Daniel Barenboim in a previous video (a masterclass with Yang Yang) stated that music can never be a profession; it is a way of life.

I have the same reaction. He's not only a much better pianist than me, he has a far better understanding of the structure of the music; I just read the notes and try to hit them.

Not to only indulge ourselves in this pieces' nice melody and atmosphere but he teaches us to understand the logic behind it which authenticates its mastery.

i now understand why debussy was once titled as the 'monet of piano', his pieces are phrased so beautifully yet still robust and firm, it is beautiful how he can shape it using odd chords or phrasing/rhythms in his pieces which can complement other phrases in unimaginable ways. He is an impressionist of music.

Daniel Barenboim has already left a legacy in ways I do not even know - but as an exponent of Beethoven, conductor of the best orchestras... He is also known for being married to Jacqueline du Pre who passed away far too soon (MS).

Because they are familiar with Debussy's score and recognize that Barenboim 's rhythm here is incorrect, and what's more, disgracefully so.

@@kitbeethoven no. he's saying this is what *I* notice about it - Debussy would be the first to agree that no piece of music is a formula that must be precisely followed - also I find myself appreciating the piece even more after this little insight into the chord progression: mission accomplished

I still smile when I remember how young and funny you were while rehearsing in London 1969 for that once in a lifetime chance performance of the Trout Quintet with those other 4 great talents. I was only 2 years old then, I wish I could have been in the audience.
