She's getting some love.
This is part one of two videos. I had to split the videos as time caught up with me. In the next video, I will finish the powder-coating and tackle the fueling system and finish up the restoration.
I hope you enjoy the video.

Some info on the little motor.
The Kohler K91 is a 145 cc (8.86 cu·in) single-cylinder air-cooled four-stroke internal combustion gasoline engine from K-series, manufactured by Kohler Co.
The Kohler K91 engine has an L-head (side valve) design and a horizontal PTO shaft. This engine can be equipped with Kohler or Walbro carburetor and magneto, battery, or breakerless ignition systems. The K91 engine used paper air cleaner (oiled foam pre-cleaner was available as an option).
The cylinder bore is 60.33 mm (2.38 in) and the piston stroke is 50.80 mm (2 in). This engine produced 4.1 PS (3.0 kW; 4.0 HP) at 4,000 rpm of horsepower.
i thought you were working on my 69 toyota... the air filter is the same as my car hahahaha. waiting for part 2
Hahaha that is awesome! I cant find a replacement though.
Superb ! Waiting for the assembly and run !
This job is not easy. You are really professional. great work
Thank you, I try my best!
Should have tons more years left in that engine yet. Thumbs Up!
Its looking surprisingly good inside actually.
Brie back old memories, drove many a Kohlrt powered he's when I worked in a theme park lots of fun to drive
Brings back memories, I drove many kohler powered vehicles and I would a theme park
Gotta love these little tanks!
Hello AJ good job can't wait to see the final restoration well done
You and me both!
Not an easy task but you did a great job!
Nesesito un carburador md k 91 i un redoptor
Thoroughly enjoyed! I love the special effects: the pigeons were very excited today,
Glad you enjoyed it!
Kohler makes a great little motor. I think that should be a 1973? Looking forward to see the completed restoration. Cheers!
I could not find anything on the age of the motor but that sounds like it might be 1973 ish.
My guess would be 50s or 60s as it has the pulley you wrap a rope around to start it. Most engines in the 70s had recoil (rewind) start.
@@joekelley1734 I ran the serial number :)
Loved seeing this. I have an old Kohler k301 12hp that I need to replace the conrod and I've learned a lot from seeing you do this. Dankie vir die goeie idees
Baie dankie, die is my eerste Kohler motor wat ek het en regmaak. ek sal like om nog so paar te kry. Dis net jammer hulle is so skaars.
@@AJRestoration skaars en parte is so duur😅. As ek 'n so in my soektog na nog parte ens' paar kry sal ek jou laat weet as jy na nog projekte soek
Valeu AJ! Fico no aguardo da parte 2. Abraço!
Marvelous job! Love the birds tweet in the background :3
Glad you liked it! I also love the birdies.
Proper birds yes, but I hate the sound of pigeons! They to ture me outside my window early in the mornings.
Wow good restore👍
An excellent video as usual. I like listening to the birds as much as seeing the cats on other's videos.
Me too!
Spectacular job. Love all the birds in the background.
Thank you so much 😀
Nicely done 👍👍👍Thanks for sharing
You did a very good job, keep it up. Beautiful result 💪👍
Thank you so much!
Nice! See you in 2th part!!👍
Very cool well done so far.
Awesome job there.
That classic engine looks like it was a reel mower engine at one time.
When I find a vintage reel mower. This beauty is going on it.
Dude...................Out frigging standing. Thanks.
Haha thank you Benny!
Good stuff! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Very nice! Looking forward to part two! 🤘
Thank you Vince! Wish I could do the full video, but I just didn't have the time.
Vince? 🤣
Oh, you did a typical Mustie 1 Job? How he says if it is not the Carb look at the carb. It's allways the carb.
Great Jobs you do
Greetings from Germany.
Hahaha I love watching Mustie's videos!

i find the lack of orange and blue disturbing:-) (/jk nice seeing other colours on this one).
Good..i like
Good morning from Southeast South Dakota
Sorry was I to say first????
Excelente
Muito bom até aqui !
😍aguardando!
We have bird here in the High Desert in California that sounds a lot the one in the background, it's called the Mourning Dove.
We call it a post dove if i remember it correctly. In my language we call it a "bos duif"
That is a good engine I restored 1
I enjoy when i watch this videos good good think
Thank you!
When I saw that big puller on that pulley I wondered why you didn’t heat up the pulley to give it a chance to move. Now she rests in pieces :( it’s always sad when that happens
I did heat it up, I just didn't show it. That pulley was on there for good.
Are these engines worth restoring? What about the valve seats around the face of the valve, does the cast iron have any hardened valve seat inserts like they have on the aluminum engines? The valve seats were notoriously bad in the 1950's V8 engines made in America. Is the Kohler K91 as good as modern engines? It sure looks nice. I found one in the woods, but I'm not sure if I will be able to get it to turn over, although it has the carburetor and air cleaner on it, and the muffler, and spark plug, so it hasn't exactly been exposed to directly water but it has been sitting for about 30 years.
Great job. Hello from Brazil
Thanks and welcome
I wondered if there was a second set screw under the first on the aluminum pully
No, I made double sure.
sucks about that pulley... even with a tig machine and some experience in aluminum welding its hard to get that thing balanced again after welding.
I was really sad, I had to leave the shop for 30 minutes haha
Fantastic work. It sounds so peaceful where you are I love that. Quick question what was that at 6:55 was it like another filter? Sorry. Can’t wait for part 2.
Thank you buddy! That seems to be a filter to prevent dust and grime enter the breather. Newer engines has a pipe leading to the airlifter
oh my this is so complex
Haha i keep everything in a little sorting container. otherwise I totally lose it
que tipo de bujía usaste amigo? saludos
Are you from the RSA? Great videos by the way. I love doing restorations as a hobby. Keeps me entertained
Centurion seun hier hahaha Thank you I am glad you enjoy my videos!
Are these the same height as a flathead Briggs 5hp or a little bigger (taller than 12in)
Its about the same as the 3hp briggs.
@AJRestoration oh ok so it should fit on a mini bike with 14-15in clearance (I have a mini chopper im building for dirt oval) I have a 7hp kohler believe it's a k161 but don't know if it fit
Hello. Do you know why the pulley is broken like this? Obsolete or lack of foundry?
Probably a weak aluminum alloy.
Cómo hacer.una limpieza cuando falla.algo al motor
Great job .Congr.
You was used flame at 03:00 for bolts remove. Why use this flame for remove ? Are all older bolds remove using flame ? or related with bolds material?
The problem with a rusted bolt is that the spaces between the threads get clogged with minerals and oxidized metal. Metal expands slightly when heated, so warming up the nut a bit makes it ever-so-slightly larger, loosening the hold enough that it will be able to break free.
Likewise, do you heat the bolt or nut? Yes,heating the nut is the preferred method - get in there fast with a lot of heat and the nut will expand away from the bolt, undo the bolt before the heat has a chance to transfer and expand that. Makes your spanners a nice blue. If you can only get at the bolt, heating is just one of the things to try.
@@AJRestoration .I know when heating metals larger but I don't think ,nut is more nearly to heat and more large and more easy remove (nut and screw are same materials and large rate same )
Thank you for detail reply .I am member to your channel (sorry for my bad english )
that Magneto inside the flywheel is so hard to get the gap right
If this was only a restoration of a K161T
If only I can find a K161T, I will restore it with love!

Lol I did not realise it was premiered, I must have scheduled it wrong. Sorry for that.
How old this engine?
This engine look like good!
We suspect its from 1960/1970s
come on, someone admit that they were hoping to hear a shotgun blast ending that constant hooting
I just said the same thing. D A M N !
Like your videos - except that pesty bird sound in the back grou nd.
maybe for your next restoration you could do a Winchester rifle and shoot whatever bird is making that annoying sound in the background

Nice job on disassembling it. But that bird in the background is / was so annoying. Hopefully in your next video it's gone or its been eaten.
Sounds like you live in the jungle.
