The conductor sweats every note, that's what I call work ethic. How does a musician in a grand orchestra feel when he plays such delicate tunes, they can't allow themselves to drown in sentimentality and pathos, every expression of their trembling bodies has to be 100% accurate and yet convey the deepest emotions. And this is required of every and the last musician, they can't let themselves get carried away as a group neither, drifting from here to there. How does this organism breath with such controlled precision and yet create such stunning emotional movements, rising and falling, a sea of longing and torment.
Agreed. Every musician in this group possesses stunning emotional connection to the work. Lovely in every sense of the word. Deeply moving. Thank you for the beautiful summation of this profound piece of art.
I am part of a couple of orchestras. I cannot put into words what it is like. Very... transcendental, like you are a small part of a machine, not unnatural but rather organic. Like you are part of a bigger plan and you can see it all coming together around you. Like you matter and what you say matters, even if nobody understands it, they feel it, like you're speaking but not talking and somehow everyone knows. It makes you feel big and small at the same time; individual and part of a group. It's hard to explain.
I am 61 years of age and have only discovered this wonderful piece of music in the last couple of years ( since gaining access to utube ). The more I keep watching/ listening ,the more fonder and appreciative I find myself of it.
It really is an incredible piece of music. I had the privilege of watching the Royal Scottish National Orchestra perform this last night and it's an experience I'll never forget. It's so moving.
I’ve been listening to this piece for over 30 years and it’s never too late to start. Between this piano concerto and Rachmaninov’s second symphony, you’re in for a lifelong treat.
It's one of the reasons why I love to hear this woman play. Some have criticized her tempo as "ponderously slow." My advice to those is to get some help for their ADD.
Both the soloist, and the orchestra are brilliant. I’ve heard this piece played a million times, I’ve even played it from within the orchestra, and there are things I hear in this live concert that I’ve never heard before. Wow!
Bravo! Rachmaninoff was a genius when it comes to turning raw emotion into music. How can you not shed tears when listening to this concerto? This music ascends into Heaven.
J'aime beaucoup Rachmaninof je l'écoute souvent avant de dormir et je m'evade, avec le vent, la pluie l'orage, puis le calme revient un oiseau prend son envol et chante, la musique raconte son histoire
This is a tremendous concert, the performers and the pianist are great! I think this masterpiece has the power to translate beauty, tenderness and strengh! The third section for me is quite fantastic! Thanks, God to inspire human race to create and to perform such art's work. For me, music is always filling my soul - when sometimes, gray days insist on hiding Sun's light! People who loves music are not 'all by themselves'!

To me, the most haunting moment was when she turns her head towards the sound of the clarinet in the first few bars, just after the flute speaks; it is an eternal moment I'll never forget. Her response to this sound was perfect when the voice of her soul leaked from her fingers onto the keys. Thank you for such a wonderful recording.
One of my favorite things about her is how she interacts with the orchestra. She always engages with them and you get the sense that she's really listening to them and enjoying their playing, not just thinking about her next note. It's beautiful to see this kind of exchange and cohesion.
this reminds me of the first clarinet lesson i ever had with a professional and he made me prioritize rhythm and this just reminded me of that amazing memory.

Wow. An amazing performance by a terrific orchestra, conductor, and out-of-this-world pianist. The clarinet solos - superb. Khatia just rocks in this performance. Wonderful touch, sensitivity, and timing.
@@dan_thepianoman4401 I wouldn't say similar. It's the same thing 1:40 Do you think they added the song here? Or did Celine Dion plagiarize Rachmaninoff?
There are so many reasons to love Khatia .... first and foremost is her wonderful music / God knows how I love to hear her play / and she has a really good heart.
Lovely interpretation. I personally would have taken the coda a little quicker and powerful at the beginning but the whole piece is done very well. Bravo.
It's strange, I have been watching this same concert in full on another channel. I thought they were the same based on the date, the orchestra, the hall, the conductor, and the red dress Khatia was wearing, but the camera work was completely different. The way the camera was moving, the angle, and the close-up were just top-notch in this one, it felt like the camera was moving with the music and focusing on the right place at the right time. It's a shame I don't see that in the other video although that was a complete concert and this one is only the 2nd movement. They both have the logo arteHD, I would think they are from the same producer so how can it be so different. Perhaps they make two different cuts out of the same concert. I hope 新象共用 or someone who has this version can upload the complete concert. It adds so much more visually to the video.
What Yo-yo Ma is calling projections are really cantilevers emanating from the sounds that actually reach the ear-drums. Largest cantilevers are in the silent pauses, deliberately put in by the composers.
@@Prod.Protonic True, in the sense that the song composer mistakenly thought Rach II was in the public domain. He ended up having to pay royalties to Rach's estate.

There should be a law forbidding RUclips to place ads in the middle of an Rachmaninoff concerto.
Commercials in the middle of Taylor Swift, fine. Rach? No. KHATIA? Never!
I just had an unstoppable ad of 15 secs for Tampax...

Rachmaninoff’s 2nd piano concerto is my favourite piece of music. Followed closely by his 3rd. I don’t expect that to change in my lifetime.
The bit at 9:25 is almost too gorgeous. I love the tempo, I love hearing them hang onto every note.
