Well originally it's supposed to have a gay meaning against the traditional Adam and Eve. Making it adam and Steve. At least that's what it would be if we talk biblically and talk about the history of the meaning, over all it's all what you think. I could be wrong as well since I don't know much about it. Would not lie you should not go to that tree" so that's like saying he's not lieing, you should not do it (perhaps their conscience) and then he says, "to have everything and give it all away" and proceeds to explain how he sometimes feels like Adam and wants more than he has. But this could be perceived many ways. Either way, it has a great meaning to the listener and is such a great song!
