Nah he said it was for microgreens, that's what they call all of these very small, easy and quick to grow, but highly nutritious supposedly plantlets
@@dimitrijekrstic7567 Its well documented that most microgreens are very nutritious.

I did this and the birds went NUTS! They actually ate the first set of leaves and just left a pot of little green stubs lol. Surprisingly, a lot are starting to grow back! I bird proofed it now lol.
They must be delicious 😂
Sunflower sprouts are really good!
You can't blame the birds but damn are they annoyingly good at eating our stuff. 😂
@@PokesusThe birds?
@@vidstar7 Birds LOVE tender green shoots, which I just learned this year in my first garden. If you're planting things like peas, carrots, anything that's direct-sown outdoors, it's best to cover them until they get larger. I had a pot full of carrots, and at this point half of them are gone because the birds ate them while they were small and tender. XP
Honestly those sprouts did look pretty tasty
Why do sunflowers create so many seeds?
@@nofurtherwest3474 because sunflowers are actually what are called "Composite Flowers" the actual sunflower flower people think is the flower, isn't actually the flower! The little buds on the "flower" are the real flowers!! And every ovary in each flower, when pollinated, becomes a single seed! 🌻
Nature is amazing!

You can taste the newly born life force.
The hollywood illuminati say the same.
One day you will find someone who treats you right, knows what environment you need to sprout and grow, gives you protection and sunshine when you need it, gently touch you, and after 7 days he takes scissors cuts you in half and say you taste a lil nutty and pretty crisp
How romantic

I never had sunflower microgreens
They are pretty good, be sure to harvest before the first true leaf grows since its rough and kinda tough.

Thanks for the tip 👍🏻
They’re tasty, not bitter
Delicious❤🌻
You are so cute 🥺🥰
Been growing sunflowers for almost 40 years and I never knew the shoots were edible till right now 😅
Same. I just discovered what micro greens really are.
They're not useful as food whatsoever
@@Cenot4ph your not a gardener are you? If you were you would know just how many nutrients, minerals and sugars are in shoots and sprouts and you wouldn't have posted that 🤣
Even sunflower seeds are great for our bodies as they help protect our hearts, our immune systems and even our bones
But of course I'm sure you have some great new information out just this week that tells us all that is just outdated and false right??
@@hamoostaffat Microgreens are a fad😂 There’s far more nutrients in the seeds before the sprouts consume it all to start growing. And there’s far more vitamins and nutrients in fully developed vegetables that have had time to grow fully. You harvest and eat microgreens at most nutritionally inefficient time where they’ve consumed all the nutrients stored in the seed for growth but haven’t had enough time to grow enough to produce and store their own nutrients.
Eating microgreens is like eating extremely underripe fruit. Sure you might like the texture but don’t lie and be pretend that apple blossoms are more nutritious than ripe apples. There’s a reason we eat eggs and chickens but not day-old chicks 😂😂😂
@@beaver_warrior that's not how seeds work, seeds do not hold everything needed to grow greenery, they have enough to start the shoot and tap root, thats when the root starts to eat enough to grow leaves, there are far far more nutrients in shoots than seeds, comparing chicken eggs to leafy shoots just shows you don't know what your talking about, microgreens have been a thing for over 40 years, thats not a fad my friend, its something you don't understand so you try and put it down, if they were no better than the seeds they come from then why don't you try to cut the tap root off when it's about 3mm long and see if it will still grow, I guarantee it dies because the seed has been used up long before then in most cases, take walnuts for example, soon as the root touches the soil and the shoot turns green you can peel the rest of the seed shell off and it grows, take the root off and leave it connected to the seed it will die 🤦♂️
Never heard of kiviak? What about Balut?
Do you not know most meat birds become "nuggies" after less than 2 months of age? Most veggies havnt even started growing their flowers by then way to compare apples and oranges
Thanks. You sold me on sunflowers. I don't know why I never thought of using them for microgreens before.
Yes, we've done sunflower, buckwheat, radish, and several other Microgreens at our farm. We sell them at local farmers markets. I think my favorite is radish. I love the spicy crunchy texture and flavor. Yumm!❤
I agree radish micro greens are the tastiest especially on sandwiches!
Radish sprouts are the best
Are these a better tasting alternative to sprouts...?
🤔
@@Axel-im6si They are the same thing.
Don't want to spend time cracking shells? No problem! Just spend 2-3 weeks letting them sprout. Easy
I didn't even know they were edible like that!
Can I do this with store bought seeds?
@@nofurtherwest3474no they're roasted and dead
@@anlasma7942 ohhh thx
@@nofurtherwest3474 you certainly can fella. Not with toasted seeds, but ordinary sunflower seeds, for sure! Don't need the husk/shell to be on, those will just be cheaper most likely.
A lot of sprouts (maybe all?) are and they all taste different. I've been eating them since I was a kid.
Malted sunflower seeds is so genius, gotta try it
I see what you're getting at (malting involves sprouting) but this isn't malting. Malting wouldn't let the plant grow past the initial root stage, activating the maltase enzyme before roasting the seed to allow it to be used for brewing, growing it into a microgreen is way beyond malting. There's no starch/sugar/oil left in the seed at this point, it's all in the plant which is just at the stage to start photosynthesis as it's main source of energy. It's similar but actually something different entirely.
@@cr4zyj4ckGreat helpful response! I’ve always been curious what “malted” really involves. Do you happen to know why malted barley flour is added to so many wheat flour/bread products? Is it only for taste or? Hmm… now I want a chocolate malt milkshake 🙂
@@loredore5386Tastes good. That's pretty much it.
That's cool, definitely trying it this spring
Me too! I'll buy a bunch of seeds to try it out
Same 😊
No need for spring if you're in the middle of winter in your area. This can be done inside with the correct grow lights. Growing sprouts is incredibly easy, and a very healthy source of nutrients. There are so many popular sprouts to choose from as well like broccoli, various beans, obviously sunflowers, basil, radish sprouts, and so on
You can do this anywhere, they don’t even really need light.
@@somethingsomething404 yeah I was saying if you're doing them indoors during a time like winter. The sprouts are too young to handle winter, and having some simple lights over them will promote faster and better growth. There's methods where you put sprouts in a jar to let them grow, but if you're really going all in to grow them as an extra source of food that maybe cuts out the need to buy greens from the store, then I'd have the sprouts in a tray to maximize growth as well as having those lights
Sprouting is a clever way to get nutrition from oil seeds without dealing with phytons ❤
That's interesting. I definitely have a bunch of sunflower seeds. And most are still shelled. Since you're not wanting to grow them to completion, this does allow for space efficient growth.
Yep you can grow them very densely. They will mostly just be growing from the energy within the seeds and not really from the soil nutrients
@@TheKiwiGrower I would think the seeds themselves would be more nutritional
@Rokomarn I think that the seedlings growth would turn the simple glucose stores in the seed into more complex vitamins and nutrients
@@videobruj I didn't pay attention to the video close enough but he said it's a good way to eat them without having to shell them so it makes sense
@@RokomarnSeeds have anti-nutrients, so they don't randomly sprout. When you grow them you get more nutrients that way, thus is healthier to eat them this way. But ofc, it's faster to eat the seeds and get nutrients every day that to wait 7 days for them. Both are good imo
Micro greens are awesome.
Looks like im adding sunflower stubs to my list of things to eat, thank you
Awesome idea bro!!! I grow sunflowers 🌻 for fun I have an acre of land I just planted over 5,000 seeds and I have a bunch left and I will do it his !!!
Has a light sunflower seed aroma. Fresh, crunchy, slightly succulent like purslane. Great for salads as well as a wilted green.
Thanks for this... I'm about to start this years sunflowers from last years' harvest so I'll do your method and save a few sprouts for potting on. I love sprouts (I usually eat green lentil sprouts as they are so easy) and it never occurred to me to try sunflowers!... thanks again.🌻🍽
This video helped me to create a sunflower garden. I used your planting method to start a horde of them. let them grow up a bit then planted them in rows in my garden. 300 plants was a lot of work but my wife's excitement was worth it.
They are a staple in my diet. On my eggs in the morning, on my sandwich at lunch, and as a salad with my dinner. They are LOADED with nutrients
Brilliant. You’re two for two on videos I’ve seen that blew my mind!
I've had sunflower sprouts. I loved them so much. The flavor is just incredible
I never in my life thought to eat sunflower sprouts, but it makes perfect sense. Im sure my bunny AND chickies would absolutely devour them! Thanks! 😸
Im a big fan of micro greens. I had starters for lots of plants, my favourite being Alfalfa for Alfalfa Sprouts as I love eating them with pineapple and celery, a little salt and powdered chili but then my gastroenterology doc told me that some sprouts can be toxic ( I wasn't eating the ones that can be dangerous if not properly grown) but he scared me really good because I had issues with my intestine so I stopped doing that last year.
Last week I went to see my doc and said my intestinal track is doing better and he allowed me to eat more stuff, among that micro greens so with your vid and explanation I am trying Sunflower this year!
Thanks as always for the incredible content!!! 😊
Which ones are more toxic?
Les oiseaux adorent ça aussi !
Such a great crop! Sunflower seeds store easily and make a great delicious green food during the winter!
I really appreciate it man. This will make my life so much easier. Removing the seeds from the shell has always been so much work and time consuming for me
Sunflower seed is my favourite snack
I never thought about the weight. Thank you!
Great tip for starting sunflower seeds. Does this apply to any other seeds?
Ive tried them before they are actually really good

Sunflower sprouts are INCREDIBLE.
I absolutely love sunflower sprouts. They're much yummier than snow pea sprouts
Quick to grow and easy,
Good education and quite satisfying to watch….

earth is amazing i love my seeds
You can dry fry or in little oil and eat the seeds. They are available in packages in some super markets as sunflower seeds. Just pill the shell and eat the seeds inside after frying, they taste really good. Better than cashew nuts.
Fantastic idea! Definitely going to try this rather than growing them to full height next time!
You can do the same thing in a mason jar without soil to make it less messy
I love sunflower sprouts! Put a little lemon juice and a sprinkle of salt and I could eat a whole bowl of them lol
Thanks. Big Hug from Switzerland 🇨🇭🏔🚵♀️
YUM! 😋 i didn't picture you letting them get that big, but they will fill my 🥗 salad bowl quickly this way! 😘💨

Yummy especially as garnish on anything you can think of
if you are just eating as sprouts you dont even need the soil, you can just spread them on the tray after soaking and they will sprout just fine. we eat them all the time.

Never let them know your next move😂😂
It reminds me of Niel saying if a plant aloen comes he will see we eat young babies 😂

Yum SO nutritious! Love Sunflowers in all forms, thankyou😊
In Turkey, we roast them with salt and eat them by removing the shell with our teeth. You would not believe how good it tastes.
In Egypt, we roast it lightly without any oil Just take a dry pan and put it in it on low heat until the seed inside gets hot then we eat the The seed after peeling it
It is a very popular type of snack in Egypt
Nutty greens 💚
Tastes like green
Just rinse them very well sprouts have the highest recall rate from listeria
They taste great!
Those sprouts look so good omg.
I do this a lot. It's really good
This makes all of the nutrients much more bioavailable too because phytic acid is an anti-nutrient that is reduced a lot when sprouting, soaking, or fermenting
Spoken like a true Australian hero!

That was a pretty good throw.
I've been eating sunflower seeds with the shell on my entire life, I didn't know you were supposed to remove them

Best regards luck and especially health to all involved life forms (humans and plants).
My grandparents teached me to eat sunflower sprouts a long time ago, when I was a toddler
The main benefit from seedlings are the amino acids which are already transformed proteins.
So your body doesn’t have to do that work.
Remember : 30% of the energy in the food we eat is consumed at digesting it.
Question; does adding weight benefit all types of plants?
Ah yes, the flavour green, my favorite
I do the same, but with lentils.
Sunflower greens are wicked good in salads, on sandwiches, in cold noodle dishes.
I like the seeds themselves ngl
I saw a video of people who did this. The only difference is that they used the saplings to feed guinea pigs
They are so easy to grow on your own and any sprouts. Bean sprouts radish sprouts alfalfa sprouts just any any sprouts have way more nutrition than the full-blown plant so they're extremely helpful. You for you and you can grow them. And like you said in 7 days you can have a whole crop and you can be selling them at your farmers markets. You can sell them to grocery stores. You can sell them to restaurants. It's a huge huge one man grows them in a bedroom and he said his bedroom makes him 100,000 a year just off se sprouts. So you may want to check that out and you can always eat at healthy, healthy, healthy while you're becoming wealthy
Sounds like a great way to get your greens.
7 days to harvest is amazing wow! 😮
that's the beauty of spouts/microgreens. I've even started doing this with certain hay and grass seeds to give my pet guinea pigs! It's an easy nice treat for them, maybe I should grow myself some while I'm at it lol
@@heehoopeanut420 Heck yeah! I was looking at doing broccoli microgreens for salads, which I still might at some point, but the whole idea was that I wanted a crop that was very fast growing and nutritious. Broccoli microgreens are considered to be very fast micro greens and take like 2 weeks to mature, but 7 days is even crazier! That's why I am shocked at how fast these things grow.
4+7=11
It actually takes 9
@@heehoopeanut420 how long until you can harvest your guinea pigs?
Can you do the pressure sprouting technique with cannabis / hemp seeds as well? I've never heard about this technique before.
In egypt we roast & put salt on them and eat them as nuts sometimes we even put flavours like cheese or kebab they're called leb (ْلِب)❤
I saw that method originally used to sprout carrot seeds. Surprised it works for sunflowers. Does it work for other microgreens or other plants in general?
I love sunflower microgreens too!
i usially keep them in blackout untill theyre about 3 inches tall. uncover and let them green up and harvest before the true leaf forms to avoid getting bitter.
