Connecting an Xbox One controller to your Windows 10 computer is easy to do and allows you to play games without using the keyboard or mouse.
First you have to have the right kind of controller. There are two different variations but they look very similar. This is the old style that won’t work. You can tell by looking at the top of the controller. On the older controller the top part around the power button is separate from the main body of the controller.
When compared with a current controller the face of the newer controller is all one piece molded around the power button. This is the controller you’ll need to connect to your PC wirelessly.
To start connecting your controller to your PC make sure you have batteries in your controller. On your Windows 10 computer go to the Search bar and type in Bluetooth. You don’t have to type in the whole word because it’ll probably pop up with just the first two characters. Now click on the Bluetooth and Other Devices Settings. Then click on the Add Bluetooth or Other Device button.
Now is the time to turn on the Xbox controller. In this video I'm using a brand new controller so it's not synched to anything so the power light just blinks. Next step is to press the Sync button at the top of the controller until the power light blinks quickly. On the computer, click on the top Bluetooth option to add a device.
The Xbox controller should now show up in a list of nearby devices. And when you click on the Xbox Wireless Controller button the power button will stop blinking and the controller is now connected wirelessly to the computer and ready to use. There are lots of games that can be used with the Xbox controller and it’s just easier than using the keyboard and mouse.

Wow, Windows played a trick on me. When you go on add a device on the Bluetooth menu, the Xbox controller is listed under "everything else". Turns out you have to go under peripherals such as mice and keyboards instead, hence why I had to look it up lol.
I like how he doesnt waste time and goes straight into the explanation keep up the good work
Mine doesn’t show up on the add a device and it keeps blinking😔
If your PC isn't showing the controller, scroll down in the Bluetooth menu he was showing and look for the option "More Bluetooth Options" under the related settings. Once that is open make sure the "Allow Bluetooth devices to find this PC" is checked. Once checked repeat the steps in this video and it should work.
Quick note for anyone on the Xbox elite series 2 controller: once you have it in pairing mode (quick blinking xbox logo) you'll need to open up the bluetooth settings on windows. There should be three options, Bluetooth, Wireless display or "everything else". The last option specifically mentions xbox controllers so you'd think that would be the one but no, you need to make sure to hit the first "bluetooth" option on the list. I was stuck on this option for a while and thought i might save someone the frustration.
this was more helpful than the guide by microsoft, the company that literally created the xbox
Mine always stops blinking after I click Xbox Wireless Controller half way before the connection is actually finished so it always says it doesn’t pick it up
when i connect it, it just keeps blinking
Had a problem where the light would flash rapidly for 1 second after hitting the sync button and then turn off, but it was because the controller needed new batteries.
If u can't see the xbox controller, even if it's in paring mode,go to the keyboard and mice section on add a device.
Thanks GameStop for giving me the wrong controller.
I've been trying for weeks to get my controller to connect. You're the only person I could find that helped me. I got the old controller and now know that I can't connect it unless I use a cable. Thanks for the help and the tips you definitely earned my sub!
you literally just solved my 2 hour issue in less than 2 minutes. thank you so much dude
Worked Great For me, for every one having trouble make sure you computers Bluetooth is on and you are clicking on the top option that says Bluetooth. Do not click everything else even though it says Xbox controller.
My gosh THANK YOU, it was honestly surprisingly difficult to find a video of someone going through these steps, my controller finally showed up on PC's Bluetooth setup after thinking i was doing something wrong. Papa Bless <3
Love how staight forward and easy you made this. Where have you been my whole life
Just bought a new PC for study and gaming so my hubby and I can play Sea of Thieves, the keyboard is to complex for a noob, I like to call very descriptive instructions the idiots guide, so simple to follow. Love this! Good work! No questions needed.
How do I connect if again. The device is recognized on my computer but whenever I try to turn on my controller again, it doesn't connect to my device automatically. Thanks for the video, it worked the first time!
Easy and simple instructions! Thank you for getting right to the point and making this.
Omg TY! Everyone else was so complicated and tryin to sell adapters. You’re the best
