  • One of the frequent questions I get asked is, "Why did you buy a GMC Sierra 2500 HD instead of a RAM 2500 gasser?" In today's video I share the main factors that pushed me in the direction of the GMC Sierra HD platform instead of the RAM heavy duty platform. Previously I shared why I chose GMC over the Ford Super Duty F-250:

You made the right choice. I really wanted a Ram 2500 Laramie gasser, until I tried to get a reasonable deal on one and discovered I’d have to order one to get all the features I wanted. No dealerships would budge off MSRP which was about $10K more than equivalent Silverado. Found an exact matching Silverado 2500HD LTZ gasser fully loaded at a dealership that knocked $5K off the sticker when the dust settled. No regrets whatsoever.

Thanks for the detailed comparison. I currently have a 2015 Ram 1500 - the absolute best truck I have owned and I am looking to trade up to a 3/4 ton truck. I was fairly set on the Ram 2500 Rebel and to get the options I needed I would have to factory order. Even with the small incentives Ram is offering on their HD trucks, their prices are still out of control. So I decided to wait and do more research. Well, I assessed all the same reasons you explained in this video that GM has significant advantages over Ram. Furthermore, the Ram 6.4L still has cylinder deactivation which is a reliability/durability risk and from a long term maintenance cost perspective the Ram has 16 spark plugs that are expensive and an absolute PIA to change along with the ZF transmission which is advertised as having “lifetime” fluid not needing service, and this is also another reliability/durability risk. If you want to go ahead and change the fluid, it’s a major PITA and the filter/pan/fluid cost is astronomical. So all of that compounded with the unreasonable cost of new Ram HD trucks has this Ram fanboy with a 2024 Chevy 2500 ZR2 on order with the 6.6L gas engine.

I traded in my 24 duramax for a 24 Laramie Cummins that I ordered back in February. I did get a good deal on it, only paying 73k for a fully load 24 Laramie 3500 Night and I did get a lower interest rate by 4.5%. I will say I miss the Chevy HC Duramax, but I'm likely stuck for now.

It was. I’m probably going to get a 2500 ZR2 next time though. The Chevy drives better, but Ram does a lot of other things better.

The only problem I have with the GM gasser is it feels gutless, especially under load. The add of the 10 speed was a nice upgrade for GM this year.

Good point. I wonder if they de-rated it a good bit for the sake of durability/longevity perhaps.

Stellantis has done a good job not investing any money in the Ram platforms and gouging customers in the price dept. It seems all they want the Ram division for is to be a cash cow. Make as much money as they possibly can. The price increases we have seen over the past 4 years and not getting anything new is rather disgusting. You can say the same for many of their products. Now covid is over, it is really starting to hurt them.

Why didn’t my truck come with floor mats even though I ordered it with floor mats?
