The build is coming along nicely, well done on everything so far! Key to reduce condensation is ventilation. You have those plastic wind deflectors on the front side windows which allows you to gap them a couple inches all the time without rain etc getting in although can let the cold in! I would also recommend installing a diesel heater (I have one of the cheap chinese ones now for the last 3 years and no problem), the obvious benefit is they give out excellent heat to keep you warm! They give off a "dry" heat so will dry the van and take condensation out. By dry heat I mean it doesn't use a butane flame (like on a camp stove etc) which gives off water vapour and actually creates condensation!! All the best with the build 🙂
Easiest way to increase your airflow is to have a drophole in floor, (shield with mesh to prevent critter ingress). This will give an air input allowing your roof vent to actually expel the humid air in the van and creating airflow using no power.
Great video, I loved watching you work on this project. It looks like the insulation made an instant improvement. Thanks for sharing your journey. I used to live in a proper campervan with a pop up roof and all the cupboards, sink, fridge etc. but now I've scaled down to an all wheel drive SUV. I just want to say that wood is heavy and fuel is expensive these days so consider keeping your build as light as possible. I see so many builds that look like they weigh a tonne. I could never imagine towing around ceramic tiles, timber furniture or a full size oven every day like some people do. A heavy build not only costs more in fuel but is more taxing on the engine and suspension etc and can lead to expensive repairs or upgrades required down the road. Keep it light and simple and you'll get a lot further 😊 happy travels ❤️
Kangoo spiderman, first time seeing roof insulation applied with the feet. Good to see you back after a long time and I was only checking yesterday, whether I had missed a notification. Major stuff done and hopefully you can get the living essentials ready, which should make the option of wood panelling/decor an easier task.
Good job mucka👍 could do with a dehumidifier they're about £3 from b&m shops or similar. They are really good. I have them in the van and caravan. Amazing how much moisture you get from them.
We just bought a t5 and the previous owners had just glued the carpeted ceiling up. After a few nights the glue comes away due to the conde. We've used clips to secure it after we stripped it down and started again with it.
Fit a roof vent or dehumidifier. Make sure the air vents on the dash are open and crack the windows half an inch if you can. I found heating the van in the morning helped also.
I am starting my 8th year full time in my VW T4 so I have plenty of knowledge bud the vapour barrier is most important so what you have done is spot on !
Ventilation window cracked open half inch with wind deflector so no ingress from driving rain and A good evernight dry heater that will help with condensation is the 40w or 80w greenhouse tube heater they draw little do depending on your house battery size this may help
vapour barriers ONLY work when they are perfect. When they aren't perfect they allow moisture through, and will trap moisture. There are moisture barriers however that allow moisture through only one way. This way any moisture inside has an opportunity to escape. Best thing is to have plenty of air movement (but not too much) and a dry heat like a diesel heater or a wood stove. Good luck man!
I do not know how cold it gets in your area, I am in Canada and plan to put a small wood stove in my van, I have down so before. They completely eliminate all moisture in the entire van. I have used wood heating in several homes and cabins as well .. and we'd light the stove once a month or so just to kill the moisture even in summer :)
airflow airflow airflow all windows cover with insulation of some kind u use foil bubble wrap with car carpet on one side a cheap way of doing 2 jobs insulates and blackout

Good video buddy - I have been n my van for 18 months now - a few weeks out but all in all I have enjoyed it. - dont put covers on your front and side windows - moisture will be attracted to the cold glass and thus keeps you dry in the back. I would like to meet up with other van dwellers...whats the best way of doing that>
@@Nomadickangoo -seriously don't put blinds on your windows - I have a throw which I put up where the bulk head used to be....I then let it hang down about 6 inches or so, so that moisture can escape but know one can see in. moisture is attracted to cold surfaces I.E windows...I have to scrap the inside windows but that is much better than sleeping in a damp confined space.
If you had put the insulation onto the outside of the roof held under ply sheeting fixed to a roof rack then you would have the maximum standing head height inside plus you could still suck any occasional droplets off with a window vac instead of them becoming trapped by your Kingspan against metal
Can so relate to starting a project and then loosing motivation due to it being cold and running out of cash. Did you notice it being any warmer or less colder?
Hey! What do you exactly do when the moisture outside in winter is always at 95%? How do you let the air from the outside into your car while at the same time not getting your mattress sheets damp or moist? Thanks you : )
You really need some heat going on inside the van, hot air can hold way more moisture than cold air so...moisture gets absorbed (generally speaking) into the hot air, then goes out a High placed vent; the higher the better. There will always be some kind of energy loss in these situations but that's the price you pay. Adequate ventilation plus keeping warm is a must anyway for Good health, so heating and venting solves two potential problems. Cold and damp with stale air is not a Good situation to be in as I'm quite sure you know 👍
@@Nomadickangoo thank you I was going to just do that as my van is built so will be much more difficult to insulate but I built so all could be removed if needed so it’s doable
