I dislocated my shoulder a few years back. They did an MRI at a later date to determine damage to the soft tissues and found that I had something called a “Buford Complex”. Basically, the tendon structure is different. It was described to me as a sort of “variant anatomy”. Thought that was interesting.
One of the other fifth grade teachers had the first one. He’s awesome. Yet he used to get in trouble for putting his hand on his right side of the chest instead of the left.
I have bell clapper deformity and I got the testicle twisties and the only reason I didn’t lose my right nut is because I knew to go to the hospital because of this video. My right nut thanks you, Sam. edit (1/2/23): im currently in the hospital because i had another one in my left nut this time and im getting surgery to fix this stupid deformity.
My deformity is a missing right lung while I was in my mother's womb. It wasn't removed through surgery- the bronchi is small but it's there, in my right. My heart's moved a bit more to the right as well, and every time I carry a shoulder bag, I sling it over my right shoulder and don't feel exhausted at all LOL Though there's more downsides, I'm alright
Tip: do not ever ever ever in your life get asthma. I would have daily asthma attacks if i had only one lung (Edit: asthma attacks are exactly like panic attacks but not stress related, and usually you're actually right about the danger you think you're in.)
4:29 I was watching this with my boyfriend and he honest-to-god turned around, looked me up and down for a minute and said to my face “I can see it”. Thanks man, appreciate it.
I have bell clapper deformity, it runs in the family. my testicular torsion happened last year and let me tell you, it is one of the worst pains i’ve ever experienced.
My brother has FASD (his bio mom was an alcoholic). Aside from physical characteristics, it also causes developmental disabilities and serious behavior problems. My brother is 25, but he acts more like a 16 year-old, and he's prone to reckless behavior, addictions, and poor financial decisions. He also has problems with being overly trustful of people who just want to screw him over. Not that I'm any better off, though - I'm autistic/ADHD and very, very mentally ill.
@@themaidenlesswretch7819 is someting like that, anyone at every time can get a testicular torsion, is more like a Russian roulette that you do every second of your live
This video may have saved one of my balls. Thanks to this video I know what testicular tortion is, so when I woke up in excruciating pain I immediately suspected testicular tortion. Went to the hospital and got it sorted out.
I think I had that too. Had similar pain in my right testicle every 2-3 months. Went to a doctor once I was 18 who just said "well, can't do anything about it. Here's some pain killers". Fast forward 4 years later and I had cancer in exactly that testicle. May have been coincidence, but to this day I still have the the feeling that there was some correlation.
I'm a teacher. I have one child in my class that clearly has FAS. I went to my principal about this... Because I discovered that my student's siblings (all 4 of them) ALSO have FAS, meaning their mother has drank enough during each of her pregnancies to cause FAS to be present in all of her children. I went to my principal about possibly hotlining, but apparently we can't do anything. All of these poor kids have learning difficulties. The younger brother is pretty low developmentally. Needless to say, I was and still am pretty upset over it. Edit: To those saying the report should have been made to DFS regardless, it already was done some time prior to me being hired there. That's why nothing could be done- there was an investigation that already took place for the reason stated above and the children were found to be in a loving home with no abuse/neglect. It's frustrating, I know, that their actual conception/development in utero was not monitored better, but the kids are cared for with mom after birth, so there's no reason for them to be removed from the home. Mom's done having kids now, too, so I'm sure DFS made it a none-issue to focus on other, more intense cases. This one is certainly not the worst I've seen during my, now, 4 years...
@@primo4915 No clue. I teach in a very impoverished area, though, so perhaps it's just one of those things... 😔 They are loved- that much is evident, so I guess everything else is just dealt with, considering the fact that our area of the state is low on foster families as is.
This last thing makes me so sad. My brother looks exactly like the picture. My mother is an alcoholic and I thought she was clean at least in the pregnancy.
@@Tumeski I know he is the funniest kid I know He can put a smile on everybody's face I really love him But the fact that my mother lied to my face is so hard Btw my mother is sober since about 6 years In case anyone is wondering :)
It’s less of those moms not being angels, and more of FASD being easier to cause. Recent research has shown that it can occur simply by drink during the time period that someone didn’t even know they were pregnant. That’s also why the percentage he gave seems so high, because recent studies have found that it’s much more common than originally thought. It’s also why it’s considered a spectrum disorder because the severity ranges so much.
Which is just more proof to me that alcohol isn't really that great for anyone. Backs up the results by the Lancet study, a multi decade long conclusion that no amount of alcohol is good for you, relative to heavy, ight and non-drinkers. It should be treated like junk food and respected for what it is, a neurotoxin. Society takes alcohol way too lightly. Not say they can't have it, just saying that the amount considered "responsible" is way too high.
@@vixxcelacea2778 that's very true. I love booze but it's an awful drug, with both chronic and acute toxic effects and the risks should be respected more and taken more seriously within wider culture. Its probably one of the most destructive widely used drugs, in no small part due to how socially acceptable it is. It's so much fun, but that's what makes it so insidious But the first few weeks and months of pregnancy are vital to development and even seemingly insignificant things can cause big problems. For example, folic acid is extremely important for the formation of DNA within the first few weeks of development. If an adult woman is deficient in folic acid for a few weeks or months she might not even notice, but if she happens to get pregnant while deficient in folic acid during those critical weeks, likely before she even knows unless she was trying to conceive, it can have a devastating effect on the fetus. There's many other seemingly innocuous or low to mid risk things that can have severe effects if the fetus is exposed to it during a certain time frame, again often before one would be aware of an unplanned pregnancy (but of course not always), or have a far worse affect the earlier in the pregnancy the exposure was I know this thanks to a doctor DRILLING into me how important folic acid supplements were for me while taking a medication that can cause folic acid deficiency despite my repeated reassurance I do not want children any time soon 😑 he almost seemed more concerned about that than anything else... totally not salty lol

When I was 14 I found out I have a congenital heart defect, and when I was 19 I found out I have double reproductive organs. Both things pretty rare on their own and completely unrelated. Have never found any sort of underlying disorder that could’ve resulted in me having multiple birth defects
@@seva7500I think OP means they have both internal reproductive systems (uterus, ovaries, testicles that never fully formed/dropped, etc.). The external part wouldn't be having both fully formed parts, but more of what's called "ambiguous genitalia", and there's a big spectrum of what that could look like. But I think OP meant they just have the internal portion, the external part is fairly easy to notice and is sometimes sadly altered shortly after birth by the decision of the parents to raise the child as one sex or the other.
I hate to be that guy, but if someone stabs you in the heart they'll probably puncture your lungs or the protective layer around the heart and you might still die 😬
My grandmother had a tumor in her thyroid so she had it removed. At some point, her thyroid grew back which they aren't supposed to do. The tumor also grew back and she still has them. Luckily I don't believe the tumor is cancerous and it hasn't posed any major health risks.
The Venture Brothers episode about it was one of the funniest things I'd seen on television at the time. It may or may not have been one of the first episodes I saw... so there could have been a mixture of WTF?!? all the time in there, too.
Fun addition to this list! A Bifid nose. It's reasonably common but it affects so little of someone's day to day life that most people don't ever notice. It's where the cartilage in the nose isn't fused together, and is instead split down the middle. This can create a vertical dent in the ball of someone's nose, but in my case it's so mild that you only notice if you press a finger to my nose and feel the two halves bend separately. I only thought to look up whether this was normal or not when I watched how to train your dragon and saw Stoick had a line down his nose but everyone else didn't. Lo and behold, Bifid nose.
My partner has an accessory spleen, and she had a Splenectomy to remove the original spleen, and then she grew a whole new spleen from the accessory spleen. Which is my favorite thing ever.
This reminds me of how my grandmother had to have her thyroid killed and it was done using a radioactive isotope (which is apparently normal) but then her thyroid grew back and it was fine again. Bodies are crazy.
A fun one is an inactive Y-chromosome. The SRY genes carried by the Y-chromosome can sometimes be removed or transposed. So they don't cause Male development. Apparently a university used to have students test their own karyotype as an exercise and a few women got a surprise when they happened to have a Y chromosome.
There’s a percentage of guys who have an extra X chromosome, in addition to their Y. Though it’s typically not inactive and is considered a kind of intersex by some people.
When I got to high school, we also discussed FAS and the common characteristics of it. That class made me realize that I had unknowingly met a LOT of sufferers of that particular condition during my time in middle school and elementary. Like, a WORRYING number of kids. What makes me feel better about it though is that in recent studies it's have shown that most FAS cases happen when a mother drinks while unknowingly pregnant, pre baby bump.

@@paranormeow My mutant power is that my shoulders are extremely loose. Combined with the fact that I have a long tongue and large nose I can not only touch my elbow to my nose, but lick both at the same time.
My knees do that to. They bend both ways, and I can put my hand at a right angle to my arm, so my wrist are a bit hyper flexible. I thought that was what everyone could do until a few months ago. I don't think I have EDS though.
I actually have a deformity called "Ectopic Kidney" One of my kidneys formed out-of-place (generally where a new kidney would be put in a kidney transplant). I found out when I got a scan of my abdomen for my Appendicitis. Apparently it's not horribly uncommon, but interesting nonetheless.
I have Unilateral Renal Agnesis, which is where I'm missing one of my kidneys, specifically the left one in my case. I have an enlarged single kidney to keep up the slack but that's normal behavior and I've had no side effects.
@@farLander1 Have you heard of horseshoe kidney? The kidneys essentially join together at the base and form a single U shaped organ. Different to what you have, but interesting as well

The little boy at 5:10 is actually fine. When you smile, the philtrum naturally flattens and the lips become thinner. If it is a genuine smile, the skin around the eyes will naturally wrinkle a little. The signs of FASD can only really be assessed on an expressionless face. Also, the expressions of FASD vary widely. Someone who has all the signifiers of FASD may only be slightly mentally impaired, while someone who has few or none might still be severely mentally impaired from prenatal alcohol exposure.

I had Bell Clapper Deformity. I found out when i had a massive testicular tortion when i was 18 or 19. They managed to twist it back in its original position by hand (just in the nick of time), but they wanted to perform minor surgery to make sure there wasn't any minor tortion still in place. They found out that the bindings between the nuts and the sack were absent, and they had to manually stitch them together to prevent me from suffering future tortions. Also, someone who has never suffered one can not comprehend how much it hurts. I would describe it as getting kicked in the nards by a muscular army guy, at full power, with steel boots, every time your heart beats. It's a pain you need to experience to understand, but i wouldn't wish it upon any man.

I have Bell Clapper Deformity and suffered testicular torsion at 11 years old, a day after my brother had appendicitis. Unfortunately, my parents didn't believe I was in pain and thought I was just wanting attention. Eventually they called a doctor, but he agreed with my parents and diagnosed it as 'sympathy pains'. Long story short, a week later I joined my brother in hospital and left with 1 ball fewer than I went in with.

How isn't that considered child abuse?
@@primo4915 No clue. I teach in a very impoverished area, though, so perhaps it's just one of those things... 😔 They are loved- that much is evident, so I guess everything else is just dealt with, considering the fact that our area of the state is low on foster families as is.

It’s also why it’s considered a spectrum disorder because the severity ranges so much.
to be fair if you drink alcohol immediately after getting creamed then you probably deserve the defective child
+
It's so much fun, but that's what makes it so insidious
But the first few weeks and months of pregnancy are vital to development and even seemingly insignificant things can cause big problems. There's many other seemingly innocuous or low to mid risk things that can have severe effects if the fetus is exposed to it during a certain time frame, again often before one would be aware of an unplanned pregnancy (but of course not always), or have a far worse affect the earlier in the pregnancy the exposure was
I know this thanks to a doctor DRILLING into me how important folic acid supplements were for me while taking a medication that can cause folic acid deficiency despite my repeated reassurance I do not want children any time soon 😑 he almost seemed more concerned about that than anything else... totally not salty lol

When I was 14 I found out I have a congenital heart defect, and when I was 19 I found out I have double reproductive organs. Both things pretty rare on their own and completely unrelated. Have never found any sort of underlying disorder that could’ve resulted in me having multiple birth defects
To add to this, one of my brothers also has multiple birth defects, but they are caused by a rare genetic disorder which I do NOT have
wait what do you mean you have double reproductive organs? Is this internal or is this like 4 balls or 2 vaginas (idk how woman work)

A fun one is an inactive Y-chromosome. The SRY genes carried by the Y-chromosome can sometimes be removed or transposed. So they don't cause Male development.

There’s a percentage of guys who have an extra X chromosome, in addition to their Y. Though it’s typically not inactive and is considered a kind of intersex by some people.

Damn bro, my mum always told me she drank "a little" during her early pregnancy before she realised I was there, but I figured since I survived it everything turned out fine. Then you brought up that FASD symptom chart and I noticed I've got a pretty thin upper lip... but since that's about it I figure if I DO have it it'd be pretty mild, so I consider myself off the hook there.
You gave me quite a scare though, lol.
This man has taught me more than 10+ years of school has.
*Edit; Oh my god it's an exaggeration, stop getting your panties in a twist in the comments and stop trying to deduce the state of my IQ from a fucking youtube comment.
You poor soul....
Are you in medical school or what?
Doubt it tbh
I mean the school system is bad but come on you jus didn’t pay attention if this is the case
@@wavvescsgo4378 with all due respect, fuck you. You can't assume jack shit about me or any other rando on the internet.
It's kind of funny now, I've played guess which ball's the fake one with a few partners, but at the time it felt like my balls were trapped in an ever tightening vice for a full week.
Too much information?
@Jack Snow nah screw the parents, the doctor's the real issue here, "sympathy pains"? Excuse me?
You may be entitled to financial compensation.

That accessory spleen may be annoying but fraggle rock is actually a really good show. I loved it as a kid.
Fraggle rock and the offspring, two of my favorite things lol. I would get along with that weird little spleen

0:53 the heart is only slightly to the left of our center with most of the organ behind your sternum so yea I’m sure you could go your whole life without noticing you can still usually feel and hear the heart from the opposite side
Fun fact: The spleen is one of the organs that can grow back after parts of it are removed
There are medical cases where a person's spleen ruptured into several pieces, and each piece regrew back into a full sized spleen
Bonus fun fact: When doctors perform surgery in the abdomen and need to move the intestines out if he way, when they are done, they don't bother putting them back in the right way, because they move around and reorient themselves all in their own
Hey man, i know this is late AF, but have you told that congestive heart disease joke?
@@thestudentofficial5483 Yes I did, I even made a note on that comment
this is dummy late, but that intestines fact is actually really fun and very weird. is that why you get butterflies in your stomach?
@@dragonslayeralex3316 Nope, that’s unrelated. Butterflies in your stomach are a stress response, basically your body diverts blood from unimportant places (like your stomach) to limbs and your brain and such, the parts of your body that really need the blood when you get into a “fight or flight” situation. That diversion is what causes the sensation of butterflies in your stomach.

I feel like I might have that now I don't ever want to work out.
it doesn't always happen when working out, getting a twisty nuut is not pleasen't, the besides the pain, if you're not quick enough to get it sorted, you could lose yah nuut as it also restricts bloodflow

That teacher found a way to stun a group of highschoolers into silence, with only minimal psychological scarring. Kudos!
I have a gray matter heterotopia which basically means that some of my grey matter (One 8mm heterotopia) developed in the wrong area of my brain. Apparently its rare but people can go their whole lives without knowing they have a heterotopia because it can be asymptomatic. However for some there are unfortunately symptoms like epilepsy, depression, and developmental delays. I only got the depression but I figure I would have gotten that anyways
How in the world did you find this out? Also, is there any help for your depression?
@@vixxcelacea2778 I had short term paralysis in my left hand which doctors determined was stress induced. It went away on its own but they checked for MS but found the heterotopia instead
Oh, my friend has this. She found out about it in her 30s by having a seizure and giving herself a concussion in the process, warranting a CAT scan. She also suffers from depression. Good times.

I have something pretty strange that I haven’t heard of other people having: I have uniquely dense bones. Like, they’re not thicker making me look weird or anything, they’re denser on a molecular level by between 11-14%. It makes me slightly heavier, and I can thankfully say I’ve never broken a bone due in part to this. I think it’s pretty neat. I also have Sjoengren’s disease, but…🤷♂️
Doesn't the dense bones thing mean you're less likely to get osteoporosis when you're older? You're lucky.

Except no it fucking isn't. The heart is almost perfectly centered right in the middle of your chest. One of its valves is slightly pointed in a left-facing direction, making a PART of the heart slightly less-than an inch to the left.
