I'm playing this piece, too... Hearing Yuja's interpretation live in Aix en Provence I was surprised like not often before in my musical life. Vikingur Olafsson played a fantastic rendition of all Glass-etudes, but Yuja was the first who doesn't play only an etude...she made MUSIC!!! Her incomparable pianissimo and her highly powerful fortissimo are unique. Btw. instead of Glass' (boring) tempo 132 she and Vikingur Olafsson (...and me, too) is playing tempo 172. Philip Glass seems to like it, because he posted Yuja's interpretation on his own Facebook-Account.

I have watched every Philip Glass etude number 6 video I can find on RUclips and this is by far my favorite. Of course the recording is outstanding, but Ms. Wang's performance is intense and perfect. Saved to my favorites!
on top of being a musical genius talent wise she's a CLASS act. Let's just appreciate all the difficult, thousands of hrs of practice she put in to give us this gift of Artistry.
Music is what you make of it. She makes an otherwise uninteresting mundane piece sublime. Yuja is the crème de la crème of the current crop of classical pianists.
I attended her concert here in Chicago Symphony Orchestra hall about 12 years ago. That was the time I first heard her name. I thought that was not a human being, they were faking it with a robot. Like what people said: from then on, the rest is history.😅
I have to assume that you've never heard of Arvo Pärt or John Adams, to name just two serious contemporary composers who leave Philip Glass in the dust. He has written some very nice movie scores, though.
@@excelsior999 I've heard of both. I have multiple Arvo Pärt CDs, and I'm not overly fond of Adams' music which, though heavily influenced by Glass, doesn't appeal to me because l usually prefer "pure" classical in its own lane and 20th century minimalism in its own lane. The mix of the two - as practiced by Adams - is jarring, in my opinion. Arvo Pärt, while minimalist, is heavily influenced by other composers whom l love, especially Shostakovich. I also love Górecki and respect Tavener but Glass is the ultimate composer of minimalist classical music to me.
Clearly an exceptionally gifted and brilliant pianist. As for her dress- I like it and it seems very practical for an open-air concert held in the summer months!

So lovely! I'm surprised that Glass decided to reach a cadential point in the phrases. It must've been life-changing, since he's devoted so muc of his effort in avoiding cadential points.

Yes, that's what I want also. She needs to compose at least 1 or 2 major pieces of music to complete her "resume" and a claim to greatness. 1 or 2 "phenom" students wouldn't hurt either!
@@timshank3328 There is a "Master Class" 🙄 that she gave a few years ago which is on RUclips. It was very thin - nothing like the Master Classes conducted by, say, Sir Andras Schiff, Leon Fleischer, or even Lang Lang, which are also on YT.
Cette pianiste balaye très large dans son choix des musiques interprétées, du contemporain au classique. Son succès internional n est pas le fruit du hasard.
The concert was broadcast on German television, and Wang was interviewed afterwards. During the interview, she wore a Rolex on her left arm, which was constantly in the picture. Wang has been advertising for Rolex for a long time. She also advertises Dior by wearing Dior stage dresses. Perhaps she will bring a suitcase on stage with her soon, as she also advertises Rimowa. Hardworking girl, this Miss Wang.
Actually Glass took his music beyond the mere emotions with Buddhist truth, in seeing that all phenomena are ultimately equal in the illusion of this life. This piece should not be played expressing passion, but in the "one taste"beyond it, that is the real genius of Glass's work.

Gotta love the attitude of the orchestra's member at 2:29 just behind. She closes her eyes and just bathes into this moment fully. Just wow.
