- I am getting ready for Shavuot! Also called Shavuos, this is the holiday where we celebrate the giving of the Torah. I will take you along for two days as I prepare for the two day holiday of Shavuot. We will talk about cheesecake, make lasagna, decorate cheesecake with the kids, and put lovely flowers in vases. I will tell you what Shavuot is all about and chat about life in general as I prep for Shavuot!

Happy Memorial Day from your neighbour to the north ❤ In Canada we honour both the living and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice on Remembrance Day. I do really like the idea of two separate days though. Also, I hope you had a wonderful Shavuot Chana!
The fact that extra flowers is part of the holiday is beautiful and an extra blessings. Miss Iris loves to buy lilies of any colour but I like dark pink best and then we eagerly watch them open. Like your daughter, we happily leave them until they are full blown - the kids learn so much about nature in this way. Just by living in the house. Bonus for homeschool! I think that all mothers have the 'stay up late and get it all done' superpower. It makes the next day so much more manageable. I am having trouble typing as I dislocated the top joint of my middle finger on Monday. It is a weird injury but you really have no idea how much you use all your fingers until one is out of action. I also want to say how refreshing it is that you are so delighted by Torah and want that to be symbolic in your celebration. Iris told me last week that she loves G.d and thinks He is beautiful. My heart was very happy. Hello from Australia!

I am Jewish because my mother is Jewish, but my father is the child of Irish and Italian immigrants. So I can now put on my Italian hat and say that there is absolutely nothing wrong with how you make lasagna! I learned a bit about cooking from my father's aunt, who was born in southern Italy, and really the only thing she would do differently from you is that she would use fresh buffalo mozzarella, freshly grated. I mean, the noodles and the sauce would all be made by hand, but who on earth has time to do that in this day and age? Yours looks delicious!

Their decorated cheesecake looked so good and yummy. Its amazing what keeps them happy. Next week the Archbishop of Canterbury is coming to visit Salisbury in the UK. I'm Italian and I live on Como Lake in Italy. Your lasagna is very strange 🤔 to me. Never made a veggie lasagna but I can try. So thank you for your suggestion and I love your video! Ciao
So glad that you enjoyed! How would you as an Italian make lasagna? We can only do vegetable lasagna because we keep kosher so no mixing meat and dairy
Pro🍄! I have a young one that does not like them so I chop them fine and hide them in just about everything 😬.
I particularly love them in hotpot along with a ton of delicious veggies.
I need to try chopping them more finely :) maybe that will do the trick!

Hi Chana. You have the most unique and non-traditional recipe for lasagna. Yeah it's not Italian but it sounds very good. By the way very sneaky but the vegetables hidden in your sauce. That's a great way to twist your kids. LOL. Again I think you're a great mom you got it all put together. Enjoy your day

@Jar of Fireflies Basically, the traditional Italian lasagna is made with only a meat sauce and ricotta cheese.

I love mushrooms. And I also really love that you blended vegetables in with the sauce. (though I think my kids would detect it anyway. (I do something similar with macaroni and cheese sometimes, and my kids just know and feel betrayed. I have another version where the vegetables are obvious, and my daughter finds that offensive.)
I am glad I am not the only one who tries to incorporate honey and Shavuos. In the past, I have been known to make a honey cake. This year I made honey cookies.

I hope you had an amazing Shavuot! I made a delicious Cookie Butter Cheesecake this year, it was spectacular for our Shavuot and since it's Memorial Day weekend, we decided to eat outside and enjoy the beautiful weather that G.od has blessed us with.

Yes love mushrooms in many things I cook. I freeze my fresh mushrooms in foil. Works great and they are always ready to use. Lovely table and great idea with the honey!

Have you tried making lasagna without cooking the pasta first? In the UK you can put dried pasta in a lasagna without precooking, I don't know if yours is different, it can't be too different can it?
Also if we are cooking pasta in water, we boil the kettle and pour that water over the pasta in the pan. This is why every home in the UK has a kettle, even if we don't make tea.

The children 's decorating of their. cheese cake slices were so cute.The flowers were so pretty they must have smelled wonderful. I have a calendar from my insurance company i went to look at today and it had when shavot started a when it ended. I found that amazing because my calendar does not have religious days on it Have a great week and a peaceful shabbat

Peonies are my absolutely favorite flowers! They always smell wonderful , unlike store- bought roses which usually have barely any scent. I got some peonies at Wegmans a few days ago and when they opened they were about eight inches wide! So beautiful! After watching your videos I have started adding ice to the water and found it really helps the blooms open up. You might also want to add a little vinegar because it keeps the water cleaner and discourages bacteria growth.

Baby giggles are just the sweetest.
Tulips are my absolute favorite flower abs peonies are a very close second. I don’t think there is a sweeter smell than the smell of peonies.

I never put my headphones while I watch your video but today I had to, my son and husband are home and playing and I wanted it to hear you better. Chana, so beautiful! I'm glad your Shavuot was so meaningful. my son gave me a great idea for the Shabbat table, I leave the tablecloth underneath all week, and put my chalavi tablecloth over it and that way all i have to do is take off the top layer and viola! It also feels good somehow to have the reminder of Shabbat all week long.

Hi Chana! I love carrots and zucchini in my veggie lasagna, I will have to try blending instead of layering. I have 2 family members that won't eat carrots, so they will never know! As for mushrooms, I am one of 2 family members that don't eat them. Everyone else is a fungi fan! What a wonderful Holiday that celebrates with lots of flowers! As always a pleasure to watch and learn....

Thanks for another interesting video. The lasagne looked delicious; great idea hiding the veg in it. I’m very pro mushrooms; they go in almost everything. Sautéed in butter on sourdough toast with scrambled or poached eggs is a gorgeous breakfast/lunch/supper, especially if you add in a bit of cheese. 😋

The children did an awesome job decorating their cheesecakes 🥰 Thanks for tip re ice cubes in the Tulip water & will try that out, recently I heard that if you pop a penny in the bottom of vase with the water it stops then flopping, it didn't work that well, iced water sounds better.
