- In todays micro campervan video, I camp by a lake and see if my 'free electricity hack' is going to work and provide me with the power needed to run a heated electric blanket for winter van life, all night, every night.
The video sponsor is the amazing Ecoflow, and you can check out the brand new River 2 her:

I'm not sure whether to class this video as stealth camping (although it's always a steath camper van), because I was in the middle of nowhere. But it was nice waking up with the lake next to me so I could get the drone up!
Hopefully the review of the heated electric blanket for winter van life was helpful to you. I'll definitely be using mine throughout the winter, along with my 250w fan heater that I discovered in my other recent video.

I like your style. If you find the River is just not enough to get you through the whole night, you can effectively create a battery extension with any cheap battery pack since the River takes charge through usb c, even a little pack will add to how long the blanket will run. For reference a 10,000mah battery pack is 37wh. I use a 20,000mah pack and it adds around 30% battery capacity.
Yeah that could be a good idea actually! Although for me I’ll be using the delta 2 usually which doesn’t support usb c charging. But it has more than enough capacity for what I need. Thanks!
Nailed it ! Fan heater to warm the space pre - bed , Electric Blanket all night and Electric heater in the morning :) this has to be the best Video yet to describe the Heaters, Battery , solar and usage, all in Watts ! brilliant - very informative
Thanks! Yeah I’m well happy with the new set up. Looking forward to seeing how effective it is on a really cold night!
Told ya,
I cannot do without my E blanket. I have found it difficult to convince others though. Thanks for spreading the word.
Yeah it’s definitely something I’ll be using a lot now I think! Loving it!
you just answered all my questions about solar charging, batery and heating. what a king
Glad it was helpful! One thing I forgot to mention though is my solar panel is a flexible one. It’s just over a year old now and seems fine but apparently their lifetime isn’t as good as the rigid ones
Great video Adz! Loved it - and great seeing Mav on the projector! You’re both on my playlist and always look forward to seeing your videos! Been a fan of Mav for a few years - and you’re proudly on that list of people! Keep up the great work as always! See you on the next one, D
Thanks Damian! I’ve only been watching his vids for a few months but I love his truck camper set up!
Hi Adz, i'm really glad to see that the leccy blanket worked out even better than i thought it would.
At least it will keep you warm all night long using allot less power than you fan heater.
Your electric system is off the scale so fair play to you.
looking forward to the road trip armed with the blanket ect.
All the best.
Yeah I’m well happy with it! Looking forward to some colder nights now to see how it holds up
Glad the blanket worked out great, fantastic idea on the splitter for charging! Game changer!!
Yeah I love the blanket! It’s definitely staying. And yep. Loving the fact I do t have to take the ecoflow indoors to charge it now. Thanks!
Awesome.. we use a electric blanket in big Bertha.. plug it in the jackery for an hour odd before we go bed .. it’s amazing … cheers Chris & Sam
Yeah I’m well glad I decided to give one a go!
Available from tomorrow at Argos, deluxe twin control electric blanket, comes with subtle aroma of spicy chicken, onion and Oregano.
😂😂😂😂
Lol
Great video as ever keep making and I’m looking forward to your trip.
Thanks
Take care and stay safe
Thanks Steven!
We have a tent trailer and even in the summer my husband swears by his electric blanket. I, on the other hand, sleep at the other end with all of the windows open! Last trip it got down to 2C and I still had the windows open and he had his electric blanket running inside of his sleeping bag. Bonus of a tent trailer, we sleep at opposite ends and heat comfort level! First time watching, you’re quite entertaining! Cheers from Hanna, Alberta, Canada.
I wouldn’t want to sleep with a windows open in the cold haha. But yeah the blankets do such a good job! Thank you!
Ordered one of the 250w heaters, should arrive tomorrow thanks for the info really needed this
Hope you enjoy it and it works for you too!
Your set up is legit! I love the projector set up. Nice work.
Thank you!
What a great solution. I really fancy getting this now.. if anything to charge my laptop! Another good video
Yeah it’s a great little unit!
Loved seeing the Mav video pop up, he's kinda the reason I stumbled across your vids mate. Just keep on Vannin'
Haha that’d make a good catch phrase! 😂 and yeah I do like his vids a lot!
Ive got a riverpro and ive been using it to power the leccy blanket on my settee, brill idea for car camping too!.. Im so pleased i chose an ecoflow.. Best purchase of this year.. Thanks for reviewing :)
I’ve been using the delta 2 mainly but I don’t get through the full capacity so I may use the river pro instead as it’s smaller. They’re great!
@@Adz I got the 160w solar panel to go with it, i bought it for blackouts and to use in my shed, next purchase will be a wind turbine! Watching that free energy drip into that bank really does put a smile on my face :)
You are most likely correct when you say that using the delta 2 connected to the solar panel to run your heater for a bit and then the electric blanket through the night and then the electric heater again in the morning is a good solution. When you switch your heater on in the morning, the solar panel will probably be charging the ecoflow, so you will have a little more power than is displayed.
Yeah I’m looking forward to getting some colder nights to see if it holds up! Hoping it keeps me going through the winter
Very clever. What a great van by the way!
Thanks Kya!
You just explain explain what overunityes congratulations you're the 1st person to realize the beginnings of what true overunity actually is good job
Confused… but thanks! Haha
@@Adz I am the original guy who created overunity monmy name is Lloyd G stovo I created the word and the science behind it. It is called v Over one in physics, 2 points to go to 1 or 1 point that goes to 2. Without even realizing it you're using something that is very important. Now if you did not realize you can take that 1 source of energy Bixby which one represents put it in 2 The wish goes to different sources but if you put an automatic switch that bounces back at 60 Hz or 60 times a second then you can run 2 things for the same amount of energy , keep in mind light bulbs do not shine light directly they flicker sometimes a camera can pick up on this point your camera at ATV and you'll see the for the green light. You can use this effect too run something or multiple things at the same energy level you're putting out from the source I hope this gives you an understanding over unity goes so much deeper and will save you so much energy , when you do it the opposite way it lets you Charge 2 batteries For the same amount of energy If you live in a Van this is so helpful.
Maaaate loving your videos!!! Cheers from New Zealand
Thanks mate!
Another great vid Ad👍🏻 loved all the electrical stats on what was coming in and out. Also glad I'm not the only one who fly the drone Into trees 🤣
Thanks! And haha I can’t believe I did that! I just assumed there were no trees next to me and just flew it into it without looking at all 😂
Great video as always dude 👍 Realy intresting to see you compare all those different heating systems. I dont realy use my van for camping trips right now because it doesn’t have great insulation and it’s to cold for comfort. But hopefully I find a good solution that does not drain to much battery power for a night so I might try the electric blanket 🙂
Thanks! And yeah the electric blanket has been doing a brilliant job so far. Just make sure you get one with safety features and good reviews!
Cool, I found my setup - Vauxhall Grandland X with back seats down I have almost 6ft space. I need something like this for cold winter nights. So far I have used two sleeping bags and a woollen blanket and it's beautiful and it's quite cosy.
I’ve never been able to get comfortable in a sleeping bag but if the winter gets really cold I might try one out
Nice van , I'm traveling full-time in a class c rv , year number four and loving it i would like to try van life four a few year's thanks for the video
Thanks! I think at some point I’ll be upgrading in size but not too big
Evening , that set up looks like it’s going to work superbly, especially with the delta2….I see you were catching up with Steve Wallis …. And Camping With Steve, , great to see him back after the sad passing of his wife…….👍🇮🇲
Yeah I’m looking forward to a really cold night now! And yeah I’ve only seen a few of his vids but I saw the recent ones where he let everyone know about that. Hope he’s doing ok!
Sweet video! Looking smart kiddo! So now I need to buy an electric blanket!
Yeah just make sure you read reviews and get one with a lot of safety features. They’re well worth getting a good one!
What a great idea. Well done.
Thank you!
Specced up for the winter now man 😎 god status achieved 😁
Yeah hopefully it’ll get me through! Haha
Excellent vid, very informative
Thanks Dave!
Nice mate thats a sick lil van fair play great content too
Thanks Ian!
Hi Adz, another great vid thanx. PS I live just round the corner from layby.
Thanks! And it’s a nice little park up!
Nice Vid as usual Adz, hope the Drone was ok after the mishap. Look forward to the next one buddy!
Thanks! Yeah it was all good. That was before I took the rest of the footage. Can’t believe I didn’t look behind me. I just assumed there were no trees 😂😂
Always good videos adz noticed ya watch mav as well when the bigger van build happening
Yeah I like his vids.. would love one of those big American trucks! And I’m thinking early next year if possible
Back in the 70’s van camping used calor gaz and 12 volt lights. Now everyone has electronics and modern electrical systems.
In Canada I have a GMC 3500 HD pickup with a truck camper on it, my truck has twin alternators with two starter batteries on a 6.6 litre diesel.
There is a DC to DC charger charging 4 lithium 100 AH batteries in the camper, plus two inverters. On top of the camper is 3 -100 watt panels to complement the system. For AC I use a icy breeze unit when needed.
Sounds like you have plenty of power! I just googled the icy breeze. It looks good but not sure I’d be able to keep topping it up with ice!
Really bloody helpful cheers bud.
Glad you thought so!
Love these sort of videos, Thank you Brother I've just subbed 👍
Thanks Chris!
All hail the algorithm! So glad it recommended your channel to me. Just giggled my head off over the McDonalds bagel. Keep going man, you got this!
Haha thank you! Might have to make another bagel soon actually!
This video is a great help for me, thank you very much. The ecoflow can also be charched by car! 👍👍👍
Thanks! And yeah it can but I’m not a fan of using cigarette lighter plugs for 100w, for a long period of time. They tend to get quite hot. I’m now running a plug from my inverter to the ecoflow and charging it at 300w, but only when I’m driving. Combined with the solar that works well!
@@Adz Thanks!
You are hilarious... Great entertainment, enjoyed from Toronto Canada
Glad you think so man! Thanks!
Very useful info. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Ah,I know that place well. Spent a couple of nights there myself 😉
Van food...wraps,fish fingers, rocket and salad cream all arranged in a nice little triangle. It's the one 😂
It’s been a while since I’ve had fish fingers! Might have to get some in the ridgemonkey!
Haha just got one for my bedroom last week really good 👍
Yeah I want one for when I’m at home too haha
I’ve always used an “Electric Blanket” , a £12 heated car seat cover, runs off an old motorbike battery (a 20cm long 25cm high & about 6cm depth in size)
Yeah my mate uses those heated seat covers. He says they’re decent!
Brilliant vid again mate fantastic idea way the electric set up brilliant few guys will be copying u defos bro....can't wait till next vid defocum up north to Scotland 👍
Thanks mate! Yeah I always see people with solar panels on their vans but then they’re using portable ones for a power station. So hopefully this will help them out so they don’t have to carry the extra panel! And I definitely want to get to Scotland soon but not sure I have enough days free to get that far this time
Great video
Another good video mate
Thanks Andy!
Loved the video with Mav and Steve - both we watch too!
Yeah it was a good one to watch!
Enjoyed your video, it was funny because I had just said to my partner if we're going to get a motorhome we need to live off grid as much as possible and had just been trying to work out if we could have electric blankets and how much power they would use.
I feel if you have a good feather and down duvet use a jersey sheets electric over blanket and the duvet on top. Pop blanket on 3 for one hour before bed, then turn it off before you go to bed, you would stay warm all night. While still having the option of turning it back on on seriously cold nights.
That electric blanket was amazing! Since then I discovered a heated mattress protector which was even better!
I'm just starting out now, working out what to do and where to put it all in a high top Vito, do like the blanket idea, I wonder what the 12v heated blankets are like? Maybe just enough to keep warm?
I think 12v can pull a similar amount of watts so in theory it should produce the same heat, and use slightly less electricity because there’s no inverter involved (inverters use a bit of power). But I find that 12v plugs get hot after a while, maybe because they need to pull more amps for the same amount of watts. So I wouldn’t trust one over night. From what I’ve seen all the 12v ones on Amazon have a few reviews that say they’ve overheated/caught fire. So personally I’m staying away from them. I just don’t think they have the same safety features as the mains ones
Cracking one Adz I'm the same as you. Body heat 👍🏻👍🏻😍😍
Thanks mate! I’m determined to get through winter comfortably without a diesel heater
Eletrical blankets are a great way to save electricity, even in your brick and morta properties 😇
Yeah they’re amazing!
Nice video man!
Thanks!
Top vid adz nice one brother
Thanks mate!
Thank you!
Another great vid can I ask about your cooker as how did u get it to run of the small gas bottle as I go fishing alot and need a double cooker but run of the small gas bottles thanks for help
Just attached the correct regulator to it. There’s a link in the description that has all my van build stuff including that regulator. And thanks!
Hi mate great video again can you show me how you wired the switch up as I'm thinking of putting one in my van for the solar but not sure how you did it thanks again
Thanks!
So the solar positive wire goes into the common connection on the switch. Then the positive comes out of the 1 and 2 positions. 1 goes to my ctek charger and 2 goes to my ecoflow. The negatives (from the panel, the ctek and the ecoflow) all go to the common earth block which is grounded in the van
That park up was the far side of Bewl Reservoir Adz near Flimwell.. Know it well round there 😉 👍 👏
That’s the one! It was a good little spot actually!
@@Adz There's another good one on the other side of the reservoir, down a dead end lane with a secluded, rural car park at the end..
Good idea my god of electricity friend!!! 👍
Thanks mate! The lord has spoken 😂
@@Adz have just brought myself a T5 and am in the process of wiring it up so may nick your idea like you nicked the pizza calzone 🤣
Love your personality
Thank you :)
Adz is there a lead you can buy for delta 2 from electric veh charge point to solar input to charge the delta 2??
No, the solar input couldn’t handle that much power. The delta pro is able to charge from ev points with an adapter though, but unfortunately that’s the only one
As well as the electric blanket, which I used prior to me getting a diesel heater in the van. In the cold weather, when I am out and about, or even in the house when I am alone and want to save on the heating, by not putting the central heating on, I use an electrically heated waistcoat from amazon, fed from a small power brick. they are great. Outside, you need an outside wind cheating layer as well to keep the heat from being blown away. It is a good way of helping to defeat that little bald bloke in the Kremlin as well.
I’ve seen heated clothing before but assumed it wouldn’t be any good. But after seeing how good the blanket is I might have to try some clothing!
Don't blame the the bald bloke cos your government chooses not to design self powered APPLIANCES & CARS. Make your feel better? Government created there society we all live in. Listening to banks & fuel cartels. Batteries are not the answer
Ive been wanting to install a diesel heater in my odyssey minivan for awhile now. Its on my list when i have a few extra pennies to blow. I saw a guy on youtube install one in his rv and he did a live test of it in minus 5°c & it brought the temp up to 21°c within an hr or so. The guy was so impressed w how well it worked that he ripped out the propane furnace that came w the rv and used the exisitng furnace ducting w the diesel heater.
After that vid I was sold on it. Im not handy so will have to have it installed by a professional.
What kind of diesel heater do u have & what kind of rig do u have? R u impressed w it and do u have any recommendations for installation? Brand? Tips? New to van life and slowly building out my rig so appreciate any tips I can get from people.
Mate what a top set up , have you trained as a spark ? I would not have a clue where to start with a project like this .
Thanks! And no I learned how to do the electrics last year when I built the van. Mainly through channels like Greg Virgoe. It seems complicated at 1st but when you get your head round it, it seems fairly straightforward!
"That is the one" I knew it was coming 😂
😂😂 it wasn’t quite as ‘the one’ as the previous ‘the one’ though 😂
@@Adz looking forward to the next "the one" 😂 keep it up mate
Hi bud where did you get your projector pull down screen from thanks
There’s a link in the description to everything mate
Hey brav what are the storage shelves on your van walls did you make them or buy them?
All products are linked in every description mate
Great video, any chance of a basic wiring diagram of ur set up
It’s just the standard wiring set up really. I learned a lot from Greg Virgoe and he has diagrams of everything and detailed explanations so I’d recommend taking a look at his channel
Kudos Mighty God of Electricity for this video!👍
Haha ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Nice vid Adz, I’m getting a Ecoflow for Big Lez now…the electrics are from 2005 (Swift Lifestyle).
Yeah I’d definitely say it’s time for an upgrade then! Haha
Good idea ,,, I wonder if that would work on a bigger scale ,,,, like my whole house :)
I might actually fit solar to my house soon haha
Well, what I did in my Transit is connecting a solar charge controller to the two main batteries and from these I'm recharging my power station (through a voltage watch device). The max output of the power station is far greater than that of the ports in the car (due to wiring and fuses) and it can put out AC. The power station constantly gets recharged by the main batteries until the power is cut off before the main batteries are drained too much but these get reloaded either while driving or by the PV panel when standing.
I got a 130Wp panel up on the roof, the power station would only accept 60W of it but this way I can use all of it in summer and still got enough in the winter.
In summer most power goes to the fridge, in winter to the heating blanket on the bed. ;-)
Sounds like a decry set up you got there! I’ve now added a power line from my inverter to the ecoflow, and I input 300w to the ecoflow when driving so that does the job when the sun isn’t out
Adz can you tell me what your projector is and where can I get my hand on one?
It’s one of the nebula ones. There’s a link in the description to all the stuff I use. It’s the kit link mate
you were watching mav and CampingwithSteve collab vid :D awesome
Yeah I love catching up with certain youtubers when I’m in the van!
Hey @AdzVenture1 loving the videos. Can you let us know what that little projector is and maybe provide a link to where to buy one? Is it cheaper to run than a TV? Maybe you could do a short video about the projector.
There’s a link in the description to all my kit. And yeah I’ve spoken about it before in videos. It’s definitely something I’d recommend! And thank you!
@@Adz cheers Adz I'll take a look. If ever you get over Clacton way the new out of town Lidl has a car park open 24/7 with no restrictions and a McDonalds over the road!. I regularly see stealth vans with solar parked up there.
If one day you fancy putting out a little diagram of your electricity wiring, that would be awesome! Even if it's just the one for the splitter.
Thing is I wouldn’t want to recommend electrical wiring when I’m not qualified. But I’d recommend watching Greg Virgoe for anything like that. As for the switch though that’s really simple. The solar panels positive wire goes into the common connection and then 2 positives come out. 1 goes to the leisure battery charger and one goes to the ecoflow. And then the negatives all go to the common earth block
What was the projector you used, it looked pretty good m8
There’s always a link in the description mate. Yeah it’s a good one!
I wonder if you could tent the heated blanket around your bed and if the residual heat would warm up the space in your vehicle.
Unfortunately not, it wouldn’t even change the air temperature by half a degree
Can I ask if you have a link to your projector screen please
Yeah it’s in the description on my kit page
Need to rename the channel Godz ventures! - imagine the weirdo following you’d get then?! Oh no wait - I’m already here! Class video as always, cheers for taking one for the team and not keeling over with pneumonia! 😂
Haha that could be a backup plan if I stop getting views 😂
Hi I am curious how often do you have to top up your gas supply
Barely ever mate. I just use those disposable canisters and I think I’m on my 4th one in a year. But I don’t use it for long usually
You must be a Marvel God!
I’m certain I am! Haha
i come from new Zealand i just looked at the price of the eco flow river and delta range and blow me the costs $700 for the 250 watt and $6000 for the pro 2000 watt... wat kind of costs are these appliances in the UK?
Very good charging considering its winter.
Yeah the panel on this van always seemed to be so effective! In summer I struggled to get my small battery below 85% because it topped it up so quick!
What gauge wire is that. I get voltage drop pretty fast with pretty heavy wire
It looks really thick but it’s the insulation that’s huge. The actual wire is 4mm
Ty sir
How do you get be'er out of better? This sort of thing always amazes me.
Not sure what this means?
I was wondering where can you get that Toastie maker goes on The hub
Link in description to everything I use mate
Thank you I’ll have a look now I’m doing a Ford transit custom as a day van with a bed in the back as my beginners then hopefully later on I will get my Volkswagen transporter
Think you should do a 'mileage challenge' Adam - travel a set amount of miles, say 40, then you have to find somewhere to park up overnight within the next mile - you can't go over. What d'ya think?
Thanks so much for the super like mate! And that is actually a brilliant idea! I think that might be something I will try next time I’m with Bectoria. Could make an entertaining video!
You need a bigger ridge monkey type pan. I bought a much bigger 'berlinger haus ' double clam pan that yo can cook much larger meals in. They are less than £30 as well and none stick.
I thought about it before but the issue is that my hobs aren’t big enough to cover it with heat. I had the much bigger ridge monkey with the separate sections in one half. And when I use that one I have to use both hobs at once but it doesn’t produce even heat unfortunately
I leave my Bluette charging off a cigarette socket at about 60w, So trickle over 10hrs will charge it .That is connected to my leisure battery via the solar charge controller. So in effect the solar panel and driving is charging both at the same time until both are full. So the leisure battery will take the maximum given, and so the leisure led acid will spend most of the time fully charged . And so will be more healthy for it. while the Bluetti will take the deep discharges cycles better with it's Lifo4 tec. So no need to have 4 way switch .I also have a 12v electric blanket with 3 heat settings and 3 on timer settings.
I was going to do that too but the cigarette socket in the eco flow takes 100w and those sockets tend to get hot pulling 100w so I didn’t want it on constantly. But I now do something similar. When I’m driving I send 300w from my inverter to my ecoflow so that charges it up fairly quickly
should test one of the little heatpal ceramic heater things
I’ve seen them but I don’t think it’d be any different to the 500w one I tested a couple of videos ago. Except with the heat pal it would mean I’d need a big power station on top of my kitchen unit
Have you done an induction hob yet?
Not in the van but we ran one (and an air fryer) from the ecoflow delta max in the summer
Whats that projector and screen set up?
It’s in the link in the description
Thanks
I may be the electricity God but you’re definitely the Super Thanks God! Cheers again mate!!
You could have wired to your eco flow battery to your "leisure" battery with a voltage cut off, set it at 13v for cutoff and you'd eliminate the switching.
I could’ve just plugged in the 12v cigarette lighter plug on the ecoflow if I wanted to charge it from the leisure battery but I wanted solar going directly to the ecoflow and not wasting time going into the leisure battery 1st
Top stuff lol
Thanks Paul!
The pizza is genus
Yeah it actually cooked really well!
It seems I’m late to the party, just finding this video. Story of my life 😢😂
I know you’re onto the bigger van now, but was there any issues that cropped up with using the selector switch to charge the ecoflow with further usage? I’m just thinking of doing this in my van. But my delta 2 was £800 & my leisure batteries were £250 so I’m scared incase I bugger anything up. Hahaha
Adz, im a new subscriber, i'm a mechanic and I also have a home made caddy camper, have you considered a diesel night heater ??
Thanks Tony! I have yeah l, and I will in my next van. But it’s not stealthy enough for this van because of the noise unfortunately
@@Adz yep, they are not quiet.
Wonder in you could use under floor heating
I’ve seen someone try it but I don’t think with the heat would ever get through my bed boards and into the van. It’d have to be pretty high wattage to be effective I reckon
@@Adz it goes through tiles floors back home so wood shouldn't be a problem
What about those electric fleece blankets that go over the top ..
That’s pretty much what this is. You can get over blankets or under blankets. But any over blanket (like this one) is still advised to have another cover on top of it to trap the heat in
