      I have a Lansky, Spyderco, and a Worksharp. I’m giving the Lansky to my nephew, and keeping the other two. Once I learned how to use the Worksharp, I was able to put some nice edges down. My best knives only see the Spyderco. One slip with the Worksharp, you can booger up a sweet blade really quick.

    Hello from Kansas too (KC area)! Just picked one up on the secondary market, really excited to try out the Shaman. Was waiting for a sprint run but came across a like new one without a ridiculous mark up.
    Recently got back into knives and caught a couple of your vids... Good stuff man, keep up the good work.

    I never did jump on the Spyderco bandwagon, because I did not like the shape of the blades, for the most part. Then I see knifes like this one, and the Manix 2. It got me to looking at them, and realize they are very nice knives. My next purchase will be a Manix 2 XL.

  • @jonduncansakurawallknifegarden
    @jonduncansakurawallknifegarden 4 года назад

    I wanted to know if it was sharper on the non stonewashed versions, and if there were any upgrades. I have been avoiding m4 and rex45 out of my own needs and uses - might be a more interesting steel than I originally imagined. Whenever I see tool steel, I think of my drawers of hammers and screwdrivers and and wonder what makes the steel better than my 1095 which was made to sharpen. Anything I sharpen that isn’t 1095, takes a little bit of slow driving before I hit the freeway. I just didn’t like the idea of having to sharpen for so long- I sharpen Bohler constantly and haven’t had a problem with it yet, but I haven’t had any knicks, rolls, or holes made in the edge. I love my Bohler Blades, more than any other steel that I have, and I came into it, return to collect all steel types I could. This gives me more confidence about sharpening tool steel- I just hate having to clean my blade so often, when I try to use it often, and for any little excuse I can find. For a guy who opens his bags of chips with a knife, I think I should be weary about what steels I use, because I keep them oiled and I still get spots if I don’t clean any staining steel like d2 right away. I also live on the California coast, so having any kind of knife that will stain, will definitely staying within a couple days. I never watch reviews of the same knife, with just a different blade steel because you can kind of put that review together in your head. But this was good to get some extra insight and it wasn’t just the same review with you telling us it’s a different steel type. Sometimes I feel like I want my money back when all the information that I could’ve gotten from a video came directly from the title screen and there was nothing else added. Thanks for sharing

    Rex 45 is the best steel on the market right now. It’s insane. Spyderco’s best steel release of all time, hands down

    • @qdp03
      @qdp03 3 года назад

      How does it compare to M4 and Cruwear?

    • @manifestgtr
      @manifestgtr 3 года назад +3

      Cruwear is currently the “best steel on the market” imo. Easy to sharpen, takes a hair obliterating edge, feels nice and buttery on the stones, good retention, good toughness, can be stropped back to life. If you’re a freehand sharpener (which, let’s face it, *every* knife fan should be), no other super steel comes close, imo. K390 and the rex steels are great, too...they’re just a different kind of great. Nevertheless, cruwear is king. No other steel makes me half as happy.

    • @optimuscrime608
      @optimuscrime608 3 года назад

      @@manifestgtr Cruwear is ok. Not even close to Rex45 though. The problem is no one can do it right. Spyderco and benchmades cruwear blows.

    • @manifestgtr
      @manifestgtr 3 года назад +1

      @@optimuscrime608
      Wait, what? Spyderco treats their cruwear in the 61-62 range which is widely regarded to be its sweet spot...at least in all the reputable circles I follow. I’m sure benchmade does the same. My cruwear stuff has been phenomenal...I don’t know what else you could *possibly* be looking for unless it’s a model that neither company is offering...

    • @jameshuggins4300
      @jameshuggins4300 4 года назад

      That's the thing about sprint runs I don't like. The regular shaman is already in my upper price range that I can afford. Then you can't get one of these even if you wanted to because they get sold out in minutes!

    The factory edge is a poor indication of how a steel will perform as you probably already know.

    • @cody3078

      True, though it only gets better. So if he’s impressed with a factory edge than that’s a strong endorsement. It’s more if something performs poorly
