarity, and individual string definition. Sounded great to me (but Andy can make an empty tuna can - sound great).
i like clean blend concept too
I normally roll my eyes at yet another overdrive pedal, but the Moonshine v2 has something special going on, IMO. For $200, tho, I'd rather build my own.
I have always appreciated my JHS Pulp and Peel but didn't really get into any other JHS stuff. This pedal and the Series 3 Delay have become mainstays on my board with the Pupl and Peel and Morning Glory. Love it.
This guys right hand technique is awesome
Your mum’s right hand technique is pretty sweet as well.
JHS started off modding other company's pedals, for their customers, so they naturally started cloning pedals when they introduced their own pedal line, ..........but oh how they do tweak them...so well! Great pedals and some innovated new stuff too!
I've bought a few of their fizzes and a signature Andy Timmons "@" pedal.. Killer pedal! This sucker sounds freaking great..
Avalanche1368 I've been eying that @t pedal myself. Might have to pull the trigger.
Andy once again makes me like anything I didn't first like. This sounds awesome!
This must be perfect for gain stacking, being able to dial in the blend of the gains seperate from the drive control
Treyvon Marteen it is. I have the sweet tea and stacking this with the Angry Charlie is insane
I use it to boost my EVH 5150 by MXR for solos and it sounds AMAZING!!
The Way Huge Saucy Box does something similar - but it's like a soft-clipping Klone when gained-up, not Tubescreamer-y. Amazing stacking pedal. They also make a HC (hard clipping) model but it's limited, maybe only 500 ever made.
The regular Saucy Box will never leave my board. The Moonshine may soon join it!
Massive rich harmonics on this pedal...
Surprised the toggle switch isn't footswitchable, like the other v.2 JHS pedals. I've found it really handy on my Superbolt v.2.
I have the double barrel, and you can control with a aux button
Man this sounds really good. Natural
Great playing. Great demo.
tone at 4:45 is perfect
Adds width to the sound. Gets rid of the thin distortion sound.
I'm sold!!
Sounds awesome :)
That de-tuned section sounded like QOTSA. Very nice
Yup heard some Mexicola in there 🤘
What is the detuned song you play at the end? Amazing....
v1 is one of my favorite od's but not sure I need the clean control really.
wow excellent !!
Sounds great. What's the last song you played? The heavier, chuggy one.
First. Thumbs me up instead of the guy who was actually first.
me gusto esta padre felicidades saludos chao y me gusta las canciones que tocas xiao
...in my humble opinion, feels like "revolution" or "helter skelter".
Last song?
I also want to know!
Hey Andy, do you take requests? Because that would be sick.
More Rage Against the Machine and some Tool riffs every once in a while would be sick. Hell, and Andy Pantera cover would me amazing.
Sounds very "Neil Youngish" to me! Nice pedal.
Hey my moonshine is used but it sounds way brighter and harsh compared to a stock ts808 ? Is there any reason mine would do that? Maybe it's the 18 volts . I can't seem to tame this high end fizz sound in it ? Much help appreciated
Eric Oglesby probably has to do with your amp. You need to match your od to your amp. Some are great matches some not so much. Also your pickups can make a huge difference with drives
Does anyone know what the name of the first song was?
What was the amp used here?
stratboy2 Fender deluxe reverb reissue.
Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue?
Yes, for quite some time now. Thanks!
Yes, if you watched the video you would have seen the DRRI listed as the amp being played through....
sounds like tone rolled down :(
2nd
First
Last to get laid
Couldn't get along with this pedal. Seemed to completely bury my tone....This was a crash course lesson in non-transparent signal paths....
thats because its not a transparent drive... its a tube screamer...
That's why the "clean blend" knob enters the chat!
