Where did you get your dress? I'm trying to transition my wardrobe to more modest and functional. I'm having difficulty finding dresses. Since I live tiny, I'm avoiding sewing.
@@dawnbaker9274 this dress I got from a shop online called Maya’s Place. They sell a lot of very nice modest clothing
@@jaroffirefliesDear Chana. Did you switch from tea in the morning to coffee or do you change it up from time to time?
@@LeaSonnenscheinTrier I mostly drink coffee right now in the morning :)
@@jaroffireflies Thanks for your response. I find it so interesting the different routines and personal preferences. Wish you peaceful mornings with a drink you like and enjoy.
I've been homeschooling for almost 20 years. We have an online database for all of our books, so that I can access it from thrift stores, book stores, and library sales. Categories can be good, but they're constantly changing! I just have extra columns to stick those into. It's been a big help!
Love that! I am sure this will be a game changer at sales too. Just last week I bought Tale of Two Cities, twice lol
Simple Dewey Decimal System in the home and on the shelves.
Hi Chana, I am a library volunteer here in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Our book sales are always well attended and the volunteers love seeing people walk out with armloads of bargain priced books and big smiles on their faces. A big HOLA to you and your family.
Hola! So fun! Thanks for sharing!
First, as a fellow Orthodox person, I just love the way you explain things in our religion. You are such a smart, informed, humble, positive, joyous example of an Orthodox Jew. I love that you are part of our community and that you have this channel.
Second, living in Israel, I don't have much access to Trader Joe's. What spices are in the salmon rub? I make salmon all the time and could make my own spice mix, if I know what to include. Thanks.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I really appreciate you :) This is what I found online about the salmon rub: Made with a base of brown sugar, and supported with seasonings like smoked paprika, dried thyme, kosher salt and black pepper. Hope that helps!
I loved the opening, even with the pile of laundry on the table you sat down and gave yourself the gift of time, to read and pray to start your day on a loving path. 🥰🙏
Thank you Donna :)
I ❤ library stuff. Your videos are never boring. I learn something new with every video! Thank you for sharing. Shalom
Thank you so very much :)
Island of the Blue Dolphins was my favorite book! I hope your kids enjoy it! Thank you for sharing your life with us! ❤️
Thank you for being here!
I’ve watched your channel for a good while now, I’m definitely a silent fan I don’t comment or interact much in the comments. But I appreciate your content very much. My husband and I are not religious people but I find so much comfort and curiosity watching your content. And I always find myself watching your videos when I feel like my life is very chaotic, the calmness of your videos brings a comfort i can’t describe. And even though I’m not religious I find learning Judaism fascinating and love learning about it! Currently expecting my husband and I’s first little one and love the insight you give to motherhood!
Thank you so much for the lovely comment! Congratulations on expecting your first little one! That is so exciting!!!!
I'm excited about your new library system! Keep us informed!
Will do!
Chana, I admire your organization skills! You have made a beautiful home for you and your family 💕
Thank you so much! :)
My friend in California told me she loves it when we get to rambling in our messenger conversations. She says it's a woman thing because our minds are so jam packed with ideas, kids events, homeschool, housework, etc. I enjoy your rambling!
Our minds are so full lol
Hi Chana. The Pollyanna book is indeed an abridged version, rewritten for children as an introduction to the "real" book. I had several books in the same series when I was young. I recognized the cover style immediately. If I recall correctly, some or all of them are rewritten by ghostwriters; they tell the same stories as the "real" equivalents, but they're quicker, easier reads with simpler language and such. Enjoy your books! 📚
Thank you! Yes, once I got home I realized it was abridged. I have mixed feelings about abridged books, but I don't mind them.
Glad you are home 🏡 from your holiday you look relaxed. Watching Baby Firefly 👶 running in the library brings back memories of little dude running. Time really flies ❤❤Ireland
It flies so fast!
I love library sales! My library will sell books for 25 cents for a paperback and 75 cents for a hardcover. Definitely the best deal on books, even better than the thrift store.
I've been doing Sourdough for a year now, and my first couple loaves were rough. I've learned so much about Sourdough that I feel so much more comfortable with it now than the beginning. I love that you're setting that example for your kids--to push through something hard until you master it.
25 cents is amazing! I wish our sale was like that lol
Love the Mitzvah pads and pens and the reminder to acknowledge when our children/students do good.
Me too :)
Iris loves the library and it is combined with an art gallery so we always go upstairs and wander through the exhibits. I never did that with my own kids because I thought that you had to 'know' about art but we simply walk and look and when she or I find something we are interested in, we stop and chat about it. It is so stress free and now Iris feels very comfortable in there and at the library. She also has her own card, like your kids, and it makes her feel special. I think it is a lovely thing for kids to do and clever of libraries to help promote interest in borrowing. Those books were all fabulous finds and all the classic, older publications. The Dell Yearling editions are a great find. Yay Chana!
Oh I love that! I wish we had more art close by that I could take the kids to. For now we have our artist studies at home though and that will need to do.
@@jaroffireflies it's funny that I haven't done that yet with her because of the library/art gallery but I did find a Renoir book for kids at a charity shop. We started by looking at the one of the 2 girls at the piano. I think I can do this!
@@catherinenunan3584 you can!!!
Ooh! What a wonderful sign to remember to keep words sweet
It really is!
My goodness those editions are from when I was a kid.
Omg Chana, I should send you the spreadsheet that Colby ( my son) has made with all the books he has and wants. It has on it when he got the book when he's read it and when he was away at university if it was with him or at home. Crazy. So we are here for all the library stuff, lol. When my kids were little, the library was our weekly place. Now they are all in their 20s, and they still go to the library and not just to study but for fun. You are planting roots, my friend. Good job, Momma ❤
Wow that is so fun!!!!
I've been baking. Long time but just started learning sourdough in January. It's so much fun!
It really is!
Sourdough Dutch oven bake: Put the lid on for 25 minutes, then remove the lid for the last 15-20 minutes. 450°
That’s about what I did :) I use Ballerina Farms recipe
Oh, cute! Your little one eating his cookie first!! ❤
Always lol
That lunch and dinner so so delicious, I love the sound baby firefly makes he so cute ❤
❤️❤️❤️
Our library sells paperbacks for 50 cents each! Sometimes, they'll drop their prices to 25 cents! I always check out our "Friends of the Library" sale room when I go!
Wow that’s great!!!
I just came across your site and you are a absolute joy to watch. You have a beautiful smile and would make a wonderful school teacher for kids everywhere. I don't know very much about Judaism but you explain everything so well. I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos and hopefully some of your contagious joy will rub off on me. I think you are so sweet and amazing. I think I might try Drift. ❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much Patty! And welcome! I’m so happy you’re here!
@@jaroffireflies thanks for such wonderful videos.
@@pattyhaley2949 my pleasure!
Glad to see your back home! Love DITL!!❤❤❤
Yay! Thank you!
I cannot do sourdough bc of histamine reactions. If anyone has allergies you can support your body by following a low histamine diet.
Your bread turned out very pretty. ❤
I've started making sour dough bread this year and I'm amazed I've kept the starter alive this long because usually it dies on me.
We love going to the library too and stop by the library friends sale each time they have it. 😁
Thank you! Awesome job on the sourdough starter! I am so nervous about ruining mine lol
I don't know if I am allowed to say this, but maybe take it to heart. At the end of the video you talk about the weather and combine it with a mental dissease. If you know the couse of mental dissorders, you might consider letting your heart speak. Love the video's by the way! ❤
I agree! I am a psychotherapist and believe we need to be careful as these diagnoses are real and can be super difficult for people. I believe when we know better we do better and I am sure Chana meant no harm with her statement. It is good to bring awareness like you did though. Thank you for gently pointing it out! I make mistakes too and appreciate when someone lets me know to phrase something better. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the video and am so excited for the next one.

Thank you!!! So happy to be back!
I'm here. I missed a call, and then called them back. Thankfully I did because it was my psych. doc. I got together with my dad today. We took a walk. We stopped by my sister's house today. I went to Kroger, got some good stuff. I want to make fried rice sometime.
Sounds like a fun day!
I love the music at th3 start of your videos.
So glad!
Your salt bowl is so cute, what a lovely find!

The best!
I love organizing! What you did with your books was such a great idea!
Thank you so much! I love organizing too :)
I loved seeing what you bought in NJ. Your bread looks delicious!

That’s an ambitious library project! Congratulations!
Thanks so much! 😊 It was a huge project but after about a week or so we are all done!
I LOVE Island of the Blue Dolphins and the series

Hi Cheryl! ❤️
Hi Chana. I always learn something new from you. I love your library and organization method for your books! So terrific!
Thank you 😊
ive just missed your videos of spending the day with you...glad to have it back! Love the judaica you got in NJ!
Yay! Thank you!
Love your library organization! I have been wanting to have all our books in one spot too so I will be checking out that website soon. So excited to see the finished project!
Enjoy! Happy organizing!
I love your relationship with your kids - celebrating what they have done and giving them so much encouragement. ❤
Thank you so much :)
Your bread looked beautiful!! What a clever idea for the library books!! I'm impressed!!! 😊

Love the video! You are so organized. What a great idea for your home library! The bread looks yummy. I bet the kitchen smelled good after baking the bread. Thank you for sharing and I hope you all have a fantastic rest of your week! 😊
Thanks so much! 😊
Been trying to get down my bread recipes to an art and trying different ones, yours rose beautifully, have a great rest of your day and thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
Island of the Blue Dolphins! Love your book choices!

Wow! I love the library organization! And all the side commentary by No-Longer-Baby Firefly!
Thank you Penelope!
Glad you are back, missed you, I knew you were in Jersey visiting with family and were very busy, glad you had a wonderful trip. 😊
Thanks Kay!
Chana, you're an amazing young woman. I don't know how you do everything you do. I look so forward to your uploads. Have a blessed week! ❤
Thank you so much!
I was wondering the same thing! Do you have tips about combining a full-time career and work with running the household? I would love to learn some tips! ❤
That is a great question. I love it. I am going to make a video about it. I just started typing a novella here and deleted it lol because it was sooooo long.
@jaroffireflies thanks, Chana! That would be amazing to hear from you!
Chanita! Just loved seeing how one of your Firefly babies went through the Oreo eating ritual. So sweet!
😊 thank you
Library organising time is the best ❤
Yes! I wish I would have considered librarian as a career path when I was in college lol
I love Lakewood.. so many great stores. ❤
Absolutely!
It was so nice to see you today missed you last week. I can't wait to see what you picked out for your Purim costume.Have a nice week and a peaceful Shabbat
Thank you for watching! This video was supposed to go up last week but I had technical issues and it took longer to fix then I anticipated so here we are today :) but I enjoyed the week off lol
Your daughter looks so adorable in her dress! And baby Firefly running around!! So sweet!! ❤
Thank you!! 😊
Just ordered my DRIFT in coffee...yes please:) Loved seeing your shopping from NJ. Our friends of the library operates a book room at our library and I find so many good buys there. Books are my weakness as well.
Hope you enjoy it!
Wow all your books from the library are all the ones I have had as well. In fact island of the blue dolphins is one of my favorites 😉thanks so much for sharing everything from NJ also 😋
So cool!
Would LOVE to see library updates in the future. I too have over 1000 books and really want to get them sorted on the shelf in a way that makes for easy finding if you need them. Keep up the great work with your videos and enjoy.
Thank you! Stay tuned for an update next week!
great job on learning and the bread looked soooo good, my mom makes her own and made a deep dish vegitairian pizza with her dough and it was fabulous
Sounds great!
I remember reading Island of the Blue Dolphins in 4th grade!
Me too!
Enjoyed watching your trip to Lakewood, NJ & your return to Texas. In my Brooklyn, NY neighborhood many use sour dough in the place of a challah for Shabbat.
Very cool! We used it sometimes by my sister (in law) for Shabbat
Thank you for sharing what you do in a run of the day with four children. Your library system sounds like a great idea. Talking about books, I have a bookshelf that my Grampy made me for my 9th birthday. My book shelf is 50 years old.
Oh I love that! I also still have a book shelf that my grandpa made me when I was a kid :) Its about 35 years old and I love it!
Thank you for sharing and explaining the items you brought!
I love learning about new things and where things came from.
Love the book organization too!
I have been on my sourdough journey for a couple of months now.
It is definitely a labor of love.
I love making sandwich bread and chocolate chip cookies with it so far.
I am still learning how to make the Dutch oven sourdough bread.
This week I plan on making bread and muffins with my sourdough starter.
I named her Uno as I wanted to try to only have one to keep alive and use.
@jennelle.v, you gave me a big smile when I read you named your sourdough starter .. I absolutely love it! 🍞
I also love that you named it! I am still trying to think of a good name. I want something yiddish :)
Thank you so much for taking us along. There were so many things about your video that made me happy. I think that you could properly call your beautiful salt container, a salt cellar. It’s wonderful that your children all have their own library cards. My daughter is now in her early 30s and a post doc teaching Shakespeare at a Boston college, but I well remember her practicing printing her first and last name when she was four to get it small enough to fit into the space required by our library, so she could get her very own library card.
Oh a salt cellar! I like that! Thank you!
Good morning Firefly Family! I am so jealous of your library system! I don't have enough physical books to do that system, so maybe I just need to buy more books. Your sourdough looks wonderful, and it is so neat that you are continuing to learn and show your kids the importance of lifelong learning.
Thank you for sharing. Have a wonderful week!
Yes! Buy more books!!! LOL
You could have a pretend library at your house with a check out folder and a drop box when they want new books (so they are put back the right way). I just thought of that while you were talking.
So fun! The kids are free to take books and return them as they please, and I have a checkout system for people outside of our family now who borrow our books :)
Channa, I always enjoy a trip to the library! It has always been my favorite place. My children ,grandchildren and great grandchildren do too. I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania that is home to the first and still open free public library in our country. Enjoy your channel much.
That is awesome! Thank you for sharing ❤️
💝 חודש טוב ומבורך.
Chodesh tov!
Love that you’re a reader and are inspiring your kids to be readers. One of my favorite memories was when I got my first library card to the county library. It was housed in the high school where my dad taught and he talked the librarian into issuing it a year early.
Love that! I still remember signing my first library card too ❤️❤️❤️
Oh my word I have had the same book problem with my children that sticker idea is genius 🤯
It has been life changing. My books still look perfect!!!!!!!
Hi Chana. One of my new year’s goals was to learn how to make sour dough bread. I even have the same boule and Dutch oven as you! I have made other yeast breads in the Dutch oven, but not sour dough. You’ve given me the inspiration/nudge to get moving and learning 😊.
yay! Happy baking!
I just started my sourdough era too! It took me months to get my starter going but I’ve successfully made 2 loaves. Very exciting!
That is awesome!
This was great. I worked in the school library when in grade school through college. My home library (a few thousand books) is set up like a library. Mostly non fiction. So I’m really enjoying hours. The series of books you showed on the Torah looked great so of course the first one I get will be the one you showed. Thanks.
Your library sounds amazing! We have over 2k books in the house, its been a while since I counted. But the books in this particular room that i am organizing, are all the books that I don't mind lending out. We have already started lending and its the most fun thing!
I was an elementary school librarian before I taught, and I had every one of the books you bought in my library! I love your organization system! It’s similar to what I had in my library at school. I used colored labels, too. I love your videos!
That is so fun! Thank you!
Looking forward to seeing your finished library. I never thought to do that with ours. I have a lot of books too. I have never counted. Now I am curious 😂🤣
Good luck on your project!
Thank you!
Nice haul of special items from your New Jersey trip. My mom always seemed to have perfection in her baking. Her butter horn rolls were symmetrical and oh, so yummy. For a while during my high school days she would get up and make fresh loaves of bread. Talk about spoiled. She also put up strawberry and apricot jam so, yeah! Luckily we had morning and evening animal care chores or we would have been rollie polly kiddos! That is all to say that I never saw her ever fail at anything she attempted in the kitchen which gave me a bit of a complex. Good for you showing the littles life isn't about perfection and the learning is part of the joy. Thank you for sharing. I'm always inspired by your day in the life. 😘💚
So fun! Thank you for sharing :) So lovely
I love your idea about the online database for your books, I totally need to do that as well. I don't think I have as many books as you, but I am getting there. I loved this video, thanks for the update.
So glad you enjoyed! I definitely recommend LibraryThing, it’s very easy to work with
Would love to see a bookshelf tour when you are finished! 😁
Coming soon!
I love Scentbird so much
Its great!
I volunteered in the library after school and it was my favorite place to go. Your efforts are amazing and your children will appreciate you more than they can say.
Thank you so much! 😊
Oh my goodness! you picked up one of my all time favorite books at the library sale 🤩 Island Of The Blue Dolphins is based on a true story in the setting of San Miguel island within the Channel Islands off the coast of central California, now a national park. We live close by and I've had the pleasure of going to the islands many time. I love hiking around, imagining what it must have been like for Karana and her people. What an epic story. I bought my grandchildren copies but have not yet gifted as there are portions that might be a little scary...will hold them until they are young teens. Thank you for your continually great content Chana💜
So cool! Thank you Susan! ❤️
I really enjoyed your library organisation talk I really love books and no this was not boring to me .
Thank you Linda ❤️
Hi Chana! Welcome home! Glad to see you back! (at home). The bread looked really good. Especially with the Deli. Can your oldest also eat this type of bread? I would love to hear about why many are preparing bread this way. Great items yo brought back from NJ. your haircovering also was very pretty. Would love to hear about your future Purim prep. Have a great week!
Thank you Rochel! No, my oldest cannot eat sourdough bread from wheat flour. But once I get this down I plan to make a sourdough gluten free starter too. Stay tuned for purim prep next week!
Don’t feel alone with your sourdough, I absolutely suck at sourdough even though I’ve tried and tried. I finally found a recipe for 5-minute artisan ok knead bread that can be made up in advance and stored in the fridge for up to two weeks and you on,y pull out the amount you want to use for a meal. I add my sourdough starter in with that recipe and it tastes the same. It’s quick and easy to make and store.
So fun!
Glad the trip left you energized instead of wiped out. I would have cried at that giant pile of laundry. Are you going to do a video on the eclipse next month? Great homeschooling lesson for the kids.
We definitely plan to watch it, but I doubt I will film anything that day since I just want to focus on the kids and their experience of it.
Hi Chana! Library sales are the best! As I got older, my children books were taking up too much room and I donated them to my old grade school. I kept one shelf full of my children books for me to enjoy again. I love your organizational ideas and will pass them along to my family members. I also check out thrift stores and yard sales for some great book bargains. As always a p!measure to watch and learn.....
I love that you continue to enjoy your favorites!
I’m in school for library science and we have multiple classes on how to create a categorization system like this. It looks great and I’m very interested!😄
That is awesome!
