Nothing in this world is more attractive, than a beautiful Woman who can sit at a piano and play like that. The feeling put into this is magic. I could watch it all day.
I once had a debate with a friend whose piano teacher had (allegedly) studied with Debussy. According to this teacher, Debussy insisted that Claire de Lune must be played in strict adherence to the time signature/meter. Well, said I, that's fine if you want sound like a mechanical reproduction. But if you want to sound like a human being with an iota of emotion, you will play it as the music moves you. Now THIS was...Human! Thank you so very much for daring to be fully human in your expression of this master piece.
I don’t think there’s a single rendition of this piece by a professional, well-renowned pianist where it is not played with rubato and feeling. I defy that piano teacher, or anyone, find one.
Your friend's piano teacher is full of shit. He annotated rubato on the sheet music and his own version recorded on piano roll is significantly faster throughout than any version you'll find today. So if intent was really "strict adherence" then everybody isn't mirroring the composer and it's being played "wrong" anyway.
An exquisite performance! She has quite simply cast a spell on the audience. It takes some time for the reverie to lift and applause to follow. Brilliantly moving.
This song brings me to tears and vulnerability because it reminds me of my childhood, when the hurts & chaos of life haven't really come yet. When our family was united and at peace with each other. It was the song I heard at that time. In the 1980's.
