Sure, those old hands stumble a few times, but his interpretation of this piece is one of the finest I've ever heard. The lightness of touch, and the profound soulful nature of his playing is incredibly moving. Bravo, maestro.
The total control, the levels of color and shading in this interpretation would be stunning from a pianist a quarter his age. At 94, it's almost inconceivable and that much more glorious.
I recall taking a couple of coaching sessions with him nearly 40 years ago, when he was in his prime. He was very helpful, if a little intimidating. He knew how to elicit attention to detail quickly, saying for example during one passage that I was playing like a man with no ears. One thing may be said without any doubt: HE HAD EARS. This was the basis of his outstanding reputation as a chamber musician---------along with a tremendous amount of work. It is still evident in this performance.
Wonderful performance. Though he doesn't play the piece picture perfect, I it's beautiful to think of all the past moons hes seen and how hes playing with all those emotions through his old hands. After all, Clair de Lune = Moonlight
This is the first time I have listened to Menahem Pressler and his performance was outstanding regardless of age. It always amazes me how a piece can sound so different from one musician to another. On top of that each piano and auditorium contribute their unique influence on the ‘colours’ we hear. It feels like today you gave me a present yet it is your birthday, congratulations on your 95th orbit of the solar system.
I just found out about him today, the first time i listened to the sound of his touch is really touching the soul, so sad that he passed away a week ago and i just found out about him today RIP 😔
As. Vaya un gran aplauso.😊❤
Before I scrolled down, I thought: If only Maestro Debussy could hear Maestro Pressler play this piece. Then I scrolled down and saw that Mr. David Mckinney beat me to the punch. And I scrolled down further and saw that he beat me to the punch again: His timing is impeccable. May I add that he played it with his very soul - and perhaps that of Debussy's also. Oops, I just read where Mr. Andrew Soerby mentioned 'soulful nature.' Simply amazing!!
Dear Grand Pa, I spent my teenage life to share with you from how you teach life and always pick me up from school. I am happy to be your grand daughter. There are much time I consider to wishing that I'm gonna share my happiness till I married, but this year God much give a love to you. He took you without anybody's permission. I hope you fill in peace and find grand mother at there and let both of you seeing us in here have a piece and happy life. For the shake of both of you. Lately, this music has bring me alot of joy and sorrow but yet bring me piece. And when I saw this video, he play it with heart and he suddenly reminds me to you. If only you still here, but life say it other.
Mr. Pressler confirms that a gentle touch and sublime interpretation shines much farther than bombastic bravado. The exquisite beauty of shading he brings to this piece made me believe I was hearing it for the first time. Magnificent experience.
I see comments saying he isn't playing this perfectly but I don't really notice wrong notes or anything. But this is my favorite interpretation of this piece especially the part at 2:30
Thank you for your beautiful Clair de Lune , Maestro Menahem Pressler. Looking for the Moonlight with tearly eyes. Unfortunately, no Moon tonight here, but our Maestro showed us how it shines.
I must say that Mr. Pressler's version of "Clair de Lune", was the most touching rendition That I have heard. It's so soothing calming to me. Bravo Sir, Bravo!
Many classical pieces are beautiful, anywhere in the period from Bach to Strauss through the centuries. But this one by Debussy is special because it’s making you seat in absolute silence and when it’s done you forgot what you were doing. Captivating, just like Pressler.
My favorite piece of all time. It always takes me to another place in my mind and you performed it beautifully. Beautiful touch and emotion. Bravo Thank you for sharing.
This is a performance that allows the listener to hear the piece as coherent, a single conception. A few trivial errors are eminently ignorable. This is music: far better than technical perfection. The player's humility and commitment are audible throughout.
Yes Paul, it is indeed such a remarkable performance of the master Menahem Pressler.👍👍👍 I just recently enjoyably watched an interesting jazz reharmonized version of Clair de Lune by a pianist named Valerie Handani. I hope you will enjoy as well. 😊🎹
The most beautiful and deeply felt playing of this piece I've ever heard. No need to rush through everything like so many musicians do nowadays just to show their technical prowess.
My understanding is that those who have presbyopia usually get to maintain their distance vision when they get old whereas those with myopia usually get to maintain their close vision when they get old. I'm guessing he only needs reading glasses for close reading, and the score being quite far away only requires distance vision to see clearly.
To be 94 and still having this in his fingers is a small miracle. Rest in Peace, grand Maestro.
Great miracles!
Divine,not small miracle
He is 94 years old 👏👍
yet his sound is full of freshness and childish dream...
I’m hardwarmed by the fact he’s still alive today at age 97
99 now and still kicking.
When older people play the piano it is more genuine and raw. More emotions and more experience. Rest in peace you will never be forgotten.
Sure, those old hands stumble a few times, but his interpretation of this piece is one of the finest I've ever heard. The lightness of touch, and the profound soulful nature of his playing is incredibly moving.
Bravo, maestro.

@@ThomasDawkins88 Yes indeedy Thomas. I'm 22 years younger than this pianist, so there is hope for me still....
Bravo ! el maestro
The emotion and beautiful rendering is way more important than each tiny note being 100% accurate.
'Forget the 'stumble'!😲 He was absolutely FANTASTIC! ('Just my opinion, I guess...😟)
Claude Debussy would be proud of him playing.
I am not sure.
I’m so glad to be human.
When you are this old, it’s like being child again because when you play people say “he’s good despite his age”
ha ha ha, I love your comment.
Life is a circle... he’s come full circle; wonderful
Hahahahaha
never thought of this ur so right
Those old hands still have the magic in them..
Maestro, you will be missed. Thank you for the memories. R.I.P. 🙏
RIP Maestro. We are truly grateful for this wondrous piece.
100% heart.
How BEAUTIFUL life is to have such wonderful music
He does the best job I've ever heard of this before.. his timing and speed is impeccable.. the best..
Not really impeccable but very poetic
I agree wholeheartedly. The delivery is perfection

His emotions are flowing through his fingers onto the piano keys. Incredible!

I agree. Congratulations, Sir, on the 95th 💫 orbit . And the most delightful rendition.
A very humble and a dignified gentleman, we will miss you..!

I really like the closeups of the audience. 1:30 is how i feel whenever this plays calms me down no matter what mood.

I am not sure what Debussy would think of this. But o.k. , with 94 years.
@@hansdekorver7365 I'm obivously not sure either, but for this plebian I just loved it.
Touches my heart. Such a sensitive beauty from those wonderful old hands.
The only song that penetrates the mind no matter what mood, the 3rd fifth or one hundredth time of listening to it.
His rendition of this piece is my favorite

God just thrives in the hands of some people. This is the best rendition I have ever heard. Believe me I have heard this many many times on RUclips.
He’s brilliant
God had nothing to do with it.

I wish to have heard him play while he was alive. 💔
Thank you for your beautiful Clair de Lune , Maestro Menahem Pressler. Looking for the Moonlight with tearly eyes. Unfortunately, no Moon tonight here, but our Maestro showed us how it shines.
The best interpretation ever of Debussy's masterpiece.
That was so beautiful. Love. Clair de Lune. Reminds me of my brother.
I'm inTears😢. 94 years old! God bless this man🙏🏾 Beautiful👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
What a beautiful way of entering in adulthood, serenity, peaceful, above the bumps coming out from competences and showings.
I must say that Mr. Pressler's version of "Clair de Lune", was the most touching rendition That I have heard. It's so soothing calming to me. Bravo Sir, Bravo!
He caresses the keys to entice them to make music. Inspiration beyond words, only notes...

Every note is clear, precise, and expressive. I am transported to another world!
Enthralling performance. I was privileged to hear Pressler at the Boston Symphony. He has a divine touch.
Beautiful! Absolutely just beautiful! Makes me fall in love!

Wonderful dynamics, expressive timing. So fluid. Beautiful rendition!

Reading the sheet without prescription glasses at this age, are you kidding me :-) Thank you master.
I'm sure that he can play the whole composition without the sheet
