In this video we tried to answer a question 'Is this town the worst in the UK'. Such a question appears regularly in media space, but there is no simple answer on it.

I am from Aylesbury and currently live in Southampton, another place unreasonably derided. I have lived all over the country and visited every major city and hundreds of towns and villages. There are places I loved and places I have counted down the minutes to leave. Aylesbury is far from the worst place, the trouble is, as you stated, most people who moan about Aylesbury have barely travelled out, and as the crime rate suggests, it it the people that are the problem, not the town.

I live in Aylesbury and this video does not accurately reflect the traffic load on the roads which in reality is horrendous. Personally I believe it's this issue that is causing many residences to vote in this poll. The council see fit to rapidly expand the housing in the town (an extra 11.5 thousand extra homes by 2030) in their Local Plan without providing convincing solutions to the already overstretched infrastructure.

    • @LetsexploreUKtogether
      @LetsexploreUKtogether  2 года назад +1

Thank you for comment. Yes, I didn't touch traffic issues in this video. However, I have based all data on the open sources, and also conducted my own mini-survey in Aylesbury Facebook group. Most of those who voted on FB didn't mention traffic problems. Just few people, if I remember correctly. Anyway, thank you for sharing your view 🙂

  • @DeltaEASyt
    @DeltaEASyt Год назад +2

I think the traffic is the problem. Your journey will always be slower if you choose to go through Aylesbury than if you choose to go a longer route that avoids it

    • @LetsexploreUKtogether

Thank you for comment. Many people have the same opinion about traffic in Aylesbury. That's a huge disadvantage of the town.

    Hello dear all,
** Please read if you consider to live in Aylesbury! **
I am not from Aylesbury and not even an English born, I am British why I am saying this I have nothing to prove to this place or residents, I think voting Aylesbury as worse place in the UK absolutely irrational, unrealistic as well as disturbing. Let me explain why…
*Aylesbury is an old little town and since 2012 (please correct me if I am wrong on this date) town and council has excessive housing developments projects all around of the town.
*This is also because Aylesbury has very convenient location, which called commuter belt, little town has 3 train lines that put you heart of London within 40-50mins these are ; Aylesbury town, Aylesbury Vale, Stoke Mandeville.
*Lately Aylesbury become preferable location for first time buyers and Londoners, due to affordability and convenience of the house conditions. Many first time buyers are not available to but a “project house” (old house to refurbish) as project houses needs good amount of cash on top of mortgage deposit and this is not very a common case for first time buyers.
For Londoners it’s convenient on location and commuting.
    * Aylesbury’s official crime rate reported as 80/1000
Checked some well known towns/cities official crime rates:
    Oxford 81/1000
    Cambridge 84/1000
    Windsor 81/1000
    And some worse rated/knows areas:
    Slough 100/1000
    Peterborough 89/1000
    West Yorkshire 114/1000
Which clearly doesn’t makes Aylesbury worse place to live.
    * I think this rating comes with either new comers to the town or town’s old residents,
*if you are a new comer from London to Aylesbury and expecting to find Mayfair / Soho in Aylesbury this is not going to happen. This expectation never ever lead you anywhere in the UK and you will be unrealistic about your expectations. Anywhere out of of London is pretty much countryside or town like places in the entire UK.
    * New comers can also complain about traffic, this is understandable due to city expanded significantly and got many new residence since covid started! This inevitably brings traffic jam highly likely town wasn’t really ready to handle influx of new residents+drivers
*Housing market in Aylesbury super dynamic, there are houses sold within hours in certain locations! Based on my conversations South court, Walton court, Manor park areas are not very recommended, Stoke Mandeville Hospital areas, Bedgrove , Broughton areas in South Aylesbury, Berryfields in North Aylesbury are listed as sought after locations. You can find tidy, clean and affordable houses. Houses are gaining good market value as well.
    * For old Residents it can be overwhelming as town is welcoming many new faces and families within short period this is not a surprise as so many housing projects still in process and council committed to complete Aylesbury Garden City project, there are many more enhancements planned for this little town. All this developments and enhancements can be hard to digest for people whom choose the town for it’s village characteristics and this might lead complaints.
To be honest any newly build towns has this objections from their residents check out Milton Keynes.
*I also checked comments entered to this “unofficial survey” people are truly judging other people by their looks very offensive way… I detest to read such brutal comments about other people’s features. I hope people with such hateful thoughts are only driving by and not living in Aylesbury.
*Stoke Mandeville Hospital is well established Global Hospital for spinal injuries.
“Stoke Mandeville Hospital and the National Spinal Injuries Centre (NSIC) are renowned worldwide for the successful treatment of spinal injuries and as the birthplace of the Paralympic movement“
    pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31808464/
    *Town has great village locations,
Wendover, Aston Clinton, Waddesdon, Tring, and you are only step away from countryside.
Conclusion: More I think more I realise that this rating is very unfair to a developing town, let it grow and glow.
I will be happy if you reply with your thoughts. Thank you x

Aylesbury is fine. It's not gracious living by any means, but it's perfectly fine. It does look a bit urbanised compared to the villages that surround the town and badly needs facilities to keep up with expansion.

I think Aylesbury is a good place to live because the people places safety on the road are very good in the area everyone I've spoken to say the drug and crime has been very low and even drug dealers are very worried about drug dealing in Aylesbury every dealer that steps foot in Aylesbury get nicked no one want to even consider coming to Aylesbury so if that's not getting a result I will add the transportation is so much often buses and trains are very often and the places are very interesting to visit ..I love the canals route what a site I say no Aylesbury is no by far the worst place and just one train to London Marylebone 👍💯💯❤❤

Aylesbury has wonderful surrounding countryside and one of best Grammar Schools in country. the town centre has lost a lot of history with redevelopment. Like many SE towns it is now an urban sprawl of housing estates and retail parks. There is a park in town centre, swimming pool, theatre, cinema many new restaurants. Nonsense poll. PS work on pronunciation of Waddesdon and Rothschild,,
