    Very impressed with your paint jobs! I used to paint them and I could never get a pumpkinseed pattern right. I never thought of an artists sponge. Have you ever tried Solarez as your top coat. It has worked well for me. Thanks for sharing your techniques with the rest of us.

    Finished my first attempt to copy this bait. Sort of screwed up though. Went with a different clear coat, from Netcraft. Easier to use, but not as good. I also used the same color as my spots on the back. Oops. I didn't have the same color you had, so I mixed wicked brown and a wicked yellow something. Came out about the right color. If I could post pics, I'd show you. Just want to thank you for the tutorial. Really helps. You should do a standard bluegill next.

      +suzy mcalister I did another version this morning and didn't screw it up as bad. I also when with the two part epoxy with glitter and it gives it a much better shine. Mixed the spot color the same, but I added a couple drops of pearlized copper to it. I likey :)

    What type of sealer and/or base coat are you using to prepare wood before paint? Some wood like balsa is soft, need some coat to make wood stronger.

    How would you repaint a factory painted lure? Do you need to remove the old paint before you put your base coat on?

    • @michaelorensteen6773
      @michaelorensteen6773 8 лет назад

      I pop the eyes out then using a fine grit sandpaper I lightly sand the bait. You do not need to remove the paint. Then spray your white base/primer coat

    • @suzymcalister7930
      @suzymcalister7930 8 лет назад

      Thank you. What if the eyes are painted on? You have a technique for painting eyes? Could I put on eyes even though the bait wasn't balanced for those kind of eyes.

    • @michaelorensteen6773

      +suzy mcalister paint over then and you can hand paint new eyes or buy 3D eyes and super glue them on prior to epoxy clear coat

    Anytime that you put epoxy clear on your crankbait what I do is I used to heat gun to heat it up for a few seconds and it gives me more time to work with it and it comes out more glossy and shiny just try it and let us know what you think

    That clear coat is it ok if I use vanish? or Epoxy is better? I’m using it for my shrimp hunter squid jig it cost a fair bit and can’t find them no more so I don’t want to destroy it I only use it once got 2 squid and see bite marks already

    • @luremeincustompaintedcrank3818
      @luremeincustompaintedcrank3818  6 лет назад +1

      Uncle Darren I don’t know much about varnish. I used to use Epoxy but now I’m using KBS Diamond Clear Coat. One part. Just dip and hang. I recommend 2 coats

    How artistic do you need to be to airbrush hard baits at all? i'm interested in starting to do this but if these come out anything like any of my drawings then it won't be worth the investments

    • @luremeincustompaintedcrank3818
      @luremeincustompaintedcrank3818  9 лет назад

      Tom Laicher Im not an artist by trade or anything. I learned by starting to watch RUclips videos like mine then practicing a lot and trial n error. I have a good sense though of how to choose colors that match a reference photo of a fish.

    Use Scotch tape or clear packing tape instead of painters tape so you can see where your lining up the black Gill color. Don't remove the bill tape until after clear coating so you don't get clear coat on the bill. But great colors and great pattern looks really good.

    • @luremeincustompaintedcrank3818
      @luremeincustompaintedcrank3818  7 лет назад

      Russell Devane Both those tapes leave residue and difficult to take off. Also I dip my entire bait in clear coat including the bill to prevent the bill from chipping or cracking.

    • @russelldevane5434
      @russelldevane5434 7 лет назад

      Lure Me In Custom Painted Crankbaits all you have to do is before you put the shipping tape on, is put it on your shirt or pants or something and get a lot of the sticky off then you can use it and see what you're doing and it won't leave residue. Works great for me and cuts down on mistakes

    • @luremeincustompaintedcrank3818
      @luremeincustompaintedcrank3818  7 лет назад

      Russell Devane I still clear coat my bills. Prevents cracking. I’m now dipping in KBS Diamond Clear

    If you put glitter in your epoxy, it gives it a milky tone...That's why I shake it on after..then I do another coat...And too much of epoxy will make your lure yellow..

    Pipe cleaners and feathers work great for many different patterns. Be careful with the pipe cleaner, too much paint can ruin your day

    What do you use for your airbrush cleaner?

    • @michaelorensteen6773
      @michaelorensteen6773 8 лет назад

      Iwata Medea Airbrush Cleaner. For a deep clean (once a month) I use the cleaner in an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner and drop the airbrush in there

    • @suzymcalister7930
      @suzymcalister7930 8 лет назад

      Thank you. Do I have to order that cleaner online, or do stores carry it?

    • @michaelorensteen6773
      @michaelorensteen6773 8 лет назад

      +suzy mcalister The clear coat is on Amazon. It's Devcon 2 Ton 30 minute epoxy. Realistically you only have about 8 minutes so that equates to about 2 baits

    • @michaelorensteen6773
      @michaelorensteen6773 8 лет назад

      +suzy mcalister sorry I misunderstood. I thought you meant clear coat. But the Medea Airbrush cleaner can be found at Dick Blicks Air Supply in the store or online. I'm sure it's online too such as www.chicagoairbrushsupply.com
