You Wouldn't Believe Hungarian Hospitality In Village Restaurants!!

- Опубликовано: 25 июл 2023
- Visiting restaurants in Hungary has been no disappointment to me I tell you why, the staff has been so welcoming especially in places such as villages where tourists don't go where its known to not have the best of service. How welcoming are Hungarian restaurant owners and the staff to their customers want to find out watch this video because the hospitality was on another level. In todays video I visit a restaurant in Hungary in a small random village called Nadap, in Fejér county in central Hungary, with population of 460. Lying among low Velence Hills, It is the point of departure for sightseeing tours on the countryside. From this restaurant I order a Hungarian speciality along with homemade alcohol known as Palinka. This restaurant Is a traditional Hungarian restaurant with wooden architecture inside and a nice comfortable outside area. To see how Hungarians treat people when they turn up uninvited with a camera watch this video. I have visited a lot of restaurants in Europe but what I have noticed about the Hungarians even if they do not speak English they will try and make a effort to communicate with you even if its by using Google translator.

Andre, you are the nicest foreigner here, I am Hungarian and I wish I had a friend like You! All your videos show that you are a super positive person. Take care of yourself, we need kind people like you on the Planet!!!!
But you dont like emigrants from far east and africa right? I Remember what hapened few years ago, refuges camps and police on the streets.
@@maqic1979 Not immigrants, but illegal immigrants who broke our laws, were violent, demanding and threatening. In addition, the number and demographics of the immigrants do also matter from the point of view of the survival of the domestic culture!
@@bulcsuvezer9378 I've seen many of them homeless ot the train station in Budapest about 5 years ago, you mean all of them were illegal?
@@maqic1979 Yes, approx. half a million illegals (i.e. lawbreakers) marched through my country, often paralyzing the normal life of the native population.
@@maqic1979 Come on bro, just educate yourself on the topic and do not embarrass yourself here. We all like people from all countries, main thing is you should enter the country legally. If that is not an issue for you, then you're very welcome here. And of course we like if someone tries to learn a bit of Hungarian since the older generation is not really good in foreign languages.
i respect the way you smashed those 2 shots of pálinka before (!) your lunch, in the scortching summer heat, true Hungarian spirit!
Yeah, it was the proper way to drink it!
Háromat ivott!!
3 shot of magyar pálinka
Hungary is my favourite European country
Mine too
Why?
that Transilvanian beer is Hungarian. Transilvania used to be Hungary. we lost that territory after WW1
I wish all the best for Hungarian brothers from Poland♥
Csíki sör (beer) is made in Transylvania which was Hungary for a very long time, and back in the 16th hundred when the factory was made as well. So actually the factory and the beer is still Hungarian, only the land is not. Look up the history of that, it’s pretty interesting.
Love your vids, from Hungary. 😄
You mean occupied and exploited by Hungary.
It's my favorite beer ever! Everytime I'm in Hungary i drink tons of it 🍻😂
Greetings from Italy 🇮🇹❤️🇭🇺
Csíki beer is pretty bad tho
ISTEN VELED means " God be with you "
André, I've been following you for a long time, and I am very sure that my first video from you was at the end of June 2021 when you visited the wooden Pub in Roznow pod Radhostem. Since then, I have watched every video and always enjoyed your journey.
You're a very unique human with a really authentic character. I love seeing Central/Eastern Europe through your eyes, as I'm a Pole living in Germany and haven't had the opportunity to travel much.
Your channel has become literally my favorite one on RUclips. I'm excited for every one of your videos and celebrate them with good food and some Polish beer. I hope to see many more videos from you; keep it up, my man!
@user-zm5zh1eh7b Thank you :)
Well Andre my wife and I enjoy your videos in Hungary,my wife is Canada born 1st generation but her heritage is Hungarian, her parents were born in Budapest and escaped the horrors of the uprising in 1956,I am American born but my heritage is Italian,my grandparents were born in Italy,so I am lucky I have the best of both European cuisines,I never had real Hungarian ghoulash till i met and married my wife, her cooking is a step above my mom and Nana and thats a very high compliment for her!!We love the way you try and say chicken in Hungarian, the word is spelled csirke and is pronounced cheer-ke,a male chicken rooster is spelled kakas and sounds like cock-osh,goose is liba and duck is spelled kacsa and pronounced kacha, thought you may have fun wtih those words!!You are fun and entertaining and your comments about Hungary, the people and especially the food makes my wifes heart happy!!We may be going to Hungary this coming July, wouldnt it be great to run into you there!!Best wishes and safe travels to you always,we hope you do more videos in Hungary!!God Bless you!!!
Do you think in future you could put a space after punctuation? It's surprisingly off putting.
Probably a little bit less paprika should be there bro! haha ..but you are good! You like a real hungrian, drinking pálinka and eating hot paprika .. cheers mate from Hungary!
I like your style of video's really captivating never a boring moment 👏
👊🏽😎
90% was boring
I wish I could find a good job in Hungary to move there
I love the positivity of this man.
"Isten hozott" means "Welcome", but in mirror translation it's "God brought you". "Isten veled" is "Let God be with you", but we use it only when saying goodbye, that's why these two greetings are usually in pair at such places like this restaurant.
Nadap is a weird name, it sounds like an acronym. I'm from Hungary but never heard of this village. Enjoy your stay!
edit: the building at 3:00 was a library (könyvtár)
23:23 isten veled = goodbye (may the lord be with you). isten hozott = welcome, isten = god/lord
31:37 the 18+ sign applies to the national tobacco shops only (nemzeti dohánybolt), not the regular grocery store. it has a separate entrance and has a limited product range (drinks, tobacco and a few candies maybe). Definitely no crisps or chocolate over there, that's prohibited to sell. I never understood how come they can sell Haribo gummies, but not other sweets. Also the windows have to be covered so children can not see the interior.
36:45 the roofs are made of reed and that's a traditional Hungarian thing, but probably can be seen in other parts of Europe. It's called nádfedeles ház = house with a roof made of reed.
38:03 horse = ló (pronounced like the word "low" in English)
😎
@@AndreTravelerur welcome
Én is így voltam vele, Nadap elég furcsa de jó ezt is tudni mosmtár 😃
Great Video André!
@@AndreTraveler 18:37 you put loads of hot peppers there, lady forgot to say it is hot chili pepper, not the paprika we use to cook with, paprika is not hot at all, it is for flavouring. Transylvania where the beer comes from was once part of Hungary, it is now a Romanian territory. Also, those houses were not wooden, they made mostly out of clay instead of bricks or wood.
Nadapot sokan nem ismerik Velence és Sukoró felett van egy kis kb 500fős falúcska nagyon szép helyen van de attol hogy kicsi fent az erdőben meg ott van egy kormányüdülő
As far as I can see, this was the first truly traditional pálinka. I didn't expect a different reaction because it is home-brewed and there is nothing more traditional than that.
PS.: I really enjoy the videos you make, I like how small things can bring you joy
I love your videos Andre, im your the biggest fan
I appreciate it 👊🏽
I'm glad you had two shots, otherwise you'd be walking lop sided! I must say, the village and restaurant look absolutely beautiful and the people are super welcoming. 💙
These roofs are made from reed. We have these kind of roofs although in northern Germany. The reed for it is growing and harvested in Hungary.
The menu was written in Hungarian and German.
Transilvanian hungarians make that beer. 3 of pálinka kickyoass! :D
Just one little side note for the next time you drink pálinka: it can be made from different fruits (even fruits combined together), the most common ones are peach, plum, and "törköly" which is made of the leftovers of grape. But there are many variations. So if you wanna know better what you drink, you probably should ask this question as pálinka can be made of literally almost anything. :) Enjoy your stay in Hungary!
if you make it from potato that's Vodka not Pálinka. 😶 So not anything. 🥴
Pálinka can only be made from fruit.
You can make a very limited amount by yourself. We made pálinka from quince, and it wasn’t bad either, but not the best. I tried cherry, and blachthorn palinka also not my fav, but interesting. One of my relatives always quarrel how to use their fruits: the old lady wants compote, the husband wants palinka, and it is a great match in every year.
I might of seen you in rožnov pod radhoštěm
Just parked on the side of the road.
My African dad was surprised to see you there but sad he didn't get to meet you.
Great to hear that you had positive experiences with restaurants in Hungary and appreciated their hospitality. In rural villages, you can indeed have authentic experiences and often meet people willing to share local culture and traditions.
In Hungary, the atmosphere of restaurants and the quality of hospitality are indeed significant. The traditional Hungarian cuisine is rich and diverse, and pálinka (fruit brandy) is an important part of local traditions.
The fact that they still try to communicate with you even if they don't speak English reflects the hospitality of the Hungarian people and their willingness to connect. This can be a wonderful experience and contribute to a better understanding of the country and its culture.
During the video, viewers have the opportunity to get a glimpse of Hungarian hospitality and the specialties of the restaurants. We hope you continue to enjoy the gastronomic experiences in Hungary and appreciate the unique aspects of the country!
The shops allow young people to buy anything. The one you pointed out is a tobacco shop and to buy cigarettes you have to be at least 18 years old . That is what the sign 18 meant to be. Btw. You can drink Andre....3 shots of palinka and beer.... 🥴
My mother was a feedom fighter in 1956 and wanted by the KGB plus i hsve a roof like that on my hse a 200 years old love hungary ❤
thanks to you, i think i 've just found the place i would like to live when i retire. this is a really peaceful and beautiful village, kind people, delicious food and of course a lot of palinka and beer, no matter hungarian or transylvanian . by the way your sunglasses are pretty cool
Nadap is next to the Velencei tó, you can go to the beach there, and there are touristroutes near the village theye’re very cosy. There are weekend houses in the nearest hillsides with panorama to the see and Budapest is just an hour by car, but I couldn’t live there. There is absolutely nothing else there. If you want to blend in in a rural village in Hungary you should go to the church, or to the local pub otherwise you hardly get friends.
Man, that was a way to much paprika, usually they use to put in like a 1/2 or 1 of those :D. I saw you were becoming red from it at the end :D
The dried red paprika good for make your soup spicy but there is a special way to use it: because it is dried after you put it into your soup you should wait a couple of minutes - until that your soup can become colder. In this way you can give enough time to melt out the spice from paprika. That is why your soup was spicier at its end. Before use you should break half one dried paprika and lick that so you could guess how many paprika is good for you in the soup. Btw the best way and effective to use dried paprika to break into pieces before you put it into your soup... Good video, thanks.
Great Video🤜
9:57 "Isten veled" means God is with you.
You better eat some white bread with such spicy Hungarian food ;)
That part of Transylvania (erdély), where from the beer is, used to belong to the Hungarian kingdom.
It was taken from Hungary after the lost first wold-war.
However there are still millions of Hungarian people (half of my family too) live there.
The dog you filmed was really one of the most famous Hungarian breeds named "komondor".
Hungarian people are working during the day. Those you met were tourists.
Big up bro!! ✌🏻😎
Im Israeli with Hungarian background. And they have the best food in the world
You must have been half in the bag by the time you left that restaurant 🤣 buzz buzz! Also can you even imagine bus stops in North America like what they have there? They would get trashed! They are very respectful there of their community for sure.
31:55 Dohány bolt is the network of Hungarian shops with tobaco. That is why the people under the age of 18 are not allowed to buy in.
If you visit Hungary next time come to Szentes. Here is a very traditional food called Lecsó. :)
Is it maked from paprika, tomato, susages, and at last mixed eggs?
In Slovakia it is named like "lečo".:-) but also it have in Czech, Germany, France and other countries. Last time i saw that in south Asia like a traditional foot.
*food. I am sorry🙂
@@jaroslav2419 yes, traditional balkan food. But i lile without eggs. We make it with rice sometimes.
Cheese cake, church cake lol to funny Andre, you are great!!!MMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmm when you like and enjoy the food!!!!
13:15 i knew this was gonna be the reaction when she said its home made palinka😂🫡
the way you added 5-6 spicy paprikas into your goulash is so funny , I usually have a quarter of one and it's still spicy for me🙂
Its best to actually taste the food first in Hungary before adding the paprika, one by one even then. Hungarians LOVE their hot paprika, its their national spice
You drank the palinka like a real Hungarian man would !!!!
"God be with you,"... The saying above the gate leaving. The saying coming in is, "God brought you!"
You're tough bruv taking that palinka like that , respekt , go to Romania too , there's original palinka as well , in Maramures , people in Hungary are so friendly
Exactly, he downed those three shots of pálinka like nothing :D
Woah gosh dude i now find your channel you make amazing videos now i saw this first time but i want to see more i am hungarian i can just a little bit speaking english (but without translating) 😅 so it was a very cool can i ask for you where are u from ? 😊😁

I would find the receipt for the Hungarian Traditional Soup you’ve just ordered, it looks so delicious. But I would supplement the spices .
I love your videos!!! Especially Hungary videos. Unfortunately i finished all your Hungarian videos :( I can watch you all day long. Do you ever come back to Hungary?
No worries! One day...

We have two different shops in Hungary, a grocery shop and a so called tobacco shop, where you can only go to buy cigarette or things if you are over 18. You see this, there are more of them in Hungarian villages.
So you cannot buy anything if u are below 18?
@@Lion_Of_Damascuses thats how it works in fact you cant even go in the tobbaco shop.
@@Lion_Of_Damascus Cant buy cigarettes and alkohol
When you have a time. You can go to Gyula city in hungary. Also a good restaurants there, and the city is wonderful.
35:00 Mihály Vörösmarty (archaically English: Michael Vorosmarthy 1 December 1800 - 19 November 1855) was an important Hungarian poet and dramatist.
That Goulash looks quiet tasty 🤤😋
Cool sunglasses bro 😎
"Isten Veled" means "God's with you", some sort of saying Goodbye in Hungary.
Actually only alcoholic beverages and tobacco products are forbidden to be sold to people under the the age of 18. They can buy whatever they want, even small childs are served in shops. Only the addictive, health hazards are restrictred tonage limits.
By the way, it was very interesting, that the Patkó Csárda menu was in hungarian and german, but english was missing. I haven't seen that after the 2000s. Also the waitress seemed to try to speak in english but automatically saying german verbs.
After I looked after Nadap, I read that after the turkish occupation ended in hungary, demography needed some upscaling, so german settlers were brought into the country, and to Nadap as well, hence the german language precedence and not the english one.
Traditional foods in hungary are soups, paprikás and stew based dishes, made of various meats, animal parts and vegetables. Almost all of them are around the onion, paprika, black pepper triumvirate.
"Szintezési ősjegy" - had to look after it as it is a technical term I never heard. It is a leveling reference point of the country, when measuring places' altitude over sea level. It says they created it in Nadap many decades ago, because the rock mountainous region the village is built on is the most stable geographic place in hungary (stable : does not sink or rise during earthquakes, thus not loosing accuracy in measured level).
I like the shades!
Transylvania 100% HUNGARIAN....and Isten Veled! ... Good bless! ...and bro EGÉSZSÉGEDRE!
Gotta love this guy- "hungarian dog, hungarian roof" 🙂
Ahh, you should have gotten the wild boar or deer goulash (vaddisznópörkölt, szarvaspörkölt)!
Nadap is not a typical hungarian village. The most of the village's inhabitants are descended from German who settled at the 18th century...as in many other places in the contry.
The restaurant "Csarda" and the staff, however seems Hungarian!
Thanks for the video.
Because of all the inhabitants had German ancestry, the communists in 1046/47 deported all the people from there to Germany. They were told that each person can carry 50kg. belongings and then they were all headed into railroad wagons. I had relatives there. In Germany the government gave all the families a house and a job. They were lucky as later in 1948 the communist government headed all the people across the border into the Russion zone and they all died there.
I have a friend who lives in Hungary, she speaks/writes English reasonably well.
Gulyas itself is not spicy. You put too much hot pepper in it. 😁
What's that? Some ancient Mongolian rat soup?

I live in the uk and i was in a restaurant where the music was blaring on a sinday night with only a table of 8 in there. I asked if they could reduce the volume and i was asked to leave the restaurant. Suffice to say i have not returned since
Csíki sör is Hungarian beer. It's a székely product. The székely people are Hungarian etnicity in Transsylvania.
Andre pls go to Kecskemét its a nice town you will like it.
Könyvtár not a shop means Library. Maybe that's why there are books in the bus stop? For memory or something? :D
As a person that eat a lot of spicy food you must by enjoying the meal.
The village of NADAP close to the Valencei lake.
I am Hungarian and you can go to the shops even if you are younger than 18, that 18 ring applies to tobacco shops, you cannot enter there as a minor.
38:05 A horse is LÓ. It is pronounced like the English word of LAW.
correct
Pornóapáti is the best maybe you should visit it. Might get lot of views for it's name. xD But NADAP?? WTF that's a weird village name i have never heard of it. xD
Isten - God, veled-with you
The building was a library, not a shop at 3 minutes.
Mihály Vörösmarty - famous hungarian writer and poet (That Vörösmarty u. sign) (and also the statue)
I believe that is a Komondor dog and its really Hungarian
Funny how the restaurant people were speaking German.
Lots off hungarian people speak German
08:56 "Csíki" (beer) is WAY better😉12:41 Homemade pálinka is the best. It’s leagues better than the pálinka produced in factories and industrially 15:32 "Egészségedre" (cheers) means literaly "to your health" or "for your health"🙂("Egészség" means "health" - "edre" means "to yours") 15:51 "Szívesen" (With pleasure) means literaly "from the heart" in hungarian. I like that language😊16:09 Those eggs represent the 'world egg' (part of an ancient religion; Mithra'/Mátra cult) from the time when the ancestors of the Hungarians lived in Northern Mesopotamia and the Caucasus region, as in their original place of origin. Nowadays, it has remained as a tradition, mainly use and decorating them at Easter and also often painting these eggs during that time 17:39 DON'T!!!! OMG man DON'T do that!! 20:24 You did it :) Those little peppers are VERY hot, even one single piece. But you was put lot of them into your soup hehe (sorry🙃) 20:32 The Hungarians brought the spicy taste to Europe 1,200 years ago. Before that, it was not known here; only sweet, sour, bitter, and salty flavors were used 22:50 Yes. Hungary is the only country on the planet that borders itself (72% of its territory was taken and used to create previously non-existent countries) 23:19 "Isten Veled" is a common traditional "good bye" in hungary. Means literaly: "God with you" ("Isten"=God/"Veled"=With You) 24:51 That's a traditional hungarian beer. The mistake comes from that: ~5Millions of hungarian peoples sealed (isolated by the new borders) from the other hungarians, with the borders in 1920 (by FR-UK-USA) But they still living is there. "Transylvania" means: romania 28:30 Yes, because the King of the Hungarians offered and gave Hungary and his crown to the Virgin Mary, and since then Hungary has been called 'Mary's Country'. That’s why you can see so many statues of Mary in Hungary 31:33 Tobaco and Drink shops. Under 18y not allowed 32:30 Exactly. It's name: Komondor. Komondor dogs cannot be bribed or fooled with food to let you in (or poisoning) because don't accept it from others than it's owners 34:06 Traditional thatch (or "cane") roof 34:43 He is a highly esteemed poet among the Hungarians. _"To your homeland without fail, Be faithful O Hungarian! Sounds similar to "Loh" (just with _long_ "Ó") or "law" 38:53 (I know you kidding, but) Stonehenge is actualy made by the Sarmatians. Sarmatians were blood-brothers of the hungarians, just with different mothers (Amazons) and with fathers (Yazigs/Alans in hungarian it's "Jász") They were famous about their accents in the old ages (Because their mothers were Amazons who married the Alans, and since their mother was with them and they learned the 'mother language' from her, they spoke the Scythian language with a strange accent; Arthur and Merlin were also Sarmatians; this was only discovered a few years ago by British historians and archaeologists) 41:37 "We'll be waiting welcome back for you. Have a good trip!" (Sorry for my bad english)
So in Hungary shops isn't allowed to sell tobbacco products anymore for a goid while therfore now we got the tobbacco shops where you see the 18signs, in those shops they dont sell sweets, only alcohol, tobacco products and energy drinks i guess. I dont live there for 10yrs and only been to hungary once since then so im not too sure too if they sell anything else in those shops, but i surely can tell, in local shops or supermarkets kids are allowed to enter and shop
3:11 that building is a library. The sign says “Library” and then “Open:” underneath it with the hours it’s open. Although I couldn’t make out actually when it says it’s open, so it might not be in use anymore (the sign looked pretty old). Does anybody know what “pentek” means? or can make out and understand the word above it?
I started learning Hungarian on Duolingo a couple of months back, and am really impressed I already know some of the first writing I’ve seen in this video! Also great video as always, Andre ❤
Péntek means Friday and the text above it says Szerda which is Wednesday in English. The sign says that the library is open on Wednesdays and Fridays between 16:30 (4:30PM for those who are unfamiliar with the 24h time) and 18:30 (6:30PM).
Hope this helps. :)
